I stay here quite often as I work away from home. The chap who checked me in on Monday also worked the early breakfast shift and was an absolute star. He really made me feel like the hotel was my home and it made all the difference. Congratulations on a great job which was really really well done.

Dinner was awful.....small portion and the meat was 90% soft fat and inedible. The whole meal lacked flavour, presentation and quality. The meal.was very overpriced. Ben was very apologetic and concerned that our experience didn't put us off returning. He is an asset to the resturant and wish him well. The manager without a fuss offered to take the costs of the meals off the bill. In our opinion the chef should not have permitted that food to leave the kitchen. Also a teaspoon was brought out with each of the deserts........a desert spoon and fork should have been set on the table.

A lovely spot to meet with family on holiday in the area. Great, helpful staff. Very relaxed atmosphere and loads of character in the building. The home Meade cakes references on the website were disappointing as there was only a Leo in sponge sitting on show on the bar and nothing was offered with our coffees but they were good coffees! We didn’t stay for lunch but it filled up as we were leaving with lots of the university graduates coming with families to celebrate so obviously a popular spot. Beautifully done up with lots of lovely smaller dining areas and a very quirky ladies loo!

The cutlery & glasses were dirty and tables sticky. Menu was poorly written, to the point where the waitress didn't know which were the starters, and what the vegan options were (she had to 'ask the chef' who was 'very busy', although there was only 2 tables being served). Vegan options are very poor; veggie burger £16 or soup. This was supposed to be a meal treat for a birthday! They managed a cup of tea with oat milk (no soya available!) . Got the impression we were too much trouble. I did ask before I booked the table if there were vegan options, I should have asked if the chef is able to cook vegan meals! We left without food.

Restaurant Review: Nice food, awful service. Ordered beef dish which was tasty but got what I felt was a child size portion. Definitely overpriced given portion size. Service I would consider poor with waiters leaning across you to serve others at the table when there was plenty of space to walk around. Soft drinks overfilled, making it difficult to even pick it up without spilling some. Our waiter obviously didn't know about different types of coffee, and 2 teas and 2 coffees took over 20 minutes to arrive. Latte tasted like it came from a machine (I could go to mcdonalds for that!) rather than prepared by a barista. They did remove cost of drinks from bill due to delay. The seating area lacks charm for an old property. Somewhat disappointed having spent nearly £40 per person.

I stayed overnight at this gorgeous old building, which is set in a great location. My room was excellent, and attention to detail throughout the building was good to see. The staff were polite and professional. Until it came to breakfast the next morning..... The coffee was OK, although they were unable to provide sweeteners (who in his day and age doesn't have sweeteners available??). In addition to that, my order of scrambled egg and bacon took half an hour to arrive at the table, despite the fact that there were never more than four other people in the dining room at the same time as me, and without either an explanation for the delay or an apology. The eggs themselves were disgusting - quite unlike any scrambled eggs I've experienced elsewhere and pretty inedible. So.... whilst I commend the front of house staff for their professionalism, the catering staff would seem to be in desperate need of training. Had the whole breakfast experience not been so godawful, I would have scored the Bank House as excellent. As it is, it's very good but could do better.

Visited recently with friends. Compared to our last visit, a year ago we felt it had gone down hill. Limited menu choose. I’d been looking forward to the house cocktail but both times it was different and the second one had an odd flavour. Food was cooked well, though my plaice was swimming in butter, portions were smaller, veg was limited or non existent and they had sold out of burgers. generally over priced for what you got. Staff were friendly but not very attentive. The area we sat in had an unpleasant smell, generally disappointed for what should have been a nice treat.

Really great restaurant. Went here for lunch last week and were really impressed . The banter with the staff was excellent , food was totally superb and we went with some elderly relatives and also a little toddler and they really made everyone as comfortable as possible. Stunning location within this beautiful town and the interior nicely decorated.. very enjoyable and we will return. Some excellent Norfolk beers on offer.

Not recommended for an eating experience. Waiting staff were good and a nice location but we were not given even close to what had been listed on the menu for the meal we chose. The excuse from the kitchen for this was that one of the items wasn't vegan, but we never asked for (and are not) vegan. My local friend had previously had positive eating experiences here but is unlikely to choose it again.

