We had pre chosen our three course lunch as we were a post wedding group. The venue was a pleasant, warm and comfortable room overlooking the quay with decor very appropriate to the historicity of the building. The service was attentive and well timed. The food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the blueberry creme brûlée. It was very well balanced, not over creamy as some can be, and with just the right amount of brûlée topping, crisp and delicious. I also appreciated the biscotti that appeared to be home made.

Went here for Sunday lunch whilst on holiday in Hunstanton. Had a lovely meal although service could have been a bit better, being totally ignored by the dizzy waitress, we did actually enjoy our lunch, went back the following day and had another great lunch, this time service was much better. We will be back. Just like to add that I have had many a brilliant dessert on my frequent restaurant travels but the Pineapple one I had on Sunday (only 2 options, bit bad) was the WORST I have ever tasted and for £6.50 was disgraceful, not even fresh pineapple. Did mention to the supervisor and he was going it to mention to the chef.

A birthday celebration & thought this would be the place to celebrate but wasn’t the celebration that we thought we would get. The young staff couldn’t fault at all, he was excellent and constantly apologised for the wait & made the visitDidn’t know who was taking us to the table & thought originally it was another customer who approached us, sat at table starters were quick but then had to wait for nearly an hour for main course, think this was due to a larger party and second sittings on adjacent tables. Food average and not what we expected wouldn’t hurry back

Booked celebration afternoon tea for wedding anniversary. Was nice but Unfortunately wasn’t the best we have had. On arrival taken to table area to be then told our table wasn’t set up so we returned to bar area to wait. Within two minutes then told our table was ready. Sat next to what looked like an unsightly dusty machine with cobwebs in alcove, the rest of area was clean. Our waitress brought our Prosecco to the table, we were expecting one glass each, but the bottle was left with us in an ice bucket, initially thought that was a nice gesture as it was our anniversary ( I informed them at the time of booking). However was very short lived as this was removed quickly by another staff member as he ‘didn’t think we would want an unexpected £20 added to the bill. (True)The tea was nice, but the two scones one fruit and one cheese were small and slightly hard. Strange to have jam and cream on a cheese scone!! No small desert as we have had on other afternoon teas. We had a nice time, but not sure we would returnI believe our waitress was new to the job, but she was very ‘bubbly and friendly’

Seafood starter to share was absolutely delicious. Drinks weren’t quite so good, my beer on arrival was very cloudy and they didn’t have the wine on the menu we ordered but I was told ‘it’s the same’ by a waitress who called me darlin’ ! Not sure about the bouillabaisse, not sure it had all the ingredients it claimed. Enjoyed the night out and location. Nearly there!

We dined in this elegant and stylish quayside restaurant twice during our stay in Kings Lynn as we were so impressed with it. On the first evening we chose the Sharing Seafood Platter for the main course and at only £20 it was a very tasty bargain and very well presented. The cheese board that we had for dessert was also very good with a good selection of local cheeses. On the second visit we went for the lobster and again this was excellent and very reasonably priced. The service was above average and the draft lager served nicely chilled. The only down side was that the restaurant has a fly problem but then so do a lot of other restaurants in this part of the world. We will certainly dine here again if we return to Kings Lynn and can thoroughly recommend the Bank House for a lovely evening out.

I booked afternoon tea for my friend's birthday, but when we got there this afternoon, they weren't expecting us! It turns out that they have a new booking system, and they'd booked us in on the wrong day!I felt so embarrassed that I'd booked it over a month ago, we'd been really looking forward to it and now we had nothing. The staff were very apologetic and gave us a free drink each, but we ended up going elsewhere.

Friends booked this restaurant for dinner. What a lovely place. Really helpful staff, fantastic food, good wine list which offers good choices for every budget. My wife and I had the seafood platter which was all fresh, as if they had just jumped out of the sea. Then I had the cod and chips. I am a slow eater, and that batter stayed crispy right to the end. Lovely place, thoroughly recommendable. Plenty of rooms to eat privately or in a lesser crowd. Amazing.

