Food was OK - but not great. I had a burger and fries that was on par with pub food. My wife had pumpkin spice french toast that didn't taste like pumpkin spice at all. Service was pretty bad. My food came out 5 minutes before hers. It took 10 minutes after I ordered a beer for it to arrive. I had to ask the waitress twice to bring ketchup (she acknowledged the first time and then forgot). Next time, I'll try harder to find a place to eat in the area.

We stopped off for a coffee whilst exploring Edinburgh. The service we received was fantastic and the coffee was spot on.

We went by chance as two couples and we were very happy. We received clean, attentive service. We almost wiped and vacuumed our plates because they tasted delicious. If you want to chill out from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, just a few blocks away from the castle you can find a very friendly, budget friendly bistro. Staff is superb, specially Tino with his very needed recommendations, I had a chippotle chicken wrap and it was delicious. We also enjoy local whisky and a lovely chat .

We had a short break and a Cappucino (a pretty great one btw) here a few days ago. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. A kind gentleman in his 50s (I think) welcomed us, offered us a few nice places to sit. After realizing that we wanted to stay outside (even though it was a bit colder and quite windy), he prepared the table as fast as possible and made sure we really wanted to stayt there, haha. These may seem like obvious things to state. But as someone, who works in service, I can tell when I see a host, who is not playing a role, but instead is an actual welcoming person, who wants to take care of his guests (not just customers). This gentleman was great! Then our waiter, Tino, arrived. He was so open hearted, welcoming, funny and friendly. He as well wanted to make sure we were "crazy" enough to stayt outside :) He made sure everything was all right and even took pictures of us. And all of this oviously as a genuine host, who wants to do nice things for two random people. Even though we stayed at Scran for only half an hour, Tino and his colleague made such an impression, that I had to write this review. We will come back! Short: great, great service, amazing Cappucini, clean toilet and nice atmosphere. Cheers

All the servers were adorable! We went for a Scottish breakfast recommended by a travel book on Scotland and we were really pleasantly surprised by the quality of all the products! We had a blast! Great time thank you team!

We visited Scran in September after seeing it on the Clan Broonford YouTube channel. It was very busy but we found seats in the arcade. A bit chilly but we soon had delicious coffees to warm us up. My cappuccino was probably the best I’ve had outside of Italy. My husband had the burger and a Nutella shake which he said was absolutely amazing. I went for the veggie breakfast. It was very good but missing the vegetarian haggis which I was curious to try as I enjoy the non-veg version. I asked our server (who was very nice but very busy) but it never made an appearance. We still enjoyed our meal and will visit Scran again the next time we’re in Edinburgh.

Best dining experience in Scotland! The staff is very pleasant, great welcome even though we were soaked! They brought us something to dry off, and also a chair to put our soaked coats on. Tino best waiter!!

best breakfast place!! never disappoints! coffee and chai is spectacular, with meals that have the freshest ingredients that are cooked to perfection. my go to place while travelling edinburgh. in the more expensive side but super worth it!!

Fantastic Scottish Breakfast - definitely worth trying! The potato scone and veggie haggis are fantastic! A must try for anyone visiting Scotland, and it's amazing that vegetarians won't miss out on trying haggis.

Breakfast on a Saturday morning. Absolutely good food. Had the regular French toast and a late which were excellent. Nice thick slices of brioche and tons of fruit. Everyone else loved their dishes as well. If you get the poached eggs don’t try to change them. Make sure to get them just as the cook intended.

Such amazing service! The gentleman serving me was extremely friendly and very on top of it! I had the loveliest experience sitting outside, drinking my beer, and admiring the architecture of bustling Cockburn Street. 10/10 would recommend!

Outstanding. Warm welcome, family of 7, all enjoyed breakfast food and drinks. Best haggis I've ever tasted too. Great coffee, lovely staff, good value, very clean, swift efficient service. Absolutely nothing to complain about, great visit, thanks.

Good Burgers, chips are average, and coffee was a bit burnt. But service was very poor. It's was a quite night, I was second person to be there for food. Took 20mins and me asking to get my drink, which wasnt the drink I ordered. My food took 40mins but arrived after 2 groups who came in later than me got theirs and they had also ordered burgers like me. Clearly forgot my order and only realised when I asked about it, they did discount the drink without me asking but they should of seen I hadn't got my drink and they had served food to people after me.

Really good value for money! I recommend the bozo burger its delicious.

The place is curious because it is somewhat hidden but it is pleasant and above all I want to highlight that Tino attended us, who has been a charming person, professional and, who are one of those people who encourage you to return. Thanks, Tino.

A great Scottish breakfast in a great atmosphere. The service staff were very nice and professional. If you really want to have a delicious breakfast in Edinburgh, you should do it there.

A great little spot for a bite to eat, a coffee, or a pint right in the heart of Edinburgh. The wait staff are excellent (thanks Scully!) and create a friendly and welcoming environment. Fairly priced dishes including classic Scottish fares. Big bonus is they’re open and serve food late.

Absolutely hands down the worst breakfast of all time ever. Both of us had eggshells in our dishes. My poached eggs were overcooked while my friends were still raw. My “focaccia” was the bottom of a cheap bread roll. And our hot chocolate was 100% chocolate free. Such a disappointment as this was a return visit. It cost us over £40 for raw eggs Benedict and avocado “focaccia”a cup of hot milk and the worst cup of tea ever. Last year we had a delicious breakfast there this year was absolutely atrocious. We will not be returning.

Our first visit to Edinburgh and we popped into Scran for a coffee, but all the food looked so good we couldn’t resist staying for a breakfast roll. Amazing value for money, really good quality, tasty food. Great flat white too! Highly recommend.

