We have used the Bamboo regularly over the past 1 1/2 years we have lived in Exmouth. Excellent service and catering to food allergies. Good menu and food is excellent. Delivery service great.

Used to eat there quite regularly with friends, and food was not bad.... but then saw their abysmal one star government food hygiene rating. Now go elsewhere. See photo

After having a take away from here my husband suffered from sharp stabbing stomach pains and a very upset stomach will not be visiting again!

My duck in plumb sauce had no plum sauce and when I informed tbe manager he argued with me, saying I was wrong. Poor customer service. No care.

Very nice and lovely place. I have been 3 times and I really love this place. I will definitely visit this place again soon with my family. Food is amazing and staff is really nice I fully recommend for people who love Chinese food . See you soon.

We would never have eaten in this restaurant if it had not been for friends wanting to go there. In the end we were pleasantly surprised, and we would perhaps return again. The food was reasonable, and it was reasonably priced. None of our party of 4 had any complaints. The wine was a touch expensive. Service was also OK – again no complaints, apart from the amateurish struggle to uncork the wine bottle.

After trying the Noodle Bowl and feeling very ripped off I decided to go back to the Bamboo. Great food, a bowl of noodles with beef £9.50 compared to £13.00 and it tastes better! I have been using the bamboo over the last 15 years and being new to trip advisor I felt I should support this local business. its part of Exmouthand long may it continue.

It’s a shame to write this as considering up until yesterday me and my friends were regulars, however the rude waitress, poor manners of staff and okayish food had changed that. I wouldn’t recommend as it’s gone massively down hill recently, unless the staff seem to gain better hospitality training or learn to smile , we won’t be coming back

I recently ordered a take away which I was given a 45min wait on. After an hour passed I rang the restaurant to be told they had to return it to the restaurant because an incompetent staff member didn’t write down my contact details correctly. They said they would get the food back out to me straight away which took a further half an hour!! This left me really short of time before going out for the evening. When I eventually opened my food it was luke warm. I wasn’t offered any apologies my the members of the restaurant however the delivery driver was very apologetic. Will not be ordering from here again.

Always good food and good value here. Pleasant and helpful staff. Plenty of choice on the menu as well!

Found this remarkable restaurant over a year ago. When we can we still travel to have a walk around town and the front and of course have a set lunch in here. The size and amount of food is a superb value. The other thing is it is wheelchair accessible. There is plenty of room inside. If you want to eat nice food and drink green tea for under £20:00 for two people, give it a try on, Wed, Thur, Fri or Sat lunchtimes.

We had a meal here before going to take that at the cinema on Saturday. However very basic no chopsticks no flowers or tea light on table and food very mediocre. The quarter duck wasn’t enough for 6 pancakes and the sizzling beef was chewy and tough. The service was basic wasn’t asked once if everything ok or did we need any more drinks etc so paid and left. Need e few lessons from the birds nest in Honiton for customer satisfaction .

My wife Debbie and I decided to eat here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was almost empty with only one other couple seated. It was clean , bright and nice decor. The waiter approached with a smile and we were seated on a lovely clean table. We ordered from the early bird menu, which is a small choice of single dishes with either rice or noodles. I had duck with green peppers and black bean, my wife had a beef dish. The food arrived quickly in large bowls and were piping hot and very tasty. We washed these down with a nice cool glass of carlsberg lager. For £23 it was a nice meal in a lovely setting. Thank you!

Very disappointing. No set menus (which they used to do), greasy and deep fried starter platter. No chopsticks. No burners on the table. Your order came out in a dish or large bowl. I had prawns and cashews and whilst there was plenty of it, it was bland and tasteless and padded with tons of water chestnuts. Will not be hurrying back.

We only wanted something light and there we were outside this very contemporary Chinese restaurant. Shown straight to a table and ordered and the food was there in 12 minutes. Piping hot and absolutely full of flavour and well presented. Good price. The only thing that let it down for me was my pet hate....sticky tables.

Nice. Just got back from an early evening meal and had one of their early bird deals. A huge portion of chicken/beef with either rice or noodles for £7.50. Lovely food and was served up quick and with a smile. A well presented restaurant so would definitely recommend and we will be back soon.

6 of us book to eat here, service ok,forgot 2 of the dishes, food luke warm when it came out. Disappointed.

We have been here twice now and each time the food was great, service excellent and a good atmosphere.

As it was a Saturday night, we didn’t mind having to wait over an hour for our food to be delivered. However, our order arrived incomplete, and when we complained about the missing food, we were told we would have to wait another hour or so for it. The beef was chewy and the salt content of all the dishes was ‘huge’... the whole family was up through the night having to drink water. We won’t be ordering from the Bamboo Chinese restaurant again!

