The Artisan Bar & Grill in Coventry

Disappointing: Salty Chips, Poor Service My visit was a letdown. The service was poor; staff were slow and inattentive from start to finish. To top it off, the chips were incredibly salty, almost inedible. A truly disappointing experience.

Never been here before, a little out of the way but the food was great, service was very attentive, unfortunately the atmosphere was nil as there was now one else there. This place is a gem, put yourselves out there guys, you could be on to a winner, let's face it you have no competition in Coventry centre.

Very disappointed yesterday. Firstly my husband when to pull his chair in and trapped his finger on the loose seat. His finger was bleeding and I asked 1 of the staff if they had a plaster. I explained to her what happened, she said she will see if they had any. She then came with our starters and said she was still looking for a plaster. I thought this was inconsiderate and that she wasn't interested. I have been several times for Sunday lunch but found it very bland. Meat, cabbage, 1 carrot, roast potato and Yorkshire pudding.

Returned to this little gem with my wife once again for Sunday lunch. Our first visit was superb. This visit was superb once again. I ordered the roast sirloin of beef and my wife had the roast garlic & thyme breast of chicken. Both were full of flavour and cooked to perfection and accompanied with tasty fresh vegetables, big Yorkshire pudding and a nice jug of gravy each. We ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and extra roasties. Importantly, to us, our meals arrived hot too, which sadly in our experience, seems to be a rarity at a lot of establishments we have tried in the past. We finished with a delicious orange & cardamom crème brulee. Service, again, was excellent, prompt and friendly. The team here commitments to continuity in preparing and delivering a quality dining experience in a relaxed and friendly environment is obvious. Can highly recommend. We haven't experienced their evening dinner menu yet, (that is on the cards), but if the standard of their Sunday lunch is anything to go by its going to be good.

I went for dinner with friends, the restaurant itself is really nice and the staff were attentive. I had the steak which was cooked perfectly and great value for money. The chips were some of the best I have ever had, and the onion rings are brilliant too. Some of the group had the burger which they rated and said it was really juicy with nice flavour. Someone had the cajun chicken, which again was cooked perfectly and juicy for a chicken breast. We will return, it is definitely one of the best restaurants in the area.

My family came for a Mother's Day Sunday roast and everything was fabulous. The term 'best kept secret' is over-used but it's SO accurate for this beautiful place in the middle of Coventry city centre. Very charming old building, friendly attentive staff, really good quality food - surely one of the best places to eat in the city. I recommend it with no hesitation!

Took my mum here last week for her birthday and as per usual not a single complaint. By far the best steak in Coventry. Food was amazing, staff couldn't do enough for us. I must have been here 5 or 6 times and it never disappoints. Love it here

After an entertaining visit to the theatre, we headed to The Artisan for dinner—and we were not disappointed. The steaks were simply the best we've had in a long time: cooked to perfection, full of flavour, and accompanied by a peppercorn sauce so delicious, I could have easily enjoyed it on its own. The quality of the food was outstanding, reflecting the care and attention the kitchen puts into every dish. The service was equally impressive. Attentive without being intrusive, the staff ensured our evening was seamless and enjoyable. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and well looked after. The atmosphere in The Artisan is warm and inviting. The dining area is thoughtfully arranged, allowing for a relaxing experience where the tables aren’t crammed together, which adds to the sense of comfort and privacy. I would highly recommend starting the evening with a drink in the bar before moving through to the restaurant—the stylish and comfortable surroundings enhance the overall experience. Our evening was truly wonderful, combining top-tier food, excellent service, and a setting that invites you to unwind and enjoy. If you're looking for a spot that delivers on quality and ambience, The Artisan is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

The Cajun chicken was disappointingly dry, with barely any spice to justify its name. The tomato and basil soup, though warm, tasted more like a watered-down sauce than a proper starter. As for the panna cotta, it lacked the smooth, creamy texture you’d expect and was instead firm and rubbery. For the prices charged, I had anticipated a far better dining experience. Unfortunately, the meal was forgettable, and I wouldn't rush back.

Great place, lovely ambience. Good tasty food and staff were welcoming and helpful. Would highly recommend this place.

09.03.2025 We popped into the The Artisan Bar and Grill for Sunday Lunch. Had chicken wings to start and the roast beef main. Well presented and very tasty. Attentive and polite staff. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone.

Our first visit and food was just ok, decent portions but beef was a bit chewy and overall seasoning and flavours were off across the whole plate. Sadly none of us would go back.

