Chips at £2.90 is decent value compared to the traditional chip shops in Sidmouth. Place seems popular as chips were decent Please note the young man is one of the most ignorant I have ever come across. No Smile, No Hello, No Thanks and No Goodbye, just salt and vinegar he asked. For customer service you should get served by the ladies and I ask the owner gives the young man training in customer service. I'll be back for a third visit soon

Always my go to for a takeaway. Staff are kind, food is great and the wait times are never too long! The prices are also really reasonable.

Waited almost 2 hours. Fair enough they told me before ordering the wait was 1hr 30. so I was prepared to wait but the food was terrible. We ordered chicken balls and they were extremely greasy and wet and very fatty. The Beansprouts tasted awful. The chicken in noodles was horrendous.. chicken was rock hard and didn’t taste right at all. This is a shame as the last time we ate here was 4 years ago and it was okay then. Obviously gone down hill and needs some work. Just upsetting to have to wait almost 2 hours for food that’s not even worth it and wasted money. Won’t be coming here again unfortunately.

For a delivered take-away meal it was really good. Person on the phone who took the order was friendly and having been told we'd be waiting an hour (peak time), it turned up in 20 minutes. Duck a little on the dry side and Singapore noodles not spicy enough for me, but overall it was great and I'd definitely order again.

Not sure the chef tastes before going on. Congealed sauces, dry meat, weird chips. Very fragranced rice. Inedible

Disgusting congealed food! Crispy chilli beef was like rubber and was in a sweet and sour sauce - chow mein was bland - chips were well Im not sure how to describe how terrible they were and chicken satay skewers were horrid and had been pre cooked and heated up. Once I had ordered my food, the chap came in that does their deliveries for them, and he was grubby. His clothes were dirty and he walks into the kitchen. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I would suggest check your food before you leave the premises. £22.60 wasted. The only thing nice was the lady who served me.

Great traditional Chinese fish and chip shop with good food, friendly service and competitive prices.

Food was very bland. The least flavorful Singapore noodles I've ever had, and chow mein with barely any bean sprouts. Quick and friendly service. Cash only, which is inconvenient and always looks dodgy IMO.

Great food, great service.. but, would be nice to know what the delivery charges are and do they charge for card payment?? The difference between the menu and what we paid was £5.80.

Always piping hot food, they got a big menu, many choices, I tried lots of them I think everyone can find food for their taste. Their chow mein beef and beef in blackbean sauce are absolutely delicious.

If I could put less then 1 star I definitely would, the whole Chinese is dry, minimal chilli on salt and chilli chicken, and has zero quality in the food, very very bad and very very expensive for the bad quality

Everything I order is excellent to above satisfactory, I would recommend and if there is a problem metion it and staff will try their upmost to correct.Busy establishment so normal for the odd mistake.Having worked in the food industry impossible for a fast takeaway service to be 100 %,but they have it pretty close.Visit regularly and have no complaints.Honest review I have had excellent food every time.

Visited twice whilst camping and thoroughly enjoyed, was a novelty to see the lady working both the seperate Chinese and fish and chip desks and everything coming out in a fast time

Had takeaway last night crispy chilli beef bright red tasteless and king prawns in black been sauce the prawns tasted fine.but the sauce was absolutely tasteless this is typical 1960s Chinese take away fine if you are drunk but if your not don’t bother

Excellent food in the 2 occasions we ate here. Parents had fish and chips, all freshly cooked said it was one if the best they had in years. We then had a Chinese meal and again very good food. Great portions. Will definately eat here again.

Just ordered a meal for family from the silver king we usually do this weekly, my sister usually gets an egg fried rice usually is totally fine but today she opened it and there was a hair on the other side of lid, we are disgusted with this

We ordered as a regular customer this evening and not told the wait would be over an hour!!! When our food arrived 1 and a half hours after order time it was so cold all the sauces were conjelied! The fooyung was watery with uncooked egg! Phoned after waiting an hour told were busy and order was on way, delivery drivers excuse 11 orders taken at once. Wont order ever again.

