I think there are a few old reviews of mine on here. Some good some bad. Well now they obviously have a decent chef and the food is very good and decent sized portions. I have only used the Ashmann for takeaways recently as they no longer sell alcohol in the restaurant so it’s more of a takeaway now. It’s not cheap but you get good quality food. And locally there is no competition.

We have used the Ashmaan for many years, never again. We ordered a take away at the weekend, it was not good! We ordered a Ashmaan byriani, lamb, chicken and prawns £11.25, there was 4 small pieces of chicken and 4 of lamb, the prawns were so small you could hardly see them. We added a sauce at a cost of an extra £2.75, £14 for a dish of rice and peas! If we had ordered chicken tikka, we would have gotten a full chicken breast, rice and salad…..We also ordered a Royal Korma, it should have had sultanas in it, there were none, the dish it’s self had a sour taste not creamy as expected. The garlic naan was also sour I am not sure if the garlic was over cooked, we didn’t eat it. We were so disappointed!

My daughter recommended this place to my boyfriend and I to try and we are so glad we did. Service was impeccable. Food was exceptional and tasty and fresh. We shared the mixed pakora which had a spicy kick. We shared one of the BIGGEST nan breads we've ever had. Both our main dishes were delicious. We will recommend and most definitely return.

This place is terrible, save your money and your tastebuds. A very average curry firstly, but it's also extremely expensive for what it is. They'll also charge you £1.25 extra for the privilege of a 'hot' curry rather than a mild curry - so cheeky and a total con. First time i've ever seen that in any restaurant and leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Go to the other indian in Linlithgow, Delhi's Winter, instead. Better tasting and better value for money.

Spur-of-the-moment decision to check out The Ashmaan (our training run took us past the door, planting the seed earlier this evening). From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we had a really great feeling about the place, friendly staff, really sharp decor, intelligent design and use of space to create intimate booth-style tables. As vegans, we found plenty of choice on the menu and our waiter, Tariq, was very helpful in explaining what dishes were likely to suit our stated preferences. The food, when it arrived, was delicious. The restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, but the non-alcoholic beers were indistinguishable from the real thing. Will definitely be back.

Had a sit down few weeks ago and was surprised to find they don't sell alcohol (neither do they allow you to bring in your own). That spoilt a "Lads Curry and Beer night" So in future we will only be trying this as a take away. My friends really enjoyed their curry so hence the 4 stars. Mine however (Indian Garlic Chilli King Prawn) was not great and it came with chilli flakes sprinkled on top!!!! a 1st for any Indian I have had. Mine was also just prawn in a quite watery sauce, very sweet so I wouldn't order that again. Will leave any further reviews till we have sampled some more in Take Away form. No issues with service but a lack of customers (Friday evening!!) meant little or no atmosphere.

Don’t ever ever buy anything from this place. I ordered Punjabi bhuna. The description says peppers/onions. No peppers, two huge chunks of pineapple (I hate it & it took up all the space in the tub) the chicken was like chewing stones and it had prawns in it (I hate prawns) It cost £18 and I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. If you like terrible food & paying £20 fir just a curry then fill your boots.

I have been a customer since 1984 ( 37 years) and apart for the last 15 months the food had been outstanding. For the last 15 months the carry out food has been awful - the vegetable pakoras have been mushy and full of salt rather than the crispy and spicy way they used to be the tandoori gravy is watery and tasteless and the nan bread is no longer puffy and is tasteless. Something has changed over the last 15 months and I will not be back.

It was decided that Sunday dinner was going to be a treat to ourselves so without hesitation, the Ashmaan menu was grabbed. After a browse of the menu, I called to place our selection and confirm delivery. As with most food delivery, I assumed I had plenty of time to relax on the sofa, but no. The door knocks after about 20 minutes and our food had arrived. The food was piping hot and tasted outstanding but to be fair, I wouldn't have expected anything less. All our previous Ashmaan food orders have all surpassed our expectations! Highly recommended!!!

