Recently visited for our first Sunday of the month breakfast tradition and thought the food was good! My boyfriend said his food was the best breakfast he’d ever had. I had the chorizo and potato dish with halloumi and it was great but would of preferred it if the chorizo was cooked slightly smaller (personal preference) as it made it quite tough being so large. Knocked off one star as my daughter is dairy free, and although they offer a vegan breakfast they don’t have dairy free butter or margarine for their toast which meant my daughter had to have dry toast.

I came here on a recommendation with a friend. Loved it so much I have returned on multiple visits. The sourdough, avocado and halloumi is delicious and is my go to. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend

Breakfast time down Newland Ave. Ordered poached eggs on sourdough bread with salmon. It was a disaster 😪 our eggs where overcooked. The "main" been I almost choked on a fish so I did not finish the meal. When I paid £30 for this poor service I raided my concerns about poorly prepared food and fish bone issue. I was advised "they would speak to supplier" Not what I expect in raising my concerns. I will not visiting Barista again and feel let down😶‍🌫️😮‍💨

I enjoy the food, if a bit overpriced. Nicely cooked and well presented but there is no way I could justify paying £3 for what I would describe a sip of coffee. And in all honesty it did not even taste amazing, what you would expect in those circumstances. This always puts me off from places. I do understand it is a common practice to top up income by overpricing drinks but 300 or more % on can drinks- really…

We went to this cafe on Wednesday 6th September where 2 ladies were working. We went here as a group of 4 adults and 2 babies (2 pushchairs). As soon as we walked inside the cafe, we given a not so happy look due to the pushchairs wasting space. The cafe was busy and the garden area was closed as the staff said they were short staffed that day. We were basically given the impression that they would not accommodate us as they did not have enough space to sit us down. There was no options given of them considering opening the garden area or moving seats around so we could be seated. We were given the option to either leave or wait (no guarantee that something would become available). I was appalled at how inconsiderate the staff could be. Please do not waste your time coming to this cafe. The staff would rather have less customers so they don’t have a busy day rather then being accommodating and bringing in more people.

Excellent food and coffee friendly service and comforting vibe perfect for couples or to just sit down and do some work :)

In the past two weeks we have been to barista 3 times!! We have been looking for a new breakfast place since one we used to go to closed! And we found it! Friendly service and the food comes prompt! Highly recommend the Mexican eggs my fave!! The avocado on toast is really good to the pink pickled onions and coriander dressing really help make it that big more special then the normal Avo on sourdough.

Disappointed with the Full Breakfast. Tomatoes were cold, bacon not cooked well and only warm. Sourdough bread rock hard @ £10.50p not acceptable Service was poor, had to ask to place Order (staff too busy chatting), miserable Staff, couldn't be bothered attitude. Will not return ever

Met here for the first time with friends . Its a nice looking venue and the staff were pleasant. However I don't belive I have ever been served such a small flat white for the cost at what I can only say was a luke warm temperature. No sugar etc on table , again I thought was strange. I went for the club sandwich , at over £9 I expected more than 2 pieces of bloomer bread with very average filling . It wasn't cut in half , no garnish it was just truly underwhelming for the high cost. My friend had a bagel , I have never seen such a huge amount of mustard mayo on something, it left in almost inedible. Personally I wouldn't suggest it for somewhere to return. I just feel there are far nicer places for the cost.

Excellent food, drink and atmosphere. We had a mixture of breakfast dishes and they were all fantastic. Staff lovely. Would highly recommend!

What a fabulous gem it is, friendly attentive staff. Full breakfast, so much more than your normal English breakfast, very tasty and presented in a way which took it to a completely different level. My wife toasted sourdough bread with goats cheese and figs, equally delicious We will return soon, thank you

We visited today for breakfast and a coffee, was bust which is great to see been an independent busy. Was warmly greeted and given menu, we found a table and wasn't waiting long before our order was taken, coffees quickly followed and was really nice. We really wasn't waiting long before our meals arrive and was so nice and packed with flavour. All I can say is we will definitely be returning

Met a friend here for breakfast. The place was full and we were sat on an awkward table right at the door where people stand around waiting for a table. Shame you can't pre-book. Food was ordered and arrived quickly, but given the prices, I found the portion sizes to be quite small. The coffee was good though and I'd give it another go, maybe at a quieter time.