Had a birthday meal here last night... really good food...tried chicken with Cashew nuts..yum....and beef with green peppers in black bean sauce and fried noodles....

The interior of this restaurant is great a lovely traditional Chinese ambience and comfy chairs. It's an ideal place to come with whoever you want family friends or girlfriends I loved it. The menu has a great range and very affordable early bird deal for everyone the portions are massive and will definitely fill you up I will be visiting this place regularly!

Ordered a home delivery , was told 30/45 minute wait , after numerous phone calls after the waited time and no response , it finall arrived TWO hours later , stone cold and full of grease , worst ever ...

Bamboo Chinese takeaway in Exmouth..one word "VILE"! Got it delivered, it took 2hours 25mins, (1.5 hours later than suggested). Food arrived cold, called to complain and was advised to pop my prawn Chow mein in the Microwave to reheat. I called them 3 times for the delivery status, (I had work to go to) they lied each time. The driver had been on the road delivering all evening and came to me in a fluster (poor soul). Their customer service is appalling! Never ate the food and won't use again!

We went for a date here twice this September because my partner and I were so impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly service we received. I would particularly recommend the crispy duck pancakes.

Attentive on arrival. Fairly quiet with covers and take-out meals.Evening special menu available until 6.45pm, even cheaper for OAP's which sadly I was not. Seems good value on the surface, but the main menu 'beware'. Very disappointed with food quality and overall service. There is a moral here maybe in that you get what you pay for. Very poor restaurant quality food compered to others. Yes on the surface it appear cheap,however beware of ordering extras off the menu at seriously inflated prices. Look closely in the very dimmed ambieance, and the place is actually very filthy. A lesson learnt for me, which thankfully did not cost too much as I refused to pay for inedible food that was actually recommened to me. Just to be clear, avoid no 74 on the menu !!!°°

Not very good. Duck was a bit over cooked, ribs were quite fatty, the satay sticks are certainly not fresh chicken, the king prawns with Chinese vegetables was tasteless and the duck and pork with beansprouts was rubbery. The only saving grace was the fried pork rice which was passable..

Chinese restaurants can be a bit hit and miss. We dined here not knowing what to expect. We were seated and our had our orders taken without waiting too long. We did not have long to wait and the food was hot and every mouthful very tasty. In particular the fried noodles were very good, not greasy nor swimming in sauce. The portions are large and the prices represent good value for money.

We picked up a takeaway after a busy day out. Word of mouth recommended this restaurant and takeaway to us. They were not wrong. All of us enjoyed the early bird dishes that come with rice. My partner had the duck and bean sprouts and the duck was fantastic! I had sweet and sour chicken and rice, it was delicious and very well cooked . My daughter had the curry and rice and again it was lovely. We all shared a Singapore vermicielli which was beautifully presented and tasted divine. It all came to 24 pounds and we were stuffed but happy. We will certainly order again! Great quality food and service.

1st impressions here weren't good as when we arrived there was a sign say I g no credit cards taken and even before sitting down we were told this.

We visited on a Thursday night, restaurant was quiet with only 3 other tables occupied although there were a lot of takeaway customers. We opted for the 2 course create your own menu and were very happy as all the food was very nice and there was plenty of it. We went for the sharing platter followed by crispy shredded beef, duck in plum sauce and chicken in black bean sauce with egg fried rice. Overall very nice food and good pleasant service made for an enjoyable meal. We will be returning again soon.

A lot of potential but average food and sloppy service. The choice of dishes is good but the quality was just average. They forgot to provide a main dish and forgot an order for drinks due to focusing on takeaway orders.

I was so disappointed with this restaurant, having been in the past and enjoyed it. It's really gone downhill. They used the excuse that it was so busy with takeaway orders, that they fell down on the restaurant. Well quite frankly that's not good enough, we are the ones lining the pockets for paying extortionate drinks prices, we should be equally if not more important than takeaway guests.

As quite a large group, we were able to share a wide variety of dishes across menu. All were tasty, well seasoned and hot. I especially enjoyed the spicy squid which is a first for me.

Just got back home from the Bamboo Restaurant, Exmouth. We’ve been dining here for 30+ years. My husband’s 50th Birthday was catered for by them at our home, and on other special family occasions we’ve dined at the Bamboo. Tonight I had the chicken and sweet corn soup, and the duck with Chinese veg for my main course. We will always come back here. It’s extremely comfortable, the food is great, the staff are wonderful. We consider ourselves fortunate to live nearby Exmouth and this establishment.

