Food is very good, We had chicken with ginger and spring onions, crispy duck and pineapple, coconut rice, and mixed veg in black bean sauce. The veg in sauce was very good indeed. Service was reasonable, but it was a little cold in the resteraunt. It's worth a try if you are in the area.

I had a seriously disappointing time at the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant. I ordered their take-away satay chicken, and honestly, I was shocked when I opened the container – there were just a few sad pieces of chicken in there. The beef with vegetables I got was like a game of hide-and-seek – the veggies were nowhere to be found! I even attached a photo as proof. And the fried rice? Well, let's just say it was more black than fried, and there were zero veggies. I took one bite and that was it – straight into the bin. This was definitely not the meal I was hoping for. Food straight to the bin!

Quick service is my positive, chowmein is a basic dish to get right, but this was over sauced and was supposed to be chicken but there was only a few fragments. This was a takeaway and lucky fo them I wasn't in the restaurant as this would have been sent back. We're on holiday here and would warn others to be wary, perhaps eat inside.

First of all the name on the door is Phoenix not as advertised, this place is so disappointing. we had to send simple cooked food back as the noodles tasted burnt, and unfit for consumption. The hygiene in the establishment was poor we don’t really enjoy eating our food surrounded by cobwebs and filth, my only regret is that we didn’t walk out to find another restaurant. Lesson learnt.

Came here instead of queuing for over an hour for sea front fish and chips. Walked in with my 2 and a half year old on a very warm evening the day the red arrows did their display, and were greeted well and told the wait for take away was 15mins, so we decided to order and have a drink at the bar. Staff were friendly and even gave a complementary free drink for my little boy while we waited. S and Sour Prawn balls were actually the best I've had in a long time and less than the cost of my local Honiton Chinese Take away, my wife had Chicken chow mien and didn't enjoy it but I thought it was nice enough and even our picky eating little boy ate it, so for me that scores high.

During folk week we decided a meal in a restaurant would make a nice change from festival, take-away food and unfortunately, as it turned out, we chose the Hong Kong on Sidmouth's Main Street. It wasn't the best start having chosen a different white wine each neither wine was properly cold and both tasted suspiciously similar! When my partner politely queried whether a mistake had been made in the pouring we were shown two different bottles from the fridge and rather than accuse the proprietor of lying we let it drop. When our food arrived the chow mien had no ingredients other than noodles, the egg fried rice had so little egg that you had to search for it, the tofu ginger and spring onions did not have spring onions but large quantities of large white cooking onions and the prawn dish was really bland and tasted as if it had been stir fried in warm tap water! When we queried the lack of spring onions we were told that they had run out and were using ordinary onions instead. We said that we should have been told this and they said they would deduct the cost from the bill. We wanted a good tasty meal, not a discount on the bill. It was a really dismal, tasteless meal and as we paid the (discounted) bill instead of apologies we were told not to come again by the very rude and surly proprietor. We would never eat here again and recommend it be avoided by anyone who enjoys good food. After this we went back to festival take away food which was far and away superior to the Hong Kong restaurant.

Went for an evening meal with my wife while in sidmouth, should have heard the alarm bells as only one other couple were there when we arrived. We ordered sweet & sour chicken, salt and pepper prawns and the house special chow mein. Both the chicken and prawns were in a batter that had visited the deep frier at least twice the chicken probably more, we both love prawns but left about half of them, same with the chicken. they were hard and so crunchy they shattered when bitten. The chow mein was edible but not overly tasty. When the waitress came to remove the left overs I made a polite and specific complaint about the food which I heard her convey to who I assume is the proprieter, his gesture was a could not care less shoulder shrug which indicated he was fully aware of the rubbish he was purveying. No effort to come and explain or apologise. The service by the waitress was friendly and efficient.Clearly we will never eat here again and I would not reccomend it to anyone.

Although we live locally, we haven't yet eaten in this restaurant but decided to try it for a takeaway tonight. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The shrimp curry was awful, probably the worst I've ever had. I counted only 8 prawns and the sauce was very bland and watery. There was also nothing special about the 'house special' egg foo yung. Instead of being a whole omelette, it comprised strips of omelette, some of which were burnt, with some pieces of dried-up pork and chicken. The szechuan roast pork was so salty, it was almost inedible. The Singapore rice noodles lacked spice - no chilli that I could see - and the bits of pork in it were dry and overcooked. On a more positive note, the duck with ginger and spring onions was good although I would have preferred the duck to be served in slices rather than chopped into pieces - but that's just my personal preference. The fried rice was also good and we did get some complimentary prawn crackers. Overall though the food was definitely not worth the £30 we paid and we will not be using this restaurant again.

This was our 4th Visit, the first visit a few years ago was excellent, being Vegans, they did one little adaptation i.e. in the Sweetcorn Soup, instead of egg they replaced it with Tofu. Sadly the subsequent visits have not been that great, the Chef refuses to put Tofu in instead of egg and on our last visit we asked for Mushroom Fried Rice without Egg. This is the worrying part, we were told that everything is pre-prepared and therefore they cannot omit the egg (she said it was a powder which contained egg). We were astonished as we have been told many times, you should not reheat rice. After the waitress had a moment, she said they could make us a fresh portion of rice and just put mushrooms in. It was a disappointing experience, they have had 3 chances to serve us a nice meal but 3 times we have been sadly disappointed. We definitely will not be visiting again when we are in Sidmouth in a few weeks.