Beware of drinks and extras when ordering 10 % service charge £8.50 a pint £7 for a steak sauce £7 for a peice of Brokili i would have gladly paid £50 a steak the extras spoiled it average food poor value for money

My wife and I visited for Sunday lunch. The starters were well presented and full of flavour. My wife had the broccoli and Stilton soup whilst I had the Thai fishcake. We both had roast beef. The generous portion of beef was cooked to perfection and served with tasty vegetables and a large Yorkshire pudding. All served with a nice jug of gravy. I finished off with a very nice Creme Brulee. Also, just as importantly, our starters and mains were served nice and hot. We have been to a few places for Sunday lunch, and although the food may look nice, it often comes out lukewarm, and by the time you get halfway through it it’s cold. The service was excellent throughout and not overpowering. The waiting time between courses was just right, giving us enough time for conversation and to take in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be using this establishment as our go-to place for Sunday lunch in the future when the opportunity arises. If I had to give it a score out of 10, well, it's off the charts. To the management and their team, many thanks.

Food is pretty average but overpriced. Lobster ravioli is poor, it doesnt even taste any lobster. You get a single ravioli.

Visited for dinner with my friend and had an absolutely incredible meal. The steak was cooked to perfection, chips were to die for and the peppercorn sauce the best I’ve ever tasted- we both had the same and agreed. Following the main, we had the baileys creme brulee which was equally top quality. All food was well worth every penny and the service was also fantastic. The young blonde hostess and tall waiter were really friendly and kind. Will definitely return- thank you.

The best roast dinner I have ever had in a restaurant. Flavoursome chicken, crispy roast potatoes, fresh veg and tasty gravy. A fantastic meal in a great old building.

We had our staff Christmas meal here on Friday, staff were fab - very friendly and attentive, and the food was delish! Quirky, cosy old pub and decorated beautifully for Christmas!

Habitualmente vamos a algún lugar de eventos importantes para nuestras obras, pero este año decidimos quedarnos en casa. Somos una empresa local de fontanería con casi 30 empleados. El servicio fue excelente y súper rápido desde el principio. El personal trabajó muy duro manteniendo nuestros vasos llenos y entregando algo de comida increíble. (¡Incluso cuando nos pusimos un poco alegres y ruidosos!) Tuvimos la mejor noche y volveremos el próximo año, mucho mejor que los grandes lugares de eventos, gran servicio, buena comida y gran ambiente.

8 of us dined here yesterday. Starters were delicious and plentiful. We all had steaks and ordered a variety of cuts and each steak was cooked to perfection 👌🏼 Our desert’s were the the perfect sweet to end our evening. The staff were fantastic with their knowledge of the dishes were helpful. The best place to dine in Coventry ❤️

No habíamos reservado una mesa con antelación, pero entramos y nos sentamos inmediatamente. Nuestra servidora Sofie se presentó de inmediato y compartió sus recomendaciones del menú en el que subimos a bordo y mi compañera se adelantó y pidió el T - Filete de hueso que Sofie había recomendado y en sus palabras era 'sobresaliente' - Sofie también recomendó qué vino maridaría con los platos que pedimos, y una vez más tomó en consideración sus conocimientos. La comida y el servicio fue excepcional, así que gracias a Sofie y su equipo que hicieron de nuestra primera salida a Coventry una gran experiencia. Nunca dejo reseñas, pero fue verdaderamente sorprendido por nuestra noche y pensó que el Artesano necesitaba el reconocimiento que merece. 10 / 10 ! Volveremos a visitar Coventry solo para el Artesano : )

Absolutely shocking! The menu is so limited and most of it is 'not available today'. I would not recommend this. No wonder you had no customers! The dishes on your choices below require an update and most of this was not on your current menu.

Lovely food in a beautiful building

The ambience is lovely and the food is amazing! We had starters and mains, all were delicious and cooked perfectly. Staff were brilliant! So friendly and welcoming, we'll definitely be going back!

Probably the best Sunday lunch you can get in Coventry! Gets busy so you need to book, service can take time when busy but why would you want to rush such good food and atmosphere?

Went there today for a meal for the 1st time after hearing so many good things about it . Food was ok the beef was very tough and waited far to long for the food and it wasn't that busy . I wanted to go and try the "Best steak in Coventry but not after today

Simply the best roast we have had at a restaurant. Service was a bit slow as they were busy but gave time for our food to go down between courses. Will definitely book again.

