This is an excellent restaurant delivering excellent food, friendly staff, when I went this was many Indian people eating in there, this speaks for itself on quality of the food. I do not usually write many reviews but I can only assume and believe that THE NEGITIVE REVIEW MAYBE WRITTEN BY COMPETITORS, I can not stress enough how fresh and nice the food was, its worth travelling to for the taste alone as I live several miles away. .

This restaurant is a little gem delivering the best quality food in a nice atmosphere, the food is reasonably priced I would certainly recommend this restaurant with the greatest of confidence. We went as a large party and had an exceptional service and the food was generous portions and was extremely tasty. I ended up taking what I could not eat home, after enjoying this so much and the distance I live away from the restaurant I had to go back for enormous take out order for freezing at home.

As regulars in the restaurant we found the food excellent, well cooked and served. Since moving to Norfolk we always go a meal and bring take always back for later from the Ashoka. To us it is the best restaurant for quality we know

Recommended by Ray Walker father my in law who has been a customer for many years, and I can see why, friendly staff with the combination of food that is cooked to perfection and tastes so fresh, all at an extremely well priced menu with plenty of choice,. I would strongly recommend you visit this restaurant and experience the delicious food as you will not find a better restaurant locally.

We used to go the The Ashoka a lot when our children were younger - mainly due to great food at a good price and a really funny older Muslim waiter who was great with the kids. Competition on this part of Melton Road for Indian restaurants is fierce so we ache gone elsewhere but we miss the Ashoka - get back your Mojo guys!

The food is still some of the best I've tasted in Indian restaurants. The prices are still really good value for money, but the restaurant was empty when we visited last week and has no atmosphere. It still needs redecorating, but I will continue to go there to get an excellent meal at a good price, served by a pleasant waiter.

We usually go to ashoka on special occasions. It is my wifes favourite. We got there sat down and lady took our drink order. I ordered cider. When I went to the bar to ask which cider they had She said kingfisher or cobra. I told her they were beers. She asked me what cider was. I showed her strongbows in fridge. Food is very nice. My wife is vegetarian. She found prawns in her rice. Put us both off our food.We complained and we went to leave we were presented with a bill for food. When I refused to pay the manager was rude. Demanded money for the drinks and to leave his premises. As we left he said in a loud voice .you are thieves. I was gobsmacked. Have never been so insulted. Last visit to ashokas. No wonder on a Saturday night we were one of two customers. Seriously gone downhill. Dont go there.

We decided to get a take away from here on a Monday night as my son had passed an important exam. I'm going to keep this reasonably snappy because otherwise you would be reading war and peace. So when my wife rang up to order, the guy picked the phone up and said nothing. Yes, nothing. Not even "hello". My son and I arrived to collect and were greeted by an empty restaurant and a fairly disengaged member of staff. We were told the food wasn't ready and would we like a drink (despite turning up at the appointed hour). What he really meant was "your food hasn't been started yet". Somewhere north of 25 mins later, the food appeared. He then presented me with a bill incorrectly calculated (in their favour obviously) which I challenged. This was fairly easy as I have primary school level maths, which he clearly didn't and the bill was subsequently amended. We got the food home and it was distinctly average, apart from the nan bread which was truly appalling. We suspected it was shop bought nan bread. Actually that is doing shop bought nan bread a disservice as this stuff was rank. Normally my kids hoover up the left overs next day. Not this time as it went straight in the bin by mutual agreement. I have been a regular here for 20 years but lately the food and service have plummeted. I won't be going back. It's sad, but this place used to be buzzing with lots of Indians picking food up and tucking in to sit down meals. I don't know what's happened but the owners really need to up their game as there's some pretty tough competition locally. Carry on like this and you will be out of business.

The quality of the food is first class. The menu is extensive and the prices are very reasonable. The interior of the restaurant is a little tired and could do with a make-over but that does not detract from the lovely food.

Me and my husband ate there tonight and the food was far from great it took nearly an hour for it to arrive and when it did it was pretty much tasteless! And the naan bread in particular was very bad cooked in haste and very doughy! The waiter was friendly enough but the establishment is unde staffed and the food left much to be desired ! Dissappointed!

I cannot believe the negative reviews of this restaurant. I have been eating here for many years and the food has always been brilliant. The service is friendly and attentive. I will admit sometimes in the winter it can be a bit chilly and the selection of wine is not that great. Bur we are here for the food and a beer is just fine. In fact I am going tonight.

We went to Ashok last year it's nothing to be proud of but it's ok for once . I have been to many recommended places but have not been as good as portrayed . Food quantity is small and pricy , staff are good may be that's what I can say and then it's up to people to make up their mind as every one has different taste , and they should find out for themselves .

I visited on 26/01/2013. It was cold in the restaurant. The food arrived and i was shocked at the low quantity, especially the main Chicken dish at a cost of £8.50. They would not put heating on even after complaining. This is one of those greedy places and I do not know how they get away with it. I have given 2 stars because most of the food was generally tasty. This will be only visit to this restaurant.

Having returned to Leicester for a visit having moved away 9 years ago, my wife was keen on tying the Ashoka again as its her favourite korma. They did not let us down, freshest naan, hottest, freshly cooked food and service to die for(what other restauranteur can remember the names of guests after 9 years?). Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Just wish it was nearer to our home town of cardiff Barry & Debbie

This was the third time I had visited the resturant previous experiences have been fine but this time we waited at least 45 minutes for the starter which came out separately and wasn't particularly hot, we then waited an extra 30 minutes for our main courses, which firstly the waiter didn't know what food he was bringing out, secondly it tasted like soap and finally it was cold!!!! We won't be visiting again!!!

I placed an order at 6:20 for delivery, I was quoted it would arrive in 45mins.By 8pm it still hadn't arrived, the driver couldnt speak english and had no idea where he was and was rude to me when he rang me. I rang Ashoka to report this and the man on the other end of the phone found it very amusing and was very unhelpful. He then tried to blackmail me into still going ahead with the order.I cancelled the order, terrible customer service and awful workers! Will not be returning. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CURRY FLAVOURS - amazing customer service, very police and always on time!

The food here is very good but the last few times I have been the service has been slower and slower and the orders keep getting mixed up. They dont always have alcohol anymore either. When the food comes out it is very tasty which kind of makes up for the long wait. If they improved the speed of the service and the organisation of the orders then this review would have been been very good or excellent instead of average.

Used to be a regular haunt in years gone by, but standards have slipped. Sunday lunchtime, and this is one of the few open in Leicester. Went for Prawn Puri starter, which must have been the mistake. Prawns suspiciously overcooked, and overly fishy. Onto to chicken jalfrezi, which was not good. Listless and oily with overcooked and possibly reheated pilau rice and burned naan. Drove home feeling I had not eaten well. Violently ill in the evening and overnight. I am an great lover of Indian food but, under abolutely no circumstances will I ever visit this restaurant again.

I have been eating food from Pau Baji since the 1980's. At that time they were based on Eggington Road and the shop was called Milan. This Family run business, Started by Paresh is one of Leicester's originals. I still visit whenever I am in town
