Nice pub, friendly staff, I wasn't there long enough to try the food but it smelled amazing

Disappointed in the lack of menu options for lunches in the week. A group of us come one a week for a catch up lunch, but sadly looks as though our venue will need to change as the only sandwiches available (not ideal for diets and dietries) staff (particularly Leah and Toyah) are incredible which is why we have been coming for so long.

Not much on the menu beginning of the wk not like before

I have been coming here for a long time but not sure if I will be able to come anymore. I bring my elderly mother and my grandson every week . We love it here as the staff particularly Leah and Toyah are fabulous. The problem now is the food choice or rather lack of! My mum has certain issues with food but we can now no longer go off menu (always accommodated her previously with a toasties as she really struggles with food) but now unable to select anything she can eat from the Mon to weds menu! No main meals are even offered! Also no kids menu so it looks like we will have to go elsewhere which is so disappointing. Please bring back the basics kids food...fish and chips. Etc... You will lose a lot of customers if this continues

This is my go to pub for lunch and have been going with my friend for a good while now...went yesrerday ..word for the new owners .don''t change what works, No turkey stuffing and cranberry sandwich , no soup by the cup , no sandwich and soup combo , no chocolate at the end when you pay your bill . Soup was nice still, and nice to see the same staff . BUT not happy with the changes to menu. The little chocolate at the end was a lovely little touch. I am not saying i wil not go back but i dislike change to popular choices .My mum and her friends who lunch in there already wont go again as theirr favourite sandwich has gone. BRING BACK THE OLD REGULAR MENU , if you are gonna change things , change the specials or when a season changes

Had a lovely meal with a few friends after my last day at work .

What a little gem of a pub. It is beautiful inside, with what looks like original architecture, fixtures and fittings. It has what a great pub should have, great beers, great atmosphere, comfortable and welcoming.

A proper local pub. No frills but everything done as it should be. And the little snug behind the bar is a special spot.

Probably the best pub in Stockport.

Warm welcome and given a choice of seating...chose the snug, and were shown through the bar to a cosy snug with original features including service bells (still in working order) . Such friendly and helpful service...it was no problem to tweak our order to suit... home made food and fresh ingredients. Delicious and well-presented. Great choice of drinks and our server was knowledgeable when discussing the order. Cosy characterful clean interior and good toilets. Would visit again.

Old fashioned traditional pub, but does also serve food which I did not try

A nice pub with good beers. It has live bands playing in the outside courtyard at weekends. They have heaters outside to help to keep you warm while watching the bands.

inconsistent Sunday lunch,lamb last month was lovely.This week,dry small chicken breast, disappointing, service also.

Had visited over 5 years ago for food (excellent), and for drinks only 2 months ago (they don't serve food between 2 and 4.30). This time 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our range of mains & deserts. Service was great, the Dizzy Blonde fantastic, and didn't break the bank. Won't leave it as long next time.

Proper pub in a proper location, can't fault it

Went for Christmas lunch with work. Food very nice, main meal could have been a bit warmer, but over all, one of the nicer Xmas lunches I have had. Staff were very pleasant and attentive and nice atmosphere, could have done with some Christmas music in the background, but overall a very pleasant experience and would go again.

Excellent food, great range of drinks, and fantastic staff. Really good prices for Christmas meal.

Tuesday 24th January 2023 This absolute fantastic un spoilt Robinsons real ale pub in Stockport is a credit to victoriana in side its building the bar is unspoilt and the rooms are a credit to previous and current landlords This pub must never be allowed to be split by any person wanting to make this a 1 roomed place Tuesday 10th December 2024 This pub visited today is an absolutely unspoilt Victorian gem.read last review above. The staff/owners are so friendly and nice the pub is a place which with its small unspoilt rooms and bar is something to experience the pub has 5 hand pumped ales on offer and there was christmas food on today the food look very good This pub is a must to visit when drinking in Stockport

Booked a table to meet friends for our Christmas get together. The food was excellent, lovely staff and a festive atmosphere. Many thanks for a great time. I have no hesitation in highly recommending them and will definitely see you all next year ! 😀

Very historic attractive pub, full of character. Excellent Robbies cask ales and listed by CAMRA. Virtually unique small parlour accessed through the bar. Often have live music in the yard. The cellar used to be a mortuary and the old stables still survive. There's even a blue plaque recognising Elizabeth Raffald. Friendly, lively atmosphere though the bushy haired barman could do with a lesson on customer service.

Faultless. Astonishing old style pub with separate areas and fires blazing in their grates against a grey, wet and miserable afternoon. Beautiful Robinson's ales and it's thanks to them I visited this afternoon.

We were very impressed with the food, the staff was lovely and attentive and the music played at that time was taking us back in time! And the toilets were clean and smelling nice. What more can you ask for! Thank you!

Nice pub in the heart of stockport just around the corner from Asda. I opted for the chicken and ham hock pie, chips, veg and gravy. All absolutely gorgeous. My friends had the Sunday lunch and it looked amazing. Staff really friendly and polite. Service impeccable.

