Leave it to Esmie in Coventry

Leave it to esmie brought their truck to my friends wedding. The food was incredible and some of the best Caribbean I have had. Everything was cooked fresh and there were meat and vegetarian and vegan options. The rice, salad and slaw were all super fresh and made that day. Plantain and dumplings were so good too. The bbq s were going all day and the smell was as good as the food. There was chicken and pork and both were sensational. I would highly recommend Esmie to anyone that wants a truck to serve food as this was sensational. Esmie and the staff were really friendly and we.lived chatting. Service was first class. Very much forward to the next time I get to try esmies good. Thanks very much

The food here has a lot going for it but, having ordered from it at Edgbaston for England Vs West Indies, I unfortunately can't recommend it to fans in attendance. It took a long time to queue up to order food, with some people even giving up before they got to the counter - they were the wise ones. Upon ordering, I was told there'd be a 10 to 15 minute wait, which is a bit longer than you'd like to wait for food at a sporting event, but it looked and smelled good, so I was happy to take the risk of missing a small bit of cricket. Unfortunately my food wasn't ready for over half an hour, which is quite frankly a ridiculous amount of time to make fans wait (and, if I'd have been told the wait would be that long, I'd have gone elsewhere). It meant missing the end of the game and a record-breaking innings by Ben Stokes. Whilst he was smashing fours and sixes to the roar of the crowd, I was being covered in smoke from a BBQ, listening to overly loud dancehall music a few yards away and unable to watch any cricket, having just paid £17 for the privilege. Really frustrating as the food was good, but they either need to invest in more BBQs, a TV screen to show the cricket, or buzzers that allow fans to go back to their seat and come back when the food is ready, because it's not very fair to fans in its current state - cricket tickets are expensive enough as it is without having to stand around waiting for that long.

A really nice restaurant with great Carribbean food! On the night, there was a live jazz band with a jazz group dancing in the middle of the dance floor. Really good night overall!

Waited 50 minutes for subpar food at a terrible price. Food came with unlisted ingredients that completely ruined the meal. Never would have ordered from here of we knew what we'd get.

We came here for my dads 60th yesterday and I have to say the service and food were excellent . Carole the manager catered to literally everything and more , we couldn’t have asked for better service it is literally second to none ! We had a table full of Jamaicans they all approved of the food and portions were just the right size ! Would absolutely recommend this place . Friendliest staff around including the bar staff ! Thankyou for making my dads night special and for everything you and your staff do ! We will be back very soon !!!

Another absolutely BANGIN" night at Esmies HALLOWEEN MURDER MYSTERY ! There was 20 of us booked a table and the food, Mickey DJ and the whole evening was AMAZING as ALWAYS !! The place was packed and everyone had the best time !!

Went to the Reggae Halloween Murder Mystery night at Esmie’s. There were 20 of us, had an amazing time. Great venue, atmosphere, music and food! Highly recommend it and can’t wait to book again.

Indeed the best Caribbean food in Coventry. The Jerk Chicken was flavoursome and freshly grilled on the open fire, and the Mutton Curry was very juicy. Compliments to the chef!

Bangin’ chicken and chips, though perhaps a bit over on the chicken skin. Nice staff too. The sauce was to die for. Definitely come again.

Disappointed I'm afraid. We had the special which was lamp chops and chicken wings with chips and salad. For £10 each I found the portion to be quite small. The lamb was very tough! The 'chips' which were fries were cheap, The salad with sauce was lovely however. But paying £10 for sauce and salad with wings that turned out to be 2 chicken chunks is awful. The staff were friendly and pleasant, the establishment had a good atmosphere but that was more from the people from the Twisted barrel outside. I would try the place again however.

