Food was tasty, came out fast, portions big. Staff pleasant and friendly. Little bit stunned with 10% service charge added to the bill and then you need to ask staff to be removed. We don't mind leaving a tip but it felt a bit uncomfortable asking for it to be removed. Felt like we were forced to leave tip.

Wanted a traditional Scottish brekkie and we got it - there were more staff than customers so it felt a little crowded, it didn’t help that the table was too small to accommodate 4 people with food and coffee… but the food was great; just expect to pay city prices

We came here a year ago and liked it so much that we came back twice. We visited Edinburgh again this year and went back as we had enjoyed it but we were a bit disappointed with our visit. We were left waiting outside for quite a while in the cold before being brought inside to a table. Though it wasn’t much warmer inside. The food was nice and well presented. I had the eggs royale and the eggs were cooked perfectly and the fresh salmon was good too. The mocha was a bit cool but it was nice. The toilet had no hot water and no hand drier. Despite this we were charged a 10% ‘discretionary’ service charge without being asked which I don’t think was warranted on top of already more expensive prices. £41 for two breakfast/brunch meals and two coffees. This is a good place but I think there are better places where you can get better service, food and atmosphere and spend the same money.

Stopped here for breakfast this morning and was really impressed. My husband and I had a 3 item roll each, which were massive. £20 was brilliant value for 2 rolls, a coffee and a pot of tea just off the Royal Mile. We rolled out of there with very full stomachs! Would highly recommend!

Great brunch spot, loved the food! Great options for everyone including teens and having pancakes. It’s a quick block walk away from the tourist trap. Our waiter was very thoughtful and nice.

The place is nice and the breakfast wasn't bad but what leaves something to be desired is the service. Rude, slow and unfriendly staff. They added the discreetry service charge without asking me whether I wanted to pay it or not. The only nice, kind and polite waitress is the one who wears the hijab.

Tino was an amazing waiter! He was so excited to find out we knew Spanish and his hospitality was 10/10 from beginning to end. Would definitely recommend this spot!

We visited Scran Bistro today, it was not up to our expectations. The service was very poor as the server was rushing me to giving my order when I was trying to ask questions regarding the menu and they didn’t clear the food on the table even though we were finished for a long time and finally had to get up and go to the counter to pay.

Great atmosphere for a Tuesday. Had to wait 10 mins for a table. Was worth the wait for the food! Just a little on the pricey side. Two coffees for £9.90 and the breakfast was £15 each.

Came here for a late breakfast/brunch instead of dining in our hotel. Popped in on a whim without a reservation and the manager was accommodating, finding us a space outside in the arcade. The "outdoor" seating can be a bit cold but they have tried to alleviate this with heaters and blankets provided, we didn't find it uncomfortable in the middle of December! The coffee was delicious and the food portions were enormous, definitely sets you up for the day. The staff are really polite and friendly too.

Food was nice and coffee lovely. However, the staff were unfriendly and unprofessional. The woman who served us was patronising and sniggered when I asked for more information on what bread the bun was. She said ‘it’s just a bun…’. None of the staff seemed happy, in fact, one was crying in the corner and for most of the time she served someone. It was a really odd experience and I would only go back if I did take away. I would pick somewhere else instead first though…

I had the breakfast wrap, and it was absolutely amazing—packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. The chips were good, though nothing to shout about. My girlfriend had the cranberry, Brie, and bacon croissant, which she said was very nice. The service was friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit

Best breakfast in Edinburgh during my visit this year. I am traveling with my family and we are around 10 people, which is big number for restaurants in UK generally. We walked-in without reservation, and the restaurant manager ensured to arrange tables for us and it was only available in the outdoor area and the weather was very cold, he made all his effort to seated us indoor. The service and the servers were fantastic. The food was delicious, especially the halloum wrap. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The kindness and hospitality of the staff made our day, as visitor nice gesture make difference in our experience. I highly recommend visiting this restaurants.

Everything is lovely here in Scran, great Scottish Breakfast, top sausage! Good service and good coffee too, -1 point only for the lack of mustard! Do not be confused by the 2 locations in the same arcade as only 1 does the breakfast, great stuff.

