The Barns in South Staffordshire

We celebrated a 65th Birthday, there were 14 of us in the group, so we were given a table upstairs, so far so good. We had to pre order the food, so basically cooked in advance, “ how far in advance “ We started with the prawn cocktail Just me and the wife on these, everyone else had something else. The wife left hers because she didn’t like the smell, I ate mine as I thought it would be okay, let’s just say the contents of the world came out of my stomach later on. Moving onto the main meal, steak overcooked, burgers overcooked, a lot of the party were not impressed, we were coming back later in the year to celebrate a 60th, looks like we’re going elsewhere. I expected more for the price, something akin to a succulent steak, but that succulent steak becomes something else when you pre cook it, and stick it under a lamp to keep it warm All in all, dissapointing

Despite a lacklustre experience last year, I ended up returning to the Barns for an event booked in their upstairs function room in February. Again, there's a small free public car park next door to the hotel, but it's pretty uneven so take care if you're parking up especially at night. When I arrived it wasn't too busy, so I was able to get served quickly at the bar. I remembered where the staircase was for the upper floor but there's no signposting so ask at the bar for directions. Anyhow, the upstairs room is still very beautifully kept with vases of fresh flowers and fairy lights across the beams. The pub is kept very warm, just what you need on a cold evening! We were served at about 8pm. My starter of tomato soup was lovely, a huge improvement on last year's mushroom and stilton, and the veggie main course was also pleasant - clean plates all 'round. Unfortunately the gravy jugs must've been sitting for a while as there was a thick skin formed on them and it had a set, jelly-like texture when it got to pouring - a bit offputting but there's not much one can do about that when all food's been lined up for serving at the same time. The baked apple was a good portion size but very cinnamon-heavy so make sure you like your spice! Staff were friendly and served courses promptly but again there were only about three people on duty. The food was great but no water had been brought for the tables, nobody checked to see if there were any issues or even asked if things were OK, etc. Normally you'd pop to the bar if any problems but it's down a flight of stairs and across the ground floor. It's a shame because 1) this also happened last year, and 2) that extra bit of customer service could've bumped my rating up to a four. At the end of the day, it's an improvement but still £40 a head if you include a couple of drinks - a fair chunk of change - so 'average' really does describe it.

First time visiting for a Sunday lunch with family. We ordered the turkey, beef and Sunday special for mains with a side of pigs in blankets. The turkey was succulent and moist and beef melted in your mouth, plenty of vegetables, big Yorkshire puddings and a big gravy boat. The desserts of crème brûlée and white chocolate cheesecake and cream were delicious. The perfect Sunday lunch. Staff are very friendly and helpful, I would highly recommend The Barnes, and I will certainly be returning again.

We were looking for a venue to have a Sunday lunch with family, to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary on the weekend of 2nd February. We decided to do a "reccy" a couple of weeks beforehand and we're most impressed and as a consequence booked a table for 6 of us for 2nd February. We were not disappointed. Food was the same high standard as previously, delicious, with generous servings and all reasonably priced. Restaurant staff were friendly and helpful and helped to make it an occasion to remember. Many thanks to them to assist in bringing in a surprise celebration cake that our daughter had brought to the meal. The Barns has certainly become one of our favourite dining out places.

Had our wedding here on January 25th and couldn’t wish for a better day me and my wife would like to thank Bruce and his team for going above and beyond for us. Nikki looked after us on the Friday making sure the room was all set up. John who looked after us all day on our wedding day was absolutely fantastic they just took the pressure off us. The food was amazing and the young lads working on the bar throughout the night was fantastic and the bridal suite looked amazing. Would highly recommend this venue

