Such a friendly and welcoming place. Had delicious oat coffee and vegan muffin. Great they offer vegan and gluten free options!

We came to the Banana Garden for afternoon tea. We really enjoyed the sandwiches, scones and cakes. The table was decorated for my birthday, which was a lovely touch. This was my first visit and definitely not my last. Seems to be a very popular place x

Friendly service , nice local tea room. The menu is changing all the time so they have most of it written on chalkboards which is a little bit harder to navigate. It could do with a bit of a menu revamp, but I think they’re happy with what they have to offer and from other reviews it sounds as if it’s more of a cake/coffee place than a café. It’s always busy so they must be doing something right!

I can highly recommend the excellent food and staff at The Banana Garden. I visited on Mother’s Day (today) for afternoon tea with my daughter, granddaughter and godmother. The food was delicious - sandwiches were very freshly made and not crispy at the corners like some other afternoon teas that I’ve experienced ( particularly in hotels and large restaurants which tend to be mass produced). A fantastic selection of cakes, tiny desserts and then scones jam and cream. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers on every table and pretty cups saucers and cake stands. Nothing was too much trouble with extra tea brought without being asked. My granddaughter (aged five) had her own cake stand and choice of sandwiches with an enormous hot chocolate with marshmallows. A lovely afternoon at The Banana Garden and will return very soon

My sister and I took our mum to The Banana Garden today for Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. It was a wonderful experience; All the tables were beautifully set with flowers and dainty tea sets and the selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes and mini desserts and scones was plentiful. More tea and coffee was offered and brought throughout the time we were there and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Well done and a massive thank you to Margaret and all your lovely girls working today ( I hope you get to enjoy your own Mother’s Day with your families later ) A really lovely time had by all. Thanks again and see you soon. And if you missed out today I’m sorry but I highly recommend it!

Had afternoon tea here today with 7 friends. Fabulous filled sandwiches. Rolls, scones and lovely cakes. Friendly staff kept tea and coffee flowing. Well done ladies. we will be back

What a lovely little local gem. Come here for a great coffee most days and enjoy lunch here with friends and my son regularly. Welcoming family feel with quirky decorations and design. Love how they have an In house talented artist who always decorates the cafe for any holiday / occasion. It’s the little touches with table numbers and themed specials which are really lovely. Great menu and my sons firm favourite are the pancakes and a toastie ❤️ . What makes this place is the staff friendly helpful and just all round lovely. I would thoroughly recommend a visit

Really disappointing visit. We have been before and it’s been lovely but this time was awful. The food has really gone downhill. I ordered avocado, eggs cheese and bacon on toast and the bread was one thin slice from a cheap value cut loaf. I was expecting a decent bread at the very least. The cheese was cheap plastic grated cheese chucked on top. The quality of the food and presentation was very poor. The people with me had sandwiches and they came presented just as poorly with no salad or garnish. Not sure what’s happened but the food was lovely previously but not this time!

good service but nothing on display to tempt you to buy, example delicious cakes etc. Outside area could be cleaner as litter from public ! if all the shops on the oval made a point of cleaning up outside their business it would be so much more pleasant to sit outside .

Lovely afternoon tea with my sisters one of which is vegan. The tea was delicious and the cakes and sandwiches were amazing. Definitely worth a visit

The Banana Garden is a spacious eclectic cafe located on the borough's 1930s-built 'The Oval' parade of shops. The interior features bric a brac, ornaments and quirky furnishings. As a person with a larger than average rear end I can confirm that the metal chairs dug into my flesh and weren't at all comfortable. The tables are squashed in somewhat and the plastic tablecloth stuck to my legs!? The menu isn't the most comprehensive either and is very expensive compared to other cafes I've previously visited, but maybe there's a levy for the business being located in a Sidcup postcode? The service was friendly and attentive. During my visit, there were a couple of noisy patrons who shouted down their phones rather loudly and somewhat disturbed the peace. I know this wasn't necessary the management's fault, but I do wish that they'd been asked to pipe down somewhat.

The staff are always so lovely and the gluten free options are by FAR the best around ( panini’s, bread, cakes!! ) - also great for family’s and a place to come with your dog !

I visit this cafe regularly . The staff are always very welcoming and quick to see what you’d like. A good range of sweet and savoury choices . A friendly , cheerful place to visit at any time of the day .

Took my parents there for a Sunday morning snack. When we first sat down we were totally ignored. The waiter was too busy giving a dog some biscuits. Which would not be a problem if he had at least acknowledged our existence and said he would be with us shortly. When he did finally come to our table, he asked us for our order before he had even given us menus. Ordered 3 coffee's and 3 Panini's. The dinks arrived and were ok, but not overly hot. Then waited approaching 30mins for the food. We had long since finished our drinks before the food arrived. The panini's were so far over cooked that they were rock hard. They were also tastless and didn't even come with a garnish of salad on the plate. We then had to ask for cutlery and condiments which were not automatically provided. Also at over £28 for 3 drinks and 3 Panini's, the prices were on the expensive side. Overall not a very satisfactory experience. Will not be rushing to return.

