Very poor food. The fish and chips were awful - a cheap small frozen battered fish with minimal frozen chips and no peas despite being on the menu. If this was typical they are clueless.

Absolutely disgusting food don't eat here I never leave reviews but feel sick after eating here the steak baguette was full of fat and griscle, the chips were cooked in old oil and the fish was full of black lines we ordered three of them all the same obviously not cleaned properly and didn't taste very nice either, mushy peas were cold this kitchen needs shutting down we should have known by the menu only sandwiches, fish and chips and a couple of other strange dishes obviously being run by unexperienced staff as they were rude at the bar aswell

First time here we had a lovely big Fish and chips we enjoyed it very much,I had sex on the beach cocktail but I wasn't keen on that so I won't be buying that again,it's a very popular pub ,we thought they forgot our meal as it took a long time but being so popular I guess it would take awhile.

Food was at best average from the very limited menu, some of which wasn’t available . The bar/waiting staff need smartening up and training in customer service. The place is in an amazing location but it seems there is no pride or care in it which is a shame. Two sets of families will never return

Nowhere else available on a Sunday evening and so hungry from being out all day that we ate the prison style food that was served. Chef even came to the bar and wiped his nose on his sleeve leaving a snot stain! Hopefully won’t end up in A&E tonight! Score is actually zero stars.

We visited this pub on the harbour front yesterday on quite a misty day. Relatively quiet and therfore we were served quickly by a cheerful chap. Outside area could so with a tidy up but other than that can't complain.I had a steak baguette with onion gravy. Wow, what a delight. Who doesn't love a bit of steak with onion gravy. Would recommend. Cheers

Visited on 11th June at lunchtime. It wasn’t clear whether it was table service or you ordered at the bar, I went inside and was told it was table service and to wait outside where our order would be taken. We waited 45 mins for someone to come and take our order, two other tables outside had left by this point because we had all waited so long!! We ordered...the bar staff taking our order had no idea what drinks they had and had to go back inside to check??!! Eventually we got a larger and agin and tonic which was without doubt the worst g&t I’ve ever had. We quickly left and went to the palace vaults pub which was great. Avoid at all costs if you want good Service and a decent drink!!

Came in as the front looked lovely and we had been recommended by someone. As we went in it was unclear wether you had to wait to be seated or choose yourself. After a short time a woman came behind the the bar and said ‘you can just sit down’ we sat to the right hand side closest to the bar as you can get. The floor had bits of food all over and the table was wet and sticky with a left over spilt drink. The seats felt sticky also. Staff (who looked like they were dressed for a gym session) passed us at least 12/15 times and I tried catching eye contact/ waving for service as it is only table service. 2 other tables across from us were served before us (one after shouting for their attention quite loudly) and after an almost 20 minute wait we left without any further acknowledgment from staff. Really disappointed as it’s a beautiful location.

I had a nice family trip to Caernarfon Castle, kind of gutted of the maintenance work going but oh well.. it was a long day and hungry went to Anglesey Arms hoping to eat. The young waitress instructed me to sit outside and wait. Outside tables service only-understandable, but after over half an hour waiting, noone came to table, the man that just came has been served, but not us. Why?? I asked meaningfully if we can finally make an order but the young waiter told us that they dont serve food no more (?!!) Why not tell us when i asked that "lovely" and ignorant lady at the bar. Not happy. Left hangrier and disappointed. Will never come back again. Not for food or drinks, maybe just to listen to the country band. Guys were great. The only reason I didn't call them names cause I had all sorts in my head...

We visited for drinks about 3pm, great location with plenty of available tables overlooking the Menai straits. Staff were not organised and did not come round to take any orders- we asked three members of staff if we could order and were fobbed off each time. We were not the only ones and the place could be a goldmine with a little organisation and staff care.

Beautiful location. Arrived at 6:15pm and left at 7:15pm. During that time we asked three different people if we could order some drinks, apart from the gentleman their responses were poor; ‘I’m really busy’, ‘not much I can do about it, others came in first’ - they didn’t. We watched about 8 different tables come and get served after we arrived. So disappointing. I thought the hospitality industry would not want to loose trade. That table made them no money for that whole hour. We won’t be returning during our stay.