Went for a quick coffee in the morning, took 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order even though we were persistently going inside to ask for service at our table. Finally someone took our order, 20 minutes passed and we had enough, we were part of an event and had to leave, so we spoke to someone else inside and said we are sorry, the coffee has taken too long, we wont be having it, and we left.In the evening we decided to go back for a coffee, in good faith that we would give our business to this restaurant. On ordering (after having to search for staff to take our order), another member of staff came outside and spoke to us in a condescending manner who said that we had to pay for our coffees from the morning because we had walked off without paying. We had to basically argue with this member of staff who was being downright rude to us to tell them that we had told a member of staff we couldnt have the coffee because the service was slow. 20 minutes later the coffee turned up, and in the entire time we were there no member of staff came to our table. The cups were also filthy with stains of previous users tea, and the staff didnt even remove the previous peoples glasses from the table on taking our order. Disgusting service, rude staff. Also, on going inside to find a waiter / waitress, many of them were just sitting around or having a laugh, not bothering with waiting customers. Do not be suprised if you are ignored, have dirty crockery and are treated rudely by staff. Massive let down.

We went for a treat to celebrate my son's 21st. The restaurant has a very smart look, dining rooms are interlinked and each area is very smart. We have enjoyed this restaurant before. But this time the quality of the meals did not match up. The cocktail had a wilted sprig of mint, the lobster salad was basically half a small lobster, some mixed green leaves on the side and some potatoes, no culinary finesse seen. Burger was a burger with sauces in packets, the whole sea bass however was tasty. Of three desserts, two were uninspiring. A final disappointment was that the staff had not taken the initiative to treat my son with any little surprise to mark this meal as special, even though I mentioned his Birthday on arrival. Most places can stretch to a cupcake with a candle or so, it would have been lovely.

We ate here twice this week. Keen, attentive and efficient staff. Good wine list and well priced. The scallop and pea veloute starter is superb. Good fish, skinny burger and steak. I saw someone with lobster although it was not on the menu so the second time I asked and was able to have it. Simple but tasty presentation. World recommend this restaurant, do pay for parking in the evening even if it does not seem clear you should. Second time we came my husband had asked for a couple of specific table options which were noted but we were offered the table he considered the worst in the house so pretty much ruined the evening (we were instantly moved elsewhere). Really nice crème brulee and my husband had teh cheeseboard twice!

We are new to the Bank House, however we have visited 3 times over the last few weeks. I thought it best to pass my review after a few visits. Every time I have visited the front of house have been on point and the manager himself exemplary. It’s nice to be greeted and then asked if you have a mask, sanitise and sign the relevant COVID paper work. The Bank House is a Georgian building and very typically grand with large sash windows and huge bay windows. With wooden floors and an open fire I can’t recommend anywhere else in Kings Lynn to spend a winters afternoon. Slightly over looking the river and the buildings adjoins what looks like a sluice gate. The menu at the moment is limited however I have been happy with the dishes that I have chosen, the price is high end for the town but luckily there is a Weather Spoons a few hundred meters down the road. The portions aren’t huge but that is in keeping with the menu and the style of the restaurant. The waiting staff are happy, (as far as I have tested them) to accommodate and changes to the menu, I asked to swap crackers for bread on the Ploughman’s, we ordered mains and staters together ect.So all in all if your looking to dine with amazing ambience, sterling front of house and great tasting food. Try the Bank House. If you have an issue or are dissatisfied then I implore you to ask for the manager as I have all confidence in him.Ben

Thoroughly recommended.