Visited here yesterday for a Mother’s Day breakfast / brunch. We really enjoyed it. Good food and service. We would recommend and would visit again

It's a fairly short one. It's a nice place with a nice atmosphere and very polite service from the antipodean lady. My issue was with the size of the coffee....one size, and for that money, way too small. Two good gulps and it was gone. We ordered poached eggs on sourdough. Two nicely poached eggs on one small piece of sourdough.......really? one piece ?? How penny pinching is that? It's not good enough....to the owner, you need to be a little more generous, I have never been anywhere that give one slice of bread with two eggs. Really nice food but it was a childs portion. One size coffee.......c'mon make it worth our while. It's not being greedy but I want value for money.

I absolutely adore this cafe! It’s lovely to study in, or meet friends, and ESPECIALLY for breakfast. I’ve been a barista for 4 years and this is hands down one of the best coffees I’ve ever had. The food is incredible, such good quality, the French toast and Korean breakfast is out of this world. The baristas/waitresses are so lovely too, so friendly and attentive- can’t recommend it more :)

Went here for lunch with a group of friends. The food is amazing. I had Turkish eggs which I've actually never seen on a menu anywhere before but have made at home, they were yummy! The staff are very friendly and the service was quick and efficient. The place itself is very COVID safe-table set apart and screens between. We will definitely be going back.

Popped in for breakfast today, I have been meaning to visit this place for a while. Very warm welcome by a gent a the front of house, all very Covid friendly and seem to be on the ball. Was busy but service was good. I had the breakfast and friend had the vegan breakfast, both very nice. Menu is a good selection of brunch and lunch dishes. All in all I thought it was a great little spot, I will be back

The brunch here is so yummy! I love an Egg's Benedict and this one with Avacado and bacon was delicious! One of the nicest I have ever had. I love the seating area outside, it's very cute! They were well organised with Covid-19 restrictions too. Also a very nice Americano coffee.

Food is absolutely fab here and service with a smile. Pricing is mid range but we visited during the Eat Out to Help Out which was excellent value. Will definitely return

This is a crackling little cafe on Newland Avenue. I popped in as I was passing and while it was busy the service was good the place is well presented. I had the poached eggs on sourdough toast which was reasonably priced and tasty. Recommended

In the past year we have nearly had everything on the menu and every time we've thoroughly enjoyed our brunch. Their coffee is also really good, especially their oat milk latte's. This place has great service and a really good vibe. Been twice over the last two weeks with the eatouttohelpout scheme and on both occasions, everything was perfect and we felt very safe. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!!

A lovely catch up with our university daughter today. Also a dog friendly cafe so we didn’t have to leave him at home. Fabulous tasty food and lovely coffee. A lovely atmosphere, great background music and attentive service as and when required.

This was our second visit, first time around was not brilliant but they were busy so decided to try again... Coffee was mediocre, possibly the worst bacon sandwich I have ever been presented with, quite expensive too!

The big breakfast not so big 8.50 for a small breakfast calling it a big breakfast. Sausage was hard, the streaky bacon taste odd, toast was pretty good and coffee wasnt bad. Probably wouldn't go back. not awful not amazing I thinknits more about the look then the actual food.

Had my second visit to the barista last evening. This time for a family celebration for my daughter in laws graduation. We were quite a large party, more than 10 of us, but had a lovely evening. The food was awesome and the staff efficient and friendly without being intrusive. I had the fig and goats cheese bruscetta as a starter and chicken skewers as main. Food was fresh and tasted delicious. My grandson was with us, and he doesn't like spicy food, but nothing was too much trouble and the chef cooked his chicken plain. We also had a vegetarian in our party, and also 2 people with wheat and dairy intolerances. All these things were dealt with without any fuss at all. I shall definitely be visiting often for lunch or even just a coffee, which is amazing. My new favourite place ! Thank you so much for a pleasant evening.