One way system into pub for the toilets, paper menus, track and trace so we found the pub to be very COVID safe. Ordered a scampi and chips, beef burger and chips - both were very tasty and nicely served. Lovely location with quite a lot of outdoor seating for good weather. Definitely will return.

As per the previous review we were blown away by the location. Set into the castle walls with a fab outlook. We only popped for a drink and wanted to drink outside in a glass. Fair do, the law says you can’t,so we ordered our drinks in plastic glasses. Turned around to see what was obviously locals drinking in glasses so I asked if we could have some and were told no. The barmaid said “she hadn’t served them”. I’d say some tlc is probably needed as it’s in such a prime location. What a shame....

We walked past the Anglesey Arms on a very very rainy afternoon and felt lucky to be able to book a table as so many places were fully booked with walk ins, or only open Monday - Wednesday for Eat Out to Help Out (a worry when summer season is over what will happen to all those restaurants). The location is probably the best in Caernarfon, looking out to sea over the harbour on the castle walls. We had high expectations. Many have commented about the place not being Covid safe, by the time we visited (last week of August) measures were in place. We were given a QR code to scan for track and trace, and menus were all paper and not resused. There were also fewer tables in operation. Agree that toilets would benefit from a revamp, particularly the ladies window opening into staff corridor. The first member of staff we met was very attentive and patient (we were a family group) but unfortunately we didn’t have his service again during the evening. We had to go to the bar to order drinks ourselves as nobody returned to check. There was no check back when food was served. We also had to ask for dessert menu, which was written on a napkin as no menus available. The food was the biggest disappointment, it was obviously all frozen and not “home cooked”. A few of us had fish which from a restaurant next to the sea, we expected freshly caught and battered, but received frozen deep fried fish instead. This place could be amazing with the investment in a chef/kitchen team to prepare even a smaller menu of fresh quality food. Staff training in customer care and meeting customer needs would also be advantageous.

The carpet was sticky with brown stains at the bedside. There was damp patches all over the ceiling which had been painted over. The beds looked like they'd been slept in and there were stains on the sheet and pillows. The windows were opaque with grime. The toilet,(we used as desperate)made a noise like a generator starting up when flushed and the toilet brush was full of what we think was rust.We could not stay and drove straight home, after complaining to the manager(a four hour drive).I would not recommend this place, which is a shame as it has such a fantastic locationThe place looks nothing like the photos. The staff were friendly in the bar downstairs but the tables were sticky and the floors the same.

Awful from the word go! Our table was given away to a walk in which left us sat between two open doors, it was blowing a gale. After complaining about this, a nice young lady managed to get us a better table. The quiche was distasteful and barely even luke warm. My partners burger was over cooked and the bacon was cremated, and the chips were soggy. When another waitress came over to ask how the food was I explained that it was terrible..... She just smiled as though I'd cracked a joke and walked away. The other staff were stood at the bar with their cheeks full of food the whole time. Not nice to look at! One of the older ladies who work there even coughed into her hand and wiped it on her jeans, then continued to eat her lunch in front of the customers. We settled the bill, and the staff didn't even say goodbye. The transaction went through and they literally just walked away without a word. I am a local and used to enjoy visiting the Anglesey arms, but I will not be eating there again! Such a shame!

I've just visited this place with my family, the guy seats us, barely cleans the table before we sit, a family on a table behind me so close I could have slapped the guys head, I'm like hello!, Coronavirus! The main problem is how dirty the place was, visually grubby, staff are clearly struggling with the changes but they are not up to standards on Covid, I regretted going there after we ordered, honestly avoid going here to eat. Certainly not inside. Needs a damn good clean, including one or two of the staff coming to think of it, seems harsh... whatever, absolute truth. No track and trace being used either, perhaps in Wales this is up to scratch, not in England. You live and learn.