Choose your own set meal -£16 a person. Choose three main course from a selected list and rice or noodles. Good size portions. China teapot £3.20.

Today my partner and I, after a stressful last few weeks, thought we would treat ourselves to a Chinese takeaway. We usually use this Chinese so were gratefully disappointed by the service we received. We spent juat over £30 for the two of us to find the food was stone cold and rather old tasting. The food was hard and foul smelling. We decided after a few mouthfuls that we didn't want to continue to eat in case we were to become ill. We both feel sick and are now sat home feeling rather hungry but with loss of appetite. Very unfortunately, we rang to complain and request our money back. We were told our food needed to be returned in full to enable a refund. Awful. We have since had a couple of glasses of wine between us and live 3 miles approximately from the shop so cannot drive to return the food. We rung again to be told the food must be returned and replaced by more (Awful) food. We will not be eating at Bamboo Exmouth again. The worst Chinese we have ever had!!!

Visting Devon and love chinese food, wasn't disappointed at all, very fast efficient service, starter was duck and was very average, however as part of our main we had the chicken balls and they were absolutely delicious best we've ever had- proper chicken with a beautiful batter that wasn't full of grease or oil, fantastic!

Visited Exmouth for the weekend and decided to go for a Chinese...and it was excellent,the sevice was good,the food really good.We had a set meal and couldn't fault it Would deffo recommend.

We visited this restaurant for the first time and found it very friendly. The food was cooked with great skill. The flavours were balanced beautifully. I had lamb with chilli and peppers which was superb. The lamb was succulent and the chilli was hot without being overpowering. My mother had a chicken chow mein and lamb with ginger and spring onion. She said the ginger was fresh and hot, the bean sprout were firm not soggy all indications of great cooking. Well done.

Really friendly staff. Very quick service. Early evening secial a great deal. Very tasty, full menu reasonable price, good choice of drinks. Will return.

A group of us decided to go here after a night out we were the last customers of the night. However the quality of the food was excellent as was the portion size. I shared a set meal for two which could of easily fed...

Lovely food, great variety and plenty of it. There was plenty of seating and we didn't book. It was also a take-away but we didn't wait long for our food in the restaurant.

Went to Bamboo last Saturday, very busy but staff soon accommodated us, staff professional and polite, lovely atmosphere. Food was absolutely delicious, (better than our local Chinese restaurant.) I've been a chef for 20 + years and will definitely be returning to Bamboo, I would happily recommend the place to anyone.

Located on the strand in the centre of Exmouth this restaurant serves good Chinese food. Service is excellent and we enjoyed the starters best. Clean enough restaurant.

Had what would have been a pleasant meal made absolutely wonderful by our helpful bubbly waitress. When you visit, seek out Emily, an absolute breath of fresh air. We will go again, but check that she is on duty!

This is very much a standard Chinese eatery, There’s nothing wrong in that but neither is there anything particularly good about it. The staff were busy but friendly, though it was a bit of a shock to be asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu when we had only just finished our duck starter! The menu for two or more is useful but the quality of the food is that of a very ordinary, high street Chinese take-away, nothing like the standard of the Woodberry take-away, for example,

Came here with friends and were very warmly welcomed. Service very attentive and friendly without being pushy. Food was classic Chinese selection - well cooked and presented.

We ordered the sharing menu and for this it was £16.00 each for a sharing platter to start and you then choose 3 mains and rice or noodles to follow. Food was really good and the portion sizes are just right. They will also let you box up any left overs which is a really nice gesture.I think for a Chinese this was really good value for money and I would 100% return when visiting Exmouth.

I decided to take my wife here for dinner. I ordered a bottle of the over priced red wine. The waitress brought it to the table and didnt even bother to open it for me she just walked away. The food was then rushed out which to be fair tasted good however it was way overpriced to other chinese restaraunts ive been to. Overall the service was crap and it all just seemed rushed. A bit of a money grabbing place to be honest would not recommend.

We have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years. It has always been very good quality and value. We now live in Torquay so don't get to Exmouth very often, but we went there yesterday and were delighted to find the quality and value was still excellent.

Had an "Early Bird" meal and was surprised at the superb taste and content. Our second visit in two weeks trying different dishes each visit, all of good taste and content. Only downside was wine a bit overpriced. But food no complaints.

The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Not at all oily. We ordered the set menu - more than enough food and all very tasty. The restaurant kindly brought out cakes that I'd brought with me for the birthday girl and boys with plates and a knife and with the napkins I'd brought included on each plate. I would definitely visit again.