Barrista is now open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with a really interesting and different menu. There are excellent vegetarian and vegan options, delicious starters and mains. The restaurant is quite small so there is an intimate atmosphere, really helpful and friendly staff and great cooking! We loved it!

I come in here every Friday and have probably eaten over 30 meals in here now. Full English breakfast is great but the Mexican Eggs are honesty one of the best things I’ve ever had in my mouth. Perfectly cooked poached eggs every single time,Amazing coffee and service. The place is always busy and deserves to do well. Great to see a recent expansion including alcoholic beverages and evening courses too. Keep up the great work.

Loveky fresh tasting breakfast and good coffee . We had the avocado and bacon dish which was well cooked and presented . Nice atmosphere and friendly cheerful staff . Clean facilities.

Staff didn't seem to care. Ordered a coffee, paidm was instructed to sit down and they would 'bring it over'. Ten minutes later and constant glances at the server and no drink was produced. There were only five people in the cafe and he wasn't serving anyone else so he had clearly simply forgotten.He disappeared in the back and I asked the lady who had taken his place. Eventually my flat white was brought over, and it was pretty mediocre.

Seems like the whole breakfast was microwaved and the plate was freezing cold. The one sausage I paid £8.50 for on a ‘Big Breakfast’ was that hard and cold it flew on the floor whilst I was trying to cut through it. Coffee went cold quickly and was luke warm when brought over. Not a good first time experience at all - wish it had been better

Coffee was cold, had the big breakfast sausage was cold rest of it was warm the only part which was hot where the beans very disappointed!

Visited for a coffee and cake previously and enjoyed it (great coffee, nice ambience and comfortable) so went back for lunch. However was disappointed.

Nice food but really didn't appreciate the mucky looks and eye rolls I received from the three girls behind the counter for bringing my crying baby (who was hungry) into the restaurant, and then further mucky looks for breastfeeding...made us feel very uncomfortable!

Sat here now on our first visit. The food is amazing. About as far from a greasy spoon as you can get. Could have tried everything on the menu.

This cafe is intimate and is beautifully presented. It is very clean and the coffee was excellent. The avocado toast was the best I've ever had, absolutely delicious, and the prices are reasonable. The staff were friendly and I will definitely visit again.

Looking for a dog friendly cafe,found Barista, didn`t need to look any further! Great food, I had the shakshuka which was absolutely lovely. The staff loved our dog and brought him a bowl of water. Will definitely visit again, with or without the dog!

Went in to hear the managers sacking a young female member of staff in front of all customers at a table in the cafe. We could hear everything they were telling her about her work and then they proceeded to argue with her friend in front of the customers while the staff member cried. Second time we’ve seen the management argue with staff in public. Staff are always amazing but managers are appallingly behaved. Since this happened, I commented about this on their Instagram page in which they stated they were ‘recruiting’ just an hour after the young girl was sacked; they’ve now blocked me on Instagram and deleted my comments. Absolutely shocking and immature. Don’t think this won’t go unnoticed.

I have visited her many times. When it opened I thought it was great, fantastic, strong coffee and fresh ingredients with a creative twist. Unfortunately my last couple of visits haven't been as good and the food seems to be inconsistent. I had eggs beni at the weekend, asked for the sauce on the side, it came on top, but I tried it and enjoyed it, so that was fine because everything else was good. I visited yesterday, ordered the same thing; this time the sauce came on the side as I asked, but I just felt generally underwhelmed with the food. The bread seemed stale, the bacon wasn't crisp, it was very fatty, the avocado tasted on the turn and the sauce on the side was thick and seemed bought in, whereas the one I had at the weekend was definitely homemade. It wasn't bad enough to send back, just not the usual high standard of the Barista. I do really like it here though so I hope that it improves.