Difficult times for everyone but this was a real challenge. The highlight was that the food was lovely, but be prepared to wait - grab a seat and wait to try and get someone's attention. The two people taking orders were also delivering food and drinks and they were simply over whelmed. The tables weren't cleaned between use and the menu was handed around table to table so don't expect to feel overly C19 safe. There was no track and trace info requested, this may be a Wales rather than pub specific factor though.

Stopped for lunch with a few mates, had a dog with us so needed somewhere dog friendly (plus points for that). I had the mussels and the others had the burger and steak baguettes. It was all fairly traditional pub food but that’s pub food straight out of the 70s/80s. Considering many places are upping their game and serving lovely food the Anglesey Arms disappoints. The prices aren’t bad but doesn’t make the food any better. It’s a shame as the location if great and it’s obvious that with any level of effort this could easily be one of if not the best pub in Caernarfon.

Me and my friend decided to grab some lunch in Caernarfon since we haven't been there in so long and we settled on going to one of our old hang out spots from many years ago. Upon entering the pub we were faced with a hostile environment, lots of glares from staff (this happened throughout our meal there it was very off putting). The server had no idea what the soup of the day was. He said either minestrone or vegetable. When it came out we couldn't work out which one it was, it was just a bowel of greesy, flavourless red liquid with over cooked veg. One of the worst attempts at soup we've ever tried. We also asked for a tuna sandwich... They had no tuna. Then asked for ham and cheese, suprise!! No Ham.... So settled on a fish finger butty. Highly regretted this decision when it arrived. The best part of the meal was the frozen chips. I have no idea what the salad was dressed with but I couldn't eat it. The fish and batter were grey and tasteless and a slice of lemon and a ramakin of tarter sauce was nowhere to be seen.. this is simple stuff! We ordered chocolate cake, one bite in and realised that too was inedible. It came with a very questionable brown sauce, not custard, more like warmed up Betty crocker chocolate icing or something.. alll in all literally one of the worst places we've ever eaten ever. Avoid!!! There were no apologies for the lack of food, the chef was moody and the place just lacked any form of atmosphere, we felt so awkward and were gutted we spent our money there (it was cheap either) I'm not sure if it's under new management bit don't remember it being such a dive...

We enjoy coming to The Anglesey, it’s always busy and great in the summer. However this Saturday evening we were sat outside enjoying the live music, when a waitress was cleaning up the glasses, she carried the glass ones back inside, and threw the plastic glasses into the sea. The was a large amount of plastic glasses just waiting to be washed out to sea. It would of taken 2 minutes to put them in a bag to recycle.

Yes, this ideally placed pub is a bit shabby and frayed at the edges...but the beer is great (try The Old Market brew) and the staff are very friendly. And at the end of the day, you can kick-back and enjoy the sunset across the estuary. What more could you want?

Had lunch with my wife in this historical old pub, the staff were friendly and the food was ok. However we noticed the seats were covered in food crumbs, and our table had a thick layer of sticky grunge, the whole place was dirty and in need of some basic cleaning, we couldn't wait to get out.

Had some lovely food here on the bank holdiday weekend but such a shame that the decor toilets and outside area of this place looks so grotty. The council obviously didnt have many working to clean up along the front. The pub had a flood in the ladies and the general decor was shabby which is such a shame as the food was great. You would think this being one of the only pubs on the front of the Castle more of an effort could be made. There was a singer to the front of the pub outside which in the most was good adding some atmosphere until he started singing rude in front of children about womens Ti*ts. We promptly left.

We drove north from London on a Friday night with a vague plan to head towards North Wales. After checking out the mainstream hotel groups and found them full my daughter booked two rooms here. Arrived after 11pm to a very friendly welcome. When they realised cheaper rooms were available than my daughter had booked they suggested changing them without prompting. A good night and a great breakfast. It’s by no means the Ritz but I doubt the Ritz has this quality of people running it. Many thanks for welcoming us. Oh, and the location!!!

