Menu looked pretty good but we didn't get as far as ordering food because the lady behind the bar was very abrupt and really rude. Thought we would let it slide and then got served a drink in a filthy glass which made our minds up. Real shame as the pub is nice and the beer garden was very clean but we won't be returning.

This is a review of just the food and not a stay as trip advisor doesn't allow a separate review. We visited for Sunday lunch and the whole pub was empty at 1pm apart from a table of 4 with just tea and soft drinks.... first red flag. After being given a laminated menu which incidently in no way shape or form resembled the online menu that we had viewed before arrival, we chose roast beef and waited for our food to arrive. Roast was priced at £15.95 each so surely we could expect great things....? The dining room was cold, dated and very uninviting so we chose to sit in the bar. Strangely, no aroma of Sunday lunch whatsoever.... The pub had zero atmosphere or personality and our hearts sank when a dirty box with dirty mayo and ketchup bottles was brought to our table, with roast? On closer inspection there were even dirtier salt and pepper pots too.... we didn't partake. When our meals finally arrived we were at a loss for words. Aunt Bessie yorkshire pud took centre stage, the potatoes that had been described as golden roast potatoes on the menu, weren't, the beef was sliced by machine? thin, overcooked and a cheap cut ( think frozen Findus back in the day!), carrots, cauliflower and yellowing broccoli ( overcooked) completed the 'roast'. No sauces were offered and the best part of the meal was the gravy... The highlight of the meal was when the 'chef' came through to the bar half way through our meal and stood 6 feet away with his dirty towel/ teatowel tucked into his waistband... not sure if this could be called a badge of honour, perhaps just the benchmark for the pub in general really. Nobody came to the table to ask if everything was OK, it wasn't, if anyone cares, and after being mugged for a very mediocre meal we practically ran out of the pub, hungry and deflated! In the current climate I would love to be able to write a glowing review. We certainly try to eat out as often as possible but this is one establishment that should be given a wide berth. As a customer cleanliness is a must, please take note. Let this beautiful, old pub shine through and ditch the fairy lights, take the Christmas stickers off the windows, show some friendliness and customer service and PLEASE find someone who knows how to cook a good old fashioned Sunday lunch!! We most definitely won't be repeating this experience.

We booked as last minute guests while on a road trip across the country. Our room was a huge surprise! Well equipped, clean and comfortable. We booked a table for dinner and the staff were amazing and very attentive throughout our meal. The food was lovely and my husband was very pleased with his steak, which he said was cooked perfectly! We stayed for breakfast too and was served a good sized English breakfast, with plenty of toast and jams too. All in all our stay was pretty much perfect and we will visit again when over that side of England. The only thing I’d quite like to see next time is some more Vegan and meat free options for breakfast. ( my husband and I just swapped some food and made it work, which was fine) Thank you for such a lovely stay!

Dropped in with a friend for a quick drink. We sat quietly and discussed our personal lives. We spoke very quietly and we did not want to be overheard or interrupted. The lady behind the bar loudly informed us that as a Belarusian woman she could assure us that we were to blame for our personal issues. She then went on to sternly bark her advice as to how she believed we should live our lives. She then spoke to 2 other female staff members in their home language and clearly spoke about us as there followed over-the-shoulder looks in our direction and loud laughing. I am unsurprised that this particular pub was void of customers. It was empty apart from my friend and I. We ventured quickly across the road to the better pub in the village where several people were enjoying their privacy, a warm welcome, open fires with logs burning, and more importantly……friendly staff!!

Went for lunch with 3 friends. We ordered 2 starters 1 being olives which came with toast & olive oil + balsamic. We had to ask for the toast which was barely toasted & the olive oil+ balsamic dip never arrived. There was one vegan option which looked wonderful being an Asian salad with noodles easy choice for the vegan in the group - me. Unfortunately it wasn’t available & the only other option was a bowl of chips or jacket potato. The chips were not good & I left most, my friends also thought the same about their chips. No vegan dessert. All in all a disappointing lunch. I won’t be going again.

We booked a table for a retirement lunch at the Antilope and I for one won’t be returning. The restaurant didn’t seem very busy when we arrived. Only one member of staff was taking orders/serving and service was really slow. We placed our orders and waited. One of our party of eight had to leave after we waited for over an hour for the food. He had already told the waitress, at the time he ordered, that he had to leave by a certain time because of a meeting he had to get to. The waitress recommended to him to order a burger as that would be quicker. When the food finally arrived, we told the waitress that our colleague had left and asked her to wrap up the food. She never apologised for the delay, just placed the food on the table (she didn’t offer to keep it warm in the kitchen). The food was fine, nothing special, and we had to ask whether we should go to the bar to pay after we finished our meals/drinks. The waitress never asked whether we wanted to order anything else. I went up to pay for myself and one other person. The waitress then had to get another lady (I assume she was the landlady) as she couldn’t work out how to split the bill. I wanted to pay for two mains and two drinks, but it all seemed very much of a hassle to them. I was paying for two drinks, one pint, one half pint, and was told that they are the same price (Diet Pepsi). I queried that and was then told a pint was £3.80 and the half was £3.30. When I noted that seemed expensive, the landlady told me in a very rude manner “well, that is just how much things cost now, you will just have to pay it”. I then queried that again, and also noted that because we waited so long for our food a discount may be appropriate. The landlady was not happy about that at all and continued to be rude towards me. She told me that I did not have the right to complain about the service. In the end she did agree to not charge me for the small Diet Pepsi. I certainly won’t be returning.