We booked this establishment for our Grandson's Christening. There was a few panicking moments regarding the booking, however swiftly dealt with by the professional management. The Artisan did the catering and the food was superb. The service was excellent, the drinks reasonably priced for the city centre. The weather was lovely, so we all spent our time in the garden. Thank you to all the staff, who made this a very memorable occasion. We will definitely visit here for a meal, one day soon.

We held a family gathering at the Artisan for a mid week late lunch. It was the first time we had been there but we needn’t have worried as everything was perfect, the team bent backwards to make sure our event was amazing, the food was great and the staff were excellent, friendly and efficient, making sure we wanted for nothing which wasn’t easy because we had pensioners, vegetarians, toddlers, invalids etc all were perfectly looked after. Everything we asked for was ready to go and there wasn’t a single hitch. Thank you very much for a wonderful afternoon.

Came here for a meal, didn't pre book and they had space for the two of us. Food was excellent, one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. Requested it be cooked rare and it was cooked perfectly. The onion rings are fantastic too. Not an especially cheap meal, but the service and quality of food was excellent, happily recommend and look forward to a return visit.

The roast is lush.. this place is one of my faves when I head back to Coventry..hard working staff and great surroundings.

Very dirty tables we had to clean it with hand sanitiser and napkins, ive never done that before. The Guinness was discussing i couldn't drink it, I tried to swap it for water, but they still charged me for a pint of sewage. The menu was small with so I ordered a tbone as i didn't fancy paying nearly £30 for a 10oz ribeye, they came out and said they didn't have it making it the 4th thing on the menu which they didn't have, so i ordered a burger instead. They didn't bring a kids menu out just expecting us to order an adult meal for my 4 year old. The food eventually came out after 50 minutes wait, the chips were made out of the wrong potato they were discussing and the burger was the driest thing I've ever eaten, the only reason I ate the burger was because I was so hungry. I will not eat or drink here again, and i suggest you dont waste your time and money here either. One of the worst things is that as you leave, you see a lovely looking stake house at the end of the road, which you know you should have gone to instead.

This was our first visit to the Artisan, and we weren't disappointed. Although it was a little quiet at 6.00, the atmosphere soon improved and the evening was busy with happy guests. The lamb kofta starter was delicious, and the ribeye steaks perfectly cooked with a generous side portion of chips. Even the coffees were quality!

When visiting friends for the weekend this was our goto pub, lovely atmosphere, friendly locals and staff. On our last night the owners and staff went out of their way to look after us.

Lovely meal for 16 people to celebrate a big birthday. Food and service were great. We had a slightly separate part of the restaurant which we decorated and bought our own cake, and the restaurant were really happy to help. Would definitely recommend to others.

Nice restaurant with great service and atmosphere. We had dinner on a weekday evening, wasn't busy and we enjoyed it a lot. The food was fresh, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Garlic and chilli prawns for starters were exceptional. The main and desserts were very delicious, too. The staff was very friendly, polite and welcoming!

Great place for Sunday lunch. Visited Coventry to see my son whose at uni there and needed a nice place for lunch. This was a good find parking on the road for 2 hours round the corner or a big car park next door, lovely old building querky place, staff super friendly and attentive. 2 courses for £22/23 roast beef and pork, beef was really tasty good portions, chocolate fondant yummy. Booked for 12.30 , strated to get busy about 1ish. Will visit again the next time we pay my son a visit.

Return visit on 15th January 2023: 20oz T-bone steak at £25 each - absolutely srummmy. Great, humorous service, too. Truly one of Coventry's (not so) hidden gems. First visit: Fabulous experience for their Sunday roast. Three of us ordered the beef, which was the tenderest I've ever tasted. They will accomodate you, too, if you prefer it to be cooked well-done. Service was excellent and attentive but you must book ahead for Sundays as I witnessed them turning potential customers away due to being fully booked. Great all-round experience in this historic venue.

Amazing place to eat could not fault the food at all. We had our works christmas lunch here and the staff were really friendly, the service was spot on and the menu was absolutely delicious food was exactly as described and presentation was amazing. I can only leave 1 star as we don't know what the food, service and atmosphere is like. I called on 30th December to ask if they had any tables available for New Year's Eve. Someone took my booking, so imagine my surprise when we arrived and it was closed for the evening! Highly disappointing.

Hosted a surprise party at Artisan in their space at the back and what a brilliant night we had! The staff were amazing and the manager was fantastic throughout the booking process and letting us decorate the room however we wanted. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a space for a party! We were here for a works annual get together. The disco played some nice tunes as we sat there huddled together in the cold, no effort was made by the management to rectify the problem. We estimated -1c outside possibly 8-10c inside. We enjoyed our drinks apart from a very eager glass collector taking one away before it was finished. Attention to detail and first impressions are everything and ours was not the best.

