Fui a tomar una taza de café revitalizante después de visitar el Museo de la Vida de Lakeland. Cálida bienvenida, delicioso bollo de café y queso. Volvería a llamar si en la zona.

Suggested by partner’s dad who is a regular here and Friend of the art gallery; my first visit and it was lovely. We both had the chorizo, kale & butter bean stew (with bread) which was a reasonable £5.95. The service was a little slow but this is more a sign of fresh prep than tardiness. The stew was wholesome with good chunks of chorizo (rather than the usual barely perceptible bits), healthy slices of kale and plenty of butter beans. The stew was clearly fresh made with a good onion & tomato base. I’d have preferred a little spicier, but recognise this isn’t for all so playing safe is better. I could have also done with a little more too. However these are minor quibbles. Finished with a visit to the upstairs gallery. ✅✅

My dad and I had lunch here after visiting the Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry. It's all on the Abbot Hall site. The menu is not huge but there is a good selection plus a vegetarian option. Everything is freshly made to order. Good selection of tea and coffee. Large portion size, good value for money.

Even though it was late in the day right before the Easter break we were still served our afternoon tea with care and generous hospitality. On a lovely spring afternoon we also had the option of alfresco seating in a lovely garden. Our food and drinks were delicious and just as requested.

If you need a cuppa while you're at the Abbot Hall Gallery, the Bakestone is well worth the time to sit down and refresh yourself. Friendly staff and excellent sweets. Do try it.

Despite arriving at 5 pm when the staff were clearing away and preparing to shut the doors, I was greeted warmly and provided with an excellent cup of Earl Grey tea, and a mouthwatering ginger flapjack. Just what I needed to restore my energy after viewing the Gallery.

We didn't come in for a meal or a drinks but on a scorching hot day, just called in for an ice cream or lolly. We chose tubs of hand made ice creams from the freezer, a gingerbread and caramel crunch, - delicious! As it was so hot outside we chose to sit at a table to eat them and the waitress spotted us and came over with proper spoons rather than see us struggle with the small plastic things from the tub. We thought that was a nice touch, and good customer service.

Stopped for a hot drink and the most amazing homemade sponge cake in the world after visiting the excellent Lakeland Museum. The cake was made using a local recipe by a local lady, so miles were minimal. Lovely friendly staff.

Completely restructured after the floods to provide a fresh and light layout to match the menu. Relatively simple meals beautifully prepared in an historic building which is part of the delightful art gallery and museum.

Went for a visit to the art gallery and called in for lunch. A great range of loose leaf teas, and a simple but great menu. Good quality simple food. I had a soup and sandwich - chicken and tarragon mayo sandwich and roasted cauliflower soup, both were delicious!!! My wife had a jacket potato which was again tasty! The inclusion of the little tea timer for the tea was a great touch and added to the theatre. The mocha cake was amazing and my wife loved her scone which was freshly baked. Free WiFi and a pleasant place to sit and relax for a while! All in all a great little cafe! Will be back!!!

The menu here is relatively limited. We arrived at around 11.10 one morning and asked if it was possible to have a sandwich. We were told that sandwiches were not served until 12.00. This seemed silly as there was no-one else in the café at the time and the two members of staff on duty seemed to have very little to fill their time. It would have been good customer service if someone had said 'well, we don't normally serve until noon but we can make you something if you are hungry'. We ordered a tea and a coffee. The tea was dreadfully weak and the coffee was not good. Not cheap though. Would not visit again.

We only wanted a coffee and a cake as it was only 11.15 AM but had to queue for 20 minutes behind people ordering hot food and spending ages deciding what they wanted at the last minute Nice stuff but it needs organising a lot better Guess as its volunteer run it depends very much on what the staffing is on the day They need a separate area for those just having coffee etc rather than a meal

Tried the drive thru...waited and waited was nobody home?, Was it closed? Reversed out and entered the shop and waited at the counter and waited and waited....3 or 4 staff just chatting away oblivious to customers. 17:00 pm on Saturday. Outstanding service.

Lovely setting to relax and enjoy the views having lunch or just a drink. A few had lunch said was nice. Me personally thought expensive for soup but enjoyed my coffee. Worth it for the views.

Good location, pleasant staff but expensive for poor quality coffee and stale cake. Was offered a refund on the cake which I declined.