Traditionally set up pub. Order at the bar then walk through the bar to get to a table. Proper casked bitter tastes great. Staff friendly and amused by my reaction to the layout.

Great beer garden and pints. Staff were very friendly. And dog-friendly. The venue is close but plenty of seating.

One of the last traditional pubs left in Stockport. Great food served by lovely staff. A really nice experience. Highly recommended.

Took my mum here for Sunday roast and we weren’t disappointed. Was hands down the best roast we have had in a long while. Really great portion size and quality, loved the gravy and home made yorkshires. Very happy customers!

The Arden has a good reputation for it's food and deservedly so. £12.50 for a roast of this quality isn't common these days, and it's one that satisfies. The other options on the menu have never failed us either

I'd never been there before, but it came highly recommended by friends. It's an olde worlde spacious pub that has a food menu with a large selection of hot or cold food. Very happy and I will go there again

The food was generally a miss this time. But the staff were incredibly friendly and made up for it. The dessert (the sticky toffee pudding with the sticky toffee pudding icecream) was absolutely delicious. I’d go back just for the dessert and the service. It was super quiet on a weekday evening even though the weather was lovely.

A great pub well known for its quality menu and selection of Robinson's real ales including the Iron Maiden named Trooper beer. Good outdoor facilities and a good venue for live bands. There isn't a designated car park.

Great traditional pub, a place where you can chat and enjoy the atmosphere, it has a large outdoor area where you can watch the planes descending into Manchester airport.

Went in the hope of getting a table for 2 for Sunday lunch. I did receive ring the Arden, and the lady on the other end of phone, was very helpful, saying they were fully booked, advising us that as there were just the 2 of us, they would be able to accommodate us, we plumped for Roast Dinner. All ingredients were high quality and the gravy was fabulous. The food and service is exceptional. Definitely recommended

We’re here visiting family and tonight we all ate at this nice pub. Small menu which offer’s plenty of choice. Fish and chips, Shepherds pie, Gammon egg and chips and two Burger specials which were all freshly cooked and very tasty. Trooper beer very good too. All served by a nice young man. Prices reasonable when we pay a lot more “down south” would definitely come back again.

Fantastic outdoor music venue with brilliant staff and welcoming atmosphere.

I was one of a party of seven booked in for Thursday lunch. I had been here before so knew what to expect. We were all delighted with the range and quality of food, the price, the beer, the atmosphere and last but not least the brilliant service. This pub is a Stockport gem.

What a lovely pub to visit. We called in, on the off chance, for our Sunday roast dinner. We were shown to our table, quickly and politely. The roast that arrived was delicious with quality ingredients and cooked to our liking 👍 Great local pub with a nice atmosphere and recommended 👌 Definitely will return 😀

Don't get into Stockport enough but when we do this is a must ! Incredably friendly staff - spontaneously start conversations - it's just like being on Tyneside but with different accents. Well kept beer and a surprisingly huge area outside. Gem of a pub.

Lovely homemade food - I'm stuffed!

I've been going to this place for over thirty years and it is brilliant. Obviously in this day, it has been taken over and has new owners, but it goes from strength to strength on their food offering. I don't visit often these days, but if wanting to bring friends for a lunch in the town centre, this will always be my choice as although Stockport is being ranked as brilliant, there are not many place to get a good meal. We visited on Monday and it was open (we find it odd that most places to eat in Stockport don't open on a Monday). The place was full and the atmosphere was great. We chose from the specials board and the food was fantastic along with the service. Staff are attentive and really look out for you to make sure you are enjoying everything and you are satisfied. We left extremely satisfied yet again and will be back again when we are next in Stockport. Two points that I would like to make: 1. The rustic chips are obviously out of a bag - real, home cooked chips would give this place 100% 2. The older lady server today (the one with the short hair and checked shirt), must have been having a bad day. We didn't get a smile from her. I would like to say, normally she is very friendly, but today, she seemed a bit off. The pub is a credit to the owners. The other ones in the area need to take a good look at how this place is so busy, it's because they do it right!

Brilliant, not your typical hostelry but you have to pay for quality and it shows in the food and beverages. This place has something to suite most pallets.

Food not as great as it used to be. Chips not great with loads of bits. Drinks too expensive.

Took our two grandchildren in, the lady serving us was fantastic with the boys, very welcoming, food great, definitely go again.

As a non chain pub the food was varied but of an excellent standard . The staff were friendly and polite. I just wish the younger generation was not so loud. Too much time plugged into their phones

Great food definitely worth a visit. This was our second visit we will definitely be back. The duck pancake starter and the fish pate followed by the salmon fillet on noodles were all delicious.

I used to frequent this place many years ago when traditional Landlord and lady ran it, Jack & Beryl, much like the Rovers Return back then, full of locals and regulars. Been a few times since then and it's still a busy sociable pub. Unique perhaps that one small room is accessible only through the bar service area. Always worth a visit.