Fabulous food and service!! I would 100% recommend without hesitation. 10 of us attended for Xmas works lunch and 10 of us would go back again without doubt.

First time here for Sunday lunch. We were a party of 16. We arrived at 12:30 but told our booking was for 4:30pm - without hesitation the staff sorted a table for us all and what a beautiful Sunday lunch - highly recommend this place - staff were amazing.

Food was excellent, the only downside being it wasn't hot enough fir me as I do like my food piping hot, however beef was tender, roast pots were excellent, gravy was lovely with a pit on the side which was great, the cauliflower cheese actually tasted of cheese and the mash was cremey and tasty, w pukd definitely go again ...loved it x

The spot is great the food simple but. Tasty our reservation was 21:00-11:00 When we arrived they inform us than the kitchen is closed in a few minutes so to order very quickly.we were the only customers. the staff was constantly collecting and fixing things in a small space At 10 they said something to us if we mind paying until 10:30. We felt that we were bothering, we didn't enjoy our exit. If they don't want to work until 11:00 then why they make reservations???

Fantastic food and great service. A very nice setting I had the fillet and my colleagues had the rump. Everybody really enjoyed the food and reasonably priced too. We will be back.

What a find? Visited the Car Museum and fancied a Sunday Lunch. Short walk away Artisan Bar and Grill. Very good price £25 for a three course meal. Prawn cocktail was delicious, cold and very fresh. Roast beef was literally melt in the mouth. Took my daughter and grandsons 9 and 12. They had the children's meal which was fantastic too. A hidden Gem. Staff were above and beyond. Will definitely be going back.

After reading all the positive reviews about this restaurant we were really looking forward to our visit for my sons birthday. We were quite disappointed with the experience and the service. In an adjoining room they were hosting a large birthday party and we felt we were neglected as a result. Our service was very limited and rushed. The staff were not very friendly and seemed gruff. We asked for a jug of water three times before it came. After we ordered we were told they had run out of rib eye steaks and then when the food arrived were told they had run out of sirloins. My husband steak was tough. My lamb was tasty however and the vegetables were good. Everyone enjoyed their chips but we were just underwhelmed. To their credit the restaurant didn’t charge us for the fourth meal but our overall experience wasn’t great. I had the feeling that this was a great place but we did not see the best of them last night.

My wife and I visited during a stopover in Coventry having seen other reviews. This is a fabulous place in a characterful building, with a limited but high quality menu, great friendly staff …. if we lived in Coventry we would definitely visit multiple times as there was so much on the menu which was appealing. My wife’s sea bass and my sirloin were absolutely perfect. I tend to only write reviews when I have received an exceptional experience …. this was one of those occasions. It was a Thursday evening and there were quite a few unused tables - this place deserves to be full every night.

We had the ribeye steak and fries which was just great. Excellent service by a charming young lady. In my opinion, the best place to enjoy a steak in the whole of Coventry. The wine list is a bit limited but the Malbec is a good choice of red.

Went here for a Saturday night out with family, we have visited a few times before. And as usual the overall experience of both food, service was spot on. Nothing pretentious about the place, just good honest food served in a nice atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit, we will definitely visit again ourselves. Good night all round. Thankyou.

Wow. The fillet steak….. just wow.

We’ve been 3 times now for a Sunday roast, each a few weeks/months apart. The food is fantastic every time. Really good value for money. The staff are brilliant, really welcoming and friendly.

A great experience spoiled by poor, gristly pieces of steak. Well cooked, nicely presented and with friendly staff, but the chef needs to buy better meat.

After hearing so many good reviews, I finally get a chance to try it myself. A party if 9 (2 children) went but it wasn't clear if there was a children's menu. There was a few options and our kids loved their food. Most the party had steak, a mix of Ribeye and Sirlion. We all had sauces and the chips were some of the best chips any of us had tasted. My steak was cooked to perfection and a beautiful cut but some of the party's cuts were a little fatty but still delicious. The portions were good and we were all more than satisfied with the meal. I would definitely go back as a treat for an occasion.

The Sunday roast is by far the best roast dinner in Coventry and surrounding areas. The beef is cooked perfectly, roast potatoes are like home cooked which you never get in a restaurant. The veg is perfectly cooked, and finished off with really tasty gravy. Almost forgot the yorkshire puddings which are also perfect. This place is consistently good! Staff are great too!
