The Barley Mow in City of London, Westminster

Visiting England for couple days and this pub is near our hotel… very nice staff and food is excellent.. we ordered warm red wine which is really superb.. Dinner for 5 includes hamburgers, fish and chips, Pies and pork belly… everything is excellent and even our picky kids approves what they ate this evening.. will be ba k for sure

Brilliant atmosphere & excellent, consciousness service by Hannah. 5 star. Country vegetable soup was a bit bland and my partner’s toad in the hole was stuck to the tray but still tasty. Sausage and mash was great.

Lovely pub in the heart of Westminster. Solid Sunday roast and good value. Very quiet on a Sunday afternoon and a welcome break from all the bustling tourists.

I was completely ignored by the staff memeber at an empty bar. After l asked for service he said he was busy went on to serve three others before I walked out. I'm clearly not the right demographic.

As a visitor they should post card payments only. I am a cash is king person and I don't like debt.

Found by chance on a walk through the area, got in to enjoy a pint of lager and some snacks. Nice atmosphere, and super attentive service from Leandro!

Horribly rude manager with the long hair. Never going back to this pub. Used to be our musicians hang out after concerts a few years back, but now I will never step foot in this pub again.

I ordered Sunday Roast Pork Belly. All the trimming? One Carrot , Roast potatoes poor, Yorkshire Pudding cold & dry, and for some reason loads of cabbage , tasteless gravy. The pork just about warm and tasteless. Absolutely shocking , probably the worst Roast I’ve had. And they charge for it!

Well run pub. We called in for drinks a few times in August as staying nearby. Staff and service were good and the local beers reasonably priced, for London. It gets very busy on Friday nights in particular with after work gatherings. Prompt clearing of tables and attentive bar staff. Nice to be able to sit outside with the tables on the balcony. We decided to eat there on Sunday when they offer a roast as well as the usual menu. We opted for the pies. The food arrived promptly and was fine to be fair but a bit expensive for what it was. There wasn't much of the cottage pie and my wife reckoned many people would have been left still feeling hungry. We would certainly go back there for drinks and might try something else on he menu.

Lovely little old pub nice for a drink inside or outside

I work right next to this place and our teams come here regularly for drinks. Today, I decided to have food and I’m really sorry to say that it was the worst pie I’ve ever had. It was cold and tasted like a packet meal. The pastry was hard, the meat was cold and dry with large onion bulbs in the mixture, the mash potatoes and gravy had developed a layer of skin on them. I fed this back to the team at the bar who were friendly and apologetic. Secondly, charging a service charge for pouring a coke (collected at the bar) is unreasonable. I like the pub and hope you can sort these issues.

Great bar/pub. The staff is fun and friendly. The drinks are reasonable in price and are delicious. The interior is classic British style. As an American, I had a blast. The only draw back is the early closing time of 11:30 p.m.

Came here for after work drinks and stayed for something to eat. Standard fare of food and drink. Nice place with young professionals and locals. Not your classic English pub, but a very pleasant and convivial place.

Very disappointed with the service, i came to watch a football game at 8pm and tried to order some food multiple times but was told the kitchen was closed because it was too busy even though the pub wasn’t full at all. I wasn’t able to get anything to eat during the entire game and ended up having some food delivered at the pub 5min before the end of the game (9:50pm), but was told to put it away by another waiter. When i explained the situation, he basically implied that i was lying because the kitchen only had closed 20min ago. Really poor service.

The food is excellent, not a tourist trap and not that expensive. Very good, I recommend!

Over the bar service charge, asked for it to be removed, was told that he needed a manager to do it and they were busy so I had to like it or lump it. Service charge for a miserable long haired bartender to pour me a guinness with a 2 and a half inch head.

I had there SW19 guest ale. But looked flat and tasted like it was watered down and no head on it. I took it back to the barman and he said that's what it was supposed to taste like. No replacement or refund offered. I chucked that away and ordered a Doom Bar again this tasted watered down and no head on beer appearing to be a bit flat. I didn't go back to complain but thought I was not going to waste another £6 and drunk it. My third pint was a Neckoil which was perfectly fine. Overall disappointed with the guest ales especially as I visited a month earlier and the ales were great. I won't be going back in a hurry.

Had a spontaneous lunch here. Wasn't full around lunchtime during the week. The pie was great, but the fish and chips were amazing!

Basic pub food, not a lover of frozen fish hence the 3 but everything else was fine.

A friendly neighborhood place, comfortable tables inside and outside, no blasting TVs. We came here on a Sunday afternoon because it was the nearest food option near Parliament. Sunday roast beef, beer, and toffee pudding were all good. Talented live singer/guitarist also. Makes you wonder why it's so hard to do the same in the U.S.!

Nice place to have a tasty lunch. Even ours Kids enjoy the plates and the place. We're in Westminster, a very busy place. The Barley Mow is worth the visit.

Staffed by kids and with service to match. We arrived as a family post half marathon to a reserved table and placed 2 x food orders. The first arrived within 30 mins the second never arrived. Payment was taken at the time of order for both. After 90 mins of repeated chasing we requested a refund. AVOID THIS PLACE !