We popped in as a family of six after a day of exploring. Attracted by the reviews on here, the views did not disappoint and being next to a beautifully lit castle. We arrived to a friendly welcome and an open fire being prepared. Our dog and young children were made welcome. We didn’t eat but enjoyed our drinks and friendly customers. Would definitely return.

Stayed at the Anglesey Arms for 2 nights for a trip to Snowdon. On arrival I was encouraged to pay for the room straight away, as it would appparently be busy in the morings for checkout. On being shown to our room I realised why... the room was freezing cold as the heating wasn’t working! I asked if there was any portable heaters available, but unfortunately it was being used in another room. After a very cold night and explaining again that this was not adequate, i was pleased to find a newly bought portable heater in the room after a day out. This improved the temperature in the room very well and was most welcome. After eating our breakfast (which was very nice) I discussed the heat issue with the owner and was pleased to be offered a refund of some of our bill as a good will gesture. Friendly staff and overall a good place to stay on a budget.

Vista fantastica, accoglienza impeccabile, locale molto carino in stile gallese. Abbiamo ordinato gamberi e cozze, tutto freschissimo anche se le cozze mancavano di sale, tutto accompagnato da ottima birra, prezzo basso per la qualità del cibo. Consigliato

I ended up having three dinners in a row here during the first International Bubble Festival being held at nearby venues. The staff was really lovely and let all us bubble folks fill their tables, change in and out of costumes when needed, and generally took good care of us. The food is hearty, tasty fair, reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Called here for dinner one night. Both of us had burgers which was very tasty. We sat outside to eat. The only complaint we had loads of dirty plates on tables outside that the seagulls loved

We stopped off here for lunch, service was ok, although we ordered starters and a main course, which both came at the same time, which did not make for a nice experience, due to the flies. Food was ok, not sure we would go there again.

We spend a couple of nights here on our holidays listening to the entertainment that had been provided whilst sat outside on the tables even though it was raining. It does have an inside restaurant which looked very nice to but was all booked up so instead we enjoyed a Home made Pizza which was made and cooked fresh outside in their ovens and enjoyed it along with a few drinks to. Had an excellent couple or nights out their. where you can also enjoy the wonderfully views of the Menia straights

I had not been to this harbourside pub for a couple of years. As it was a lovely evening and the views are wonderful we decided to have a drink and use the "facilities" before driving home. When we took our drinks outside we soon noticed how scruffy the harbourside area was. There was abandoned equipment and broken umbrella stands, plastic container lids and uncleared tables.

Absolutely loads of outside seating available with views over the Menai Strait to Anglesey and also you can see the boats entering and leaving Victoria Dock under the swing bridge. Good choice of soft drinks.

We were lucky to get anywhere to eat as so many places were shut on the Sunday of BH weekend, so thanks to the Anglesey Arms for fitting us in. The inside is a bit basic but no problem. Menu is “pub grub plus” I’d say, with some good fish options in keeping with their port location. The food was really good, great value, the staff were friendly and the beer was just right.

Alana is a scam artist. Sends damaged squashed and disgusting cakes and then refuses to refund, would not order again from these people

There is times of the day where there's no alternative for having a coffee in town. We went here twice during our visit of Caernarfon. I did not take a coffee at the second visit as I didn't like it. It is less clean inside and everything seems a little loveless. The sweet cakes etc. are great though. At least, the products are rather inexpensive.

We were looking for somewhere downtown harlech for a drink and food with our two boys, 9 and 14 years of age. We read the sign outside. Everyone welcome except for children. Dogs especially welcome. Adults only. A few of the local guys told me it's a swingers hotel where the dogs can get involved. Avoid. If you do want a good pint with holiday makers and locals all enjoying good food and drink and friendly conversation I would highly recommend walking an extra 200yds to the pub right next to the train station. Dogs, kids, humans all seem to be equally welcome

Very tired the pub is now! Such a shame as could be amazing and occupies such a prime position! Beer is expensive and unfortunately Marstons Pedigree and Rev James! Not great! Did not eat but saw food coming out, Tikka Masala looked dreadful! In urgent need of revamp inside and out! Come on Marstons!!!!