A bit of a lacklustre the manager seemed distracted and harassed, despite few customers. We just popped in for coffee and cake at 3pm. We were not offered a choice of coffee, but it was served promptly and tasted good. The cake tasted better than it looked, which was underwhelming. The location is lovely, as is the historic building. Potentially lovely, it would benefit from a bit of a lift and enthusiasm.

So disappointed, what has happened? This used to be my favourite restaurant in Kings Lynn but after Saturdays nights dinner I don’t know if I will go again. Menu choices were super small compared to previous visits, hardly any choice. My husbands burger no longer had onion rings etc. No antipasti which I loved. Food very disappointing on a whole. I know it is being sold but why the sudden drop in quality? Apparently they have changed butchers to Bookers! Such a shame.

We had pre chosen our three course lunch as we were a post wedding group. The venue was a pleasant, warm and comfortable room overlooking the quay with decor very appropriate to the historicity of the building. The service was attentive and well timed. The food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the blueberry creme brûlée. It was very well balanced, not over creamy as some can be, and with just the right amount of brûlée topping, crisp and delicious. I also appreciated the biscotti that appeared to be home made.

Went here for Sunday lunch whilst on holiday in Hunstanton. Had a lovely meal although service could have been a bit better, being totally ignored by the dizzy waitress, we did actually enjoy our lunch, went back the following day and had another great lunch, this time service was much better. We will be back. Just like to add that I have had many a brilliant dessert on my frequent restaurant travels but the Pineapple one I had on Sunday (only 2 options, bit bad) was the WORST I have ever tasted and for £6.50 was disgraceful, not even fresh pineapple. Did mention to the supervisor and he was going it to mention to the chef.

A birthday celebration & thought this would be the place to celebrate but wasn’t the celebration that we thought we would get. The young staff couldn’t fault at all, he was excellent and constantly apologised for the wait & made the visitDidn’t know who was taking us to the table & thought originally it was another customer who approached us, sat at table starters were quick but then had to wait for nearly an hour for main course, think this was due to a larger party and second sittings on adjacent tables. Food average and not what we expected wouldn’t hurry back

Booked celebration afternoon tea for wedding anniversary. Was nice but Unfortunately wasn’t the best we have had. On arrival taken to table area to be then told our table wasn’t set up so we returned to bar area to wait. Within two minutes then told our table was ready. Sat next to what looked like an unsightly dusty machine with cobwebs in alcove, the rest of area was clean. Our waitress brought our Prosecco to the table, we were expecting one glass each, but the bottle was left with us in an ice bucket, initially thought that was a nice gesture as it was our anniversary ( I informed them at the time of booking). However was very short lived as this was removed quickly by another staff member as he ‘didn’t think we would want an unexpected £20 added to the bill. (True)The tea was nice, but the two scones one fruit and one cheese were small and slightly hard. Strange to have jam and cream on a cheese scone!! No small desert as we have had on other afternoon teas. We had a nice time, but not sure we would returnI believe our waitress was new to the job, but she was very ‘bubbly and friendly’

We dined in this elegant and stylish quayside restaurant twice during our stay in Kings Lynn as we were so impressed with it. On the first evening we chose the Sharing Seafood Platter for the main course and at only £20 it was a very tasty bargain and very well presented. The cheese board that we had for dessert was also very good with a good selection of local cheeses. On the second visit we went for the lobster and again this was excellent and very reasonably priced. The service was above average and the draft lager served nicely chilled. The only down side was that the restaurant has a fly problem but then so do a lot of other restaurants in this part of the world. We will certainly dine here again if we return to Kings Lynn and can thoroughly recommend the Bank House for a lovely evening out.

Went for a quick coffee in the morning, took 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order even though we were persistently going inside to ask for service at our table. Finally someone took our order, 20 minutes passed and we had enough, we were part of an event and had to leave, so we spoke to someone else inside and said we are sorry, the coffee has taken too long, we wont be having it, and we left.In the evening we decided to go back for a coffee, in good faith that we would give our business to this restaurant. On ordering (after having to search for staff to take our order), another member of staff came outside and spoke to us in a condescending manner who said that we had to pay for our coffees from the morning because we had walked off without paying. We had to basically argue with this member of staff who was being downright rude to us to tell them that we had told a member of staff we couldnt have the coffee because the service was slow. 20 minutes later the coffee turned up, and in the entire time we were there no member of staff came to our table. The cups were also filthy with stains of previous users tea, and the staff didnt even remove the previous peoples glasses from the table on taking our order. Disgusting service, rude staff. Also, on going inside to find a waiter / waitress, many of them were just sitting around or having a laugh, not bothering with waiting customers. Do not be suprised if you are ignored, have dirty crockery and are treated rudely by staff. Massive let down.