We tried Esmie's at Fargo Market on a Saturday night. We had heard very good things about Esmie's food, which left us excited to try. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended 🥲 We ordered 2 jerk chicken skewers with rice n peas along with a bake, plantain, and salad. We also enquired about the wings and fries to see if we could get a portion of just wings, which they happily obliged. However, wings and fries were £10 and they charged us £8 for a portion of wings - not the worst price in the world, but when I say, we got FOUR wings for £8 😭😭😭 £13 for each portion of Jerk and £8 for 4 wings 😭 Now, the wings were actually really nice. Lovely flavour, succulent, and very well cooked. It was just the price, which was extremely disappointing. The jerk chicken skewers were very, very bland. Although I must admit, you get a large serving of chicken but chicken that has no flavour other than the burnt coals it's cooked on - a shame, really. The rice n peas 🥴 We've never had anything so bland. Zero flavour, we counted 3 kidney beans in one portion. The rice had clearly not had any seasonings added as it was as white as the inside of our chicken. I don't get how you can make long grain rice taste like this and claim to be rice n peas. The salad wasn't anything to write home about, either, unfortunately. Diced cucumber & tomatoes and not a hint of coleslaw in sight 🥲 The bake was very good in all fairness. A large serving on the side, which was nice to dip into the best sauce they had - a bottle of Siracha on the side. The platain was tasty, too. Cooked very well and had a great consistency. To sumamrise, we paid £34 for 2 servings of jerk skewers with 'rice n peas', salad, a single dumpling, and a single cut of plantain. And an additional 4 wings. It's very underwhelming, and maybe an experience in the restaurant will prove different, but I wouldn't be trying it again.

Ordered a chicken dumpling burger and i'm sad to say that it was very disappointing. Priced at £12 I was expecting something wonderfully flavourful however it was far from it. The dumpling itself was fried to crisp and was so hard. The chicken didn't have a flavour and the sauce used in the burger gave it a fishy taste which was very unusual. They have their own chilli sauces which were amazing with the chips, why not use this in your burgers? On top of this the place was not busy as at all and I had to wait almost 15-20 minutes for my burger. Unfortunately i will not be coming back and will not be recommending. Disappointed as I had high expectations given the reviews and have enjoyed dumpling burgers from elsewhere. I asked for a refund which they provided.

Best Jamaican food I've eaten other than my Jamaican mother in law's! Will definitely be going back gain and again!

Yesterday we order from a stand in Fargo village as opposed to the restaurant. Their menu was a reduced but oh my goodness the food was AMAZING. My husband and I had jerk sewers with rice and peas, coleslaw, plantain, salad, Dumplings and our son had jerk chicken sewers and seasoned fries, with the most delicious sources and seasoning. We enjoy this takeout so much, it’s by by far the tastiest Caribbean food in Coventry.

Leave it to Esmie. What can I say! Absolutely delicious food. She also has a spot at the Hockley Social Club too every now and then 🥰😋🤩

I’d say that if you’re looking for Carribean food this is probably the place to go. Not exactly my cup of tea but made for an interesting meal!

Esmie’s travelled over to Preston this weekend for my sister’s wedding. The food was fantastic! It was served extremely efficiently to all the guests in lovely bamboo trays. Jerk chicken, rice and peas, salad, slaw, fried plantains and a dumpling. Amazing! I was so full but it was all so tasty and perfectly cooked! Thanks for adding to the whole vibe of the day. Highly recommended!

We visited Esmie's today for Father's Day and had a fabulous time,we had Mutton curry,Jerk chicken burger also a Vegan burger which was all so delicious. Thank you to Carol for looking after us with attentive and such friendly service and the Chef's for such wonderful food.

I first visited this venue a couple of months ago with a friend. Comically, I walked past the entrance and explored the Fargo village trying to find it. Only to be directed back to the first business on the estate. We had booked, but were seated without the need to confirm or reference our booking. Only bench seats, but this was not an issue as we were expecting a street food experience. We were not disappointed. The service was attentive and polite. The food was delicious. My friend was already a fan of the place and travelled quite some distance for the privilege. Subsequently, we have ordered via Just Eat and had the food delivered to us at home - so my other half could also enjoy the tastes. We very much enjoy the flavours that Esmie's deliver with aplomb.

Absolutely delicious food here! I couldn’t choose a sauce so I asked the server what he recommended, he recommended a garlic sauce and I did not regret it 😋 the prawns were really meaty, the rice and pea is very fragrant and has coconut flavour in it too. I would definitely come back for sure 😌✨🌈

Paid 14 pounds for a course of jerk chicken with three sides,dumplings plus two others. I had to wait about half hour till I've been handed over the food in a bag. When I was home I realised that I have an order which wasn't mine!! It was a chicken skewer with plenty of chips, not my cup of tea!The staff there seemed to be overwhelmed although they only had no more than three or four orders. Very disappointed!! I had to re order at indian restaurant, next to my location.