We used the upstairs room for an afternoon gathering to remember a friend. The beer was well kept and the buffet provided was varied enough for all tastes.

We were a group of 6 that were looking for a quick dinner. In this establishment like many others in the area you go up to the bar and order your drinks and food. They have a full bar but when I asked for a gin drink without tonic, they claimed to not have any. We ordered several food items, it did not seem freshly made but possibly frozen and reheated, everything was bland and without flavor.

Typical pub. The food and beer are very good, the benches comfortable. I recommend.

Staying for 2 days in London with family, 5 of us came to this pub with typical dishes and decor. I recommend!

Unfortunately I didn't feel well. The place was too noisy, I had to change tables. Little choice of food. I asked for fries and they told me they didn't have them... Instead I saw them accompanied by a hamburger. The staff was friendly but I won't go back for sure.

Average quality burger, mid-day, quiet and nice enough.

The Sunday Roast sounded tempting but was a disappointment. 2 slices of well cooked beef were presented atop a mound of chard. Concealed at the bottom ofvtge chard were 3 warm potato pieces which tasted old and possibly "AuntbBessies"! A single strip of a carrot lay to one side and a scattering of shitake mushrooms adorned the top. A Yorkshire pudding languished to one side. The entire serving sat in a moat of tepid gravy. Not really worth the £18 imho. I wondered if the menu boast of "All the trimmings" only covered the mushrooms. There certainly was nothing else. I felt disappointed.

We were in the private room upstairs for my sister in laws retirement do.... Me and about 80 Old Bill!! ( Very uncomfortable ) The young lady behind the bar was absolutely amazing! Didn't catch her name but from Armenia, about 4ft 9ins. 100% fantastic bar person!!

Gluten poisoning. We ordered the leek pie meal which said it was gluten free - we checked twice that it really was gluten free - but my mother, who's a coeliac, had an allergic reaction to it and was sick all evening.

Lovely big pub in the heart of Victoria. Great selection of beers, lagers, wines and Gins. Staff are friendly. Prices are high but comparative to the area.

Nice pub with good range of ales. Not too busy when visited over the Christmas break but probably more lively during the week and weekends. Staff friendly and helpful.

Visiting London we happened across this bar, which was the perfect place for a lunch stop. Not too busy, was a great spot to bring the kids. Very accommodating and friendly guys behind the bar, definitely worth stopping in past if you’re in the area.

A lively pub full of mostly young folks and locals. I was on my own and went alone for dinner (supper? The evening meal.) At 7:30pm on a Tuesday, I was lucky to find a seat, as it was quite busy, but everyone was just drinking and chatting rather than eating. It was festive and lovely but even by the time I'd finished my meal, I think I was the only person present consuming non-liquid calories. It was a little loud and lively, but I imagine it can be cozy when it's not so busy. The bartender was nice and helped me spot a chair as it was opening. I ordered the vegetarian (leek, courgette) pie and mash which comes with a lovely green sauce and cabbage. It was good, though the pie filling was very wet and squishy, which caused a bit of a soggy bottom (gratefully, Paul and Prue were not present to judge.) It was flavorful, though, and I enjoyed it.

A nice comfortable pub, but unfortunately, poor customer service. We were a group of six, and popped in here for a few beers. We ordered a round - a couple of Doom Bars, London Pride, a couple of lagers. When ordering the next round, we were told that both Doom Bar and London Pride were off. We asked if they were going to change the barrels. The response was "maybe later"! They couldn't be bothered. Appalling customer service. We decided to leave. If they are happy to watch six customers walk out to find somewhere else they obviously have too many customers.

This ya good place for casual dining. Good atmosphere and good location, I am not a big fan of the beers they are flat that's just how they are.

Beware the hidden "optional service charge", the food was dry and very expensive for frozen meal.

I came here after playing a concert at St. John's, Smith Square, with a group of professional friends and was treated with something verging on contempt by the supervisor in charge, after ordering a drink after 10.30 on a Saturday - despite the website saying the pub was open til 12, and the group having bought two rounds already. She was so rude that I made a comment about it to her, something that I wouldn't normally do. Really disappointing.

A nice pub! I was on a day visit from Yorkshire on one of the hottest days of the year. After a day in a badly ventilated room, my visit to the Barley Mow started with an incredible blast of cool air when I walked in, followed by smiling staff and a nice bottle of ginger beer with ice. Just what I needed before braving the stifling underground!! A nice space, friendly, welcoming and clean. Would recommend for sure.

We, a party of 5, walked in at 10pm, well within opening hours, and were told the pub was closed because of "lack of customers". There were people still sitting in it. Why on earth would a pub refuse custom from 5 patrons while at the same time closing up for the evening complaining of a lack of patrons?! Terrible service.

Good staff given how crazy it can get sometimes! The chips are delicious and you never have to wait longer than 15 minutes! Lots of space to stand outside, cosy inside. The ales are great too! They even do a gluten-free beer