Love the food and coffee here, however don’t feel it is very family friendly. I Visited with my 3 month old and my mum friend and her little girl. When I went to change my little girl there were no baby changing facilities so I had to do this on the floor of the toilet.

Popped in for a coffee and lunch, we were not disappoint by either. The coffee on offer here is from @TheBlendingRoom and is very nice, the food on offer is very tasty.

Visited for first time ( but not last ) today and really enjoyed it. Ordered an Americano which was really nice. A beautiful cup of coffee. I also got some toast which was homemade sourdough bread and lovely. Good prices too, nice relaxed atmosphere and very friendly and smiley staff. Big fan.

Very nice place . Service was excellent. Fast and efficient from ordering to the food and coffee arriving. There is where the 3 star rating and not 5 is awarded. Coffee luke warm at best and the full English breakfast whilst being very tasty was also at best luke warm.

Great coffee, friendly staff, with lots of coffee shops in this area we are glad we tried this one, the menu is different from the norm, exciting new flavours to try, soda bread toast is delicious,crispy crunchy yumminess!!!! One tip, they serve the coffee drinkable temperature, if you like it hot then ask when you order, they will be happy to do so.

Being a local all my life around the Newland Ave area of Hull, I find the cafe culture one of the most exciting things to happen here. The Barista hasnt been open that long but has definitely become one of my faves partly down to the fact that it’s roomy enough to take in my grandson and buggy without being in the way of anyone. We often go in for breakfast and The Full English is a must! There’s also lovely fresh coffee here too and the service is very friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable and it opens early in a morning which a lot of the other cafes down here don’t. Relaxed and clean and good toilet facilities!

1st visit and very impressed. Lovely brunch. Breakfast bun was delicious. Grilled cheese sandwich was thick and tasty. Coffee was tasty and my tea was refreshing. Cool background music and great place to hang out. Staff friendly and decor was cool. Will be back

We visited Barista on the first day of opening, and numerous times after, it has proved to be Fabulous, each and every time.

Great coffee. Food is well presented and delicious. Probably the best veggie/vegan breakfast I’ve had in Hull! Great variety and the sausages and pea fritters are lovely. Visited with a friend from out of town who was also impressed with the food and coffee however big down side for us was that they do not have any highchairs! We have 2 under 1s who love their food as we do so experience was dampened due to having to eat with our babes on our knees (I ended up wearing a lot of my breakfast). Sadly the lack of high chairs as a mum makes you feel pretty unwelcome...

Visited today for the first time on a Saturday so it was busy but got a table easily enough.Plenty of choice on the breakfast menu and the service was very good- quick polite and friendly.The food was ok, nothing wrong with it, it just a bit bland and slightly cold, even the drinks.My daughter did say coffee was supposed to be served like that, but if I had been at home, I would have put the food In the microwave for a few minutes? Will try again though.

We visited The Barista recently when helping our niece get settled into a new house before starting university. The Barista only opened three months ago so everything is shiny and new. We only had coffee, muffins and a chocolate brownie but really enjoyed our visit. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends and family and I'm looking forward to visiting again early next month.

Let me get the good out of the way. Presentation of the food and drink is good but that is pretty much where it ends. Now for the errors. Music too loud , this is a coffee shop so you should be able to hear each other. Drinks should arrive before food. Drinks should arrive together especially if there are only 2 of them . If you are going to put toast on the menu then one slice is not enough. Coffee cups are small considering the price. Putting 1 seat tables in the middle of the shop is hardly going to attract people. Glass and wood reflects sounds without soft finishing to absorb it. This is probably my first and last visit and I suspect I am not alone in that.

A great friendly cafe. First but certainly not last visit. The breakfast was so tasty and fresh. The staff friendly and polite. Can't wait to return with more family and friends. Can recommend the breakfast bun. Small selection of loose leaf teas could do with being expanded.

Came in for breakfast whilst car in garage. I was treated really well with fab customer service. It's a great place to chill. Food was lovely had a full English and couldn't fault it.

Happily found them to be as fastidious about coffee as their name suggests.
