The Avon Causeway in Christchurch

Really warm and welcoming. Lovely food and nice rooms.

We used this hotel in preparation for a flight out of Bournemouth airport, which we had to cancel. However we elected to utilise the hotel booking and were pleasantly surprised by the service and assistance received. Very helpful and professional staff. We will be using it again.

As always, very good service from staff and good food. Cannot comment on rooms as only a regular lunchtime visit, where the friendly staff and food keep us coming back.

Lovely setting, local beers and a good food selection. Staff were warm and friendly. Well worth a visit. Option to book a Pullman train carriage for special functions.

As regular work travellers we find ourselves in cold unwelcoming hotels. Avon causeway was far from this with the warm welcome from Sarah we knew we were staying somewhere different to where we usually stay. Lunch was amazing so we booked for dinner too (something we rarely do in hotels). Dinner was incredible and this is where we met Amanda. Incredible host who couldn't do more for us if she tried. It was amazing and I certainly will be returning with my family for a leisure break. It's all the small touches that make working away from home so much better. Thank you Amanda & team.

We attended for mothers day, the breakfast and service was fantastic. We will definitely be back in the near future.

Lovely room - clean linen and plentiful hot water. Everything looked and even smelled clean. Food very good and friendly staff. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Fantastic welcome and service during our (2 adults and one dog) stay. Unique and interesting history to this hotel. Room was a bit of a squeeze with having dog and en-suite on the small size. We're an elderly couple and could manage stairs but don't think there's a lift if disability or mobility issues necessitate use of such. Some nice additions in room like bottled water and dog biscuits as well as some for the humans! Very comfortable bed, nice bedlinen and towels. Well lit bathroom.

The place to stay in Christchurch. Excellent service and staff. Great breakfast and "pub" food. Free spacious parking. We loved every aspect of our 3 night at the Avon.

Situated close to Bournemouth airport, this Inn is perfect for an overnight stay before catching the early morning flight. For a fee, you can also leave your your car whilst away. The food is great traditional Pub Grub. Staff are also very friendly.

As usual good food and good service. Seemed to be short staffed as the 2 front of house people were rushed off their feet at times. Menu could do with an update.

This was my first stay at the Avon Causeway and found the location ideal for being close to Bournemouth yet still with a peaceful vibe. Plenty of parking and the service from arrival to departure was superb. The room was a good size and very clean with good facilities.

Had Sunday roast. Brilliant service. Meals looked delicious. I opted for chicken it looked a lot on the plate but it was all bone no breast meat. It was strange as I seemed to have half a chicken but it turned out to be a wing and a leg with not a lot on them. I would recommend the pork or beef instead. The pork was advertised as with crackling but it was missing. On the whole the meal tasted great.

We had a big family meal here today and the service & food was excellent. Our server (Flynn I believe) did an excellent job catering to us all. It is not easy serving a large group, but he did a great job and the food was excellent. There was no long wait and all round a great trip! Please thank your staff for us, they deserve the recognition.

My husband and I and 2 dogs had a lovely 3 day holiday. 15 mins by car to dog friendly beaches. Hotel is very dog orientated with treats at every meal. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant ( separate area) Wood at side of car park for comfort visits. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Milk in rooms in small thermos flasks. Restaurant menu has a good range of tasty food not just 'pub grub'

Lovely place a regular. Great food.

The room was a little dark and small but sufficient for one night. The bed was quite hard (not just firm) and could definitely benefit from a good topper or mattress replacement. The ensuite shower room was again small but had a good shower. A standard cooked breakfast and orange juice was included in the price, although you had to pay extra for the slightly larger one, however only tea or basic coffee was included, no cereal, fruit, or toast except in the cooked breakfast, no toast and marmalade. You could order from the menu but at an extra cost. It's possible we didn't make the best choice but the evening meal the night before was ok, but certainly nothing to rush back for. The staff were very good.

Sunday lunch, food was tasty but not very hot, beef was very overcooked. Kids enjoyed the little playground.

Only went for dinner with friends and it was very enjoyable, food was great, staff were obliging, all round a lovely evening.

Went for food, was incredibly disappointed at quality and price. Charging nearly £20 for one burger is outrageous for something that isn't even special. I really felt ripped off. No side salad, no coleslaw, no effort to make it look nice at all, just a burger slapped together with some chips chucked on the side. The tastiest thing was the BBQ sauce but we could tell that wasn't even fresh. The waiter was also incredible strange. All in,

Really nice hotel, great location, literally 5 mins from BOH airport. Lovely surroundings. Staff were really nice. Excellent food for dinner. The room was a bit small, but it was all we needed for a 1 night stay.