Three of us visit during August 2020 (eat out to help out). The two people I was with had visited the previous week, one had the steak and on that occasion was very happy with it. So when we visited we all decided to have the steak (sirloin). It was very disappointing, I can only described what we were served as sandwich steak, it was very thin and should not be described as steak. I would say that there weren't enough chips or other vegetable either. We realise that we should have complained at the time, but felt we shouldn't, these are difficult times for village pubs and restaurants. I will also mention that the menu was very limited, although this might be because some places were reducing their menus to take full advantage of the gov't scheme.

What a disappointment. I last visited often a few years ago when the chef Kevin produced food that was exceptional in quality, presentation and flavour. I am afraid the food and drink on this visit was of poor quality. The steak ordered medium-rare was over done. The chips were deep fat fried, greasy and flavourless. The salad was yellow, basic and unimaginative. The coke and lemonade tasted stale and disgusting. The food quality is what I’d expect from a chain restaurant at a motorway services not that of a country village pub. I’m sorry but I will not be visiting again.

The baguettes were served with a rather limp looking salad, slightly burnt and uninspiring. The nachos were so bad, served with cream and not sour cream, a tiny pot of guacamole and a strange salsa. It came with jalapeños peppers, houmous and cucumber! Not sure if this was to make up for the lack of guacamole! The young lady serving us was very nice but the older lady very scary! MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is our 4th stay at The Antelope over the past few years. Unfortunately the previous owners left a couple of weeks ago and the new owners have much work to do, particularly in relation to customer service and serving breakfast. Whilst the new manager is polite and welcoming, his wife/partner is very definitely brusque and at times, almost rude. When we asked for a hairdryer she argued that there was definitely one in our room which there was not. Despite some confusion regarding our room booking for 2 nights, we were given the room we had requested. It was clean but the duvet cover was torn in 2 places and there was a meagre supply of tea and coffee. The bathroom had a lovely sunken bath and separate large shower which would have justified the £100 per night if it were not for the chaotic nature of breakfast on both mornings. The manager's wife was managing breakfast and quite simply doesn't have the customer care skills required for front-of-house working. In between sitting outside smoking cigarettes, she was in the restaurant but working on her own and unable to keep up with the work. Tables were not 'set' for breakfast and it was unclear as to what they were serving and where things were e.g. Tea, coffee as the manager's wife just didn't explain anything and seemed quite disineterested. Previously used tables remained uncleared for the whole breakfast period. Cereals, milk, jam, juice and a cofffee machine were on the bar and also a hot water 'boiler' which 'spurted' boiling water out of the machine almost burning people as they made a cup of tea. Our order was taken wrong on both mornings and we were challenged on our choices e.g. I ordered bacon, susage, beans and toast and was told, "well that's only half a full English, are you Welsh or something?". On the second morning, my husband asked for white bread and butter and was given toast. He again asked for bread and the lady loudly put the toast plate on the next table, clapped her hands (most bizarre), returned with the bread, clapped her hands again without speaking!! On leaving, they attempted to charge us for breakfast which we challenged and this was taken off the bill. Be aware, breakfasts are now only 'continental' and if you require a full English, you will be charged an additional £7.50 per breakfast. Whilst the chef cooked a good breakfast, this is spoilt by the attitude, behaviour and ambience of the manager's wife. There was also the matter of the cleaner repeatedly walking through the breakfast room with 4 children in tow during breakfast times. The manager was very happy for our feedback this morning and we did acknowledge they have only been running the Antelope Inn for 2 weeks so still very much work in progress. We wish them well and hope to return in the future but only if the service improves. The whole pub/restaurant/rooms require minor returns to 'freshen' the place and justify the rates.

The beef was perfect on the side of rare which meant a melt in the mouth taste and the homemade horseradish was a nice touch. Service was fantastic and we both agreed for the quality of the food the price was excellent. As The Antelope Inn is not local to us we have put it in our sat nav so if we are ever in the area we can visit again. Though we noticed the ensuite accommodation so I might persuade the husband for a break away. What a lovely find I am a bit stuffed now though!