Nice friendly greeting and one of the waitresses was very nice, but that was the best part. Very limited menu. Steak arrived very quickly and was not very good, tasteless and tough, absolutely no juices at all. I was asked at the beginning if it was ok but I had only just started eating so didn't really know at that point. When I had finished it was obvious there was something wrong because of the inedible pieces left on the plate. I told the waitress and she said she would tell them in the kitchen and that was it. What really made me laugh was being served half a small field mushroom and half a small tomato. When the normal price for the steak is £25 and the Government is paying £10 surely they can afford a whole mushroom.I certainly will not be going back.

Very disappointing meals - fish definitely wasn’t large as ordered & definitely of very poor quality - Chips tasteless & possibly re-heated / Burger not very appetising either. All very embarrassing as my wife& I were treating a friend to a special birthday Lunch. Just dreadful. B Considering the Government Discounted Scheme during August the menu was very limited compared to other eateries we’ve visited in the area - Definitely not the standard we’ve experienced at the Bank House in the past. Management should address these adverse issues - Don’t fob your customers off with such dreadful crap meals - will not be returning or recommending!

Booked a table for 2 for my wife's birthday. We have been to the restaurant many times in the past, however this was not a pleasant experience. Taken to a table near the entrance, no atmosphere. The menu is very limited and not one we recognise from before. If you would like a burger, pasta, fish and chips then fine but not a great choice. I understand that Covid rules make things difficult for the restaurant but if they want to entice people out to dine, then a menu of more than pub food is needed. Staff did their best but management need to reassess what they want the restaurant to be particularly during the winter months.

My fiancee, our small dog and I were looking for a place to enjoy a late lunch in Kings Lynn and stumbled across the Bank House just yards from where we had parked our car on South Quay. We sat outside where the wall both blocked the view of the river, but also the strong breeze blowing off the river! The staff were friendly and attentive, the food tasty and the cost low due to the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme. The menu has been reduced due to the COVID pandemic, but I had a superb Ploughman's, while my fiancee enjoyed some delicious chips and chocolate ice cream! The dog was also welcome in the garden. Inside, the tables were safely distanced, the decor very smart and the toilet was spotlessly clean. Very good.

Extremely disappointed with the food. Ordered a pea risotto and it tasted like mushy peas with some rice in it. Also ordered medium steak and it was red with blood seeping out! Sadly when I commented about the steak the excuse I was given was that it might have been someone else’s order! I felt sorry for the front staff - they handled my complaint well when it came to the risotto - they did not charge me for it as I had only eaten couple of mouthfuls. A table occupied of ladies and one other only of three people. No one else entered for the duration of our meal.Food served disappointing.I ordered sea bass with noodles, expecting a fresh light plate of food.Sea bass overcooked, noodles were like basic pasta, thick with a gloopy sauce. My husbands salad should have had saffron potatoes, no saffron. This restaurant has lost much of the charm it used to hold over the years.Menus have dishes also on the reverse, I did't even see the sandwiches etc on offer.Any place of class would have a separate page for each menu. This will be our last visit here.

Liked Bank House a lot. A gorgeous converted merchants house, this is an upmarket , award winning, pub and restaurant with very nice rooms. It is on the banks of the river where the merchants would have traded goods delivered to the port. It is also very close to the old part of town which is gorgeous. My room was really large. It was spotlessly clean, presented really well with all the right touches like freshly baked cookies, home blended coffee, bottled water etc. Nice shower and toiletries and a huge, super comfortable bed. The room had a lot of character and was beamed with some seriously old panelling in parts of the room. Decor was nice! I ate in the restaurant. A good choice of restaurant meals, not pub meals. Clearly a foodies choice. I think it has won awards. Service was ok - very pleasant but a little slow. Lacked finesse too. For example I had a plate of local cheeses. The server didn’t tell me what they were which in a really good restaurant they would gave. That is quite picky because it was good service all in all. I enjoyed the fact their were no kids to be seen too. My only rub is that you have to park in the council run car park and it is not an inexpensive addition to the cost if your stay. There isn’t anything the Bank House can do about that. I would stay again and I would have no problem recommending it.