We had such a lovely stay at The Avon Causeway. 10 minutes into Christchurch and right on the edge of the New Forest, it's a great location for a short break. The staff were great and we had a decent night's sleep despite worries about the road nearby. The room was clean and comfortable. Great food and loved the Butcombe beer. Very dog friendly too! Hope to return and explore a bit more.

Great overnight stay at this lovely pub. Extremely convenient for the airport, 7 mins by taxi. Staff very friendly & helpful & food nice too. Comfortable room with beautiful’Bramley’ toiletries! Will definitely use again!!

Great stay. Staff provided brilliant service and were very friendly. We had dinner and breakfast at the pub and food was lovely. Rooms were good but I gave them a 4 as bathroom was clean but a little tired. Would stay again.

Our room (9) was rather in need of update with a water stain above the bed. It also backed onto the A338 making it rather noisy .

Stayed here several times now whilst visiting family. Great hotel in a fantastic location. The staff are always very polite and helpful. Great breakfasts. Rooms always tidy and clean.

Just a flying visit, but what a welcoming place to visit. So when you struggle to find that place to go that just feels cosy, I didn't have time to grab any food but the staff are very welcoming.

Quick and easy check in, with a friendly, helpful lady. There had been a mix up and we had been given the wrong timings for check in, however everything was quickly sorted. We were given a permit for our car which we left while we were away and a “grab and go” style breakfast which was much appreciated. The room had everything we needed for our one night stay, the filter coffee and fresh milk were nice touches.

This place is a super find, the staff were very accommodating and we were well served. The room was exceptionally clean and functional, the food, evening meals and breakfast, was very good value for money. We will be returning.

I booked my family in to 3 rooms for the Saturday so we could celebrate my birthday and it was immediately evident we were going to be well looked after by the people at the hotel. A nice touch was the flask with fresh milk for tea in our rooms instead of those sanitized pots of milk. The service level was very good without being overbearing and everyone enjoyed the food. Maybe the chef could have been a little more generous with the breakfast avocado but that's a small point. Rooms were of a good size for a short stay and well serviced but you might want to arrange a larger room if you stayed a week. Shower was great. The bar area and restaurant felt cozy and welcoming which is just what I wanted. There is a mixture of different armchairs, some a little worn but we actually liked the coziness of that bar area. Our Golden Retriever received lots of attention and some special treats from Amanda the manager which she loved. Opposite the hotel is a never ending forest to walk your dog, or just walk in. Yes, I would recommend the Avon Causeway Hotel if you want to visit this area, it's in a quiet spot but in a good location for Christchurch, the New Forest, Moors Valley country park etc and we will certainly look forward to another stay when the weather is warmer to visit the coast.

No WiFi available, which is very disappointing when you are on business. Both main course choice and cheese board not available from daily menu, which is poor. Not willing/able to split food and accommodation bill on leaving.

Limited menu, short staffed. One meal wasn’t cooked properly had to send it back. All in all a poor birthday lunch with friends. Very disappointing after some good meals there at Avon Causeway.

I have previously stayed at another Butcome hotel and I was very happy to find this location even better. The food was amazing (breakfast and dinner), the staff were very friendly and accommodating, the room was very clean with a very comfortable bed. In particular, I found the location both out-of-the-way and yet close enough to the town I was visiting. I will definitely stay here again.

Perfect location for our needs. The room was great with a comfortable bed and a really good shower.

Brilliant place, friendly staff, all of them, no complaints. Quirky different food, great beer. Dont stay here if you are looking to compare it to a bland national chain. Stay here if you want a real country pub room experience. It is a great place and I have recommended it to many

I loved eating and drinking in this pub 30 years ago when I lived in the area and our trip back did for an overnigh stay not disappoint. A really lovely place, just off the Wessex Way, next to Bournemouth Airport and a stone's throw from the town centre and beaches, it has parking, great food, lovely staff and very comfortable, spotless rooms.

Only stayed for one night but very pleasant. Room clean & comfortable, staff friendly & efficient and a delicious breakfast on the morning we left. Would definitely return when we're next in the area.

A very enjoyable and memorable time was had by all at our family Christmas 'Do'...still talking about it! The food was absolutely delicious, all staff were friendly and attentive and we loved the Railway theme which made everything extra special. Our rooms were spot on. Have been to Avon Causeway few times and usually very good but on this occasion I think they probably were short staffed particularly in the kitchen. Chips cold and presentation poor. Despite that serving staff did their best and were friendly as usual.

The food and service were outstanding, and I can't wait to return! We visited on a Wednesday, and thanks to the app, we received a 25% discount on our meals, which was clearly explained to us. The staff was fantastic!

