Minerva in Kingston upon Hull, City of

One of the best places I've visited in Hull. Minerva was recommended to me by some work colleagues so came for dinner one evening. It was quite busy when we arrived, but we manged to get a table for 2 straight away. I ordered a fish pie and my friend got the fish and chips. The portions were decent sized and the food was really good. They had a good selection of beers on the bar. The pub inside is a proper traditional old pub and really nice inside. Can't wait to go back!

Good pub food in surroundings full of character. This pub has a great deal of charm, with little rooms hidden away and various nooks and crannies. The staff were friendly & helpful. It's probably best to book for an evening meal at the weekend, as it seemed quite busy.

Food and Drink were outstanding but what makes this place is the feel of it. The staff are friendly happy and welcoming as well as experienced. 8 in the party, were shown to a great table on time, ordered starters and mains, which all come out in great time and the food was stunning. I had Harissa skewers, side salad, and had a half chips/rice option. They were perfectly cooked and delicious. Other orders in the party ranged from fish, curry mixed grill and bangers and starters of prawn cocktail or garlic and everything was delicious! Although situated on the marina in the busy part of town, it had a local homely feel and the staff ( again I say this) were so helpful! Great prices too - wont hurt your wallet no matter which food or drink option you go with. Cleanliness in the bar, restaurant and bathrooms was also impeccable I will highly recommend this place to anyone! I will be back there again really soon.

Excellent food and service as always.fantastically atmospheric and interesting interior full of nooks and cranies take the time to look around and soak in the ambiance of a good old traditional pub which is also keeping up with the times a difficult path to tread but the minerva has got it just right.i could say i wish more pubs were like this but really its better to find a hidden diamond among the rough

Great waterfront bar & restaurant. Wide variety of beers wines and spirits. Great choice of home cooked food on the menu.

Visiting the deep popped in for a Sunday lunch The positives nice staff, value for money The pub is very traditional in decor and a little dated, toilets didn’t smell great The food was average, mash, gravy and Yorkshire puddings were delicious unfortunately the veg wasn’t great and the meat was average A freshen up of furniture/decor and a tweak to the meat/veg and it would be 5

We had previously been to Hull numerous times and walked past the Minerva as it didn't look that inviting for something to eat. This time as a result of recommendation we called in at tea time on a Friday, there were lots of people sat outside drinking and it was busy inside where numerous people were eating. The Minerva is a large building but inside it is divided into many smaller rooms giving it a homely touch, the decor being traditional, and the welcome from the bar-staff was convivial. They quickly found a table for us and service at the bar was second to none. Our food arrived in good time. My wife had the fish pie and I had the legendary fish and chips. The portions were generous and the food excellent. An error with the fish pie was quickly and very professionally dealt with by Debbie and when we left we thought what an exceptional experience we had had. So much so we called in again on Saturday tea time where we had a tuna salad and a prawn salad as we were too full for a cooked meal. Again the food was excellent and the portions substantial all at a price that was reasonable for our all round experience(s) I wouldn't recommend going to the same place two nights running, but this was the exception. My fish chips and mushy peas with tartare sauce was excellent, though not cheap. My partner was very disappointed with the fish pie which didn’t look great, was not much of a portion and needed more veg. Not cheap either

Sunday afternoon visit for an 80th birthday party! We were seated in the large room at the back, which was fine. Food and service good but more gravy needed for the roast dinners, roast potatoes very hard, more gravy was brought when we requested it. Yorkshire puddings looked amazing 👏 would recommend 👌

Get the fish and chips in a bucket it's a corker

Worst korma curry I’ve ever had, dry chicken and bitty sauce, just like out of a packet, would have complained but no staff enquired how food was and had to rush off, rest of food was good

Stayed two days in Hull and came here for dinner the first night - our food was so good we had to come back a second night! Big fish and chips, great pies. Beautiful old pub.

Great place for a drink with a great view.

It's becoming a rundown shopping centre with loads of closed shops. Only thing keeps it going is the cinema.

Small pub full of history nice to sit outside on a summers day. wasn't the pint and is expensive but I guess your paying more for the location

After arriving at Hull University, I went out for the first time with a friend to Minerva and discovered that the food and atmosphere were both nice and comfortable. This led me to visit the place frequently to enjoy a cool beer and my favorite dish, fish and chips. I even celebrated my birthday there with 12 friends, as it had become my favorite spot. However, when I later tried to book a table for two, I was told that no tables were available at that time. Then, a native English friend of mine called on my behalf, saying she was visiting the UK and wanted to book a table for two at the same time I had tried to reserve. She was able to book the table for the exact time I had requested. I don't know what to say, but I no longer want to have fish and chips at Minerva.

Very over rated in my opinion. I heard the food is good, but not eaten there for a long while.

Delightful, congenial and comfortable ambience, very cosy in places. Claims to have the smallest lounge room in the country (quite possibly when you see it) Seemingly well visited by locals and repeat customers. Prompt service by polite and efficient staff. Reasonable choice of (very, I have to say,) tasty food. OK selection of beers .. although a sprinkling of serious real ales would not go amiss. Would I patronise again ? .. Yes !

