Big shout out to what must be a fantastic coffee shop. I was only passing on the 36 bus and I fell in love with Project Coffee simply because of the beautiful sight of 3 people reading while sitting at the window. Picture taken from bus window

Very busy and nice cafe. Very crowded around 10am, got good seats around 9am. There is good coffee and tea anyway. There is a good selection on offer, my two breakfasts (toast gratinated with fried egg or sandwich with haloumi) were great. The service was quick and very friendly. We enjoyed being there, highly recommended!!!

Not sure how it's still open.. service is terrible, food is slow and mediocre, staff is HORRIBLE! You can hear arguing + shouting from the kitchen, the place is a state even when there is visibly a lot of people on shift.. the scones look pretty bad. You're not even served with a smile or manners, every member of staff looks angry and unapproachable, frowny face and bitter tone while you're being served. A man behind the counter was just carelessly walking around talking on the phone in a foreign language, ignoring the cue next to him. Apparently serving customers is difficult to do. And with all those negative aspects, its still almost £5 for a cup of coffee. Funny. Whoever the manager is should step up and fix whatever the hell this shop is, I am never to return!

I have been a regular customer here for several years but have been put off by several recent poor experiences. On my last visit, we were ignored for several minutes by a staff member who saw us, but did not acknowledge our presence, as he was cleaning equipment. When he did finally serve us, his manners left a lot to be desired. We waited longer than we should have for our drinks, given the shop was quiet. The customer behind us quite rightly picked him up on his behaviour, as she was made to wait even longer than us before being served. Again, she received no acknowledgment from the staff member that she would be served, despite being clearly visible. Obviously tinkering with equipment is more important than serving customers! I think some staff members would benefit from customer service training, or getting a different job as the attitude they exude suggest dealing with the public is beneath them.

I don't ever write reviews on places, but after my fairly recent trip, I almost feel obliged to. I've only ever been here for takeaways, as I live nearby, however my two friends and I decided to meet up here for a catch up. When we arrived it wasn't too busy, so we had the delight of getting a big round table next to the counter where the cakes and coffee machine is. I am so happy we got this seat, as we now know the true colours of the staff that work here. I am utterly disgusted and appalled at the staff. There is one male who frequently works here that is the most racist and disgusting person I have ever seen employed. He is very clearly not of black ethnicity and me and my friends caught him saying and using derogatory terms against black people, even going as far as to saying the N word to other staff (Who seemed rather amused might I add!!). Adding to this, during our visit we witnessed two foreign Asian girls which came up to order whilst the same male was serving. They struggled to communicate and my friends and I overheard him saying "Sorry, we don't serve sushi" to the two girls, followed by him laughing to his colleagues. Bloody disgusting!! Is this customer service??? I'm certain that the owner is unaware of his behaviour, and I blame management and other staff for not taking action, unless they stoop to his level too. I have been and visited the sister shops of Project Coffee (Press, Kilimanjaro) and staff there are lovely and very down to earth. Here is a different story. Racism, lack of respect.. Must I add the place was a wreck! Quiet day and so many dirty tables, staff were too busy laughing at the racist comments to do their job. Adding to this issue, the staff is so loud in the kitchen it is unreal. One girl was laughing so loudly me and my friends couldn't hear each other. Chatty, giggles and such but the water jugs were empty, people not served, dirty and unwiped tables. Honestly, if anyone reading this wants to get a taste of their delicious coffee beans I would reccommend visiting the sister shops, there's even one other one in Morningside owned by the same person. Safe to say me and my friends left rather quickly. I wish I had the courage to speak up and ask for the manager, but I thought I might aswell warn any other potential customers. The cakes are nice, I'll give the staff that. Nothing else special, not even human decency.

Here almost every weekend for the past couple of months and have watched the place deterioriate into some mediocre café. Lots of new faces, so that's probably why. Staff has gotten ruder, less bothered about the state and cleanliness of the place and clearly doesn't care. Last time I visited was February for a nice brunch with my Wife and children, and I remember a good experience. But this past month its been a disappointment to say the least. Not even a Hi or Hello anymore when ordering, just a tip screen shoved in your face. Whoever the new cook is has been a massive downgrade, our meals used to arrive within 10 minutes max regardless of how packed the place was. Now its a 25 minute wait on average. Even for small dishes. We're considering just switching our weekly brunch place, as Project Coffee has turned into Project Nightmare. Shame, as it has potential. I understand business can affect wait times for food and drink but there was never this extreme issue before. So the new cook must not be able to handle the job. I recall previous Weekends being bustling but No complaints regardless, our meals were swiftly served and the staff seemed brighter and more friendly. Now it feels like a stab in the chest whenever you try to order. If hospitality and Customer service isn't your thing, switch the job.

Got a takeaway fruit scone to keep me full for a long bus ride. Bit into what literally tasted like acid. A clump of baking powder or soda, I know the shop makes the scones themselves so I highly advise the baker to mix the powder well next time. Not enjoyable, after the first bite I was not eager to finish it. Since it was takeaway I sadly couldn't get a refund for it. I hope the baker sees my review.