We went for a treat to celebrate my son's 21st. The restaurant has a very smart look, dining rooms are interlinked and each area is very smart. We have enjoyed this restaurant before. But this time the quality of the meals did not match up. The cocktail had a wilted sprig of mint, the lobster salad was basically half a small lobster, some mixed green leaves on the side and some potatoes, no culinary finesse seen. Burger was a burger with sauces in packets, the whole sea bass however was tasty. Of three desserts, two were uninspiring. A final disappointment was that the staff had not taken the initiative to treat my son with any little surprise to mark this meal as special, even though I mentioned his Birthday on arrival. Most places can stretch to a cupcake with a candle or so, it would have been lovely.

I saw someone with lobster although it was not on the menu so the second time I asked and was able to have it. Simple but tasty presentation. World recommend this restaurant, do pay for parking in the evening even if it does not seem clear you should. Second time we came my husband had asked for a couple of specific table options which were noted but we were offered the table he considered the worst in the house so pretty much ruined the evening (we were instantly moved elsewhere). We are new to the Bank House, however we have visited 3 times over the last few weeks. I thought it best to pass my review after a few visits. Every time I have visited the front of house have been on point and the manager himself exemplary. It’s nice to be greeted and then asked if you have a mask, sanitise and sign the relevant COVID paper work. The Bank House is a Georgian building and very typically grand with large sash windows and huge bay windows. With wooden floors and an open fire I can’t recommend anywhere else in Kings Lynn to spend a winters afternoon. Slightly over looking the river and the buildings adjoins what looks like a sluice gate. The menu at the moment is limited however I have been happy with the dishes that I have chosen, the price is high end for the town but luckily there is a Weather Spoons a few hundred meters down the road. The portions aren’t huge but that is in keeping with the menu and the style of the restaurant. The waiting staff are happy, (as far as I have tested them) to accommodate and changes to the menu, I asked to swap crackers for bread on the Ploughman’s, we ordered mains and staters together ect.So all in all if your looking to dine with amazing ambience, sterling front of house and great tasting food. Try the Bank House. If you have an issue or are dissatisfied then I implore you to ask for the manager as I have all confidence in him.Ben

Having a total fear about eating inside a restaurant in this pandemic, this restaurant has a quite large outside area for diners. As always when having visited this restaurant, one feels treated as valued customer, not a cash cow. At no time, has any preparation been presented prematurely, i.e. undercooked. Thoroughly recommended.

Nice friendly greeting and one of the waitresses was very nice, but that was the best part. Very limited menu. Steak arrived very quickly and was not very good, tasteless and tough, absolutely no juices at all. I was asked at the beginning if it was ok but I had only just started eating so didn't really know at that point. When I had finished it was obvious there was something wrong because of the inedible pieces left on the plate. I told the waitress and she said she would tell them in the kitchen and that was it. What really made me laugh was being served half a small field mushroom and half a small tomato. When the normal price for the steak is £25 and the Government is paying £10 surely they can afford a whole mushroom.I certainly will not be going back.

Very disappointing meals - fish definitely wasn’t large as ordered & definitely of very poor quality - Chips tasteless & possibly re-heated / Burger not very appetising either. All very embarrassing as my wife& I were treating a friend to a special birthday Lunch. Just dreadful. B Considering the Government Discounted Scheme during August the menu was very limited compared to other eateries we’ve visited in the area - Definitely not the standard we’ve experienced at the Bank House in the past. Management should address these adverse issues - Don’t fob your customers off with such dreadful crap meals - will not be returning or recommending!

Booked a table for 2 for my wife's birthday. We have been to the restaurant many times in the past, however this was not a pleasant experience. Taken to a table near the entrance, no atmosphere. The menu is very limited and not one we recognise from before. If you would like a burger, pasta, fish and chips then fine but not a great choice. I understand that Covid rules make things difficult for the restaurant but if they want to entice people out to dine, then a menu of more than pub food is needed. Staff did their best but management need to reassess what they want the restaurant to be particularly during the winter months.

