The Arch Restaurant in Hertsmere

Good food but I don’t understand why they are always pushing cash only when they have a card machine?? I enjoy the food but this needs to change.

I had a mixed shish, chargrilled lamb and chicken served with a salad (which was superb) and rice, before the meal they served pitabread and two sauces and I got some extra pita with the meal. All in all it was a great meal.

Went here last night got in there about 7-40 when we entered there was a couple of people sitting out front a couple of people in the take away section and a couple of tables inside the restaurant I thought to myself this is quiet for a Saturday night. The pints of Effs are not actually real pints the heads are so big you half a pint of froth the food is very mediocre I had mixed shish four very small pieces of chewy lamb and four very small pieces of chicken and very bland rice for £17-40 even my wife commented on my dinner saying how small it was a portion of hummus £6-30 I mean come on that’s a joke and they walk about with these latex gloves on what’s all that about and answering the phone whilst taking our plates away just pure rudeness and at the end you used to get some Turkish delight when questioned about it the guy say oh we ran out !!!!!! Errrr excuse me you are across the road from a massive Tesco When we left at 9-30 the restaurant and take away part was dead not a sole does that tell you something at 9-30 on a Saturday night this place had not a single customer they certainly will not be getting my money ever again You might be able to get away with scrimping on food but never scrimp on service

The best Turkish in Borehamwood and also one of the best anywhere. The food is always good. The staff are lovely for both takeaway and eat in. Also good value. I usually have a chicken Shish which is lovely. My wife has salmon shish which is also great.

Great Kebabs, fresh ingredients and amazing taste. Certainly the best in Borehamwood/ North London. Charcoal BBQ and friendly staff. Always impressed with the cleanliness of the resteraunt.

Very good food served well. If you go during the week they do a special deal for 2 courses. Indoor and outdoor seating. Kebabs are well cooked. Bread and dips supplied first free of charge. good value.

I have visited here many times over the past few years. Food and service are always spot on. I’ve been here solo and with work colleagues. Nothings too much of an issue, the food is always fresh and tasty. It’s not full of oil, as you can see from the photo, it’s cooked over coals. Hats off to the manager and staff for always smiling and giving great customer service. I’m very much looking forward to my next visit. 👍🏻

Located at the end of a bustling parade of shops, The Arch Restaurant is a deceptively large and spacious restaurant inside. A front takeaway kitchen area extends into a cavernous and interesting dungeon like interior. Full of pillars and tables. It offers comfort and privacy whilst still maintaining atmosphere. It also boasts an outdoor covered dining area perfect in the current pleasant weather. The seating is comfortable and beautifully maintained albeit a tad dated. The tables wobble. Mine did and so did the one next door. Irritating. Also the plates move on the table surface as you dig into your meal. Slight irritations but these things all make up the experience. Visible wheelchair access to the restaurant also. First up - Bread served with garlic and chilli sauce. The garlic was intensely garlic and the chili one was hot. The bread was good but I have certainly had better. Lamb Beyti - good taste. The lamb tasted really nice. The rice was okay if a bit bland. And accompanied with a salad. It was all a bit basic. That is not to say it didn’t taste good. Service here was friendly and staff were pleasant. The restaurant itself was clean and tidy. Toilets were clean. All in all, a decent meal but in this particularly crowded market of Turkish restaurants, The Arch holds no surprises and would not make me want to walk over hot coals to return. It’s good but so are the thousands of others similar restaurants of this cuisine that are available everywhere. There are a few however who elevate this cuisine to a far greater level. The Arch is not one of these. At an average, £15-19 for a main, the prices reflect the area rather than the cuisine. It is not the greatest restaurant I’ve visited but I enjoyed the food. I boxed the food I didn’t finish and took it away with me.

When eventually we got served the food was really good but the service was terrible. Too many staff and not one coming to the tables to serve. One group walked out and we were about to when someone appeared after we ordered some wine. It used to be so good with the main waitress was serving in the front of the restaurant. They shouldn't charge for service when there is no service.

Honestly, one of the best Turkish meals we've ever eaten. We shared the arch platter for two and there was absolutely more than enough. We ended up taking half of it home. The lamb ribs were particularly delicious; so salty and crispy! And all the sides; rice, griddled veggies, flavoured cous cous and salad, were fresh and tasty. And the bread to start was delicious and hot out the oven. Sadly, we are not local because if we were I think we'd become regulars!

We’ve had some lovely meals in here pre-pandemic but today was very disappointing. Moreso the lack of customer service, unfriendly, unwelcoming , felt like we were an inconvenience. Food was ok, although the banoffee pie was very thick and tasteless with too much sickly chocolate sauce on it. On the plus side, the decor is lovely and the toilets clean but that’s not enough to make us want to ever return sadly.

My husband ordered a turkish coffee. It came black and he went up to the bar to ask for some milk. The waitrose refused and said "that's how Turkish coffee is". That may be the case - but he should have been given the milk. When we came to pay we were charged for 6 meals when we only had 5. When we challenged this they agreed - but no apology. We will not be going back.

We have eaten at The Arch twice in the last month and also had a couple of takeaways. The food and service are excellent for both eat in and takeaway. The staff in the restaurant are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The price is also good reasonable considering the amount and quality of the food. We will defiantly go back.

One of our favourite Turkish restaurants so it is great that they finally got a listing on TripAdvisor. The marinade on the kebab meat is exceptional, making it always tender and delicious. Friendly staff make this place a real gem. Oh, and a generous helping of free Turkish delight to end the meal. What could be better?

Two of us enjoyed a lovely meal in this relaxed restaurant with friendly staff and excellent food. Big portions and great tastes. You’ll need to be hungry to manage Starters and Mains. We had the lovely cold mixed mezze with breads, mixed doner and vegetarian moussaka. No room for dessert but the espresso style thick black coffee was sublime! Small mix up with the bill was quickly and effectively sorted -always a good sign of a place with excellent customer service. If we lived near this place we’d be here all the time. Would highly recommend.

First time back after many years and we were presently surprised. Food was plentiful, fresh and tasty. Lambs liver were cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and very accommodating and the ambience of the restaurant pleasing. Felt like we were on holiday. So glad we tried it out again and will definitely become a regular for us.