My partner and I are locals and usually in here for coffee at least once a week. Generally decent coffee and treats and comparable in price to elsewhere around. Honestly just writing a review to call out a single member of staff whose behaviour is consistently ridiculous. I can't tell if he's always rude, but certainly once it gets within about two hours of close he seems to take it as a personal insult that he's still at work. This has been a constant for the past year or so at this point. He'll ignore customers at the counter presumably hoping they'll just leave, push people to order takeaway saying they're closing "soon" but won't tell you a time when pushed (because it's not soon at all), and acts like he's been shot every time a new person walks in. We tend to be in at the same time every week so I guess we're always unlucky enough to hit his shift. If there were more places open past 5pm we would probably have gone elsewhere at this point but I'm honestly still going out of spite. I see from other reviews that other customers who have met him aren't as forgiving. Maybe time for this specific member of staff to move to back of house? Or perhaps other employment?

Such a shame, as we’ve been going here since they opened. Not sure where to start, the last few months we’ve been going, it’s been a total mess. Don’t get me started on their new tipping culture. You order from the counter, on our last visit they left the last customers plates and cups, filling the table until ours food arrived (20 minutes). In the past I’ve had to clear them myself, but they seem to get mad when you do it yourself. Their prices have shot through the roof and to add insult you’re asked to pay a 10/20/30% tip and it’s not easy to skip it. The old woman in front of me couldn’t get her card to work and it’s because it was stuck on add tip. The server told her “you need to select one of the amounts 3 amounts to proceed”. It felt like the old woman was being robbed, she had no idea what was happening. Service is slipping, food quality seems to be getting worse and the tipping robbery is getting out of hand. I used to love Project Coffee, but with all the new cafes opening up I can’t see it surviving. Clean the tables, be a little more friendly and get rid of asking for a tip before you even know what the service/food will be like.

Has the potential to be so nice but the owner is consistently horrible. If you try to be helpful and return your empty cups or plates to the till he will tell you it’s not helpful (in a much less polite way). When customers walked in he said ‘jesus Christ’ and refuses to conversate or even acknowledge you whilst you try and order, doesn’t even look up at you no matter how polite you are. Feel bad for the staff as he’s rude to them too. I get that running a coffee shop can be stressful, but if you can’t even stand customers trying to be polite and clean up after themselves why do it? Avocado on toast is £10 and the coffee is usually pretty sh*t. How do you mess up a black coffee lol.

This has been one of our favourite cafés. On this occasion we each had an excellent "Flat White" coffee and a huge, very tasty cheese scone to share. But we thought the staff were scruffily dressed and did not look not entirely clean. One member of staff went outside, sat at a table at the door and had a vaping session. What a weird question I thought because everywhere else they serve egg beni with wilted spinach. When I got the plate it looked amazing, but... why do you use vinegar to cook/boil or whatever the cook did with that spinach?!?!?! I had a few bites, it was so strong I couldn't finish, my partner tried to finish it, he almost choked on it a few times it was that strong. I wish someone came to our table to at least ask is everything alright with the food? (Like other places...) but obviously nobody did. Don't add vinegar to the spinach, its awful.

I had to leave the premises after appalling customer service. We seat down at a table with a plate and teapot still on it from the previous customer. I thought I would help my placing it on the shelf behind me. A member of staff tried to collect it and a saucer slipped onto the ground and broke. He then aggressively told me that it was my fault and I shouldn’t have put it on the shelf. Other customers around me were also startled by his tone and behaviour towards me. He then returned and I explained that I was trying to be helpful - he responded by stating “well you weren’t”. This caused me to become upset and had to leave - my daughter also started crying. It’s also worth stating that I had my two young children with me. I absolutely will not tolerate being spoken to in this way by anyone and I am shocked by the lack of customer service. It is truly disgusting. I was a local, very regular customer and I will NEVER set foot in Project Coffee again. I’d advise the same of anyone also - repulsive member of staff.

Not visited for a while and was shocked when I had paid for my order to be told they actually didn’t have what I wanted and could not issue me a refund for the items they did not have which I had already paid for.

Really great coffee, tasty and strong. The date scone was excellent as well and the atmosphere and service inside the cafe was great.

This place is a gem. Located in a urban area of Edinburgh, well away from the bustle. The street is kept close to its original form lending a provincial feel to the city thoroughfare. We loved this neighborhood and Project coffee is stand out cafe.

Bustling café in the heart of Bruntsfield, can be difficult to get a table and takeaway is busy too. Great coffee and selection of sweet treats.

Nothing extraordinary about the place, very average tasting coffee, the staff are very common, loud and at time rude. Avoid at all cost .

Went for lunch before a match at Murrayfield. The restaurant was busy but the service was still quick. Very well priced and varied lunch menu. The staff were helpful about gluten free options too, confirming that the chips are cooked in a separate fryer.

We ordered soup and cheese toasties. Homemade, comforting and authentic! Big plus for their fresh sourdough bread. All the pastries were tempting, that will be for next time :)

Ukrainian cuisine in the center of Edinburgh. Delicious, huge portions and most importantly - Ukrainians are around. It was as if she had visited home. I recommend and will definitely visit with children! I wish you happy visitors.