I have used this restaurant for years but although the food is good as ever we had to request the Soy Sauce and for a tiny amount of Chilli oil needed to spice things up they charged £1 - see attached - I have never known this anywhere (even in Gerrard St in Soho) this is a blatant attempt to extract a small amount of extra revenue but after going here for 20 years this little item annoyed us sufficiently that we won't go back because there are plenty of options. In essence a little detail like this loses a customer who pays £30/40 per person on each visit - I doesn't make sense.

One of the best Chinese meals I have had. Food hot and so tasty. Service was first class, waitresses very friendly and efficient. Definitely recommend.

I ordered Cantonese style roast duck with plum sauce on Saturday 1st July. What I received was duck and cabbage in what looked like water and tasted bland. This used to be an excellent restaurant but I won't be going there again.

Had the lunch special here last week. It was £5.90. I had a huge bowl of tasty pork chow mein. The service was fast and the food excellent. Would recommend.

This restaurant was recommended by a family member who visited the Bamboo for lunch. We couldn't make lunch but managed the early evening deal they had on offer...what a bargain!...the food was excellent for the price we paid, was freshly cooked and served in large bowls. The staff were very friendy, we would highly recommend this restaurant...(Singapore Vermicelli was one of the best dishes) its a shame we only get to Exmouth once a year!

Really nice Chinese food which is consistently good! We have eaten in the restaurant which is nice and clean. Takeaway service is good. All staff are courteous and professional.

We have been going to this restaurant for about 8 years they are always so good when busy or quiet, food is brilliant. They are great with our grandkids too usually 10 of us go and they could not do more for us.

Fancied having Chinese food while away for a couple of nights. Asked some locals for a good Chinese and they recommended The Bamboo. Ideally situated in the town centre we weren't disappointed the food was excellent and to be honest there was too much. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was reasonably priced

I am not sure what all the bad reviews mean as we had a perfectly acceptable, if not outstanding, Chinese meal. I had chicken with cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce with plain rice and it was fine; husband had Cantonese style chicken and again it was fine. With two beers the bill was £26. Restaurant rather empty but it was early.

Awful food and dirty restaurant. Yuko, Yuko! We should have known better when at 1pm only two tables occupied and, other than ourselves, no other Chinese diners.I would give this place a miss. Sorry but, sometimes the truth hurts!

Absolutely disgusted by the attitude of the manager.Was sent the main part of the meal which was wrong and anybodys guess as to what it was.I ordered fillet steak in black pepper sauce.I corrected the person on the phone twice whilst ordering the meaI that i wanted black pepper sauce not blackbean. They sent the correct replacement after 30 mins by this time everything else had been picked at and was cold.The steak was the main part of the meal so 33 pounds spent and meal ruined.My partner has terminal cancer so everything is about memories I rang back and explained to the manager who was rude to my partner and tried denying the dish was wrong to start with,he then said if I take back the food untouched he would consider a partial refund, but if it had been touched we wouldn't get a penny.To top it off its not fillet steak just chewy beef.thanks for ruining our night.would give it minus 4 circles as the coke was cold.

All tasted the same and none was good. Very soupy meal. General Tso's chicken and sesame chicken tasted the same.

Freindly staff, excellent food (and good value) finished off with excellent French and Irish Coffees (trust me not all resteraunts get these right). It was a Saturday night and we had booked, out table was a bit cut off from the main dining area, so many times I have worn a jumper to a resteraunt and being sweltering hot - so tonight I didn't - mistake! Draughts from the doors opening made it distinctly chilly! But just a minor fault - on the plus side the toilets were 'spotlessly clean' - always a sign of a good venue.

We turned up at the Bamboo without a reservation on a busy Saturday night and didn't have to wait too long for a table. The staff were very helpful and made us feel welcome. We chose the set price meal for two which actually allowed for quite a choice of both starter and main course. The meal came quickly and was hot and very tasty. The portions were large and we struggled to finish. Would recommend this restaurant both on the quality of the food and value for money.

On spec my wife wanted a Chinese meal and we looked around exmouth and had a lovely pint before hand in the grapevine pupils house just around the corner from the strand. We really love exmouth and got chatting to the locals who say to try the bamboo for a Chinese we decided to go and try the man was friendly and there was a young English girl behind the bar who didn't really say anything but thats up to her I surpose . Anyway going on to the food we asked about the set menu which was all explained to us without any problems we had this had a beer and when the starters and the main came piping hot plenty of food and absolutely beautiful food we will definitely return to the bamboo.