Awful. All of our orders came at different times and there was a hair in my food. When I sent it back and told them I no longer wanted the food, one of the staff came out and argued with me telling me ‘it’s a waste of our expenses’ and said ‘it could be your hair’. We also noticed several other customers complaining about their food being late. Will not be returning.

Disappointing - drinks came out and then everyone’s food came out in dribs and drabs. One family members food had a hair in it which had to be sent back. When we told the kitchen she did not want a replacement, the cook came out and said you’ve cancelled with no thought to expenses?! Shocking. By the time all the food came out we’d all finished our hot drinks. Several other customers had to chase their food which were just pastries that had to be put on a plate. Don’t think we’ll be returning as not a pleasant experience.

An amazing place so glad to have this on my doorstep, the cakes are fresh and homemade and just a lovely atmosphere

Popped in yesterday for a bite to eat. The staff were helpful and friendly. The cake tasted fresh and moist and the coffee was good! Treated myself to the beautiful trinkets and quote plaques. Great place will return.👍🏻

Nice unusual cafe that also is a sort of gift shop. Menu was confusing and I was disappointed by the jacket potato seeming to be a microwaved. Staff were slow and did not seem that friendly.

We popped in for lunch. Deceptive from the outside much larger inside than it looks leading to a small garden. Plenty of empty miss matched tables and chairs. Menu and notice boards hard to follow. Staff were not helpful or interested.When I asked what sandwich fillings they did I was shown premade wrapped sandwiches in a display case. I chose tuna. This was unwrapped and put on a plate, not freshly made as I expected. It was rather soggy. My husband ordered a jacket potato and cheese this was a long time in arriving and had obviously been microwaved. I had finished eating by this time and looked around the gifts and cards which were for sale. The toilet was very clean.

First time visit beautifully presented and loved the vintage chic throughout. Visited late Saturday afternoon and some items on the menu were unavailable. Only down side was the customer service, no one to welcome you to advise how their ordering process works and staff weren’t particularly friendly.

A lovely little shop, selling quirky gifts, jewellery and cards. The cafe is to the rear and sells coffee and cakes, with a small menu of hot food, and the mix and match tables run through from the gift shop. There is a small patio area outside at the back, and a couple of pavement tables out front. It has a really nice, homely feel about it. We love popping in for a coffee and a read of the papers.

Booked afternoon tea for myself and daughter who is gluten, wheat & dairy intolerant... great to have somewhere to eat and also someone who knew about gluten free. Great selection of cakes and sandwiches and the tea was flowing. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back! Friendly staff and nice atmosphere for somewhere local.

Visited this afternoon with two friends. Had booked an afternoon tea for which you need to pay upfront - £11.99 each. Was shown our table and our tea was brought out. The tea was flowing - we had 3 pots! As for the food it was lovely. Lots of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, little bite size pastries and macaroons. Really great service - ladies very pleasant and couldn't do enough for you. Will definitely go back and I can highly recommend this tea room.

Staff are exceptionally rude and brash. I visited with a group of friends (about 8 of us) for hot drinks and cakes (which were rather dry by the way). However, we were shocked and dismayed by the rudeness shown to us by the staff. They clearly have no respect for their customers. It looks pretty from the outside but the customer service is poor. Unfortunately it has put me off going there again.

My first visit to Banana Garden but won't be my last. A surprise booking for lunch with my daughter, who has been many times before. We had a delicious "high tea" style lunch with a selection of finger sandwiches, scone with cream & jam and mini sweets and desserts. Everything served on beautiful vintage China. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. They also have a wide range of cards and gifts . I would definitely recommend and look forward to my next visit.

We have stopped over as group of friends and took two tables outside. Each of us had bought something in this cafe - coffee and cake. My daughter had left over chips from nearby and put it on the table (closed container). As we chat and enjoy ourselves the staff member (lady in her 50s) storms off to us and tells us of for „eating something not from their cafe”. This would be understandable if we use their tables to eat something bought elsewhere but we all gave them business, purchased the items and all it was there was a sight if closed container on the table. It has completely spoiled our afternoon, we were shaken at how rude this lady was and how she has dismissed all our explanations as „it doesn,t matter”. We would NEVER step our foot there again, which is bad business sense as we are local to this place.

10 members of our family booked to have the festive afternoon tea here on Christmas Eve. We were well looked after by Donna & Carrie and were provided with a great assortment of sandwiches ( which Donna had kindly made adjustments to to meet our dietary requirements), a savoury , scones with cream and jam, a mini individual tiramisu , Yule log and numerous other cakes/pastries plus unlimited tea. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted great. We weren’t at all rushed and spent a very enjoyable couple of hours there .