After being recommended by my concierge, I stopped by Scran Bistro for lunch on my first day in Edinburgh. It was a hop, skip and a jump away from my hotel. Was seated quickly and enjoyed a delicious shredded beef wrap. My server Yolanda was great! Special shout out to Cyrus who came over to my table to make sure everything was okay. Lots to choose from on the menu. Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood!

Food is below average, definitely overpriced for what you get. Waiter took forever to get us water. Vegetarian options were tasteless.

Wouldent recommend this place sat in for some lunch ordered the beef burger with no cheese and loaded cajun fries and a tryed to order a fresh orange and lemonade was told thay don't do that. Only to see 5 min later other take order one and get it. Order arrived about 20 min later was starving but order was wrong burger arrived with cheese on it. Thay took it back and had to wait fir a new one to be made took another 10 min and yes you guessed it wrong again right burger only thay gave me plian chips this time so sent back again by this point I was pissed of and very hungry so give this place a miss.

Nice lunch. First cappucino and then a Caesar salad. Friendly staff. Given the decor and the age of the visitors, our daughters would have liked to do an Insta shoot here. We haven't tried it. Probably garlic oil in the Caesar salad, because mints were needed!

We went there for brunch. I ordered the french toast, it was delicious, the fruits were fresh! We had ordered hot drinks while we were waiting to be seated. They didn’t bring out our coffees in the waiting area, we were served our drinks when we were seated at the table and the drinks were cold. They must have made it before and served it right after we sat down, which wasn’t a pleasant experience. The service was nice and the staff were friendly. I would still recommend their food!

This review is more of a warning than a review. I tried to eat here but they turned me away for having celiac even though they have a gluten free menu. Do not recommend for someone with celiac or a gluten allergy.

Excellent food, the place, the cleanliness, the flavor and especially the super attention of Tino, the person who served us, always attentive to our needs and offered to take photographs without asking.

Stopped here for a quick breakfast before getting the train home. Was quickly seated and provided with a menu by friendly waiting staff. The menu is great with lots of options, was quite hard to choose what I wanted! I settled on the Scottish breakfast which was superb. Lots of quite quality ingredients. Breakfast was also a decent size and filled me for the rest of the day. My girlfriend chose to have the bacon, eggs and waffles with maple syrup. She requested scrambled eggs rather than fried which they were happy to accommodate. She also enjoyed her meal and again the portion size was big, so much so that she couldn’t finish it. Service was very friendly and everything was prompt. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back next time I’m in Edinburgh.

We went there a few days ago only for coffee, we saw the food menu and decided to come back. Today we went to have some breakfast and we loved it. We had the focaccia with salmon, focaccia with bacon, eggs Benedict and pancakes. The staff members are lovely and very attentive, a nice place to go with your family.

We had a delicious breakfast, we had just arrived in the city, our waiter was extremely helpful and very helpful, he gave us the best recommendations for food and places around us! I would return many more times.

A great lunch spot if you’re in the centre and looking for some yummy food with a cosy vibe! I got the Nutella and strawberry waffles which were really tasty! They were super generous with the Nutella - and that’s coming from a chocolate lover!!! The coffee was also really great - the caramel iced latte was exactly how I like them. The staff were really friendly and helpful, which made the place have an extra cosy feel.

What a smashing breakfast, as you can see it was amazing, almost licked the plate clean good. The breakie was so scrumptious, nothing wrong with it, top class. Arrived super fast, first time trying haggas, so a new experience, loved the taste, the black pudding is not my cup of tea though but can see why it's served. Excellent experience folks, little lacking on the service, plates on table of many patrons as the staff are busy with other things, didn't see anyone back to see if we wanted anything else or the bill though. Great location, great atmosphere. Definitely recommending this venue... Thanks Scran, you made my day.

We LOVED this place! Rebecca was the BEST waitress we had in Edinburgh & the food was SO GOOD! Fast & friendly service, & the stored our luggage inside while we ate outside. We ate both breakfast & lunch here & everything was perfect!

Rainy day stop for a coffee and morning roll. Very attentive staff and very nice bakery products and rolls. The full breakfasts and lunch type food be easten around us looked amazing!

Food was the definition of style over substance. The chicken in the club sandwich was straight from a packet. All of the food was dry, the pancakes were grainy. The only thing that was decent was our coffee and the server was nice enough.

Location is good but the food is really sub-par and even worse when the price is factored in. Got a full breakfast, and it was clearly premade and waiting to go, very poor quality . The egg was also raw with clear egg white. Service was quick and atmosphere was fine.

I visited here whilst at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We didn't book, just stumbled across it and walked in. It's much bigger than first anticipated, with lots of seating inside as well as out. The staff are very welcoming, and asked if we would prefer to be inside or out. As it got busier, the inside seating was full. I'm unsure if you can book this restaurant, but if you want to sit inside I advise you do so! Myself and my friend ordered the same, a Scran Stack. It was really good value, and very very tasty! Avocado, streaky bacon, black pudding, hash brown, potato scone, topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. The poached egg was cooked perfectly! Not so runny that there was uncooked white, but not so overdone that the yolk was solid, just perfect! The coffees here are also lovely, showing that the baristas are trained properly. Our coffees had different patterns in them. Despite being very busy due to the Fringe Festival, the restaurant didn't feel rushed and was staffed appropriately. We got our food and drinks in good time and the staff were always on hand if we needed them. When we return to Edinburgh, we will definitely visit Scran again, there's much more on the menu I would like to try!