We had our wedding here on the 26.01.25 and what an amazing day we had. From start to finish it was perfect. John who looked after us was absolutely amazing and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The food was beautiful and the hotel rooms were spotless and very comfy. I would 100% recommend to anyone looking to have their wedding here or to even have food in the restaurant and stay in the hotel. The Barns, Cannock – Outstanding Wedding Venue! We had our wedding at The Barns in Cannock on Monday 23rd December 2024, and it was nothing short of perfection. Despite only booking our wedding in September, the team went above and beyond to make everything seamless and stress-free. From start to finish, the staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. We had a final details meeting a month before the big day, which was so relaxed and informative. It really put my mind at ease, knowing everything was under control. The food was absolutely unbelievable! The portions were huge, and so many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding food they had ever had – a real highlight of the day. Everything ran like clockwork on the day itself. The venue is beautiful, the service impeccable, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Great place, clean, excellent food and place

Attended for the wedding of my son. Everything about this place was superb. Staff were friendly, helpful and couldn't have been more attentive. The Wedding Breakfast menu was extensive and full A La Cart choices. Food was wonderful. From the Housekeepers to Reception, from Bar Staff to Waiting staff everyone was brilliant. An amazing Venue, an amazing Team. Full marks for everything 28.08.24

Went to the Barns for Christmas Day lunch and couldn’t fault a single element of it. Great atmosphere as you’d want for a special occasion, staff were great and the food as is always the case, was exceptional. We’ll be back next year!

Ate here for the first time and the food was so so good, very reasonably priced and such a nice atmosphere. Defo can recommend the barns burger and the home made chips and coleslaw were perfect. Great service and happy to recommend thanks.

We always book the barns for family events because we are never disappointed. We visited last night for my birthday. Everything from the menu choices, the quality of the food, the service and the ambience was perfect. Can’t wait to return.

Our favourite restaurant. Food was once again amazing I can thoroughly recommend the lamb. Reasonably priced, fantastic quality and the staff couldn’t do enough for you nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be visiting again.

We come here for delicious food

I booked a table for a Saturday lunchtime to have a meal with my fiancee on her Birthday. It only took a phone call to book a table which made a change from having to go online. The dining area was tastefully decorated and included local history pictures on the walls which was a nice touch. The staff that took our respective orders were polite without being overbearing and as for the food itself it was well presented with the portions being generous to the least. This part of Staffordshire sadly doesn't possess an abundance of quality places to eat with this establishment being a beacon of light and I would recommend to anyone who is visiting Cannock or nearby and who wants high quality food at reasonable prices to make own way to The Barns and I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful place, eat alot here as food is delicious but never stayed until now. Rooms are nice enough, the drawers were broken but we weren't using them so no issues to us, ordered food to the room, will be staying again

Been here twice now and the food has been lovely both times. Both times have been a Sunday afternoon. Went as a family group of 12 both times and reserved in advance. Food was lovely with good sized portions. Both times now not one of us has the room to order a dessert as all full. See you again when were back up in Cannock in February.

I recently visited The Barns for a few drinks with a colleague who was leaving. To my surprise, I was charged £163.10 for a Pepsi Max. When I noticed the charge through a phone notification and brought it up with the bar staff, I was made to feel like I was lying, even after showing them the transaction on my banking app. The staff didn’t seem apologetic, and no gesture of goodwill was offered. They eventually refunded £160, but the overall experience was not pleasant.

Back at our local to sample the new menu after being abroad. A warm welcome as usual with a friendly atmosphere. We were seated & served promptly despite it being a busy day with a wedding & large function taking place. Myself & my Mom ordered the plaice which was fantastic. My brother had the Thai salmon kebabs which he was delighted with also. The 2 ladies at the table next to us ordered the Tuscan chicken & seemed very happy with it so we will back again to work our way through the rest of the menu.

What can I say!! Absolutely fantastic place and staff. From night porters, reception team, housekeepers, bar staff and of course John the manager nothing was too much trouble. All so polite and helpful. Meal the night before my friends wedding was superb, good portion, breakfast are beautiful. Wedding meal excellent. Found The Barns on the CAMRA website. We are travelling from our home in the north of Scotland to the ferry in Plymouth and made The Barns our stopover. Rooms are lovely and the bathroom, in particular the shower, excellent. Went down to the bar for a drink. Excellent real ale and my wife loved the Shiraz. The meal was superb, beautifully cooked and the portions were most generous. I have no hesitation in recommending The Barns, we will certainly pay another visit when in the area.