First time eating here, everything you would expect from a good Caribbean menu is available, such as salt fish fritters, curried mutton, rice & peas, jerk chicken etc. All tasted fantastic. The cocktails we tried also had very generous measures in them and were very refreshing. Seemed like a small place, but still plenty of space for our party of 10 and apparently there is further seating upstairs. Staff very friendly and attentive, we also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Esmie. Will definitely return. Another gem at Fargo Village.

First time eating at leave it to esmie and wow what a treat it was had a starter king prawns with pico de galo, oxtail stew with fried dumplings and plantains and a side of mac n cheese, really enjoyed all of the meal, nice music to match the foods

Never disappoints! The kind of playlist you have on at home (appreciate the old school). Real family vibe and of course food is what keeps us coming back.

Absolutely amazing experience. I booked thr upstairs room for a party and buffet dinner. Everyone was impressed with the food, the service was friendly and fun. The cocktails were tasty and strong. Definitely a great place for a small (10-20) party.

you will never go to turtle bay again once you have been to this place the food was amazing and the staff were fantastic too i just wish they did pints of red stripe instead of the little bottles. you guys are doing a great job as Coventry needs more places like this

Attended a private function, food amazing so were the cocktails will be returning the waiter top class.

We visited last night on the spur of the moment and despite being very busy they found us a table in about 10 minutes. We ordered the curried mutton and the king prawns. Both meals were delicious and the mutton in particular was really well cooked and just fell apart. The service was really good,very friendly and there was a great atmosphere in there. This is definitely a great venue with fresh, healthy food.

It was great to order from Esmie's. I work for a local company and asked if Esmie's could cater for 15. It was not problem, and the purchasing process was straightforward. I was called when they were due to deliver the food, and came on time. The food was delicious, full of flavour and everyone in my office was impressed. I will be sure to use their services in the future. Menu White rice Rice and peas Jerk Chicken Jerk Seitan Steamed veg and Esmie included salad free of charge!

Visited while in the area seeing friends. We actually chose this restaurant because it smelled so good from outside! The gentleman serving was great, clearly very busy as the only server, but still took the time to speak to us and check in once or twice while we ate. The food was amazing, very very tasty. The portions were huge and we ordered so much we didn’t think we would manage it all. We were all full but just couldn’t stop eating as it was all so tasty! Fab veggie/vegan options and all the prices were good value for money. We will definitely be back!

Me and my partner both agree that the last meal we had at Esmies was the best meal we had ever eaten. (don’t tell my mum 🤣) Every single mouthful of food tastes as good as the last, and everything from the customer service to the food is 10/10. We went to Christmas Carnival… two course meal, entertainment, unlimited free drinks for one hour, amazing staff so friendly will deffo be bringing all my mates here!!!

Awful customer service. I placed an online order before their 4pm deadline. No email to say it was denied for whatever reason. My order did not arrive. I tried calling, no answer. I reached out via social media (instagram), they read my message and still have not responded. Over 24 hours later. Luckily, another Caribbean restaurant were happy to provide assistance. It’s a shame. This restaurant used to be a favourite.

Visited a number of times, always excellent homemade, freshly cooked food. Good choice including vegan options. Lots of food so good value for money.

Great food but I cannot recommend this as a place to try. Avoid at all costs! (Read my edit lower down as well) The server was lovely but she was literally the only person in the restaurant taking all the orders, making drinks, serving the food, clearing the tables. That was clearly a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting for 1.5 hours exactly before our food was served - this is by far the longest I have ever waited for food anywhere in my life! Communication during this wait was nonexistent and any time we tried to ask, the poor server was too busy to get an answer for us from the kitchen. It looked like the restaurant was clearly prioritising takeaway orders as there was a nonstop stream of takeaway bags and drivers making their way out of the restaurant. I still don't understand why they continued to sit people down. They should've either closed the restaurant for those wanting to dine in or started rejecting takeaway orders (something a lot of restaurants do when they don't have the capacity). After 1 hour 30 minutes the food finally arrived. It was quite tasty, though maybe it was the hunger making us think that. Having looked at some other reviews since our visit we clearly haven't been the only ones in this situation before, and it's something that seems to keep happening. I would not risk the crazy potential wait times for food that could be a 4 out of 5 if everything else had been perfect (which it wasn't!). Edit: In reply to the message below, this happened on Saturday 13 August. By the type of reply below, it is evident of what you can expect. I hope people really see what type of business this is. I gave some accurate feedback based on exactly what we experienced and the response is essentially that I'm apparently giving an unsubstantiated claim and that I should have raised my concerns to them directly. During the night we mentioned our wait for food, but as already written it was out of the hands of the poor staff member. I actually praised the taste of the food and have been very sympathetic about the situation with the restaurant only having one server. This review is more a review of the business owner/manager at this stage. These types of replies attacking customers as if they're making it up or are to blame for the situation is not a good look.