I had my baby shower here yesterday, the food was delicious! The staff were nothing but accommodating & friendly! It’s so homley and pretty in there. I would definitely recommend & visit again! Thank you for making my day ultra special.

I recently hosted a good friends baby shower at The Banana Garden and was very impressed with the service I received before and during the event. We had an Afternoon Tea for 13 people and as we arrived the table was ready for decoration which Donna (a member of staff) kindly helped us with. The Afternoon Tea was lovely and we were supplied with plenty of tea, having this topped up without request. All in all it was a brilliant afternoon in such a lovely little place which also sells all sorts of little gifts. The staff were very friendly and very helpful and we enjoyed a good few hours there. I will definitely be returning and would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a coffee, lunch, snack, hot drink and cake and of course an Afternoon Tea.

My boyfriend and I went here for some lunch this afternoon, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a lot of selection for savoury food and felt the panini’s were slightly overpriced. However they tasted very good and their pastries and cakes selection seem to be there specialty. All looking homemade, my boyfriend had the caramel cake and it was delicious. Lovely decorations and feel to the place:)

My family and I enjoyed a prosecco afternoon tea for 4. I loved the shabby chic environment with the opportunity to buy items being displayed. The service was friendly, welcoming and the prosecco was of a good quality and beautifully chilled. We enjoyed our time spent in this relaxed setting.

Came here at the weekend for my friend’s baby shower and it was so lovely. Decorated well and the food was great. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating offering us a vegan platter and gluten free platter of cakes, sandwiches and scones. Such a lovely afternoon and perfect setting for a baby shower.

I used Banana Garden for the catering for my husbands 50th birthday. The food was absolutely outstanding. Great variety of food including desserts. Most of our guest took food home with them. Would recommend 100% for any catering needs.

This is a great little café/shop. I regularly visit this place and can say what a friendly, warm and comfortable place to relax with friends and enjoy a nice Tea, Coffee or other good selection of other hot or cold beverages. Also a good selection of sandwiches, paninis and sumptuous cakes.

Great place for afternoon tea your made to feel welcome by Donna and Carrie . The food was great and there is no rush for you to leave . Reasonably Priced , I saw some people had little dogs with them they were sat at the far end so dogs must be welcome . Lots of different teas and coffees and plenty of cake !

I came to the banana garden with my grandmother who is usually rather picky whne it comes to coffee shops and we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We had the chocolate cake which was delicious and coffee. The service is what really topped it off though a special mention to Sarah and Margret who were very lovely and catered to our every need. The customer service alone would make me want to come back!

Nine of us visited Banana Garden for Mother's Day yesterday and had a fantastic time. There was a decent amount of finger sandwiches, macaroons, scones, and delicate little cakes for everyone to enjoy, and of course plenty of tea and coffee. There was also squash for the children.

Visited during the afternoon with a friend for lunch. Great selection of sandwiches with delicious fillings. Great service as always from the staff (Margaret and Sarah) who made us two yummy hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows.

I visited the banana garden this morning for a Mother’s Day treat and was welcomed by 4 very smiley faces! The ladies were rushing around preparing for their busy Mother’s Day bookings but still took the time to chat to us and make our visit special. The food being prepared looked lovely! Pastries and finger sandwiches that I will definitely be booking an afternoon to try! Couldn’t help but ask if I could take a picture to show everyone how lovely these ladies always are and how much effort they put into making it a very special Mother’s Day! To make it even better, we didn’t realise that refills are only £1! And the two young ladies, Steph and Ella, remembered our order without us even having to ask! We were welcomed into a friendly atmosphere and there were plenty of delicious looking sandwiches and cakes to choose from. Although it was fairly busy the staff were pleasant and attentive in particular two lovely young ladies - Steph and Ella. Overall a great place, with tasty treats to enjoy and lots of trinkets and gifts to choose from should you need some. I shall definitely be returning!

I have been told so many times when visiting the Oval to pop in to the Banana Garden but never have time, however I visited with a friend on Monday for a coffee and a bite to eat and I’m so glad I did. The shop is very welcoming, it’s clean and tidy and I was welcomed with smiles from the 2 lady’s behind the counter! Names if I remember rightly Carrie and Donna, these 2 ladies made us feel very welcome and I must say I can’t wait to visit again!

I called in for lunch with my mum we had coffee and cake the service from Carrie and Donna was amazing. I also had a look at the lovely gifts you can buy! It was very welcoming and dog friendly! Will definitely be back! Thanks ladies!

Visited The Banana Garden with two friends last Friday. Lovely cafe, has many nice Nik Naks around that you can buy. Varied menu that is easy to read and decently priced. Donna and Carrie was the names of the servers and I must say I couldn’t fault their confident and friendly manner. I loved my bacon melt and would have it again for sure. Will definitely be visiting again, thank you for such a welcoming cafe so close to home.