Booked afternoon tea for birthday present.Arrived and was seated and tea offered. I had specified that I didnt like fruit cake and mince pies as this is the time of year for festive desserts. Sandwiches lovely plenty of filling and fresh. Went to eat the scones couldn’t cut them. Staff agreed they were rock hard and returned them telling us that they only make a certain number fresh everyday so there might not have any left. However two piping hot scones came out to us and we were able to cut them, unfortunately once cooled they were rock hard so inedible . Obviously they had microwaved the scones. I did complain and was told they were sorry about it. The other cakes on offer were not that appetising. Bakewell tart, mince pie slice, coconut jam slice and chocolate brownie. The staff were very busy and we had to ask for ore tea. After finishing I asked for a box to take the remaining cake home as I was reluctant to leave them as I thought the tea was very poor. On asking for the bill I was told that they had only charged for one person and apologised. As I had taken a guest for a birthday tea I was not impressed. The worst part though were the scones and cakes, assuming they were made in house the scones were heavy and dry. The eclairs were not finished and left on the platter. The Bakewell tarts were like my children would make with overworked pastry. The best bits were the macaroons and the small round of Victoria sponge. There was no option of tea, and we had to wait for staff to reappear to ask for refills. Tea strainers were on the table, which was just for show as tea bags were used. Unfortunately I will not go back again It was not worth the £15 price tag, I left hungry.

A family meal was organised with people travelling for over an hour and a half to get there. The first thing was the bar service, only one steward and he was working like a beaver, the second and worst thing was the beer, it was disgusting, first pint poured was cloudy and had a smell of vinegar, the second pint from a different barrel was actually sent back, it was totally undrinkable. The Guinness was kept well, as was the lager.

Although the treacle smoked salmon was a nice starter the quantity was so small it barely registered, one spoonful and it had gone. Neither my friend or I are big eaters, but even we thought that it was more like an amuse bouche than a starter. The main was lovely. Mariette Burrows

The two things I ordered (Sunday Evening) they had ran out off & what I got was being honest average, the roast saved by a great gravy, so I was really looking forward to a hearty breakfast. Sorry Sir we’re out of Black Pudding and then given a poached egg that came from a Quail......This is a lovely building, great history with very comfortable bedrooms & I was looking forward to my visit but sadly it did not hit the mark. To be fair to the staff, there was a very busy 60th going on so they may have been stretched but this is supposed to be one of those places to stay & enjoy & they should be able to cope. Being charged for two roast dinners on a single occupancy probably capped it off...I will have to give it another go though so can’t have been all that bad.

First visit and what a lovely building. We arrived at 2pm and it was very busy. Food was delicious, but service was a little slow, took nearly two and half hours to eat a 3 course meal, as there was a long wait between each course. The waitress that served us seemed to be frustrated and under pressure and was not happy when someone on another table asked for an additional chair. Tables are very close together so not much space to move around comfortably. Lovely views, delicious food, worth a visit!

This fabulous and fascinating grade 2 listed building has managed to accomplish a very rare feat. The beauty and integrity of the building has been enhanced and celebrated wherever possible, and yet, for example, modern bathrooms with fabulous electric showers complete with amazing water pressure have been seamlessly integrated to give the absolute best of both worlds. I stayed on business recently in the Captain's room and what an absolute pleasure. Easy to find, located as it is on the banks of the river. Parking is a little distance away on Boal Quay for long stay. I was welcomed and my bags taken and shown to my room with warmth and genuine hospitality but efficiently. The room is outstanding. Hugely spacious, beautifully decorated with a stand alone bath with views of the river and a full blown modern bathroom with wet room, electric shower, amazing instant hot water with good water pressure and the most gorgeous sparkling white, fluffy towels and robes. The complimentary toiletries are expensive and generous and just indicative of the care and thought that has gone in to everything. The bed linen is a high thread count, beautiful quality and immaculately clean on a beautifully dressed bed. The night I stayed was terribly humid, so a spare sheet had been left out to use should I wish to lose the duvet. Now THAT is 5 star hospitality. The dinner was superb, every single staff member I interacted with across the whole stay was nothing but charming, professional and attentive. If appropriate, do make sure you visit the ladies rest room in the main part of the hotel to see how beautifully they have kept the old cooking range and made it a quirky and fabulous feature of the room. There is indeed lots of history and memorabilia about the hotel which lends depth and fascination to moving around the hotel. Many quirky rooms to snuggle up in, or entertain a larger group in relative privacy. How fantastic! Breakfast was delicious and freshly prepared, dietary requests accommodated with grace and good manners and check out was a joy as I explained what a wonderful time I had had. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. I will return whenever I am lucky enough to be in the area.

