Lovely cakes and food all reasonably priced but make sure you book in advance if you want an inside seat

WOW WOW WOW! If I could rate Apple Tree with 10 stars I absolutely would! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recently visited for Afternoon Tea a couple of times , and most recently for a Prosecco 3 Course Breakfast to celebrate my Mums Birthday. Presentation of the table was made special with candle and decor on it, which was a nice surprise to arrive to. The staff could not have been more helpful, my mum suffers with Intollerances and they did the best they could to make swaps/exchanges or cater for her the best they could. We were not rushed from the table and every course was presented to us with perfection. Hot food was piping hot, and was clearly fresh - exactly what you want! Liv our server, I have to say is one of the BEST waitresses I have come across in a long time. Her customer service is impeccable and if employee of the month is a thing, she deserves it! Nothing was ever too much trouble, and just feel she gave amazing service which is not always the case these days when eating out. Would 100% recommend anyone to The Apple Tree Cafe, I have visited a few times and never been disappointed. My advice if you are wanting to sit inside would be to book in advance as they do get booked up fairly quickly. There is alternative seating in a barn outside that is cosy - this is through the hatch service for ordering. Thankyou again for creating such a wonderful place to meet with family and friends ❤️

Very pleasant, helpful staff despite it being an extremely busy lunchtime. Staff were all very helpful, patient and welcoming. As expected, there was no room indoors (need to book this well in advance), so we chanced upon sitting in the barn, but when we arrived, all 6 tables were full. Sat outside, cold wind despite the lovely sunshine and soon became chilled. Eventually we took our coffees into the barn once there was space; it felt fresh next to the large, open gates, but an improvement from outdoors. Good food selection and I ordered the all-day breakfast, my husband their quiche. Breakfast duly arrived but sausage, bacon and gash brown had clearly been kept warm for some time and were rather dry and spoilt. Poached eggs were only just warm, but tasty as were the lovely mushrooms. The baked beans were the only hot item on my plate. Lovely peashoots with two fresh cherry tomatoes of which two were warmish and grilled. Husband's individual quiche was warm and very tasty, served with a good potion of delicious mixed salad, consisting of baby leaves. Pea shoots, fresh raspberries, cranberries and blueberries too! We finished with a tasty piece of home-baked style layer cake each and the most amazing mug of hot chocolate. Presentation throughout was delightful.

Bring my gran every week. 94 years old and loves her visits to the apple tree Staff are always welcoming and cannot do enough We normally sit in the barn, and can be abit chilly but gran loves the hot water bottles and blankets on hand

We stopped here for a quick lunch. The place was crowded and we had to sit outside although it was a little chilly. All of the undercover space in the barn was taken. We had sandwiches and coffee which came to £27 which seemed a little pricey for what they were. Food looked nice but a bit disappointing flavour-wise (spicy tuna was not a good idea after all) Staff were friendly, although ordering through a hatch in the wall felt a bit like being in the pandemic again.

Had afternoon tea there today, it was amazing, food and service was worthy of a 10 from me, would definitely be going back again 😀 😋

Still our favourite coffeeshop in the Derby area. Great food, coffee, atmosphere. Best scones I've ever had! Recommend booking if you want to sit indoors.

What a lovely cafe and outside area. I met a friend there and was so impressed with the friendliness, service and quality of food and drink on offer. Parking was easy as you can use the pub car park over the road. The little gift shop is an added bonus as so many lovely gifts and cards to look at. Love the breakfast and the coffee is gorgeous. Love this place.

I received a voucher for the prosecco breakfast and not sure why it took me so long to use it! I checked the menu ahead of time and saw how generous this particular menu choice was. We booked it at lunch time to account for this and still took the final course 'to-go'. Plenty of delicious food and choices. The atmosphere is just right and we were tucked away nicely at the back. The gentleman who served us throughout the meal was attentive and friendly. Lovely place, great food, and superb staff.

We really enjoyed our time here, the staff was lovely and the food was gorgeous, I will be coming here again for another afternoon tea 😄

Lovely little cafe with great service and amazing cakes!

Amazing! First time visiting today and wow.. I think it will be my new favourite place! Staff are all super friendly and lovely, food was incredible, drinks lovely and I love the addition of the gift shop! It’s a 30 min drive for me but definitely worth it and will be suggesting this to everyone for a meet up!

Great range of dishes. The coffees are great and the full English is very filling. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff which makes you want to come back and try more.

Visited The Apple Tree multiple times over the last year or so, always had amazing food, drinks and staff every time we’ve gone. Attached are a number of photos from the times we visited.