My experience here: waiter took my menu without me ordering, and I was served without cutlery. Unfriendly waitress, but the man who seemed like the owner was great. Food was alright, nothing special. It wasn't a bad experience, I just think the waiters are too distracted. Short wait for food, though.

Very nice place lovely food and service

We sat in the other area (darker and wooden decor) which was lovely and cozy. Kind and attentive waitress who couldn't have done more for us. Kinder Bueno milkshake was to die for and the meal sizes were large. Bbq chicken wrap was delicious as well as the breakfast bap. We were so full from our lunch here we didn't have much for tea. Will revisit next time we're in Edinburgh for sure.

I’m quite shocked at the amount of positive reviews and would not be surprised if the majority are fake. My partner and I visited for breakfast wanting to sit in the area as pictured when you search for Scran Bistro, when we arrived it was full but there was a man informing us that the restaurant next door was the same place. This was confirmed when the menus matched the restaurant name. We sat down in a dark seating area with music videos playing in the background (not a very friendly atmosphere). Ordered our breakfasts and juice. The juice took about 10 minutes to arrive and following this the food came. The man serving was friendly although not very attentive. I ordered the Scran Stack. Initially it looked quite impressive, however, this had a tiny amount of hollandaise sauce drizzled on top of the egg supplying barely any moisture to the dish at all. The ingredients were stacked between 3 thick slices of bread which were lightly spread with some sort of shop bought tasting guacamole as opposed to nice smashed avocado. The ingredients such as the bacon and tattie scone were completely cold and chewy and the whole thing was dry and basically inedible. I wanted to say something about it but my partner insisted we pay and leave as I was upset. But I wanted to ensure that others had seen a true review and don’t get lured into this tourist trap.

Lovely launch food is tasty but the macaroni wrap as too much macaroni on one side compared to the other they might mix it more to be even on both sides.

Came here for a birthday meal and it was great. Took some time to get our food, because we did order at a busy time, so it's okay, as they offered a drink for the wait. Service was excellent. Will be coming back soon.

We left without eating today after being left waiting 50mins for 2x breakfasts, that never arrived. I’d highly recommend going elsewhere, if it’s good service you’re after.

He interacted with all his customers providing a personal service seldom seen in many establishments. He is a great asset to scran. We went by chance as two couples and we were very happy. We received clean, attentive service. We almost wiped and vacuumed our plates because they tasted delicious. Food was OK - but not great. I had a burger and fries that was on par with pub food. My wife had pumpkin spice french toast that didn't taste like pumpkin spice at all. Service was pretty bad. My food came out 5 minutes before hers. It took 10 minutes after I ordered a beer for it to arrive. I had to ask the waitress twice to bring ketchup (she acknowledged the first time and then forgot). Next time, I'll try harder to find a place to eat in the area.

If you want to chill out from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, just a few blocks away from the castle you can find a very friendly, budget friendly bistro. Staff is superb, specially Tino with his very needed recommendations, I had a chippotle chicken wrap and it was delicious. We also enjoy local whisky and a lovely chat .

We had a short break and a Cappucino (a pretty great one btw) here a few days ago. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. A kind gentleman in his 50s (I think) welcomed us, offered us a few nice places to sit. After realizing that we wanted to stay outside (even though it was a bit colder and quite windy), he prepared the table as fast as possible and made sure we really wanted to stayt there, haha. These may seem like obvious things to state. But as someone, who works in service, I can tell when I see a host, who is not playing a role, but instead is an actual welcoming person, who wants to take care of his guests (not just customers). This gentleman was great! Then our waiter, Tino, arrived. He was so open hearted, welcoming, funny and friendly. He as well wanted to make sure we were "crazy" enough to stayt outside :) He made sure everything was all right and even took pictures of us. And all of this oviously as a genuine host, who wants to do nice things for two random people. Even though we stayed at Scran for only half an hour, Tino and his colleague made such an impression, that I had to write this review. We will come back! Short: great, great service, amazing Cappucini, clean toilet and nice atmosphere. Cheers