Ordered food to be delivered for 7pm. 7:30 came around and still no food. Rang back to ask where our meal was and was told it was out for delivery. Another 10 minutes and it finally arrived 40 minutes late, cold, with the wrong rice and missing the prawn crackers that were ordered. Won't be ordering from them again.

Went in to order for myself and my parents and was served by a girl who was just so polite! Made my day being served so nicely -- And great food, of course!

The restaurant can be found in the centre of the town,just off the square. A friendly welcome awaits you as you enter a very clean and well presented dining room. The food is served very quickly and it is with out doubt the best chinese food I have tasted. Special deals are done at lunch times. So if you are in Exmouth give it a try. Highly recommended.

Lovely food. Not sure if a new chef is here but the food was a good standard. I wouldn't say the vermicelli was as thick as normal which made it a little stringy but other than that delicious.

Nice varied menu with good range of set price options. Peking duck especially yummy. We always get good service when we go.

My friend and I went to the bamboo looking for some normal chinese food.What we had was everything but chinese (and good). The asparagus and noodle soup tasted like water with some more water in it. The wun Kung (spice stir fried vegetables) was about some nearly raw vegetables drowned into a raspberry cordial-like souce. Apart from this very bad culinary experience the service was extremely nice. Still wondering how they're yet working.

Very clean and good atmosphere, Meal was Excellent and hot, Staff were friendly and helpful, would recommend to anybody who loves Chinese food.

We have been here too many times to mention so I thought I'd write at least one review. We tend to keep to the same starter (mixed starters), then a quarter duck and then a main meal with one rice between us. Never had a bad meal. Price is very good around £60 for the two of us with 2 drinks each too.

We have eaten here on many occasions and it never disappoints. Are here and enjoyed the early bird special as it offers great food at a great price! All the staff are very efficient and friendly !

This is a well established Chinese restaurant, which to my knowledge, has been there for over 25years.Clean, nice and friendly, the same waiter Andy has been there for over 20yrs!The menu is extensive but at lunchtime on Thursdays and Saturdays, there is a cheap lunchtime menu with a discount for pensioners.The food is very good and served with a flair.There is a good bar with reasonably priced.If ever in Exmouth, do try this place.

Went for a early meal with our 2 young boys 9 and 12 and took advantage of their early bird offer. We had lovely 2 x sweet and sour chicken and a chicken in black been sauce with rice and noodles. The portions were big so there was plenty to go round. The service was very quick which was good as we had a train to catch. It was a lovely ending to a great day at the beach.

Delicious food. Freshly cooked. Fantastic flavours. Had Peking Gourmet for two. Will enjoy the rest for dinner tomorrow!

Went hear early evening and ordered from the early bird menu (a range of about 12 dishes for £5.95 each all of which come with rice) - being well priced and knowing we tend to eat large portions between the two of us we ordered 4 dishes altogether. We had s&s chicken, king po chicken, beef in yellow bean sauce, crispy chilli beef - all delicious - we only needed to order 2 or possibly 3 as a stretch as the portions were massive - all delicious, plenty of meat and flavour. Thanks for a great meal and we will be back soon!

Had a very enjoyable meal. Came in quite late and we're lucky to get a table. Clearly very busy and some of the previous comments do mention service issues but we could all the staff very friendly but they certainly work hard! Food was very good and plentiful. Chilli squid delicious, as were sweet chilli king prawns. Also try the Chinese beer Sunlik which went down well.Prices reasonable too. Will go back.

Penultimate evening with my folks. They took me for a Chinese. I've been here before but not for some time. There was a party of adults with young children in the restaurant- this made the atmosphere somewhat loud! The service was good as they were attentive although as the restaurant began to get busy service began to slow. The food was excellent and I couldn't find any grease. I did however find that they have skimped on one thing. Last time I was there they would bring warm cotton towels to refresh and clean. It now comes in a prepackaged manufactured sealed bag and is more like a warm wet wipe!!!!!!!

Me and my partner always order from here and never fails and has never made me ill which others in Exmouth has before on their duck! I recommend the curry sauce which tastes amazing and is obviously homemade unlike powdered crap you get from most, and the hot and sour meat soup is to die for if you like soups

Visited on a Friday evening with the restaurant moderately busy. The restaurant is quite modern in style and has ample room between tables. The menu is extensive and very well priced. The only downside for us was the waiting staff as we were served by 4 different people of differing attitude towards the job in hand. If it hadn't been for that aspect the experience would have been much improved as the food was superb.
