Had the Festive Prix Fixe Menu. Always wanted to visit this place, finally got around to it. Paul Askew is a big champion of the local business/hospitality community and is a classic Chef in the mould of Marco Pierre White in my opinion. Food was amazing, also the service was too, a truly memorable experience, will be back. Highly Recommended.

Dining out doesn’t get much better than this! A friend and I had a sparkling lunch here last week - literally, as a glass of English sparkling wine with chunky tasty gordal olives is a delightful opener. Service is friendly but slick, food beautifully presented and perfectly cooked, from the two-cheese soufflé starter through the pinky venison loin to the trio of pretty and tasty desserts. The wine list has a wide and varied range at every price point; at £32, the Barbera d’Asti was excellent value with significant depth of flavour. I’m planning to go again next month!

Excellent/delicious, good value, fixed price menu. Fascinating wine list, with some unusual (in a good way) entries. Add to that a wonderful 1966 Armagnac to complete a great dining experience! Brilliant service too!! Thank you to the team!!

Wonderful food and very friendly staff. Appetizers and mains were most appreciated around the table. The decor was very interesting, with the art pieces and the umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. They were mindful of dietary restrictions. The sommelier had very nice recommendations that paired well with the food, also within the wine by the glass section.

The Art School remains a fabulous dining experience in Liverpool. We enjoyed the prix fixe menu - 3 courses preceded by a welcome drink with olives and amuse bouche. My souffle and guinea fowl main were excellent and trio of desserts capped a lovely meal. Service very good, not stuffy but attentive and friendly. The venue is magnificent. All together a great experience.

My wife and I visited the Art School in September for my birthday meal, and we both opted for the tasting menu. I had the full tasting menu, while my wife chose the vegetarian tasting menu. A nice touch was the "Happy Birthday" message at the top of the menu when we were seated. Prior to our meal, we enjoyed a drink along with a selection of delicious snacks in the bar area. Both the bar and the restaurant had a lovely ambiance, with the kitchen visible to patrons. The waiting staff were excellent, especially the waiter from the USA, who had great wine knowledge. We decided to try wines we had never tasted before, including a Riesling and an English wine. Both were delicious and worthy of a second try. (That's my excuse). I’ve attached photos to showcase the superb quality of the food. I wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant, and if I find myself back in Liverpool, I will definitely book to eat here again.

We came for dinner early on a Saturday evening and dined from the Prix Fixe menu, which we thought was excellent value. The service throughout the meal was spot-on. We felt exceptionally well looked after and the whole experience was timed and managed perfectly. The whole evening was seamless and the staff are a real highlight here. Whilst we enjoyed our starters, we felt the main courses and pudding was a little lacking in imagination. The chicken felt a little bit like wedding food - whilst it was executed well, it wasn’t memorable in the sense of bringing anything new to the table. The trio of desserts felt a little underwhelming and - dare I say it - a little bit like the taster sized desserts you might expect to find in a Vegas buffet. Some restaurants and chefs are just not “dessert” people, which is fine, but in that case maybe have the option on the menu to take just 2 courses rather than the full three. We wondered if the main a la carte menu might have been more exciting? The wine list was interesting with lots of variety and various price points, particularly so by-the-glass. Overall, would defintely recommend based on the service and the excellent value.

This was our second visit, the first time was for dinner and this was for lunch. We arrived by taxi was was meet by a young gentleman in a bowler hat who gave u a nice welcome walked us 5 yards and handed us over to the receptionist, then she confirmed our booking and took us into the bar another 5 yards. Where we were sat but had to wait ten to 15 minutes to be asked if we would like a drink despite three male members of staff being behind the bar. Maybe the person who takes you in could offer you a drink? or redeploy one of the two who greeted us. Whilst we were having a drink the very polite American lady brought the menu and some olives(I hate olives to be honest). You have to decided on which tasting menu you are going on when you book. It was a hot day outside and better air -con is needed. Lovely bread but the two butters were nearly melted. The mushroom veloute was very tasty but cold. The Canadian waiter knew his job and wines. We started with the hogget, I expected it to be juicy as it said slow roasted but it was crispy like it had been grilled and so was overcooked and the other starter of twice baked souffle was to die for. I was going to have the venison which was on the website but no sign of it on the menu when we arrived so had the pork, everything on the plate was fabulous expect for the meat again, overcooked and dry. The other main course of chicken was spot on. We finished with the signature desserts which were very sweet but need a sauce or something cold with them. No sign of Paul Askew maybe that why there was faults which at that price there should not be.

Clearly a quality restaurant with a focus on special food and a high standard of service. The attention to detail in every element is evident, not least the food with specially selected ingredients that complement each other so well. Just one example of service - if a guest leaves the table for a few minutes, a member of the serving staff will come to the table and refold their napkin ready for.their return! If you want, and can afford, a special experience, The Art School is definitely worth a visit.