Great location and nice place to stay, however there were some issues when we stayed: No hot water in men’s toilets and hand dryer lasted less than 2 seconds Several meals and wines shown on menu were not available Full English breakfast was NOT included in price (supplement payable) Early breakfast was NOT available despite clearly being stated on the welcome note in the room….. chef said ‘No’ ! Coffee and tea in room but you have to ask for milk at the bar. Lastly they add a service charge to the bill which is relatively normal however the service was pretty poor given the above!! 5/10

Judging by the good reviews looks like we were unlucky! Booked a table for the family for just after 1pm ordered food shortly after, 40 mins later still nothing. Kids were very hungry especially my 3 year old who was getting pretty upset at this point. Asked the waiter how much longer it will be only to be told they had overbooked by also using the train carriage out the front but not to worry ours is being platted up. Another 20 mins goes past and kids are now so hungry they are crying so an hour after we ordered I asked again only to be told "the chef can't say when your food will be with you". Don't appreciate being lied to to be honest and not even as much as an appologie from the staff. So with that we just left, went to arboro lounge in ringwood which when it comes to service could teach this place a thing or to to be honest. A real shame overall as the food did actually look good and Judging by the good reviews it probably would have been a good Sunday lunch if they hadn't had bitten off more than they could chew by overbooking. Appreciate they were busy and want book tables up for business but they clearly couldn't handle it. To be honest the most annoying part was the lack of service or appologie even when we said we were leaving. Won't be going back there what a shame!

Staff busy flirting with each other by the glass washer leaving one person to serve. Limited lunch menu and the slow service meant we only stopped for a drink. Shame as the place has real potential, just get some staff that are eager to put some money in your till

We received a very warm welcome and comprehensive information regarding accessibility if we needed to get in after the pub is closed. The room was spotless, warm and comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate any needs we had. Breakfast was first class with a full and varied menu. We would love to stay here again.

Old Hurn railway station with tons of railwayania including pullman coach and shunting engine. Very kind , helpful staff. Gorgeous food for breakfast and evening meal. We went for breakfast today with our car club. Location is good and easy to find. Interior is lovely. I hadn't been for many moons and the refurb and transformation was wonderful. Plenty of space but cosy at the same time. Food. As we were arriving as a club we were asked to pre-order beforehand. Not unreasonable. However, it seems, the kitchen had cooked well in advance without seeing if our numbers had changed on arrival ( as it happens we did have a few drop outs). Before we had seated properly food was being brought to the tables. Many dishes were, at best, lukewarm, others cold. Some items, such as eggs, were very overcooked too and had obviously been sitting around waiting. Pricing is perhaps a little steep, but you don't mind that if what you are served is good, hot and enjoyable. Would we go back? No. Disappointed. 😔

Lovely countryside old-fashioned pub. Fireplace, clean, spacious . Service is lovely and friendly, food delicious and they make lovely coffee as well as good cold beer

Saturday lunch. We have taken to dropping in to the Avon Causeway for lunches. It is very handy for the New Forest. The staff are always cheerful and helpful and the food is well priced, interesting and good quality and value. Thank you all very much and a Happy New Year.

Well appointed rooms, lovely staff, such a friendly experience.

Even tho I used to clean the rooms I expect they have changed so I can’t rate them as I don’t no x The food was a disappointment steak was to blue! It was fatty and chewy but I suppose that’s what you get when all they have to offer is rump! The main attraction wasn’t available, we had the calamari and it was really over done and my burger was over cooked and chewy didn’t help that the land lady dropped my husbands plate all over him but in spite of all of that the staff are amazing and so friendly

Exceptional service matched great food! Family and friends went for Sunday lunch and we had the best time. Food was plentiful and so tasty. Flynn our waiter was amazing, so attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

We stayed at the Avon Causeway overnight before taking an early flight from Bournemouth airport, and the location was perfect. Under 10 minutes to departures. Parking for our week away was included in the price of the room/ complementary. We received a warm welcome from the landlord who was helpful in every way. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Heating was adjustable to suit individual comfort. Both room and bathroom were spotless. The shower operation was straightforward (a bonus for me!) and water was hot! We didn't have dinner but the menu looked inviting. Our departure was too early for breakfast, but we were provided with a packed snack to keep us going.

We love The Avon Causeway. The staff are excellent and the food is brilliant. I had my 70th birthday on the Old Railway Train it was fantastic. My sister and I went for lunch in the restaurant yesterday. the service, the staff and the food were exceptional.

I’ve been to The Avon Causeway several times now. It’s lovely to see the attention to detail in the pub and hotel’s heritage. Clearly, there is a lot of love for the venue to fascinate everyone from children to adults, regardless of whether you’re a train enthusiast or not. On this occasion, I went for a lovely pre-Christmas lunch with work colleagues and friends. The service was wonderful and considerate, the team were friendly and approachable and, even though the venue itself was busy, it was a good-spirited busy with people behaving responsibly and chatting amiably. A great time was had by all!

