Grotty interior that looked like it needed a good clean. The staff looked less than spruce which if sense prevailed should have made us leave. Having ordered our food we had to wait almost an hour and ask where it was twice. Having initially been told it was being plated up when it failed to arrive we were then told the gas had been going on and off causing the delay! When I asked about a large group that had arrived after us and who were now eating, I was informed that they had pre ordered. When I questioned the fact they had arrived at the bar and ordered after me and surely the gas issue should have affected them too the bar person could not answer. When the food arrived It was presented poorly and consisted of a frozen pie, frozen peas, and dreadful frozen chips all of which were tasteless. We had to ask for cutlery which was brought to the table with food residue on them! The whole experience was so dreadful it is my intention to email the CEO of SA Brain & Co and make them aware of the total lack of standards here. My advice is avoid, there are far better options locally.

Let down 9 days before party date, said double booked even though it was booked over a month prior. The staffs attitude was horrific, no empathy, never kept in contact. Felt very emotional and let down, if it wasnt for the penny farthing in Llantrisant for making my sons 30th party an amazing experience my son wanted a family meal to thank us all for our support when his son died. Do not book this place unless you want to br let down and go somewhere else.

It’s a lovely venue and the rustic traditional style of the pub is really nice and suits the area. Lovely beer garden and grounds for the kids to play. But it’s being massively let down by the food and the waitress behind the bar.. we ordered a basic jacket potato and burger, I say basic because that’s what it was, the salad dressing looked like it had been grabbed from the bag and not washed, the potato just dumped on a plate from being heated in microwave and the burger didn’t taste like a burger, it was all very rushed and slap dash...not something that any decent chef would dish up, which makes me think that this was not prepared By a chef. The girl behind the bar did not seem interested and in all fairness looked like she was trying to do 3 things at the same time. I would return here but only for a beer in the summer. Never for food. Unfortunately the barn is tucked away and so cannot survive on beer alone, unless the service is improved I can’t see the barn succeeding with its current licensee

Cannot fault our evening. We booked for a large number, were welcome to decorate as we pleased and had a truly fantastic evening. From the moment we booked, nothing was too much trouble. Many of our guests had never been and all loved it. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, even running up and down the stairs endlessly to make sure we had everything we needed. Food, as usual for this place was incredible, from perfectly cooked grills to going above and beyond for awkward dietary requirements like myself. Thank you so much everyone at The Barn that went out of their way to make this evening so special. Couldn’t recommend anywhere better, whether you want a quiet lunch or something for a larger gathering, this is a truly fantastic place to try.

Visited here today for a quick spot of lunch, decided on here as my partner mentioned there was a play area for the little ones the venue, outside area etc was great but the food was terrible. The chips were overcooked and burnt the gammon was tasteless there was also a very limited menu for lunchtime. Think they may need a new cook.

Went on table inside and ordered food and when took little one to toilet tables up back of restaurant dirty, full of dishes and not cleaned. Hour later still no sign of starter arriving so we asked for refund and left. Where to start. We ordered pretty simple meals - ham and eggs, that sort of thing. 1 whole hour it took to arrive. My ham was luke-warm, looked horrible, I tasted it and it tasted like it had been reheated and left to fester for a while. Disgusting! The egg had fluff on it, the chips average. The chef needs sacking. Utterly abysmal. My kids were satisfied with theirs, but my wife said her aubergine and pepper bake was tasteless. I could have russled this up in a fraction of the time at a fraction of the cost with minimal effort and it would have tasted far far better. Avoid this place if you plan on eating here. Horrible, horrible, horrible. They did give a refund for my meal and offered me a free dessert but the damage was done.

A beautiful child friendly garden with various children's amenities. There are also resident peacocks! The service was quick and friendly. The beers were well kept and the bar provides a decent choice beers, ciders lagers and reasonably priced wines. The food was of a decent " pub grub" quality and again fairly priced. I had good memories of the barn from many years ago so when my wife suggested lunch I was quite enthusiastic. Apparently it is now a marstons pub we ordered food got a couple of drinks and grabbed a table. It wasn’t long before we started to have misgivings. The lady on the next table was told there was no mint sauce for her lamb roast despite the menu advertising it. The gentleman at another table did not get his ordered bread rolls and was told there wasn’t any and eventually ended up with two slices of bread. After an hour our food had not arrived so my wife went to check. At the bar another man was complaining about his undercooked vegetables. After 1 hour 20 minutes we left after obtaining a refund. So very disappointing

We decided on the Barn for a rare family get together. Before writing this, I read other reviews, and was surprised to see some negative write-ups. Cant see why. Great pulled beers, Marsdons, what else? Bar staff were very helpful and flexible to a party of 8. Enjoyed the banter and jokes with the friendly bar staff. Food was plentiful and excellent quality- the venison, which I'm often reluctant to order, was superb. We all enjoyed good food and service, not one moan. Use again? Definitely!