Absolutely brilliant. Food was fresh and very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good value too. The dumplings (70p) were huge and tasty, though the prawns stole the show. We will be back soon!

This restaurant is an absolute land mind of ROBUST CARIBBEAN FLAVORS!! I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying some of the best Caribbean food since I can remember from my mother and grandmother. Felt just like I was in taken back in time with how precise and on point the flavors were. The jerk chicken burger is my absolute favourite! My partner is vegan and I must say that I if the staff didn’t tell me it was vegan, I would have never figured it out. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FLAVORS!!!!!!!! Five Stars easily earned!!

So this is the second and last time we have tried to order food from here. The first time they were closed without prior notification. The second time, despite the presence of THREE staff memebers manning the desk we were completely ignored. We walked out in the end and will NEVER come back here again! If you want a good meal; please don't leave it to Esme, as you probably will never get served! The menu looks impressive, however it's unnecessarily complicated with Jamaican Patois which make working out what you'll be ordering really difficult. All I can say is that this is 100 percent an establishment to avoid.

I just had the pleasure of eating here and want to thank the young lady that served us,she was absolutely amazing and had a big smile on her face even though she was ran off her feet and sadly been spoken to terrible by the chief,I would have gave 5 stars but the chiefs attitude and treatment of this young lady was discusting

Fantastic staff. Mutton curry with rice and peas were really good (slightly salty but likely personal taste). Food however took 50 minutes to arrive and only 1 small fridge meant only a handful of cold beers. So close to bring so good

Absolutely terrible !!! Hardly any sauce came with the jerk chicken meal. I asked for a side of plantain with the 2 meals I ordered and they only put 2 pieces of plantain on each meal. How ridiculous!!! If I had seen this before walking out the door after collecting my order I would have asked for a refund. I definitely won’t be going back there !!!

I love going or ordering from Esmie's is a great little place nestled in a corner of Fargo Village just outside the city center. The food here is delicious and the portions are rather satisfying. I highly recommend you try the a Long Belly Bowl on your first visit as it comes in a range of meats, seafood and Vegan options, and this allows you to try several menu items in one dish. I adore the food here, it's so tasty and just satisfying, I can't recommend Esmie’s enough.

Second visit to Esmie’s. Once again food was superb. However service was very poor. Thirty minutes after our order was accepted we received our drinks!! It took just short of an hour for any food to arrive, despite several assurances “ it won’t be long now” such a shame. One observation was all the Just Eat, Uber eats etc drivers that were collecting, looked liked they got priority. Such a shame as the food is brilliant, probably our last visit though.

The food is great, no doubt about it. The mutton curry is to die for. The staff are great, but the food came out in drips and drabs but that is also partly our fault (12 of us) for not being more organised. We did have some side dishes not appearing. You can order from the table via an app or pop to the bar to order. The app is good but could have a little improvement. With all of that said. This place is worth a visit.

Visited on Saturday night and had an absolutely lovely meal. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with really friendly staff. They play some classic and new reggae tunes in the background which creates such a feel-good vibe. I had the long belly vegan bowl which is a tasty selection of vegan dishes which were all seasoned to perfection and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had curry mutton and said it melted in his mouth he loved it! And the dumplings... well what can I say, they were fresh and fluffy, the best dumplings I have ever had. We enjoyed the evening so much and will definitely be back for more. So glad we have such a great restaurant in Coventry 😁

Came here with a group of friends for a reunion last weekend. I’d been here a few times before years ago and the great to see they’re still going. The food was sensational! I had the vegan long belly bowl with jerk soya ‘chicken’ such a good serving size that I even had leftovers to take home which was delicious the next day. I also had the vegan mango and passionfruit cheesecake and I genuinely did not want it to end. Lovely ambiance, great service by the lovely Caira. All my friends enjoyed it, both vegans and meat eaters. It’s a must go if you’re in the area !