We stayed overnight for our wedding anniversary and were just absolutely amazed by the whole experience. Lovely staff, every single one, from being made to feel so welcome on arrival to chatting along with them all. Every one was so helpful and friendly. Beautiful room with everything we needed for our stay. The grounds are gorgeous to have a walk around and it was really interesting to see the kitchen garden where they grow all their own vegetables and herbs. As for the dining experience, there are no words to describe just how totally fabulous this was. We were invited to a light afternoon tea in the early afternoon, then another invite for pre-dinner snacks and drinks before the main meal. The level of expertise every single staff member has is just incredible. The variety and quality of every one of the many courses is amazing. A totally wonderful culinary experience, followed the next morning at breakfast which again was fabulous. Altogether, a truly wonderful stay and we’re already looking forward to a return visit.

We were a party of three and left slightly disappointed by the food. While none of the courses were bad, none were particularly outstanding either. Most dishes were properly cooked but lacked the creativity we expected from a restaurant mentioned in the Michelin guide. One of the desserts, a lemon and ginger tart adorned with gold strings, was perfectly enjoyable, but the gold strings felt unnecessary—more show than substance. On a positive note, the service and drinks were excellent!

I have just been lucky enough to visit the restaurant for my birthday yesterday. The staff were professional and friendly, and they really made you feel welcome. They had a good knowledge of the restaurant and the food and wine. They really made it a special evening for me, and I will definitely be back again. If anyone from the restaurant reads this, I thank you again for making my evening special. The restaurant it's self was a nice setting with some simple touches to personal it. I tried some of their signatures cocktails, and they were good. They were to me also around the average price to what you pay in most bars but a better quality than a lot of bars. Good quality alcohol and mixers used. We got advice on the wine, and they showed they had good knowledge of their wines. The food was delicious, and I could not fault it. We only did the 3 course meal as we didn't want to end up in a food coma as we were going out drinking after the visit to the restaurant. Very positive experience, and I will do my best to get back there at some point again if I visit Liverpool again.

This is our go to restaurant in Liverpool when we want a special meal. It's a classy place that specializes in fine food and drink and attention to detail rather than trying to attract influencers and similar (a problem we've encountered in certain other Liverpool restaurants). The prix fixe menu has a lovely choice of courses, more than in some comparable restaurants elsewhere (e.g. in Aughton) and includes a glass of Prosecco. We will definitely be back, hopefully in the not too distant future! Please don't change what you're doing 😊

Beautiful building, very small reception area. Asked if we could have a drink in the cellar bar, told it was full. Drinks at the bar were good, chefs snacks brought (very good) but we were not offered champagne as per the menu. Thought it might come to the table when we sat down, it didn’t. Food was excellent, although I feel that the beef main with a £5 supplement was very small. My wife had the fish of the day, very good. Cheese course disappointing, the slivers of cheese were tiny and one of them included the rind and a very very small amount of cheese. Dessert course good. Atmosphere very ‘clinical’, no ambient music until very late on. Left us listening to everyone else’s conversations for most of the time we were there. Waiting staff okay, I was left with the tablet for the drinks on the side of the table for the entire evening. This place could be very good, but there were a few details which let it down. Don’t let 10 years on the Liverpool restaurant scene lead to complacency. Not sure I’d hurry back, we were potentially interested in a private dining booking for 20+ but I think we could do better. Good luck for the next 10 years, some attention to detail would work wonders!

It is "posh" but not overwhelming. I like learning about food and the wine and food waiter were very happy to answer my questions. We went for the Menu Excellence: my main was the roast breast of salt-aged duck , accompanied by mooli, hispi cabbage, artichoke and red onion puree. My husband chose the Cumbrian salt-aged beef . I have dined at the Art School twice before this visit, my first experience was excellent, the second let down by the quality of the service, our third visit was to settle the tie and sadly we won't be coming back. In short the food was a mix of highs and lows but the price was simply high. For the cost save up a bit more and go to Moor Hall or save alot of money and go anywhere else, the price point is Michelin star level but the experience is far from it. We had the paired tasting menu which gave us the overwhelming positve of the meal which was an interesting and well curated selection of wines served by an engaging sommelier. The tasting menu varied in quality widly from a bland confit potato, followed by a delicate scallop dish, to a grossly over salted duck dish, back to a excellent beef / lobster main. The pre-dessert was heavy with chocolate which did nothing to cleanse the palate before another chocolate dessert that was almost indistinguishable from the pre-dessert in flavour profile and uninspired. The issue is simply one of food quality for the price and at this price point the expectation should be high which the food failed to deliver.