My fiancee, our small dog and I were looking for a place to enjoy a late lunch in Kings Lynn and stumbled across the Bank House just yards from where we had parked our car on South Quay. We sat outside where the wall both blocked the view of the river, but also the strong breeze blowing off the river! The staff were friendly and attentive, the food tasty and the cost low due to the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme. The menu has been reduced due to the COVID pandemic, but I had a superb Ploughman's, while my fiancee enjoyed some delicious chips and chocolate ice cream! The dog was also welcome in the garden. Inside, the tables were safely distanced, the decor very smart and the toilet was spotlessly clean. Very good.

But we'll only charge you for the small one." No problem!

Extremely disappointed with the food. Ordered a pea risotto and it tasted like mushy peas with some rice in it. Also ordered medium steak and it was red with blood seeping out! Sadly when I commented about the steak the excuse I was given was that it might have been someone else’s order! I felt sorry for the front staff - they handled my complaint well when it came to the risotto - they did not charge me for it as I had only eaten couple of mouthfuls. It’s a shame as the location of the restaurant is fantastic - just by the the river but the food will let them down.

A table occupied of ladies and one other only of three people. No one else entered for the duration of our meal.Food served disappointing.I ordered sea bass with noodles, expecting a fresh light plate of food.Sea bass overcooked, noodles were like basic pasta, thick with a gloopy sauce. My husbands salad should have had saffron potatoes, no saffron. This restaurant has lost much of the charm it used to hold over the years.Menus have dishes also on the reverse, I did't even see the sandwiches etc on offer.Any place of class would have a separate page for each menu. This will be our last visit here.

I took my mum here for a birthday lunch last May. The service is second to none as they think of everything. Water was brought to the table without asking and the food was absolutely sublime. Mum and I shared the fish platter starter between us and there was more than enough for both of us. We then both had the cod with crushed new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and clam sauce. Mum didn't want the sauce over her fish and asked for hers in a small jug, which wasn't a problem. We had a lovely glass of wine and spent our time over our food, as we weren't hurried along. All in all a lovely meal and we will both be back soon.

Liked Bank House a lot. A gorgeous converted merchants house, this is an upmarket , award winning, pub and restaurant with very nice rooms. It is on the banks of the river where the merchants would have traded goods delivered to the port. It is also very close to the old part of town which is gorgeous. My room was really large. It was spotlessly clean, presented really well with all the right touches like freshly baked cookies, home blended coffee, bottled water etc. Nice shower and toiletries and a huge, super comfortable bed. The room had a lot of character and was beamed with some seriously old panelling in parts of the room. Decor was nice! I ate in the restaurant. A good choice of restaurant meals, not pub meals. Clearly a foodies choice. I think it has won awards. Service was ok - very pleasant but a little slow. Lacked finesse too. For example I had a plate of local cheeses. The server didn’t tell me what they were which in a really good restaurant they would gave. That is quite picky because it was good service all in all. I enjoyed the fact their were no kids to be seen too. My only rub is that you have to park in the council run car park and it is not an inexpensive addition to the cost if your stay. There isn’t anything the Bank House can do about that. I would stay again and I would have no problem recommending it.

Went for afternoon tea and we were seated in one of the rooms that was not in the main restaurant/ bar area. It was perfect and we had a lovely relaxing afternoon with a delicious afternoon tea. The food was very good, warm scones and sausage rolls and a selection of sandwiches & cakes with unlimited tea & coffee. A very enjoyable experience.

Very nice food with a good range to suit most. The range was somewhat limited on the menu but the items ordered were all very nice and well presented.

wife treated me to afternoon tea for my birthday on monday 13th of january, Loved the place, Food was great looked and tasted fresh and cheap enough at £30 for 2 people. Only issue was daughter had a sandwhich which had spots of mould on the crust and salad looked wilted with old soggy toms. "why didnt i say anything" waiter was a nice guy that was welcoming enough and afternoon tea was lovely other than me wondering if id just eaten the same mouldy bread than my daughter was given

My wife and I stayed for my over my 50th birthday weekend, we were upgraded to the Captain's Room which such a nice surprise and we really loved the room. The staff were so helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We also had dinner here and despite there being several Christmas parties going on that evening we never had to wait for service or food. The food was delicious for both dinner and breakfast. In short we will be back!