Ordered a takeaway a couple of times from here when visiting family. It always arrives much quicker than the time given when ordering. Love that. The food is also great with good portions. Very good quality. I only have one gripe and that would be the takeaway prices are a little higher than I'm used to. Nearly 8 pounds for a vindaloo. For 9.20 in Blackpool I'd have the vindaloo, rice and a portion of chips. Still. Good food so can't complain

We all had kormas which were very good, we also agreed that the lamb is better than their chicken. The Kashmiri naan bread has to be the best naan I have ever had! We thought Ashmaan had improved slightly until recently when we returned and our experience wasn't good. Food poor, seating poor, service slow. Examples, we asked for a seat for 4 adults and a child, we were put in a booth seat so we asked for an extra chair so one of us could sit at the end. The waiter eventually obliged but then after being served drinks we were asked to move down to other booth to ease passage for waiters serving the long middle table. We did this but the other booth was just as cramped so tables for 5 people I think on busy evenings they struggle with accommodating you comfortably. It would be a suggestion for them to install some sort of screens either between the booths or at least a curtain to stop the cold air from outside blowing over your hot food every time people are coming in and out and you are sat at a table near the door...Next the food. We didn't ask for poppadoms but they were brought to the table and we were charged anyway. Annoying. Something that sticks in our mind was the tarka daal, which we love at Delhi's Winter, but this was more like a lazy gravy with thick chunks of onion in it (why??), and no sign of any lentils (daal = lentils) and badly lacking in flavour. We waited over an hour for the main course after our starters and during this time the restaurant was busy which is a good sign, but likely thanks to their BYOB policy more than service or quality of food.We didn't leave a tip (which is abnormal for us, we always do) as we were actually quite annoyed about it all.Would suggest if you're looking for great Pakistani/Indian food that you head to Delhi's Winter where we have never been disappointed, the poppadoms are free (the dips are better too!) and the service and seating are excellent. They have moveable tables and chairs, second entrance door to prevent cold wind entering restaurant, faster service, and far better food, hands down. The only reason we are giving the Ashmaan a score of 2 rather than 1, is the waiter did offer a slight reduction on the bill due to having to move tables and the wait for the food, which showed he was apologetic. We won't be going back unless we hear these things have been improved.

I have been going here for years and in the main I have had some good nights in the Ashmaan although since the new decor was fitted it has become a rather noisy place to eat especially when it's busy. I take it that's due to the new reflective walls and ceiling rather than the old textured decor so it's not a place to go if you like relaxed eating. Normally the service is fast and friendly but last night we waited well over an hour from finishing our starter until we recieved our main course, in the meantime people who came in long after us were being served their main courses while we were still waiting on ours. The manager seemed to sense something was amiss and headed off to the kitchen to enquire. We were served up ten minutes later and TBH we were starting to feel that we weren't hungry anymore as the novelty had worn off somewhat . We also felt a little chilly as well as there appeared to be no heating on. The meals themselves were fine as usual so no complaints there, however in my opinion the food is not as good as it used to be.... as the last couple of visits the prawns and lamb have been a bit tough and chewy but this could be down to rushing the food out as on both recent occasions as the restaurant was busy. We came away a little disappointed but not overly so and we will continue to dine here in the future as the owners and staff are really nice. However I will be trying out other places from now on as I like to feel relaxed eating out and Ashmaans can be a little too boisterous to have a decent conversation without shouting.

The food itself is not the issue, only the pricing. I come from Bradford, the capital of curry restaurants and have eaten in all their finest Indian restaurants. Even the top eateries there that sell their Indian food to "Harrods" do not sell their food at the Ashmaan prices. As a couple dining we had a pickle tray, popadoms and a main curry each and a non alcoholic drink. This came to £45.I have eaten in some of the best award winning Indian restaurants (where pickle trays are mostly free or charge next to nothing), the same food AND with alcohol for £30 or under. Because we are so used to our curry pricing, we were really taken back by this. Maybe to the locals this is normal because they don't have anything else to compare it to, but the pricing here is at least a 50% price hike over the finest Indian cuisines I have eaten at in the last 40 years. There is no excuse for this pricing when some of the UK's best Indian Restaurants do not charge this kind of money.Having moved to the area recently I am trying to find a nice regular place to go. Alas, the Ashmaan will not be that place.

We ordered takeaway from here for dinner. I had vegetable samosas for starter, they were very substantial, filled with potato, peas etc. They were nice enough. Nothing special. My partner has vegetable pakora which arrived a little soft even though it was in a paper bag. It was also OK. My main was a vegetable dansak which was supposed to be a lentil based dish. It was full of mushrooms and lacking in lentils. Very oily though. My partner had a medium curry with mango, he thought it was OK, I personally didn't think it was nice, too oily and you couldn't taste mango. The chapatti was a good size and the rice was seasoned nicely. Overall, basic and not good for the price (£26 approx). We will go to Delhi's Winter from now on because it's nicer for the price.