We booked the Barns as our wedding venue after having it from Leicestershire to Staffordshire due to an unforeseen issue From the initial meeting we were always treated as individuals and nothing was ever too much trouble for Bruce and his team They always answered our queries and constant questions and we always felt Informed and involved throughout. The day itself was fantastic from start to finish, John the wedding coordinator was brilliant in reassuring a very nervous groom (me) , ensured the bridal party were where they needed to be at the right times The food was brilliant and no one could believe that they could actually pick from A prearranged menu….rather than the very boring and traditional method of eating the same as everyone else The DJ supplied was great and played such a varied playlist that kept the dancefoor busy all night The staff worked tirelessly to make the room change’s from ceremony to meal to evening reception just seamless so a massive thanks from us to you all

Was here on Saturday with friends and it was great , all my friend and i cleared our plates. Great food , Very polite and helpful staff . For those who have been i highly recommend it We will be returning on our next trip that way ..

Came for Anniversary meal, food was awful and bland definitely not worth the money. Table wasn't ready and not shown to just told where to go. Portions were so small especially the Salmon no sauce or crust on it. Not good value and not brilliant staff.

We have visited numerous times in the past for lunch as well as attending functions and always enjoyed our visits. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the food was somewhat underwhelming with both meals being just bland and lacking flavour. The service and welcome was fine but sadly you can get far better lunch meals at surrounding pubs in nearby Cannock, Burntwood or Lichfield.

Went to The Barns this evening for a meal as they always offer a lot of gluten free options. As always the service was impeccable and the meals were plentiful and hot. Our starters were spot on and we then went on to have our mains. We’d both gone for the Gammon, however even though the majority of the food was excellent ( I didn’t want peas so they gave me mushrooms) the gammon was incredibly salty and I couldn’t eat mine. I did mention it to two members of staff but I didn’t really get any response. I will go to The Barns again, especially during the colder months as the gf bread and butter pudding is yummy.

Myself and my wife and my mum and dad had our evening at The Barns just now. We all ordered different dishes, the food was delicious, plentiful, very reasonable prices. The staff were exemplary, vey polite, efficient, a real credit to the place. Thank you very much 🙂👍

My wife and I held our wedding here on 27.7.24 and we couldn’t have wished for a better day! Consultation- we first met with Bruce 3 years ago, after looking at several venues we instantly felt at ease at The Barns. We wasn’t pushed, we wasn’t told how our day would go and Bruce even explained how there were things we didn’t need such as canapés etc where other venues had insisted we had them. To us it felt like we were in control of our day and upselling was not their priority. The lead up to the day: emails flowed nicely and we were booked in to do our final decisions. We met with John and nothing was too much trouble. The day before: Bruce was there to great us and help unload our decor etc as a bridezilla who had planned everything to a T I wasn’t worried at all and rightly so. Come the day my wife had stayed the night before. Our bridesmaids arrived early and sorting breakfast for 6 bridesmaids last minute was no issue. An extra room had been put aside for more space to get ready without question. I arrived around 11am and the next hour and half went fast but John was on hand to ensure all was calm and in order. Fixing my corsage when I hadn’t a clue. Getting us in order into the ceremony and making sure our whole day was organised. Food and drink: amazing! Everyone I spoke to raved about the food, so impressed that they had a choice at each course, not like other venues where everyone had the same. Food was hot, served quickly and everyone left the wedding breakfast full! Evening buffet was hot roast and again so much food, no one left hungry. Everyone at the barns were friendly, reassuring and went above and beyond. Even when one of our rooms got cancelled accidentally as 2 people had the same name, it was sorted quickly by the team and a room was found. I can’t say I will be getting married again lol but I can honestly say I will not hesitate to recommend The Barns to anyone who is looking for a wedding venue. We was at family Wedding nearby and booked to stay at The Barns overnight. Had a lovely comfortable stay. It was a lovely clean room and a fan was provided which was very handy. The bed was very comfortable and not a tiny double like some hotels provide. It was very quiet there overnight, even though there was a wedding being held at the venue. The shower was very powerful. The staff here are wonderful. The receptionist gave us a warm welcome. The breakfast was lovely hot, very tasty and not greasy. The breakfast staff was amazing. So friendly and efficient. They worked so well together amazing team work. You can tell how well a place is run behind the scenes by seeing how well the staff work together and are happy in their job. Thank you all for a very pleasant stay.