Pub is one of the nicest in Hull with great decor, ambience, atmosphere and staff. Problem is they have a small kitchen and are not set up for GF so a small selection of offerings. I had baked fish and new potatoes with peas and tartare sauce. It was well cooked but overall the dish was a little dry and more sauce would have helped. I was envious of friends battered fish and chips, which I was told were as good as they looked. Secondly despite marketing themselves as a real ale pub I was disappointed they had no GF beer, only bottled GF lager.

Unfortunately we had booked and ended up sat in an awkward position on the bench inside the pub. You could not sit opposite due to location. Further to this , on the day it was really hot and we where in the direct sunlight from a big window behind us which was incredibly uncomfortable. Everything else was great but definitely on this occasion the seating did spoil the visit.

One of my favourite places to eat in Hull. Always been impressed with the food here and the service has always been friendly.

Popped in here today, was very busy, but staff were happy,helpful and courteous, meal was nice, couldn't eat it all but was nice.

An ok building...not overly clean. Staff not very friendly. Food was cold across all 5 plates served. Staff uninterested. Apparently due to its location....they get away with overcharging for food and drinks yet survive bcos it's all passing trade in the marina area. Clearly don't care about customers. Avoid.

Recommended by my daughter who went there and had great food on a trip to the Deep. We wanted to go down to the water so were looking for the Minerva. It's in a lovely setting facing the Humber. We all enjoyed the meal very much. The staff were very helpful and efficient.

Our first visit based on reviews. What a great place. Excellent food and service. It might look quite small in the bar area but there are a number of tables on different levels. Weather permitting lots of seating outside overlooking the estuary. Our only issue is do we return tomorrow or try somewhere new. Absolutely worth a visit but please book in advance.

It was lovely food and nice to sit outside with our dogs in the nice weather. One thing that didn't impress us was charging £3.50 for a sausage for the dogs!! Honestly happy to pay but that was really steep for one sausage!! We bought one and they shared it at that price!.. When we checked the menu later we saw it was only £6.45 for a sausage butty!!🤨

stopped off for lunch with 4 family members it was lovely mam in wheelchair so was shown through the disabled entrance with a disabled toilet.Food was sooooo good i had christines home made pie with chips and peas and lashings of gravy brother had the same.Mam and auntie shared a fish baskets had fishcake fish chips mushy peas and homemade tarter sauce.sister had fish chips and mushy peas everyone enjoyed their food and was washed down with lager vodka coke and a hot water and lemon not all mine i might ad.price was very good just over £60.service was quick and all done with a smile.place got busy as we were leaving and i know why.looking forward to our next visit.

I Celabrated my 70th birthday with 20 guests first class service, the food came piping hot and lots of it, the Staff are very efficant and friendly I will definitely be going there again highly recommended...

We went in for lunch I had fish and chips my wife had lasagne and we had a beer and a soft drink and it was good. Food was first class the beer was good the prices was reasonable

Great Beer, Great Food, Great Staff. Always worth the visit, and a firm family favourite. One of the best Sunday Dinners in the city too. Beautiful pub and amazing quality food staff where especially friendly (especially Lucy special props to her for being friendly and lovely to chat to) was very happy to see an LGBTQ+ IPA here and felt comfortable and happy in this pub as a queer person.

Absolutely fabulous. The fish batter was crispy, the white flakes of fish were delicious. Chips! Another level, cooked to perfection. The mushy peas tasty, and the tartare sauce outstanding! Helpful staff, great service, deserved the tip. Would recommend it for a great family meal anytime. We will be back, thank you.

This is a nice place with good food but it is a conveyor belt. The place and the decor is lovely but once you have finished your meal there are no unreserved tables for you to go to. Heaven forbid you should enjoy your time, get comfortable and want to stay.

Had a lovely lunch with friends, it was my husband’s 70th birthday . I took a little cake in and the staff brought it to us and sang Happy birthday . The staff were very friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.

Called in on Sunday when checking through Trip advisor for best places to have Sunday Roast. Didn't have a reservation but was informed we could sit at the small tables near the bar, which was fine. I had the Beef & the wife had Chicken dinners, both fantastic & prices was very fair for what we received. Good atmosphere & nice pub.

Went for Sunday lunch with our parents and two toddlers , it was amazing , friendly staff , comfortable and great food It’s not often our 2 and 4 year olds sit there and say “ hmm it’s yummy” when eating Well worth the visit we will definitely go back next time we’re in Hull

Out on a walk and stopped off for lunch, we hadn't booked but we were quickly seated at a table, really friendly staff. The food was spot on we ordered goats cheese salad and fish and chips both were excellent, the atmosphere was chilled and relaxing. We really enjoyed the Minerva and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Been here twice this past week, and my only complaint is how cold it was in the room at the side for a birthday meal and then in their smallest room on mother's day. Would have full marks otherwise
