The Barley Mow in The Vale of Glamorgan

Disappointing! We had Sunday lunch here. Had prebooked via facebook messenger, which they had confirmed, but they still weren't expecting us when we arrived. Sat us at a little table on a platform. Very old tired, grubby furniture. Stained and torn chairs. Glasses weren't clean. Service overall, was just ok. Very young girls serving who did their best. Food took quite a while to come out despite it not being that busy when we ordered, the veg and gravy arriving much earlier than the rest of the dinner. Food was extremely basic and rather bland. No dessert menu, the waitress verbally gave us 2 choices! Never experienced that before. Overpriced for what it was. The place needs an overhaul, a good clean and refurbishment, along with tastier food. Disappointing. We won't return.

We had pre booked but still no sign of food after an hour. It was cold and the room looked unused and unloved so all five of us walked out. A restaurant with meals prebooked and offering roasts must surely have everything ready for the time of the first booking. This was a wonderful pub when I knew it as a teenager and on from the 60s through the 80s. Now rubbish.

We always eat there and top notch food but alas last week the chef left the owner in the lurch and he tried his best to do the catering but it’s impossible on your own. So a little breathing space is needed till new chef is hired.

This used to be the one of the most welcoming country pubs in the area. Many evenings spent with family and friends. Food was always amazing as was the atmosphere. There was only 4 of us in restaurant, 2.5 hours later and 3 out of 4 steaks inedible 😡disgusting. Will never go back.. such a shame . The waitress was fantastic. Felt so sorry for her being the go between… chef never showed face 😡. It was also freezing.. talk about saving fuel costs .. uncomfortable and disappointing .

Had a fish and chips,it was amazing. Nice crowd in for the quiz. The Guiness is the best around. Thanks

What an amazing night. I have been around the World for NYE but I have to say that this one was amongst the best. Thanks to Colin’s and his team.