Belated anniversary meal decided to visit the barns. Concur fully with previous reviewer regarding initial service. Almost left without ordering due to sitting there for an age before any waiting staff came. Lots of staff but no organisation whatsoever. Food came & I thought it tasted fine & devoured it as we hadn’t eaten that day. I ordered the gammon, my husband said he thought it wasn’t cooked but it tasted fine so we consumed our food. Very soon after leaving I suffered the most terrible stomach pains resulting in discharge almost immediately too which continued throughout night & following day. This was down to the meal. My husband contacted the barns regarding this only to be told that likelihood it was other illnesses circulating namely COVID etc. He was also told that they were stringent on food checks preparation & service? As no other complaints were received they would report this to environmental health too? I very much doubt that will be the case & how a director as his titled email stated can diagnose gastro related ailments is truly remarkable. Needless to say a return won’t be happening. Go elsewhere.

Hotel rooms are lovely and clean, location is on a busy road, so it's not the barn vibe you expect. The restaurant was very disappointing with no vegetarian options. There were 2 vegan options, both of which were tasteless and, as a non vegan, I do not appreciate being forced down that road as the only choice.

Been for a meal tonight back in the day this place was somewhere you needed to go and could never get a reservation what happened. This is not a complaint I’m trying to help the service was 5 star but the food was shocking the starter was warm but not that nice the main course was horrible the chips tasted of dirty fat and well let’s just say I won’t go back you have a beautiful venue and I know you do a lot of weddings and functions but sort your chef out and you will be packed good luck for the future as you really can turn this around.

Turned without booking but was told you can choose any table not reserved. Barman took drinks order which promptly arrived. Great selection of food including sandwiches I liked the idea of being able to choose a small plate with all the quality of main. Both of us had lasagne one of the best. Thanks 😊

Had my 60th birthday meal at the Barns, everyone who attended thought the set menu was value for money, the staff couldn't do enough for you despite the bar restaurant being full, a large wedding party and two full large tables upstairs. Many thanks to all for making my meal special.

Very very hot inside. I had to keep going outside. Food is ok , nothing out of the ordinary.

Lovely staff and food and great service clean and comfortable accommodation, Stayed 2 nights would come back after this great stunning food and fabulous service from time I arrived to the time I left . May me have stunning views but you ignore that when your there with everything else with the rooms finished to a high standard

Touch pricey but enjoyed our stay

Popped in on way to Scotland stayed the night, rooms good, clean decent size, the food was also very good along with a very decent brandy, would definitely stay again.

I cannot thanks the staff enough for their prompt actions on a night that will live in my memory forever. On Thursday 7th March I suddenly became ill and collapsed into unconsciousness and fitting. The friends who were with me told me I was unconscious / fitting for over 20 minutes. Going in and out of consciousness. The staff helped put me in the recovery position and helped bring me round. The paramedics who took me to hospital advised that my blood pressure had suddenly dropped and why I started to feel light headed and a cold sweat before I collapsed. I am so thankful to everyone that helped on Thursday night. I am not sure without the staff and my friends that I would be here writing this today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

First time staying at the Barns which was for a business trip. Lovely hotel with spacious and clean rooms. The restaurant was lovely. Only let down was very little vegetarian options and breakfast was quite greasy and felt like it had been heated in the microwave rather than fresh.