Booked afternoon tea for birthday present.Arrived and was seated and tea offered. I had specified that I didnt like fruit cake and mince pies as this is the time of year for festive desserts. Sandwiches lovely plenty of filling and fresh. Went to eat the scones couldn’t cut them. Staff agreed they were rock hard and returned them telling us that they only make a certain number fresh everyday so there might not have any left. However two piping hot scones came out to us and we were able to cut them, unfortunately once cooled they were rock hard so inedible . Obviously they had microwaved the scones. I did complain and was told they were sorry about it. The other cakes on offer were not that appetising. Bakewell tart, mince pie slice, coconut jam slice and chocolate brownie. The staff were very busy and we had to ask for ore tea. After finishing I asked for a box to take the remaining cake home as I was reluctant to leave them as I thought the tea was very poor. On asking for the bill I was told that they had only charged for one person and apologised. As I had taken a guest for a birthday tea I was not impressed. I have had afternoon tea there before and it was ok. Doubt if I will return.

Another notch on the restaurant week, this time going for dinner with friends (11 of us) so we dined in the boardroom which felt special. Dinner is more expensive than lunch with two courses £18 and 3 £23. We both had the Barnsley chop followed by a chocolate delice, all excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a great evening.

Went to the bank house (which I often do) but my first vegetarian Sunday roast. It was quite nice but no roast parsnips & gravy was tasteless. It was served with cabbage & mangetout, if you wanted leeks in cheese sauce it was an extra £2 which for the cost of £14.50 I expect better.

Wonderful afternoon tea, good selection of sandwiches & cakes with very nice scones jam & cream to finish. Plenty of fresh tea in constant supply. Very nice comfortable old fashioned surroundings and staff very attentive. We felt no pressure to finish or leave, altogether a very enjoyable experience. Parking nearby was also easy.

Visited for an afternoon tea on the weekend just gone. It isn't fair to compare to other afternoon teas with the Assembly House in Norwich coming to mind, as all are individual, so, this afternoon tea is in a really nice setting by the quay, with a nice ambience in the restaurant area looking out. The coffees and tea we had were really good, the sandwiches were tasty and fresh. 2nd tier had a nice sausage roll and a fruit scone (only moan would be i would've liked it warm). The cakes on top were all good with a mini Victoria sponge and bakewell along with a brownie and tiffin. Definitely recommend and good value for money, as i left full.

Second visit with large group. One sausage roll each, best part of the afternoon tea assortment. Sandwiches were okay, fillings not very exciting. The worst part though were the scones and cakes, assuming they were made in house the scones were heavy and dry. The eclairs were not finished and left on the platter. The Bakewell tarts were like my children would make with overworked pastry. The best bits were the macaroons and the small round of Victoria sponge. There was no option of tea, and we had to wait for staff to reappear to ask for refills. Tea strainers were on the table, which was just for show as tea bags were used. Unfortunately I will not go back again It was not worth the £15 price tag, I left hungry.

A family meal was organised with people travelling for over an hour and a half to get there. The first thing was the bar service, only one steward and he was working like a beaver, the second and worst thing was the beer, it was disgusting, first pint poured was cloudy and had a smell of vinegar, the second pint from a different barrel was actually sent back, it was totally undrinkable. The Guinness was kept well, as was the lager.

Although the treacle smoked salmon was a nice starter the quantity was so small it barely registered, one spoonful and it had gone. Neither my friend or I are big eaters, but even we thought that it was more like an amuse bouche than a starter. The main was lovely. Mariette Burrows

The two things I ordered (Sunday Evening) they had ran out off & what I got was being honest average, the roast saved by a great gravy, so I was really looking forward to a hearty breakfast. Sorry Sir we’re out of Black Pudding and then given a poached egg that came from a Quail......This is a lovely building, great history with very comfortable bedrooms & I was looking forward to my visit but sadly it did not hit the mark. To be fair to the staff, there was a very busy 60th going on so they may have been stretched but this is supposed to be one of those places to stay & enjoy & they should be able to cope. Being charged for two roast dinners on a single occupancy probably capped it off...I will have to give it another go though so can’t have been all that bad.