We visited the barn a week ago on a Friday and had a lovely meal and the waitress was very nice. So decided to return this Sunday with the family. How disappointed we were and upset that i recommended this. Lunch was booked for 12.30 we arrived at 12.20 and were promptly shown to our table. The waiter took our drinks order and got 3 drinks wrong, but the waitress did correct them straight away. We waited a short while to order our food, and waitress was very helpful, but that was where it went downhill. We waited for over an hour for our food, the waitress did come and say after half hr food wont be long, but it was. The advert says amazing roast lunch, but that it was not! 3 chicken roasts 2 with a yorkshire pud 1 without, 1 beef dinner and plate was cold. The broccoli was hard as if it was still raw, some of the roasties overcooked and hard. The chicken was a breast not sliced and beef was pre packed not sliced off a joint, gravy was thin and granules not desolved properly, so no not amazing. But saying that the fish, the curry and the gammon was lovely ( although the fried egg had runny white on it ). My wife complained to the who she thought was the senior staff in shirt and tie, he took notes and said he'll find out. She said we've been waiting long time so would like dessert now so he came after 10 mins or so and cleared our plates and took our order, we waited 20 mins but they were very nice. I paid the bill and we left. Nobody came and apologised to us. Overall very disappointed

Recently as a group of 5 adults and 2 children we went to the barn for lunch. We were seated quickly by a very friendly young man and menu's were given and a drinks order taken. Drinks arrived nice and quickly. As a group of girls, we were slow to decide what to have for lunch as we were chatting, but this wasn't a problem. Between us we had the hugest lasagne ever, 2 giant burgers and 2 very substantial roast chicken sandwiches, all upgraded to sweet potato fries.I had the chicken sandwich - is was huge! Much larger than I'd expect for a lunch time meal. The chicken was nice and thick and the salad was fresh and complimentary to the super fresh bread. The fries were nice and crispy, though sadly as the sandwich was so large I couldn't manage all the fries! The children's meal was a generous size also.Sadly, due to the huge meals, we couldn't manage dessert - but this is a compliment to the mains!! Service was friendly, but non intrusive, and we had plenty of drinks during our 2 and a half hour stay. We never felt rushed to leave at any point - however it was quiet. As a group, we all needed to pay separately with cards - but this wasn't an issue at all here and we didn't feel we had put anyone out by doing this. All in all, a lovely cosy relaxed establishment - like home from home!! Excellent prices and excellent portions! I look forward to returning with friends very soon! Thank you :-)

Very rarely place negative feedback but needs must on this occasion. Went regularly last year with Grandchildren as the beer garden is safely enclosed with a park. Th e inside has been tidied up but the outside could do with some TLC. The tables and benches need a coat of varnish and a good clean. The pathways need sweeping and power washing. On a fine day this place is a magnet for families as nothing similar in vicinity. Generally needs a bit of elbow grease that's all. On the way out was really taken aback to see hygiene rating was 1! Very poor choice for vegetarians. I had choice of a curry or a burger, or a nut roast, and that's only because it's Christmas. No proper main courses available. The service was terrible. The starters and main courses arrived just as I was getting annoyed by the wait , but we then sat in front of our empty dishes for at least 20 minutes before I managed to catch the attention of a the waitress, to be told she would be there in a minute because she was busy. We watched her setting up a table for people who were due in 20 minutes - hello - your current guests are priority surely?? I requested the dessert menu, which arrived in about 5 minutes, but she then ignored us for the next 20 minutes before we got up and asked another waitress for the bill, which arrived within a couple of minutes. My "rare" steak was so over cooked it would of been easier to cut my old leather shoe sole!! Ordered a latte and out came a cappuccino with no tea plate, spoon or sugar offered. The waitresses were rude and more interested in talking to a few people at the bar who were drinking. The new menu is advertising whole tailed scampi, no its not, it's scampi in a bag from Iceland, I know this because I see the wrappers outside, bearing in mind we had alcohol that had been poured over ice and left untill the ice melted and when I pointed this out to the waitress who had gone to sit down and gossip she took it away to top it up with more ice so we has cols alcohol flavour water now... then last but not least when I went to pay for my bill begrudgingly enough. they had tried to charge us twice for all of our drinks and for dessert that we most certainly didn't have!!

Arrived at The Barn approximately Friday 3.40pm. The restaurant and bar area were very sparse. Despite this, our wait was an hour. I ordered a medium/rare T-bone and it arrived well done accompanied by stone cold chips and onion rings. When I spoke to the waitress about this I was told it was because of all the people at the bar and that when a steak is left for two minutes it will go from rare to medium – even though mine was well done, the rest of the plate of food inedible and very few people around. I felt like I was being challenged and my partner had to step in to point out that my steak was blatantly well done. The waitress did not ask my partner how their food was despite mine being completely unacceptable. The waitress brought me new chips, which I only ordered because I didn’t want my partner to feel awkward eating alone with me watching them. She offered me a new steak but having waited an hour for the last one I saw no point in us going out to a restaurant to eat at separate times. The waitress made a point of telling me that she had taken the T-bone off my bill. Honestly if she hadn’t I wouldn’t have paid for it anyway. I still ended up paying for the inedible sides which I realized after I had left.Overall a completely miserable experience and I will not be eating here again. Previously I haven’t been let down by the food here and it’s such a nice place - the internal décor is in keeping with the style of the building and the gardens are beautiful. It would be a real shame for somewhere with so much potential to be let down by basic cooking and customer service skills not being adhered too.