Had a meal for two tonight, the service was very good with the waiter but the chow mien was burnt, with black burns on the mushrooms and bean sprouts. I complained to the waiter, who acknowledged my complaint, then the bill came with the chow mien sitting there. Out came the manager who explained I was tasting soy sauce ( forget the years of Chinese meal eating I think I know the difference between burnt and soy, or any other kind of taste),and that the chow mien was made in accordance with their cooking regime...What a shame. I have now lost confidence that if things go wrong, they wont be acknowledged or put right... hay ho... would have loved to have been a regular.

We had eaten in the previously named Jade Wok and had enjoyed the experience. as we had friends visiting from Derby and not a nice experience the last time they visited and we chose the restaurant, we figured we would play safe with a curry. And new years day we did not want any more Turkey lolSo we had a pint or two locally and headed in. We were greeted by a very friendly staff member and seated.Drinks order given then after a few minutes the waiter returned to take our food orders. The menu was as average Chinese menu so we soon picked our requirements for the 5 of us. What did surprise us especially after reading that all food was cooked fresh and a wait could be expected was that our food came out within probably 5 minutes and before our drinks!!!All I can say about the food is it was OK. My friend and I has Red Thai Pork curry and he was not impressed at all. I have to say the taste was again only Ok however the meat was pretty tough and the sauce wishy washy.Probably not one we would rush back to and certainly not take friends or recommendThe waiter was very friendly but seemed to be doing everything alone. Dined on a Friday evening without booking due to last minute arrangements. First visit but went on recommendation. Restaurant quite cold. Good reception and received menus quickly. Took a choice of meals, Kung po chicken, spicy beef, Crispy duck, rice etc. It was a bit bland for us and the sauces seemed thin and unsurprising. Quite a lot of onion flller used but the dishes gave us the impression that they had not come from a hot wok cooking method so they left us a bit wanting in taste and substance. The staff were friendly and looked after us well but the food was disappointing for us. Would I return, probably not until I had received a few good reports.

I took my sister to this restaurant for her birthday treat on Saturday 15th November. The food was served on cold plates and in cheap soup bowls. I had boiled rice which was like a solid rubber ball and beef curry. The beef was tough and the sauce was like an instant home pride with a gloppy consistency, but the worst thing, was that in my sisters vegetable 'chow mein' she discovered a piece of milky white, rubbery substance about the size of the palm of your hand, which for all the world looked just like a condom. On taking it up to the counter and asking what it was, the explanation that was given was that it was a Chinese lyche you can buy in morrisons. I have never seen a lyche like that in my life before. Neither of us could eat anything further after this.We had spring rolls which came with our meal that were just like you can buy from Iceland. We paid the £25 bill and I can honestly say we'll never go there again.

We had a terrible meal here. The staff were unprofessional and slow and we were sat down at a dirty table which took 5 minutes to be cleared. Our drinks order was wrong, and the food was slow to arrive. The food itself was bland and over cooked, the black bean sauce burnt, and we found pieces of onion skin in the sweet and sour. When we finished our meal we waited 10 minutes for our plates to be cleared before giving up and going to the bar to ask to pay. We were then charged £6 too much, and had to ask them to recalculate the bill, which they admitted they had got wrong. We visited the Hong Kong as the kids decided they wanted to try Chinese and wanted to eat with chopsticks. The staff were very kind and attentive but the food was not very good at all. Equally it was a rip off (£6 for the smallest bowl of pineapple rice). We had chicken in a plum sauce which was like a turkey steak on a bed of beansprouts with bottled sauce poured on top. My husband had king prawn with cashews which he described as slimey, cooked in goose fat taste and generally yuck! My words to sum it up were KFC with supermarket chinese sauce on top. Oh and not a chopstick in sight.

Deluxe Hor D'oevre - nothing deluxe about this starter. Seaweed (shredded cabbage) chewy, spare ribs chewy, chicken satay well overcooked and spring rolls empty with a sauce inside, probably bought in bulk from a cash and carry. Main course, tasted slightly better than it looked, including, yung chow rice, rendang beef, sweet and sour chicken (Hong Kong style) and special foo yung. However, there must have been an excessive supply of onions, as it came in bulk with the Hors D'oevre and all the other dishes. I feel the quality and value for money is poor. This review is not so much about the food which was ok except for the Szechuan Mix Veg but more about receiving a wrong dish and being overcharged. Beef Curry and chips, beef was 80% grissle could only chew, Chips had to be cooked a couple of time hard in the middle and coldish. 6/10 for curry taste only. Sweet & Sour Chicken, would have been ok if the chicken came with it. By the time driver got back after nearly a 14mile round trip with the missing chicken it was not the same sitting around the table. 7/10 for eventually getting to eat the lost chicken Chicken chow mein. Daughter thought good. 8/10. After being recommended this experience should have been a lot better.