Met with a group of friends for lunch on this occasion. Have used the Barns on numerous occasions over the past few years and never disappointed with the food or accomodation when stayed over for example New Year Celebrations. Venue always clean and well cared for. Staff very pleasant and helpful, certainly would recommend.

Lovely food although the lite bites menu does seem to get smaller each time we go.

The Barns's second-floor private room was hired by a very large group of us for a party in February 2024. We pre-ordered our food before coming along. There's a small free public car park next to the hotel if you can't get a space outside - just be warned it's uneven under-tyre, so first gear is a must! Upon arriving, there wasn't a restaurant desk or anywhere to really signpost us - I tried to ask passing waitstaff when I could identify them in the Friday night crowd, but they were run off their feet. I ended up sticking my head around different areas including the bar and the function room trying to locate my troop. Eventually I went back to the bar to order a drink and hopefully an opportunity to stop someone long enough to ask for some directions (which I did receive). It would've been good to perhaps have the private room on the signposting, especially as the stairs are tucked away behind the main restaurant. I found where I was meant to be eventually, all was well. The second-floor hall is pleasantly decorated with fairy lights across the beams, chandeliers, thick patterned curtains and black and white photos. There isn't a bar there, you'll have to go back down to order drinks but there are loos which are convenient. Onto the food: the starter I ordered (the mushrooms in stilton sauce) wasn't fantastic. It's a shame that the party menu doesn't have the mushroom and stilton toast instead from their main menu, which sounds far better! The sauce was watery and the salad had started to brown around the edges, so that was left uneaten. Again I wanted to bring it up with one of the waitstaff, but they didn't appear again until the end of the starter to collect the dishes - by that point, it was too late for me to ask for a replacement salad. We weren't asked if we enjoyed our starter or if there were any issues. The main course was nicer, and the staff were much more attentive, including checking in on us during the courses. I'm not a fan of shared dishes of veg and potatoes on large tables as it's always a bit of a pain passing them around, but we worked out a system in the end and at least this way everyone got the sides that they wanted. The tarte au citron was lovely - in fact, all of the puddings looked good. Just the right portion size and cream was served in separate jugs for self-serve. The waitstaff offered teas and coffees afterwards, which came with small chocolate mints and sachets of cream. 3 seems a bit harsh especially as the room is beautiful and service did pick up as the evening went on, but when it comes to parting with hard-earned coin, there are other establishments I prefer in Cannock.

Always a nice place to stay eat and drink

Jenny and the team were amazing for breakfast this morning. Food was delicious. We also had a party there last night food and service was great, everyone got what they wanted to eat. It was a wonderful night for my husband's 40th. Thank you to everyone involved last night and this morning. Everyone was really nice and polite.

There were 25 of us staying at the Barns for an evening meal and a business conference. All our needs were catered for with no trouble and Jenny and the whole Barns team couldn't be more welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent. Thanks again

Well what can I say my son booked his wedding over 2 years ago and the day finally arrived. What a day it was from the minute we arrived we were greated by John who was with us all day and what a fantastic job he did. The ceremony was amazing, along with the decorations supplied by Eventieleganti Venue Decoration. The weather let us down a little for outside photographs but made up for it inside the Barn as so many places to go. John then announced the couple in for our Wedding Breakfast the meal was delicious and I have never know where you have the choice of 3 for starter, main and dessert and you can order on the day! Then John became Toast Master - finally all headed for the Bar while the room was set up for the evening and once again he made sure throughout the night that everything was perfect. The hog roast was exceptional and if anyone ever worried there wouldn't be enough for 180 guests don't because there was loads. Breakfast the next morning was also so tasty and considering how many of us booked rooms it all went of to perfection. So a massive thank you to the Barns and their amazing team of staff because you have made a nervous Mum's day the BEST.