Well, what can I say? It has been many, many years since I have walked into a pub and been hit with the foul stench of cigarette smoke! Since it's recent (and very nice) refurbishment, they have added on a little "Lean to" outside the restaurant door. Now, this would have been lovely on a day like this (boiling hot and a light breeze!) but it was full of smokers, in fact there were only 4 tables occupied, with at least 2 people on each table smoking. Further more (not the pub's fault, but) there were also young children sitting in highchairs inhaling the passive smoke! Nice! :-(So, to get out into the beer garden, you had to walk through what could only be described as "The Opium Den"!Further more, there are no ramps into the pub or beer garden, so beware if you have pushchairs or wheelchairs, and I had to change my baby on the floor in the ladies, because there was no changing table? The ladies toilets were huge, and yet, no table. I later found out that there was one in the disabled (no signs) which baffles me, because I don't agreed with taking up disabled facilities to change a baby. All in all a pretty disapointing visit, the staff didn't actually make up for it either, they all looked just as miserable being there as I did!

Decided to try the barn after its recent revamp. Firstly we ordered beef chilli nachos to start which was absolutely gorgeous and very moorish. They set a president for the main courses. I ordered the rib eye steak which came with chips, peas, grilled tomato and rocket. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium. My meal arrived and looked relatively good but on tasting it was a whole different story. The steak was as far from medium as it could of got, the peas could of killed someone at 20 yards if shot at they were so hard, the chips had obviously been cooked twice and tasted foul, the grilled tomato looked like it had just had a cheeky glimpse at the grill and the rocket was limp as it had been placed on the hot steak. My partner chose the chicken tikka with rice and chips. Yet again on arrival it looked very nice but again on tasting a different experience all together. The rice was obviously from the microwave as it was exceptionally bland and tasteless, there was a lot of sauce but only 3 pieces of chicken, yet again the chips were foul after being cooked twice. The only thing he ate all of was the poppudom. We didn't take the opportunity to complain while we were there as it was so busy and had to wait near enough 45 minutes for our meal to start with. So apart from the nachos I wouldn't recommend the Barn one bit. It was the worst £30 we had spend, would of been much better of spent in McDonald's !!!!

Thought we would try out the barn after it had just been revamped, decor very nice with fairy lights outside. The food however after a forty min wait in a near empty pub was cold :( and foil stuck to the underside of the pizza, people with fillings beware.

Honestly, have never posted on this site before, but given the disaster that is Sunday lunch at the barn, if I can warn anyone else from attending! We went for a family Sunday lunch and the food was truly shocking. If ever a pub should stick to being just a pub and not serve food then this is the place. I know it was called the barn, but firstly a little heating would be nice given that after 10 minutes. I had to get our coats from the car. We all ordered the Sunday lunch and given it’s one of my favourite meals, this was a disaster of epic proportions. The meat was not proper meat and felt like one of those microwave in bag jobs, as was completely tasteless and given we ordered different meats (turkey, beef and pork) they all tasted the same. Secondly the vegetables and potatoes had not salted and overcooked. The roast potatoes had no taste to them. The Yorkshire puddings where burnt and the gravy was appalling. The flour had not been sieved out and was completely tasteless. Would have been better giving us Bisto granules. And the least said about the toilets the better, there was no toilet paper and nothing to wash your hands with. My wife was shocked with the state of the ladies, as there was dried urine and excrement inside the toilets which obviously had not been cleaned from the night before. The only bright thing was the young waiter/waitress serving us, unfortunately that was as good as it got! And 4 soft drinks for £10!!! The owner should be appalled with serving people this level of food and there are far better pubs serving proper food.

Visiting family in Wales and was looking forward to our lunch as had several previous pleasant stays at hotel. Flavoursome Sunday lunch was totally spoilt by lukewarm (this is being charitable) vegetables and further exacerbated by meat being served on cold plates. When asked by waitress if we enjoyed our meal on paying, we commented on cool food and her response was that it had been mentioned before by customers. Service was also very slow despite few diners present.

I moved away from Aberdare 30 years ago. Myself and my family are all from this once beautiful town and have many fond memories of this restaurant. I'm currently back in Aberdare visiting family and went to Servinnis restaurant thi morning. I found it was so depressing and tatty inside. All prices plastered over the walls, the decor was so archaic I couldn't wait to leave. For goodness sake, can't you implement some vibrancy and positive decor change to make it a restaurant that's looks and feels inviting rather than one that looks as though its on its last legs. Times have moved on since the 70's. I feel as though this place is about to be dismantled and rebuilt in St Fagans Welsh Heritage museum. There was one coffee shop in Commercial Street that looked quite vibrant, bright and modern. Please change things and more will come to you.
