Had the two course Sunday lunch offer. Firstly, starters were frozen and not homemade.(chicken goujons and calamari,) Main course confit of beef. The 3 of us that had beef all left it due to this being more like overcooked stewing beef squashed into a round shape. This looked very unappealing and then dropped to bits when you tried to eat it. The small fish and chips were OK. After asking the waitress to take the plate away as it wasn't very nice she walked across the restaurant and continually stared over at our table with disdain,to the point I asked her why she was staring. We were offered a replacement which we turned down. When we left we were asked if we would return to which we said no and then got a lecture on how everyone had liked the food. Many better places to eat in Skipton without visiting here.

Delicious afternoon tea with amazing views of the canal and barges going past. Sausage roll, pie, sandwiches and cakes that just melted in your mouth!

Very poor quality afternoon tea . Would have been 2 stars but for the managers pleasant greeting downstairs - taking us to restaurant and wishing us a lovely afternoon - was excellent and the high quality furnishings and views speak for themselves . There my enjoyment stopped unfortunately. Very Poor quality sandwiches (Tuna and ham - no trimmings or salad maybe cucumber or tomatoes would have been a good idea ) I cannot believe any of the tasteless cakes were homemade nor the pasty looking sausage roll . The pork pie was pleasant . We had to ask for a pot of tea half way through as this was forgotten . No one asked about allergies or whether we were vegetarian. People are very experienced now in “a good “ afternoon tea as they are offered in many places. Sadly this was poor quality with very little thought put into it . A good hotel restaurant should be able to provide high quality home made food at these prices . Very disappointed. Would have explained this at the time but wasn’t asked A local who will not return and will not recommend

Dinner was very good. The lamb and the haddock risotto was well cooked and tasty. The service was good. The location of the conservatory next to the canal creates a nice ambiance. Breakfast, however, was an unpleasant experience because our table was not properly cleaned when we went for breakfast at 9:30. Some dishes were not clean. Food was served quickly even though it was busy. It was tasty enough.

I enjoyed dinner and breakfast here during an overnight stay at the Rendezvous Hotel. The service was friendly and efficient and despite a large private dinner in an adjacent room my meal was served promptly. My table was a bit cold and draughty due to storm damage from storm Arwen which meant the conservatory was boarded up. Excellent buffet breakfast with delicious full English freshly cooked to order.

We ate as here as 2 couples on Sunday evening and had a great experience. The service was fine and the food delicious. Well presented and very tasty. (However, our friends ate here on the following Monday and told us it was a disaster - hardly any dishes available. We have only scored this on our personal experience.)

They accept AMEX. A basic restaurant offering mostly local produce; the crab comes from the Irish sea. The menu is limited but balanced and .well informed for allergens. One of the few places where the staff understand what a 'blue' cooked steak is and the chef prepares it accordingly. Sourced locally the piece of steak was tasty, fine grained and smooth textured and available with variety of sauces; but did not take up on any sauce options - why spoil a piece of fillet! It fully complemented the La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza 2010 Reserva Rioja. The Thai crab starter was was delicious without being overpowered by the subtle use of spices and chilli and paired well with the Chablis Vaillons Premier Cru 2014 from Dampt. The mushroom risotto was one everyone had to taste to share the flavours and also complemented the Chablis. The salmon and sea bass were well prepared and nicely paired with the Chablis. The young staff were very good, pleasant and accommodating.

We dined in the restaurant on two nights and cannot praise the quality of the food highly enough. Add to that the wonderful views across the canal and on to the hillside and you have a great dining experience. Try to book early and request a front row table in the conservatory.

One cannot fault the location of this restaurant - right on the side of the canal. You can look at the water with occasional barges, swans and ducks wandering by and enjoy the rural landscape. Food in my opinion was good, though not outstanding. I thought breakfast could be significantly improved - scrambled egg was not the greatest and there was no vegetarian sausage opton. Service was absolutely fine - friendly and helpful.

We were staying in the hotel. The breakfasts were very good and plentiful, plus there was a pretty good choice. The evening meals varied a little. My companion had two super meals but I had two somewhat overcooked meals, though tasty. Actually enjoyed the evening experience. Staff very good at both breakfast and in the evening. We were actually pleasantly surprised by the prices. The Prosecco was possibly the best I've tried.

After reading reviews and seeing the menu decided to book a table for dinner Initially thought I’d gone in some time machine; bar was busy with a large group obviously staying at the hotel. Went through to the restaurant and seated in a separate bit of the restaurant which was relaxed overlooking the canal. The menu is good, with a good range of options including a separate vegan menu. The service could not be faulted. The food arrived and was as equally as good- leading to a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Pleasantly surprised- definitely worth a visit

I had one dinner at The Baby Swan while staying at the Rendevous Hotel. I was seated in the enclosed outer courtyard overlooking the canal, beautiful and with wonderful twinkling lights accentuating the structure. My waiter was extremely attentive and the food was by far the best I had in a week in the UK. I had the chicken liver pate (made onsite) for an appetizer and the incredible Skipton shepherd's pie with spicy parsnip mash for the main. I'm trying to figure out how to recreate that shepherd's pie back in the U.S. The meal was the highlight of my stay at the Rendevous.

The conservatory at the Baby Swan proved a great venue for a meal, with an interesting 'living flame' gas fire providing a focal point (though the warmth it supplied meant it soon needed to be turned down), as we ate on a wild and wet November evening. The food was very good and the choice wide. The staff were attentive and helpful turning a meal into a very satisfying experience. Breakfast the next morning was hearty and well prepared and it was lovely to look out onto the fast flowing canal and the fell-side beyond where sheep were grazing and rabbits hopping about.

I was warned to expect a delay, because many of my fellow-guests had ignored their booked times, and had all arrived at once.As it happened, I was seated immediately and with a barely-noticeable delay, my wine and food orders were taken. I did not have to wait long for either. The tables in the canalside conservatory have pleasant views and would be very nice indeed in good weather, which sadly I did not have. It was very comforting to have the hillside views, to see the rain beating onto the canal and to hear it drumming on the roof, yet to feel warm and cosy inside. Not at all unpleasant. The menu has a slightly dated feel about it, but you dont mind in this slightly dated old hotel. I enjoyed the prawn cocktail and shepherd's pie. Wine list is quite varied with a range of prices starting very reasonably. All the staff were polite and friendly, yet speedy and efficient. With a few touches this restaurant could be great. It lacks a certain finesse and the menu could do with an overhaul, but perhaps on reflection it is right for this hotel in this setting.

There are lovely views of the surrounding hills and you feel well away from the main roads. There was a busy feel to the place for dinner. I guess most of the clients are hotel guests but it feels like a proper restaurant. The menu was varied and the food nicely presented and tasty. And please don't ever stop doing the tiffin, it is the best on the planet.

On arrival the pub does not inspire confidence in the quality of food - but it was really very good. I was dubious about the sizes of sunday roasts after reading a previous review - and to be fair, the plates do not arrive loaded with masses of veg or mash. However, we all left feeling satisfied and it really felt like well prepared, high quality food. The steak and ale pie, and steak and ale yorkie had the same filling, which was superb.