My wife and I went for meal on Saturday evening. It is a small restaurant with about 10 tables downstairs. The servers were very friendly. The food was brilliant home cooked Jamaican style. The price was very reasonable. We both enjoyed it and would recommend.

Very tasty food, good portion's and happy atmosphere, yes you have to wait a little longer for your food, but that's what happens when things are cooked fresh & properly 🙂

From the very beginning to the end, our visit at this restaurant started of chaotic, with the servers seemingly being very stressed and not able to handle the quantity of orders they had coming in, most of them from delivery apps. The latter part seems as an issue for the guests at the restaurants as this caused sever delays in receiving our and other guests food. When the food finally arrived, we were excited to fill our bellies with some delicious Caribbean food. The excitement was however short-lived, the chicken was the driest and toughest meat I've eaten, the sauce and in general all the foods were bland and flavourless. The last straw to our stay was that my partners meal had a non food-related item in her meal. At least they offered a refund for her meal. Just a disappointing meal and visit. I hope the owners get some sense and start running the restaurant better, focus on either the guests or the delivery of food, not both as that is clearly not working out, and add some spice to your food!

I have come to this restaurant many times over the years, today's service was appalling. Come to the restaurant at 1920 ordered drinks, and food, drink took 40 minutes to be served drinks after chasing. Food initially came that was the wrong order not for us, I requested to keep the X2 dumpling while we wait for our food, another 35 minutes before our meals came and this not together then a further 5 minutes wait for Mac cheese, when I asked for our dumpling I was told you have already had 2! I didn't realise I was the customer and was paying for food. At this point no condiments offered or salt, my partner had to ask again for the dumplings at 9pm. The experience here today I have never received and my enjoyment of the meal reuined, for the price and quality I will not be returning for the sheer ignorance. I have taken the time to travel into the city and couldn't even finish my meal I was so vex. Message to reply: thank you for your reply and the offer for a meal. However I would like to decline. The facts you have given are partly incorrect. We actually called prior to attending and we at no point was told how busy you was until we received our drinks. I am not concerned about the delay in food, what is poor customer service is you are a small restaurant, and common sense would be if your customers have no drinks after a certain amount of time you would ask is everything okay do you need anything? The duty manager was not bothered about my experience, I even made the point to pay for my additional dumplings that was such a hassle to obtain prior to leaving. I am really disappointed and unfortunate to say I won't be returning.

Loved it here. Been meaning to go for ages but ya know... Covid/lockdowns. Food was immense - Dutty fries, lamb chops, jerk platter and sweeeet dumplings! Haven't had real Caribbean since about 2016 so this really hit the spot. Cosy little place, lovely service. Can't wait to head back!

This is such a wonderful authentic Caribbean restaurant. All the food was cooked from fresh and of high standard. The rum punch was delicious and strong just like on holiday in Barbados. Waitresses were very friendly and chatty and can’t wait to go back again...

There was a bit of a delay with our food but we were offered free cocktails to compensate which was more than generous. The food was very reasonably priced and good hearty portions. We'll definitely return if we're back in Cov.

Had a family birthday mum's 90th tried to order on line , kept saying not available for alot of the food rang restaurant placed order as it was a family gathering large order £192 in total asked for discount 10% given.... I have to say the food was amazing the mutton to die for everything was amazing and hot 😋👍down side 😢 slow service so slow arranged for collection 4pm didn't leave with collection till 16.40pm 40mins wait not good expected it to be ready disappointed working on jamaican time I think 🙈😂

Went here after my wife said they had a pop up in Leamington, living Birmingham my whole life and eating in some of the best Caribbean places like Russell's in Lozells. Wasn't really looking forward to and yes I was right. Ordered the curry mutton no flavour or taste wasn't even warm. After adding some salt to it got some sort of flavour, asked for some pepper sauce was give some mango sauce which wasn't even spicy. I wouldn't recommend it if you want some proper Caribbean in Coventry make your way to Foleshill Road you'll find a couple round there Place is for hipsters who find mayonnaise spicy

Had high hopes for this place after seeing the pop up in Leamington and I wish I hadn't bothered. The place looks cool but the wait time and food itself is terrible. The wait was 30 mins with only 2 tables in and the food was cold and bland! I'm so disappointed as this wasn't at all authentic. Even Turtle Bay tastes better and that's scraping the barrel.

Great assortment of chicken wings, and the oxtail is great!