I must say we have been here many times without real issues but last night was poor. There was obviously a wedding going on so staff were pushed. Food here isn’t cheap pub grub but I had Thai curry which was spicy but tasteless, someone should tell the chef that they use lemongrass in Thailand. We also ordered 2 steaks cooked medium well, one came medium rare and the other was rare and wasn’t eaten as a result , no one came to see if our meals were ok so when the plates were cleared we commented on the steak that was left, 1 free sweet was offered as compensation but we declined. The bill arrived without anything knocked off and a £25 steak ended up in the bin.we don’t go out to get money knocked off but we certainly don’t go out to get ripped off either. Sorry won’t be rushing back again.

Family function. Amazing night had by all ages. Food fantastic, drinks cheap , dj brilliant.

We had our wedding reception here in December. What can I say? All of the staff were fabulous, especially Bruce and John, but literally the whole team couldn't do enough for us. The venue is lovely and the food was great. I'm so glad that we chose to have our special celebration at The Barns. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to anybody. Thank you so much folks. X

We held our annual Christmas Lunch here (7th year running) and have to say as usual we were not disappointed, Jenny and her team made us feel very welcome as usual and food and service was excellent. They always go above and beyond and i couldn't recommend this place enough. we also use the Hotel facilities for our employees who have to travel and they too have positive experiences. Thank you Jenny for looking after us we will see you very soon.

Came here for New Years Eve, 5 course meal and disco. Wow Jenny and her team were amazing we made two requests one being needing a pin for a dress malfunction and both were met. They went above and beyond in a friendly manner and make sure we were 110% happy 😊 Thank you so much for providing us with such wonderful service defiantly recommend!

Some nights at The Barns Hotel. During a job not to far away I stayed in this Hotel. Very nice location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a great stay. Would stay again once necessary and available. 👍

The barns is the only hotel the team at work will stay in, you walk in the door and they know who you are, they know what you drink and your favourite items on the menu, the food is homley and always filling, we are never left dissatisfied with any meal we have at the barns, Jenny is always smiling and can have brilliant conversations with her. sue, sue pours the best Guinness outside of Ireland, stopping at the barns makes staying away from home with it! Thanks to the team and your homley hospitality every time!

Meal for 7 but no one really raved about any of the meals... I had the hot chilli pulled beef thing and was told its hot which I was fine about as I like hot food... but it wasn't hot at all, it was quite dry and bland like it was sat around for a few days... chips were nice. Shame this place has gone downhill. Still good for drinks though and cocktails are nice

Four of us visited this place for lunch. Lovely area to eat your food. We ordered 4 x starters. Soup Pate Mushrooms in garlic sauce Brie wedges. All starters were delicious and top marks. We ordered for mains 3 x lamb shank 1 x braised beef. The lamb fell of the bone on all three meals and was outstanding. The only let down was the braised beef. It was all dried up on the outside which made it not very succulent. What a shame as this was the only downside of the whole service. We ordered two desserts. 1 x dutch apple pie 1 x cheesecake Both of these were lovely. The staff were all lovely and seem like a great team. They were all very polite too. The drinks were very nice and between us tried the real ale, wine and coffee. The toilets are lovely and clean. Overall a decent place to eat, not cheap but good food. Would have been top marks but for the braised beef.

We went out as a family fit a birthday lunch. 9 people in total and nobody enjoyed their meal. What a shame. I ordered a burger and wad told its very spicy so I asked the waitress jf it can be made less spicy but...

We have been holding the AGM and Christmas lunch of our classic car club at The Barns Hotel for years. We've already booked for next year. Ideal facilities and located at the epicentre of our UK membership. The staff are just brilliant, always friendly & helpful and their food is just great.

Daughters wedding everything was superb.

We recently had our wedding at the Barns. We had guests from all corners of the UK. From the Orkney islands to Plymouth to Wales and Norfolk. We brought them all together to celebrate our wedding. The accommodation was fantastic. The food was fantastic and the staff were amazing. They aren't your usual stuck-up staff. They are all down to earth people and they made me and all my guests feel welcome. I defiantly recommend anyone stay, eat or even get married here.

Held my Birthday Lunch there and everything was exceptional. The organisation was very good, the service was superb and everyone commented on how good the food was and that the portions were very good indeed. Well done to all the team.