We returned to stay at The Antelope almost one year from our first visit. The accommodation for a country pub is far above average. Since our last visit, 3 more rooms had been built. All beautifully and tastefully appointed - amazing bathrooms. Linda and Jim - great hosts, amazing breakfast and pub food. Excellent stay!

Can only give it 1 star as our food never arrived. We were in on a Sunday and were told the kitchen had been busy but was still open. Our drinks arrived but after over an hour's wait we asked about our lunch and were told there was no record of the order. At the same time they told another customer that there was a long wait for food so we gave up. The building itself is an interesting old place with timber beams

Night out in a proper country pub in Upavon. Good selection of ciders, lagers and ales including Wadworths beers. The friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Good pub menu and specials board. Pizzas were excellent and seafood risotto a big dish. Hot food, generous portions. Good service - nothing too much trouble. Tables busy and a great atmosphere of diners and drinkers.

Hungry after visiting the Urchfont Scarecrow Festival our family were looking for a suitable eatery for our dinner on the way home. Came across the Antelope Inn in Upavon on a Bank Holiday Sunday at around 5pm. Were they serving food - yes they were. Menu had good selection, starters around £6 - we had nachos and pate, they were very tasty, good size portions and beautifully presented. Next for mains, 28day aged rump (£14), Morrocan Lamb and the chicken curry (both £11). Steak was beautiful and came with thick cut chips (v good), mushrooms, tomatoes and salad. The other two dishes were very tasty with lots of big pieces of meat in the sauces. We finished off with choc sponge and sticky toffee sponge (£5). Again good sizes portions nicely presented. (maybe from Costco?, but they tasted good!) So all in all a very good meal, nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and a happy family! Would we come back - definitely! We live almost an hour away - but have saved it in our satnav!

We went to this this pub having bought a steak and wine Groupon voucher. The lady behind the bar was really welcoming, friendly and chatty. She let us pick out table and sorted our drinks out. Having chosen our staters they soon arrived. Now I like my food hot and oh boy didn't they achieve that. Our mains came out once we'd finished and again it was delicious. There is one word of warning is give you about going to this place, don't eat for a day or two before as the portions are huge !!! You most certainly get your monies worth and I'd have no hesitation in returning for sure.

We came in for a bite to eat on Sunday, my companions had the Sunday Roast, I ordered the Wild Mushroom Ragu. The waitress told me this could be served as a Sunday roast as well and I went along. When the food came out we were really disappointed. Chainsaw needed for the potatoes, cauliflower cheese was cold, broccoli was watery, not a lot of lamb for the gents and my Ragu came sloshing in its dish. If it had been served with some bread or rice I could at least have mopped the liquid up.When I asked the waitress about the mushroom soup, she just said the chef always cooked it like that and that was it. Maybe the chef should spend a little more time in the kitchen and less time behind the bar, chatting..Full price charged for all three of us,(+-£12 not cheap for a sunday roast) whereas I had only managed to fish some of the mushrooms out and left the rest of the dish. I felt cheated.A chef that cannot cook a Sunday Roast and clearly has no idea what a ragu should be like brings this place down. Such a shame, since it seemed a nice pub. Will not return.

However the food wasn't great atall, Curry that was unedible (tasted like perfume) Ham was tough so only ate the chips & over cooked hard egg! We didn't even bother with pudding as the mains were a let down. Shame as it's a lovely Pub, I would return but only for a friendly drink.

Two of us went for lunch and it was the worst meal and staff attitude I have experienced. I had sausage and mash but the potato wasn't even mashed! And not just slightly poor there were several pebble sized bits of potato. The other meal was a chicken breast burger and the burger tasted as if it had just been lightly heated from the freezer. It was the driest chicken I've had.I complained and a middle aged, dark haired lady said she would go and speak to the chef... Then never returned but instead another waitress gave us the full bill... I waited still for someone to come and no one did so went to the bar and she simply said "thats just the way the mash comes sometimes (not mashed)". She didn't offer to reduce the bill or even offer an apology for the poor food and instead got into a strop and said "well if you aren't happy then don't pay", grabbed the bill and walked off. The only plus about visiting the area is that there's a pub over the road called The Ship which is nice

Sad to see a village pub closed more often than open but at least it is still trading.Popular with the former RAF Upavon lads, this village pub also offers a range of meals and has accommodation. During our visit in August 2015 the place was closed in the afternoons so we had to nip across the road to other pub.Even so, the place is open in evenings and weekends and well worth a visit if your nearby.