We love the bank house and regularly went out our way to eat in the restaurant. But o dear something has gone badly wrong .Our food tonight was very moderate ,average at best .Not only was the food bad a pint of lager has gone up to £4-90 .I understand the head chef has recently left and that would explain a lot .Come back Stuart all is forgiven .What a shame .a rare Norfolk gem ruined . Can only assume such a dramatic change is due to new owners .

Bank House is on the quayside in historic Kings Lynn, a beautiful spot. The food is super, the team very friendly and the building historic and quirky. We had an excellent lunch (see photos) with friends on Sunday. Besides traditional Sunday lunch there was a good range of choices, we had the superfood salad with salmon and risotto, both great choices. The dessert were also very nicely presented. It’s not cheap but moderately priced.

We stayed one night late April in lovely weather. With a very comfortable first floor room facing the river, we had a lovely experience. I thought it was good value. Dinner was good. Business-like food rather than fine dining. Rather nice. I think they were busy with two private parties, so maybe a little stretched. We would come back any time. Sitting out on a bar terrace is a great experience as well, although beware that cold wind from the North Sea.

Good location overlooking the Ouse in the older part of KL. Trio of pork main was excellent with tender meat, tasty accompaniments, beautifully presented. The shiraz was good too. Not so the 'appetiser' of griddle turkish flatbread and hummus. Bread was cut too thinly and was barely warm plus the hummus had been dished up a while so going dry. Nice ambienace and, in Summer, terrace has views over the river.

It was a birthday present and it was a Sunday and they first of all put us in the restaurant with everyone who was having a late Sunday lunch which was a bit weird so we asked if there was somewhere else we could sit. They moved us to a beautiful room and we're a bit surprised that they didn't just put is there in the first place. The service was fine and the food was nice but nothing special really but I think afternoon tea these days is being served everywhere so to be different isn't easy.

I hadn't been here before but wanted somewhere to take my mum for her 80th birthday so thought I'd try it. Parking is outside but we had to pay as the restaurant is on the historic quay. It was not expensive but I would bear this in mind if you have frail relatives or mobility issues. The restaurant was a bit drafty despite it being a mild February day. The decor was fine and the seating comfortable. Staff were attentive, but the woman serving our drinks didn't seem to know which was which despite them being written down on a pad on the same tray. I ordered the halloumi and mushroom burger which was really disappointingly dull. I think it could have done with a nice relish or something to make it sing. The chips were fries which is never a good thing, but is personal choice, so some people might prefer this. They had been pre-salted which I dislike. My companions had the roast beef and disliked the fact that it was served swimming in gravy saying that they would prefer to be able to add as much or as little gravy as they wanted. My mum thought the veg was underdone, but my partner said it was fine, just as veg should be cooked, i.e. not overcooked so it is soft. The selection of veg on offer was also good. The Yorkshire pudding looked really good, but I didn't taste it and no one passed comment about it so I can't judge. The portion size was spot on, I didn't feel uncomfortable but didn't have a dessert because I was full. We left saying that we wouldn't try it again but maybe we just chose poorly? A lot of people seem to love this place, so I could well be wrong.