The vegetable pancake rolls, has nothing but bean sprouts in and they were very limited (mostly batter). The rest of the food was ok , but still very disappointed as we use often. Not sure if they have changed supplier or chief, but not happy as the remainder was goo. Disappointed.

Never been. I wrote never because I have not, but as you want me to fantastic fish and chips I do not eat them staff best ever prices so so this review is false this is what the owner wants me to say, I will not lie for them and give them 5 stars which again would be a big lie, if you look at over reviews I have done and been I tell the truth.

Really good chineese bbq ribs sweet and sour chicken chips the rice the prawn on toast you get 8 pieces in the other local Chinese you only get 4 all lovely only downside is that you have to pay for the prawn crackers I think they should be free if you spend over 20 pound

Food was disgusting, and the order completely wrong. When the staff were told that the order was wrong they laughed down the phone. Save your time and money and don’t bother eating here.

My boyfriend and I went to get a Chinese takeaway from Silver King, our evening was ruined when we returned home to find one of our meals was as dry as a bone, after ASKING for extra sauce, and one of the meals had processed chicken which was inedible. We phoned the takeaway straight away to inform them of the issue in hand, they said they would send someone straight away with extra sauce, however after waiting another 15 minutes, no one had arrived so we phoned again. This is when the staff LAUGHED down the phone to us, which was awful! We then had to drive all the way back to get a refund, in which they were rude. I would advice everyone to avoid this takeaway, otherwise you will come away feeling very disappointed and insulted.

Excellent food with good portion sizes. If it is the usual fish and chips you want then you can't go wrong here. Crispy batter and tasty fish.

We had a good takeaway from here and it wasnt full of monosodium glutamate so didnt wake up in the night needing a drink!

My partner and I each had a Chow mein on Sunday 12th May 2019. On coming to eat it we both found that half the food was piping hot whereas the other half was stone cold!!! I ate the noodles from mine but threw away all the meat as I was unwilling to risk poisoning myself. Also absolutely tasteless on top of that. It was obviously just microwaved pre prepared food. Rubbish!!!

It's OK I suppose ,but my wife finds the spring rolls greasy and inedible. Its just your basic Chinese takeaway ,but they do try. Service rapid.Food mundane but acceptable.They do a delivery service.

To be fair it is a bit up and down depending on the dish and I'm guessing who's in the kitchen but there are a number of dishes that I get consistently and they're always very enjoyable.

We have been coming here for ages. Can honestly say I've never been disappointed. Generous portions, reasonable price - I especially like the Salt & Chilli Chicken with a tub of their Sweet & Sour Sauce. Always tasty...can't understand some of the reviews on here!..it's a Chinese takeaway, and it's a good one.

We use Silver King regularly which says it all really, on the whole its mostly very good and better than most Chinese takeaways we've tried. Portions are always on the large side especially the Sweet and Sour, their Ribs are certainly more than a starter all is hot and tasty. We've worked our way through most of the menu, some dishes are certainly better than other and. we have found quality can suffer if you don't pick up your order at the time they tell you which is your fault not theirs.

We go most weeks and have a chicken curry and chicken fried rice. We have never had a bad meal. The staff are always friendly and know what we want as soon as we walk through the door. We have tried other Chinese takeaways but we can not beat Silver king.

Had a take out from here 10/8/17. If i could rate 0 I would. We had; crispy shreaded beef, sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper ribs, bbq ribs, noodles and bean sprouts, Egg fried rice, Sea weed, Chicken and sweet corn soup, It looked fine but tasted like someone had never cooked before. The only spice they seemed to use was sugar. The entire meal was almost Inedible could not recommend.

Waited for ages. The food was quite bland. Everything tasted the same apart from the duck. Would not get a takeaway from there again.

Chow Mein was absolutely disgusting. Big chunks of carrots, mushrooms and bamboo shoots. It was very watery and the taste was so salty I binned it. Be warned.

This chippy is ideal for cheap fish & chips (or Chinese) if others chippies are unavailable! Set on the lovely Sidmouth beach!