Decent meal, lots of flavour and large portions. Bring your own bottle but there's a convenience store next door (with a really nice owner...) so easy fix if you don't have anything with you.Midweek meal, seated straight away - not many diners in the place but service quick and dishes explained too so nice to have decent service. Nice range on the menu, from very mild too very very spicy / hot. Starters are large! so watch out for the waistline here. Mains were well seasoned and not overly spicy, lots of flavour and again large portions so with a huge naan too there's likely to be another nights meal from the evening if you take home the leftovers. Also offer home delivery so order online or collect from the restaurant. Mid range on the pricing - happy with the cost againstthe high standard.Clean decor, owners on site making sure the place runs well and with the quality of food and size of portions its one to recommend.

My wife and I visited the restaurant for the first time on a Tuesday. It was very quiet in the restaurant but extremely busy on the delivery service. The food was very good and the portions were good, the naan bread was enormous and one between two people is more than enough.

We eat hear quite often and takeaways but it is a sort of home made Indian comfort food type of place rather than a truly Indian experience. There is more quantity than quality, but sometimes that is what you need. The waitresses are very helpful

Best dish I've had since moving to the area two years ago - this was a South Indian tikka masala with cashew rice and beautifully fluffy peshwari nan. Restaurant has been refurbished recently to celebrate their 30th anniversary so ambiance is much improved from our one previous visit. Very pleasurable experience and we'll be definitely back.

Can't recommend the food at Ashmaan highly enough.A few times now I've opted for the Vindaloo. Sure, it's hot, but it's extremely tasty too.If you're ever in the Linlithgow area and looking for excellent Asian food then you really won't go wrong here.

Popped into the Ashmaan tonight after it being highly recommended, We were given a warm greeting at the door and asked if we would like to pick our seats. We were then quickly offered drinks an given ample time to view the menu. As soon as I opened the menu my favourite dish jumped out at me ...Mince curry.... Now if you have never tried a mince curry it is a must have , Anyway on to the food , We asked for garlic nan very heavy on the garlic and oh was it lol, The mince curry was amazing, chips done to perfection and lovely fluffy boiled rice , My wife had the special chicken tikka masala and that was lovely too. The special masala is a mix of masala and korma and just hits the spot. I would ddef return to the Ashmaan in a minute as the food is top class and nothing is too much trouble for the very friendly staff. Its a big thumbs up from me

Visited with family. Menu has something for everyone and every hunger level. Staff were very obliging. This is a BYOB so don't forget your beers or wine as they don't have any. Great place. Casual attire is fine and they do takeaway too.

I love this place. Their food is delicious and the staff are so pleasant. The portions of their delivered food is great for feeding a small family for a reasonable price as one meal feeds me and two children.

Took the wife for a last minute curry, wow what a place, modern interior, great staff. Lovely butter chicken and a massive Naaaaaaaan, only issue is poppadoms £1 each which I thought was a little steep, highly recommended.

Went here for a friend's birthday celebration in a large group. We all had various selection of starters, curries, naan and rice. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they had and I can safely say my lamb phatia is the best I have ever had. First time I have managed to clear my plate in an Indian restaurant. Prices were average and comparable with other Indian restaurants I have visited.Staff were friendly and attentive. Service was excellent and steady. Not too fast or slow. Just what you need when dining in a large party.Having been recently refurbished the decor is fresh and the atmosphere is airy. Like a previous reviewer said it was a bit too stark for me too but that's personal taste and this does not take away from the fact the food was fantastic.I will definitely go back at some point in the future.

For no particular reason have not been here in years. A party of six all had different starters and mains with the usual rice and naan bread. Everyone enjoyed what they had, chana poori and lamb tikka jaipuri in my case. The thing to note is that nothing was swimming in ghee as happened in Indian restaurants previously. Staff suggesting you might be better ordering less rice/naan is a pleasant, unusual experience, although much appreciated. Being unlicensed, but allowing you to bring your own wine/beer without a corkage charge is superb. I'm sure this must generate custom as business was good for a Thursday evening. Obviously been refurbished fairly recently, but decor a bit too stark. Needs something to soften the atmosphere. That aside, food was really good - much better than some recent carry outs from other establishments - so I will be back.

My husband and myself went on 08/06/15 . We had heard good reviews from my parents who'd visited recently too.We got chicken pakora to share and then ordered a chicken bhuna, lamb achari, chips, rice and a naan bread. The full meal was fantastic with hubby even remarking "this is quite possibly the best Indian we've been to."Believe me this is a tall order to live up to as he tends to be a wee bit fussy, so well done ashmaan! The bill came to £34 this included two soft drinks. We both think that was a steal for all the food we got. And actually ended up taking half of it home with us in a doggy bag.Definitely worth a visit the food and service was top notch.