I was REALLY looking forward to eating here. We took a 10min taxi from the city and it's quite an unassuming entrance from the street in a nice Georgian architectural area of the city. A warm, friendly welcome and pleasant enough surroundings. Excellent to offer an a la carte menu as well as tasting (my bestie isn't very adventurous beyond steak and chicken 🙄). We chose from the ALC which was £89 for 3 courses, with a £5 supplement for sirloin steak main. The 3 amuse bouche, as is customary, from the kitchen were just ok. The bread was equally just ok. The two seeded rolls were dry bordering stale, not warm and certainly not baked fresh that day (or had been under a hot lamp). Scallop starter was ok, one King sliced into three with few queens in a bisque sauce that didn't really taste as punchy as it could have. The sirloin was a total disappointment! Especially given the supplement. My slices had sinew, and it really was a very ordinary plate of food. The desserts were good, light flaky mille-feuille. The decaf coffee was delicious and I probably enjoyed that the most. The atmosphere was nice enough but the music was a bit dated. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, I was quite surprised when the bread crumbs were cleared that they were swept onto the carpet, and not onto a receptacle/hand. I left feeling disappointed and I wouldn't come again. When I'm lucky enough to eat at fine dining places I want to close my eyes and really taste all the flavours and textures dancing around. I only wanted to close my eyes for bed after this. My score was bordering 3.5/4. Sorry!

Exemplary... Dinner at The Art School on their Prix Fixe menu as we were early and were due at the Philharmonic over the road for a show. Service throughout absolutely flawless - that level of 'attention when you need it' but never 'over-bearing' that restaurants find so hard to get right. When it's bang on you know it and that was the case here. If you want attention or need something you aren't sitting there drumming fingers as they are watching the tables and KNOW you are needing something. That's a clever thing that I rank highly in any eatery. Our menu had a lot of choice and varied enough to suit all tastes. Started with a glass of fizz and superb olives. Then an Amuse Bouche (a lovely little soup) and terrific breads with both oak smoked and seaweed infused butters. Delightful. Starters - I had a haggis and foie dish (well, we were only JUST past Burns Night) and wife had duck croquettes. Both superb My main Pave Rump beef with ox cheek and the most divine beef jus gravy i've ever had. Wife had pheasant which she said was excellent. Pud is not my thing, and tend not to have them, but a trio of small (thankfully as VERY rich and sweet) treats followed. As a non lover of puds these were nice. Too sweet for me, but that is just me. The Matcha and lemon item was absolutely beautiful though. Bottle of red was not over priced either - and total bill not silly. Lovely people, lovely food, lovely space. We WILL be back for the fuller menu

Loved our trip to the art school - the food was top quality. Not quite a tasting menu, we chose from the excellence set menu, the dishes were fantastic. Slight shame our main dishes weren't served with an explanation and we couldn't quite find anyone who could tell us exactly what each part of the dish was, taking nothing away from the quality of the food. Good sommelier too!, highly recommend!!

I have thought long and hard about this review, prior to writing. We ate here on Saturday 16th of December. This was an early evening meal, as we had tickets for the Philharmonic. I will admit that I am reviewing this with a harsh mind, due to the expectations we had for this level of restaurant. On arrival, we were shown straight to our table. This was tucked away in the far corner, on a table that was behind a screen. This, despite the restaurant not being busy. Some people may like this, but it was not for us as it seemed dark and secluded. The lady who introduced us to our table was very pleasant. We were served some chef's snacks to begin with, that were ok. This was followed by amuse bouche that included some focaccia bread that was cold and not particularly tasty. The starters came next (squab and scallops). These were well presented and tasty, but they were not warm. Nobody asked us how they were. The main meals (venison and duck) were both good, no complaints there. Finally, even though we are not pudding people, we were impressed with this course. I would also like to add that we bought a bottle of wine, but ended up having to pour it ourselves after the initial presentation. I did expect this to be done for us.

They helped me print name tags for the seating plan, arranged the table setting as per instructions and followed all dietary requirements with great attention to detail. The food was amazing as well. Every now and again you come across an excellent restaurant like the Art School. Excellent service, excellent food, and excellent wine - not much more to add really…except, perhaps, also an excellent and relaxing environment to enjoy a good meal.

Fine dining at its best! Credit to Paul Askew and his team. Always wanted to try this place and luckily was able to get a last minute booking to try their tasting menu. The scallops with langoustine bisque was the highlight of the meal for me. Scallops were so fresh and the richness of the bisque- perfect! Highly recommended!

The most expensive meal I have ever bought, but worth every single penny. We celebrated our anniversary here with the 9 course tasting menu. The food, service and atmosphere were exceptional. Been twice now, hash browns are a must! The scrambled egg is also so delicious, avocado overly lemony, and sausage patty too soft and moist it was off putting. The staff are so friendly and the coffee is to die for! Definitely try the honeycomb syrup

It was Ok but not great - sandwich fillings were not the best quality and should be given that you get one finger sandwich of each filling - prawn cocktail one especially cheap tasting The cakes were nice but again not great Views amazing staff lovely