Amazing place with fantastic staff who go above and beyond to make your stay a comfortable one. Always very accommodating for myself with my spinal cord injury. Quick to help with bags and always leave extra bedding for the support I need in bed. No lift here, but luckily I’m able to navigate stairs, albeit very slowly. Food is also delicious and breakfast top quality. A small supplement for a few of the items on the menu but most is included in the room charge. We now stay regularly when we’re in the UK.

Disappointing Christmas Festive Afternoon Tea Greated and given a table, which had lovely Christmas Decs. Very quiet in the pub and this is where it went downhill. We were given our tea on a platter (not usual three tier cake stand), this is where we realised it had come straight out of the fridge. Jam and cream were hard, not able to spread them probably. Asked for tea and waiter said he wasn't sure it came with tea. Asked for scones to be warmed, again waiter said he didn't know what to do, I suggested a microwave, he eventually said the grill was still warm so could do something. Requested prior to coming that we didn't want chilly jam, however this was on the sandwich. The only nice thing was the homemade scotch egg. Didn't have an enjoyable experience, maybe shouldn't do afternoon tea, as this didn't seem popular and hence why we had a pre made tea straight out of the fridge.

Brought my parents for a birthday lunch ,, the restaurant was delightful , nice and warm and very cosy , the staff were brilliant , nothing was too much trouble and the food was fab , we had a very lovely lunch thankyou so very much .

Fantastic family trip had! 2 adults and 2 kids all fantastically looked after, from the smiling check in gentleman who offered to help with bags up to the room, to Amanda for breakfast who could not have helped more with helping getting the kids well fed for the day. The cleaning lady was also fantastic even after I explained my son had been ill in the night, so understanding and caring. I travel a lot for work and I've never been somewhere where every person was as friendly as this pub! If I had work near here I would be in this pub every time! The rooms were big and well looked after, nice selection of tea and coffee. The breakfast was large and perfectly cooked and supplied with a smile. The surroundings are safe with lots of good parking! 10 out of 10, well done team!

Warm friendly welcome. Good food and drink. Comfortable rooms. A bit of railway nostalgia thrown in. What's not to like? (Noise from nearby dual carriageway, tbh)

We’ve stayed in a few Butcombe inns, and this one is not as charming as some of the others. Still a cozy place though. The staff are absolutely fantastic, though. We were displaced by a storm at our other inn, and they accommodated us with no fuss. Some day I want to come back and have a party in the Pullman car!

Being local we met up with friends for Sunday lunch. Having had snacks there on previous visits we were disappointed with our Sunday roast . The lunch arrived but the presentation was poor. Potatoes and veg were underneath the meat which made them soggy with a large overdone yorkshire on top of everything. Disappointing to find 10% added to bill as a service charge which was not noticed at the time

Met a friend for lunch, the restaurant has a lovely ambience and was warm which was most welcome on a cold December day. The food was wonderful and the service impeccable. Highly recommended!

4 of us had an excellent lunch at the Avon Causeway. The service was very good and presentation and the quality of the meal was without doubt A1. The Avon Causeway has a pleasant atmosphere and tables are laid out in a way that makes it feel spacious. We highly recommend this establishment.

Lovely pub , nice staff , food good , nice and clean and great to be able to park whilst away. Unfortunately we was in room 1 and we only got a couple hours of sleep due to the bed being so uncomfortable the mattress was poor. we could feel every spring and pump in it ! Also I had the app Butcombe for 25% of on a Wednesday saying I had saved 10.00 off our meal which was great but noticed they had added a 8.00 something service charge which I thought was a bit cheeky so really didn't save anything

The room was very clean and a comfortable bed. The service in the restaurant was excellent, the food was delicious. Our dog enjoyed his time there.

Stayed here before flying out of Bournemouth early the next day. Ate in the bar in the evening and the beef pie was beautiful with great service. Room was nice and clean with everything we needed. Nice outside area - will definitely be back on a summer's evening.

As always a warm friendly welcome at one of our favourite places to stay. Has all went need, a great location and enjoyable menu.

We visited The Avon Causeway with family for a birthday meal.We were accommodated perfectly considering we were a large party of 11.The service was brilliant,a busy Sunday lunchtime and the staff were attentive,cheerful and professional.The food was top notch and the atmosphere was welcoming.Looking forward to another visit soon.

Beautiful bedroom, extremely clean. Staff are fantastic and helpful. Food quality is excellent. Highly recommended. The only problem I had was finding the entrance to hotel which is down a dark unlit track off a muddy layby with no signage.

My father and I had a lovely roast after a long dog walk across the forest. Food was really good and the service was great. Even the dogs were made welcome and had a lovely time. We will definitely return.

Fantastic location on the outskirts of Bournemouth, a stones throw from the airport and also lots of lovely walks on the door step. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Food was excellent, good wholesome British pub classics. Beer was amazing too! Highly recommended.