The Apple Tree is a lovely place with first class service and amazing food. We visit quite often as we live locally. I was however a bit concerned on my last visit to observe a woman place her lap dog on the throw on the chair and then allow it to walk across the table and eat from her crockery. Honestly it's all well and good if you practice this at home but please try and respect other users of this beautiful place .

First time visiting this gorgeous place today. I'd booked the 3 course prosecco breakfast for my friend's birthday. It was amazing. After much deliberation, I opted for the granola with yoghurt and fruit and the cooked breakfast, whilst my friend had the waffles. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. The best breakfast I have had anywhere. The staff are lovely and so friendly. I took home a piece of chai carrot cake (stunning!). I also had a look around the gift shop and brought a couple of items. Lovely place, really recommend it. I can't wait for my next visit!

The first time we had been to this cafe, we were late in the day, arriving and didn't realize what time it closed ,so was not able to look round the shop which looked really nice, the food we had was great,so we will definitely be going back.

I regularly visit The Apple Tree with family and friends. The quality has never wavered! I highly recommend any of the hot chocolates and the cakes are to die for! The staff are always extremely friendly and professional, they make you feel welcome and it’s always a lovely treat to take a trip there.

Great little place lovely food and drinks friendly staff, i always go for a treat with my daughters they love it to very quirky, the gift shops as lots of nice jewellery, bags, candles, flowers and much more, you can even get takeaway cakes 😍 parking is great too the pub across the road kindly lets you park in there, we’ll be definitely be coming back soon I recommend it to all my friends 5*

My husband tasked me with finding somewhere new we hadn’t been to before for brunch and this absolute gem of a place ended up being my choice. I’m so glad I did choose it too. Definitely reserve a table though as it was busy. From the moment we arrived to when we left, the staff were outstanding. We’ve been to many places to eat and I am always left feeling disappointed when the friendliness of staff seemed forced and not genuine, it most definitely was not the case not here. A massive thank you to the wonderful staff for their exceptional customer service! My husband and I enjoyed it so much we’ve booked again in a few weeks time with friends. If you’ve booked a table inside, go through the front door of the gift shop. Parking is across the road in the local pub. Quirky gift shop to peruse around after you have eaten. Plenty of seating outside too. I ordered the French Toast and my husband had the English Breakfast and both were delicious and cooked to perfection. We also could not resist the cakes, so took some home with us. They also do Afternoon Tea, which is priced at £22 but looked amazing as the table opposite to us were having this, again book for this and I’m sure you’ll not manage to eat it all and will be taking some home. Everything that was being served looked top notch and all of the cakes, tray bakes and scones (sweet and savoury) looked scrumptious and huge. What are you waiting for, visit this adorable cafe.

Brilliant, food delicious will certainly be going again

While living not too far away on the other side of Derby this was our first visit to this lovely establishment. We were cashing in on a Christmas voucher for an afternoon tea from one of our children! So excellent value for money! Booking 2 weeks In advance is probably a hint to the popularity of the Apple Tree. All I need to say is this was an excellent experience - friendly service, excellent food and a great ambiance! Often an afternoon tea will not fill me but this time we had to box up the last couple of cakes! There was even clotted cream left over! Well done and thank you Apple Tree - we’ll be back!

Beautiful little gem of a place! The afternoon teas were absolutely amazing, and the little gift shop was very well stocked. Will definitely return. Parking was tricky, but we just parked at the pub and walked down.

We went today for afternoon tea we were very impressed with the service and politeness of all the staff. The food was delicious with plenty of variety. We hope to see you all again soon.

Such a lovely cafe and gift shop! We hadn't pre-booked so we were invited to sit in the converted barn area. The atmosphere was lovely and the barn was decorated with fairly lights and had a wood burner and scattered blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm. The service was excellent. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Extremely quick service despite being almost full. You can also park at the back of the Queen's Head pub which is a 2 mins walk away, which means you're not blocking residents' drives. I got waffles and my partner got the full monty breakfast bun. It was beautifully presented but also lived up to its looks and was delicious. Would recommend and hope to return soon - thank you!

Yet again, we had a stunning lunch at this unique establishment. The welcome was friendly, the service was excellent with a smile and the food exceptional. The waitress even said she’d discount our food as it could be considered part of an afternoon tea. Great value for money- we even took some Rocky road home with us. I can’t recommend this cafe highly enough but to get a table you will need to book ahead.