I had the new goats cheese and raspberry salad totally amazing, fajitas to share which came with a choice of chicken, steak or veg or combination of them all, the dessert was out of this world, marinated strawberries on a meringue nest with a strawberry/Cointreau syrup topped with ice cream. Stayed here whilst in Upavon for work and dined there in the evening for work dinner.I love this place!! Friendly welcoming staff, obviously dealt with different staff morning and evening and they were consistently friendly and helpful. Rooms are lovely and also spotless. And the food! Wow!! Firstly I have to praise them on how well they catered for our very large party when we dined there in the evening. Without exception everybody enjoyed their meal, testament to this is the fact that we all have our work dinner there every time we have a conference now! For what appears to be a relatively small establishment they managed to cater to a very high standard for a large number of people, very impressive.Breakfast was also delicious with no let up in standard and service even though there was only one lady singlehandedly catering for myself and the other colleague who had stayed over. Much prefer this to the 5 star hotel down the road I ended up in a few meetings ago!

We were drawn to this pub by the sign advertising the best pork-probably, and in fairness the pork was excellent and beautifully cooked a good choice of the veg although the roasties could have been better. There seemed to be a degree of chaos possibly caused by inexperienced staff. We should not have to ask for serviettes, and if you are going to serve half a pig on the plate do not serve apple sauce in an egg cup. I know you can ask for more and we did but again we shouldn't have to. Having said that it was a warm welcoming and comfortable pub.

Last Friday we visited the Antelope for a very special leaving do. We had pre-booked our table and food a week before. They were more than happy to cater for 30 people and said 'the tables would be all ready for you and food served from 7:15-7:30pm!' We all arrived around 6:30 to get some drinks in. First impressions were a lovely welcoming family-run pub and we were looking forward to the meal. We were called to the table just before half 7 to the back 'function room'. None of the tables were set up, instead there was a table that seated 6 people and 4 tables that seated 4 people all spread out around the room. The staff were very unwilling to help us so we had to set the tables up by ourselves, this took us round half hour!! We were then 2 seats short so 2 of our friends had to stay at the bar without us!! The young waitress then said that it would be easier to bring the starters and mains out together...so 5-10 mins later, the nacho starters arrived but NO mains! The first lots of mains which were the fish & chips were bought out around 20 mins later then next were the burgers around 15 mins later (by which point most people were already half way through their food). We also asked for sauces with our meal and they continued to bring out nearly empty ketchup bottles and brown sauce instead of the BBQ sauce we asked for! The steaks came out next - this was around 8:45pm. I asked specifically for medium-rare and my steak was 'over well done', even the steak knife struggled!! Those who had the fish & chips and burgers had already eaten their food and were still waiting for other people to be served their food! There were 3 absentees and so we informed them we would have 3 extra dishes. 8:55pm so still no sign of anymore food. One of our friends has diabetes and still hadn't eaten, nearly 2 hours after food was expected!! The waitress bought out more food, called it out, we explained all we needed was the fish cakes and 2 ham, egg & chips! She had bought out more steak which we explained wasn't ours but she said 'this is what you ordered, we're following the email you sent!'. She then left the food on the table to go cold whilst she disappeared back to the kitchen to fetch the food we had asked for. She returned with NO food yet again and said 'this food is for another table, sorry but the rest of your food will be out shortly' It was at least another 15 mins later, the fish cakes arrived very cold and dry then the ham, eggs and chips served on a scolding hot plate but with stone cold food! By this point, the majority of us had left the table to start paying separately for our food because it was now nearly 9:30pm!! It was very stressful and also very upsetting because this was a leaving do and we wanted it to be special for our colleague who was going back to Ireland and we wouldn't see for a very long time! It was probably around 9:45pm once everyone had finished eating and we had to form 'an orderly queue' at the bar to pay for our food! Emotionally and physically exhausted by the experience, we thought it was best to speak to the manager. We explained the situation, that we were very disappointed with a) the service b) the food and c) the fact the tables weren't ready for us and that 2 of our friends had to sit alone at the bar without us! The manager didn't seem to have a care in the world and said 'well you all still have to pay full price for your food!'. She then came back after some thought about it and offered us 3 bottles of white wine and said we didn't have to pay for the extra food that came out for our absent friends! Kind enough gesture but it was too late and not good enough!! They clearly are not organised, cannot cater for that amount of people and had the opportunity to say it a week before but were just clearly thinking of all the money they would make!! (sounds harsh but its true)! We did try to make a good night out of it and stayed until 12am - one of the young lads who worked there, bought out a bottle of Prosecco and apologised to our friend whose leaving do it was for. Very nice of him, its just a shame that sort of service wasn't available at the start of the night! To make matters worse, i had texts from two of my friends the next day to say that they had been violently sick (they had both had the fish & chips) and so put this down to food poisoning!! I cannot express how disappointed i am in this place, it has left a bad taste in our mouths and not a positive memory of what was supposed to be a lovely send off for an amazing man! VERY GUTTED AND WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!! P.S. We received an email a few days later from the manager apologising for the bad experience but that it wasn't THEIR fault that 7 YES 7 people did not show up for the meal hence extra food!! They also need to get their facts right as this was not the case, we had explained there were 3 people absent NOT 7!!!