It's ok for a cheap meal on a can't be bothered day, but I have, to be honest, it's nothing to get excited about. the chips are super dry and the chicken is chewy and fatty, I will only get this if I'm skint and can't be bothered to cook, but there are definitely better places to go for Chinese locally.

There is everything you need for a takeaway, the chinese is especially good. Easy to phone your order in and then pick up.

Where do I begin with silverking, it is very much a hit and miss take away. I'll start on a high note and say the sweet and sour sauce is the best ive ever had, its sweet and thick and just fantastic. where the restaurant falls down the most is the customer service. more often than not the service is aweful. once I was left waiting to order for over 10 minutes while a man in a cowboy hat, who was manning the till, was talking to his friend about the goldfish in the display and how much he would feed them and how often. literally this went on for over 10 minutes while i was waiting at the counter to order, just left there in front of him as he chatted away ignoring me.

Reasonable size portions, seem to cook most foods to order so be patient, this is not a fast food outlet, chips are proper chips not fries.

I very rarely write reviews & when I do normally they are praiseworthy, however this establishment masquerading as a Chinese needs to be taken to task. The takeaway meal I had(didn't eat) was supposed to be Chicken sate, however it resembled something you might find outside a nightclub after a few people had 'chucked up' Yes it really was that BAD!!

Visiting Sidmouth with our family and in need of a quick bite to eat, we decided to get a Chinese Takeaway. This was one big mistake, the food was literally the worst we have ever tasted. We ordered several dishes, Crispy Chilli Beef, Beef in Black Bean Sauce, Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken with Cashew Nuts and a Special Fried Rice, Prawn Crackers and my favourite Crispy Seaweed. In hindsight the interior of the restaurant wasn't great but had the food not been so terrible that wasn't something that would have registered. As we were only 5 minutes walk away we got home and served up the food, however the seaweed didn't even make it to the plates as I tried some and couldn't even swallow it, it was absolutely vile, covered in sugar and it tasted like mouldy tea leaves or something completely alien. My husband, daughter and son dutifully sampled some thinking I had lost the plot but agreed it had to be chucked away. The rest of the food was no better I even wondered if the chicken was meat it was so slimy and had the weirdest texture. I was really hungry so went from dish to dish in the hope of something edible, The Crispy Chilli Beef was like eating fried string or straw, in truth the only things vaguely palatable were the Chinese Crackers which were ok if slightly greasy and the rice which had some degree of flavour but was not great unless you really were starving like we were.. I literally threw most of the food off my plate in the bin which is something I would never do but I was seriously worried I would be ill if I ate it. My son is 23 and eats for England, he was starving hungry but even he struggled through his plate. Normally he and my husband would help themselves to a second serving but nobody finished their first helping. We all agreed it was the worst food we had ever tasted and felt like something was genuinely wrong with it. I wish I had looked at the reviews, this is a no no, don't go there. A pricey mistake that left us hungry.

Nothing compares with this abomination of a take-away. It was, without doubt, the worst food I have ever encountered - worse than dirty tripe in Zimbabwe, green gunge in rural Yemen, or rat sausage in Siberia. The grudging service, the general state of hygiene of the premises (that part visible to customers) and the filthy hands and shirt of the owner/manager alerted us to the possibility that we might be disappointed, but by then we had already paid. In any event, nothing could have prepared us for what followed. Imagine ordering three different dishes - crispy chili beef, cashew chicken and barbecue spare ribs - and finding that they were all but indistinguishable: a few miserly strips of half-raw pork fat drowning in a glutinous soup of watered-down plum jam, masses of added sugar and enough industrial strength food colouring to leave our fingers stained for four days. Never mind, we said, "We'll fill up on the egg fried rice" - only to discover that this was nothing more than foul smelling grease with some brown rice (no egg) at the bottoom of the (leaking) tupperware.TripAdvisor should instal sirens, whistles and flashing red lights to alert anyone clicking on this hell-hole that it is no ordinary sub-standard, rip-off takeaway. It is an experimental chemical weapons factory, churning out substances best suited to bombing ISIS with.