Was really looking forwards to going here as I hadnt been before and had heard rave reviews. Unfortunately, i was waiting an hour for avacado, poached eggs and salmon on toast. When it did come the egg was not runny. That could have been forgiven but after waiting an hour, I was deflated. Yes, i was informed of a wait on food, which was said to be 20 mins, but it ended up being an hour. Maybe could have done with more staff as the sun is out more. I do also think it was a bit over priced for one slice of bread and one poached egg with the rest. Other than that, the staff were friendly, and the outside area was nice. My mum also loved her cake.

the breakfast burrito was probably one of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had. The coffee is excellent too. The outdoor shed is a good option to sit in if you're unable to book a table. I also got a slice of cake to take away and a little treat box for my nieces, the tiny cards are a lovely touch

Appletree is a lovely place to visit . I've been a few times now , I went yesterday with my friend for afternoon tea . It was a treat for me for my 70th birthday which was in August ( still celebrating ). The tea is the best I've had & my friend enjoyed it too . Choice of rolls where very nice & so was the choice of small cakes. Staff were very friendly. Thankyou for making it special 💗

Lovely little place. Their breakfast for me is so so good. They charge the same as big chains, yet with their breakfast I am full until at least 5 in the afternoon. The staff are lovely as well.

Me and my partner came across this magnificent place over a year ago now and we come as much as we can !!! I love it so so Much !!!!! the service is always amazing especially the gentleman with the longer hair (I don’t know his name) we have had the pleasure of sitting inside, outside and also in the beautiful barn, the decor in the barn is so lovely and cosy. We come with our pup and he’s always made welcome with treats and water bowls available and pup cream. Your gift shop is gorgeous !!! Your cakes are fabulous And your breakfasts are amazing If I could come every day I would 🤍🤍🤍🤍

Tried the Apple tree for coffee on Sunday afternoon 1.30ish , busy with long wait to order , food coming out looked amazing , wished I’d come for food .😋 We just had coffee & shared a Brie, fig & walnut scone which unfortunately was rock hard but coffee was nice , learned later they shut Tuesday & Wednesday to bake as everything is made fresh on site , hope our scone wasn’t made on Tue/wed as that would account for it being hard Apart from that lovely little place and would definitely recommend

Lovely place. Our first visit, but we will return. Very friendly and focused staff. Great quality food that was nicely presented. We sat in the barn which had a charm of its own. We later saw inside the tearoom and that looked really nice. The place had a buzz to it. Some people getting takeaways, some people with well behaved dogs. On reflection I would have preferred to delay my coffee until the food was served. A good selection of greeting cards in the shop, and cheeses in the Deli.

First time visiting and will certainly not be the last. Had a fantastic couple of hours having afternoon tea. Staff were brilliant ,food was amazing and I love the vibe of the place.

The Appletree is consistently excellent! I come frequently with friends and family, the food is just excellent both sweet and savoury! Most recently we had afternoon tea and it was delicious! The coffee is great which is very important! I’ve been coming here a long time and it goes from strength to strength, the recently opened barns are so beautiful and cosy with the log burner. Just a great independent local business!

Firstly there is not enough stars to give this beautiful coffee shop. We travel to the Apple tree weekly if we can and have a breakfast and a coffee. If busy we just grab a take out. We don’t live local, but still happy to go here. We have had lunch, afternoon tea and breakfast. The staff are always happy and provide outstanding customer service. Everything about the Apple tree is exceptional. We have been visiting ever since they opened. Lucy and team you do amazing work. Keep it going. Everybody needs to experience this place. All our family visit too. They have a nice gift shop and do afternoon tea experiences, which are great presents for Mother’s Day. No doubt we shall see you guys Sunday 9.30

Visit the appletree at least twice a week, friendly staff, they always know I have a gingerbread latte Fabulous cakes and ice cream, highly recommend the crunchie ice cream tub

Stopped there by chance. Setting was very pleasant however our first three food choices were not available. Fourth choice for one of us was ok, the other was poor (fatty bacon and an over cooked sausage). Staff very pleasant. Will try them another day, a Monday doesn’t appear to be a good day to visit

Excellent Full Monty Cob for breakfast in their beautiful outdoor barn seating area. Great little place and some stunning looking cake that I had boxed up for later.

Visited here today Monday 21st August 2023 for breakfast arriving 09.30 and managed to get a table inside.. A very good menu with lots of choice and competitive prices. We ordered Eggs benedict for the wife and me a Full breakfast. Drinks arrived quite quick and then the food. My breakfast was well presented but was let down by being luke warm and was disappointing for me. Was really looking fwd to it as we had a voucher from my daughter for fathers day.

Visited this great tea room a few times before Covid. In a pleasant diversion from the M1 we were delighted to see how it has thrived after lockdown. Food and drink excellent and good service.

One of my favourite local spots! Food is always delicious, there’s loads of options, and the outside courtyard is lovely.

Hmm... Mixed feelings. I had a lovely time with my friends for afternoon tea which we pre-booked. We were very full and took food home. However I feel as if a few things need to be mentioned as constructive feedback. This is only my personal opinion not to put people off but for the cafe to continue to do well and maybe make a few tweaks to improve. First I must say that this is a lovely little cafe and gift shop. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was nice but there felt a little disparity in the presentation. This was an Afternoon tea at £20 per head. I expect Afternoon tea to be dainty, canapes, posh sandwiches and china which we got to a certain extent but there was room for improvement. The tea was served in lovely tea pots and was replenished when it ran out, lovely matching proper dainty china tea cups and saucers and lovely china plates, very Jane Austen style afternoon tea party. However the food was served on an industrial looking two tier stand which had a guard around each tier. It was very cumbersome and hard to get food out of, not in keeping with the china afternoon tea and it didn't make sense to me. This didn't obviously distract from a lovely afternoon but was a bit odd. The sandwiches or rolls/cobs were on the top tier and were nice but could have been better. There was also Quiche. The sandwich fillings were nice if you like cheese and pickle, salmon and cream cheese and ham but when paying £20 per head I expected a bit more. I'm not sure what but it was a bit underwhelming. I don't know maybe I just expect more than what I would normally have at home when going out and paying someone to prepare my lunch! The cakes also looked nice, tasted nice and were plentiful but could have been better. For instance there was a giant fruit scone which was slightly over baked and a little too dense for me and there was a huge slab of millionaire shortcake which would have been nicer cut smaller also a tiny lemon meringue tart (which was amazing!) and a sponge cake with strawberry cream which was so sweet it hurt my teeth and I couldn't finish it. The sponge was also a little dense but I'm being picky as I bake a lot!. I think that's the issue for me, on one hand we had a dainty little tea party then on the other we had the opposite. It didn't quite go together but this really is an easy fix by using a china 3 tiered cake plate in keeping with the rest of the presentation/experience of afternoon tea. Also having the cakes cut into smaller pieces especially when sharing. I must say that I loved the lemon meringue; the pastry was just right, the lemon curd was tangy and sweet and the meringue melted in your mouth it was delicious! It was just the right size too.

Lovely cosy place to eat with outside dining weather pending. If eating inside best to book as there is only a few tables. Lovely gift shop with lots of special items for special people. Oh and I forgot fabulous cakes....watch that waistline!!

In all honesty, I only went for the Sundae. It was a great spot to stop by and enjoy the sunshine!

Wonderful tea, cake , coffee shop with cute shop for gifts as well . We mostly sit outside and in great barn which is superb to sit with dogs and more relaxed for kids too and space for pushchair/ wheelchair. Even hot water bottles and blankets and a fire and fairy lights . It really is lovely . Only downside is it closes early at pm and closed on Tues and Wed . Highly recommend. If you like cakes you will be delighted by range and quality.

My daughter took me for brunch on Mother’s Day and we both had the full breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. It was lovely to have it cooked for me for a change and all ingredients were cooked well and top quality. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the shop is also gorgeous. Exceptionally well presented and they sell lovely things.

Food was lovely, but for the price I was expecting a full salad not just lambs lettuce and 1 baby tomato, that to me is a garnish, menu states a salad.

Went for one of the afternoon teas this afternoon. The food was really nice and enjoyed my time there. However, unfortunately all the cakes included nuts and I have an intolerance to them. When I brought this up I was advised when I booked I should have been asked about allergies but I hadn’t been when I called. Other than that it was a nice time.

Very mixed feelings on this one - great food products and cooking, nice presentation, a bit high prices and very little capacity. Place is split in the booking only sitting area next to the gift shop, the little yard with a couple of benches and two more tables and a converted barn area with some more tables, first come first serve - which is where we got to. Visited on Saturday afternoon, no booking, found a corner of a table that some lovely ladies were willing to share before they left fairly quickly. Went to order at the counter with 3 people ahead of me and for an inexplicable reason it took 25 minutes standing to place an order. Thankfully the food arrived much quicker - very happy with the eggs Benedict although not exactly a large portion, happy with the almond cake and satisfied with the lemon scone, the sultana one had sadly sold out. Polite staff, nicely decorated, there were plenty of dogs around and it was definitely family friendly. Quite more expensive than what I'd expect for a place in the outskirts of Derby but justified in part for the quality. Felt a bit like a London situation in the Midlands, would visit again if it was during "quiet hours" and I knew I could enjoy it without spending the best part of the hour to find space to sit and try and order.