It is so refreshing to be able to order either Chinese or English food from such friendly staff. The service is brilliant, and the food matches the service. All of this at reasonable prices- perfect!!

Been to this Chinese many times and have had good food from there in the past. But this time the crispy beef had no flavour of beef at all the satay chicken was really spicy and no free prawn crackers?!!! I would not recommend to anyone to be honest. A real shame.

We visit every year for Chinese to take down to the beach for the folk week procession. Good value, reasonable service speed and yummy food! Staff are often abrupt but are very efficient with orders to get them out as fast as possible. Pretty standard take away Chinese that I can't really fault as we have returned for the last 7 years!

This Chinese serves some of the best food in town.The fish is particularly good so if your looking for value for money food give this takeaway a try.

Never had a poor meal over a number of years. Have always had duck fried rice and sweet & sour chicken and they have been consistently good.

The guy behind the counter could hardly be bothered to take our order and was almost asleep. When the food came the women who called out our number was rude and generally unpleasant.Every dish was cheap tasting, watery and over salty. This was without doubt the worst Chinese meal we have ever attempted to eat. Avoid at all costs.

Takeaway in the town so popular if no transport.I had the chicken with plum sauce..the chicken was nicely cooked but the plum sauce was watery and sickly sweet with too much pineapple thrown in, probably to bulk up the meal.Wouldn't be in a hurry to have this dish again...I would try a different Chinese takeaway.

Just don't. We have tried before and hated it - synthetic, chemical tasting Chinese food at it's very worst. We thought it deserved another try and it really hasn't changed. Everything in synthetic sauces in bright colours - no differentiation between sweet and sour or chilli. Very salty, and nothing good to say at all. It's not even cheap!If you want decent chinese in the Simdouth area, you'll have to look to Newton Poppleford

Having recently started a new job in Sidmouth I started hunting around the town for a places to grab a sandwich and other lunch choices. I stumbled across the Silver King one day after popping into tesco express next door and noticed their lunch menu in the window. There are around 30-35 dishes to choose from all priced at £3.70 and come with egg fried rice or chips. This week I have tried chicken sechuan (sorry I don't think this is spelt right) and chicken in pineapple, both were very tasty and a good generous helping served piping hot to order. If you're fed up of sandwiches and rolls etc then give this a go. I'm going to try the beef next week!

I've never written a review before, but this takeaway has prompted me to ensure people are aware of our feelings.Customer service was so poor. Firstly the lady who answered the phone couldn't understand me, so she put me onto her English colleague who's first sentence was "what's your problem".This should have rung alarm bells, however I proceeded with our order all the same. Was told 45 mins to an hour for delivery. No problems, it was a Saturday night after all.After 1 hour 20 mins, I called and happily requested a rough eta for our food. I'm never rude on these occasions as I wouldn't want to delay the food further. Unfortunately the response was rather short and lacked any form of customer service. "Be soon, we're busy tonight" I probed a little further and just asked for a rough idea of how soon and the response was exactly the same.On arrival of the food we eagerly opened the plastic receptacles to be confronted with a msg saturated disaster of a concoction. Sweet and sour sauce was everywhere. Even on a special fried rice!! Who does that?With trepidation we served the the meal between the four of us and it simply wasn't edible.My wife, two children and I attempted to eat it, but none of us was successful.In conclusion, should you ever be in Sidmouth and fancy a Chinese, I would consider very carefully your choice of takeaway.

I have been a customer at Silver King for years and after going this evening I shall not be going again. I found a staple in my food so I took it back and the way they treated me was disgusting. They were blaming everyone but themselves and accusing me of making it up. I took the remainder of my food and staple in to them for proof and as I had eaten most of the chicken they did not want to give my money back. I explained to them that I did not look through my food before eating it so I wasn't aware of it until it was in my mouth. I went in with it just to let them know so it doesn't happen with anyone again and then they blamed me for it. It's usually really good but after being spoken to so rudely I shall not be going again.

Silver King is a Chinese takeaway as well as a chip shop. We were recommended it by a lady eating her chips on the seafront. Went along and took away 3 cod and (loads of) chips. Yummy.
