The Angel Inn Freehouse in Breckland

I had eaten at this pub before and it had previously been quite acceptable, however, on my last visit it was clear the kitchen was under staffed and they were struggling to get food out in a timely manner. A 45 minute wait for a starter is not good and then another 30 mins for the main course. When it eventually arrived my food was enjoyable but the other guests with me were not so lucky, Three of the four meals were only half finished. Needless to say I won't be going back.

Excellent Roast Dinner, Delicious Deserts, Excellent Service From Staff, Lovely Place, We Will Return Definitely, 5 Stars All The Way.

Good old fashioned food served very quickly, went on Monday when we were in East Harling for three nights and then booked for the other two. Plenty of choice.

We stayed at the Angel Inn for one night when we went to Snetterton race track. The accommodation is lovely, the beds are comfy, the room and en-suite were clean and benefited from a powerful shower. We booked in for an evening meal and the service was excellent. The Manager and his team were friendly. The food was delicious. The place is a great find and we look forward to staying again.

We had a family dinner at the Angel Inn, six adults and five children. The staff and landlord where very helpful when we booked making suggestions and altering the menu to suit our needs. The food was great and all coming out at the same time. Staff were very helpful, and patient!

What a fantastic little pub! The food was out of this world. Very traditional and exceptional food. We had the fish and chips and the stake and ale pie. Both dishes were incredible but a big shout out to the pie! Honestly delicious and to die for! Great staff and lovely out door seating.

We stopped by with a family of 8. The bar and wait staff were so nice and friendly and our food was fantastic!! It took a little while to arrive but they did warn us it might as they had quite a few orders before us so it was absolutely no problem at all. The kids had a ball playing in the playground and it was a lovely day to chat and sit outside. The food was definitely worth waiting for as you could tell it was all freshly made. (I had prawns with Marie Rose sauce on a ciabatta roll). It was so tasty and everyone had great portions. Loved it! Thank you! Highly recommend and definitely worth a visit for a great pub lunch.

Ate here three times during a stay in Larling, and each time the meals were excellent, as was the beer. The staff were helpful and friendly and the portions generous. Good value for money.

We visited on a Friday lunchtime , the restaurant was busy but we were still found a nice table . All of our meals were absolutely lovely , the staff are really friendly too.

As this pub is the closest to Snetterton it was perfect for a pitstop en route to Norwich. Friendly family run pub just off of the A11. Food, service brilliant with all fresh cooked local fare forming the basis of the menu. Fine range of real ales well kept by Andrew the landlord. Spotless toilets.

We meet our friends here a couple of times a year and normally the food is really good. This time it was the complete opposite, only one of us enjoyed the meal my meal was initially wrong and when it came out very late it was actually awful, my husband barely touched his meal which is very unlike him and he said the meat in the pie tasted like it came from a can.The food used to be home cooked and lovely and now it’s frozen chips and lacks any care or attention. This will be the last time we go unfortunately. Having to wait nearly 35 minutes due to getting the food wrong was not ideal and it really was not worth the wait especially as we had children with us. My burger was grisly and inedible and so I ended up eating a few greasy chips. For the 80 pounds we spent only one of us actually ate their meal! Lots of the plates were going back to the kitchen hardly touched and the staff didn’t even remark on it as I’m guessing this is normal now.

Rubbish. I had fish and chips, the batter was thick and soft and the chips were frozen chips and overcooked. The garden peas were the best thing on the plate. I did tell the staff I was underwhelmed but got nothing off the bill. A friend was paying so I didn’t make a fuss and cause her to be upset. I won’t be returning soon.

Had a really delicious meal here in front of the open fire. Friendly and efficient staff and a cosy old fashioned country pub. Highly recommended 👌.

Sorry the food was ok but not great the staff was good we didn't stay for afters as the dining room was full of smoke and cold not a good night will think twice before going again our clothes will need washing to get the smoke out of them

Came here for lunch because it was the nearest pub to the English Distillery. What a lovely pub! Outside has clearly had a make over and had good parking. Staff were warm, friendly and attentive. Very typical traditional pub from the inside, had a lovely roaring fire going. What surprised me was how good the food is for such a smallish pub kind of in the middle of nowhere. Everything homemade even the tartar sauce! Had the most delicious pumpkin and orange sponge with icecream! To honest I couldn't fault the service or the food, well worth going out of your way for such a delicious meal. Thank you

Visited this lovely pub which was the destination venue for our classic car club Sunday drive. A party of 23 we were seated altogether in a private dining room. With so many of us we pre-ordered a couple of days in advance. The food was excellent with most people choosing the roast of either beef or pork. Staff coped well with our large party, food was served quickly and no one was kept waiting. Staff were friendly and professional. The added bonus is that there is plenty of parking. A super venue, delicious lunch and welcoming staff. Looking forward to returning.

We visit this beautiful, traditional pub a few times a year on our way to the Norfolk Broads. The owner ‘Andrew’ has owned the pub for 40 years (in Nov ‘23 ) The pub is immaculate and the proper pub food is awesome. There are no weeds growing out of the building (like most pubs!) toilets are also immaculate, everything is perfect and well worth a visit. Say hello to Andrew and his lovely Sister …..

Food was very good and would recommend it, however one member of staff was like a hurricane! She raced around tell customers how "incredibly busy" they were she spoke rather loudly at us rather than gently to us. She complained to other dinners that a party of guests had turned up with extra people and had put her out, still running around as she went. We asked for more drinks and were told again we'd have to wait as they were "incredibly busy"! Yes they were but that's not how you speak to clients, we can see that but we and other dinners don't have to be told everytime as request was made. There were other members of staff serving who were calm, but she was just too loud and it didn't boad for a comfortable evening. We'll not rush back!

What a great find ! On our way back from holiday in Norfolk and saw the sign for The Angel Inn. Pulled off and gave it a try. So glad we did the food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Will definitely call in again on our way back from Norfolk ....highly recommend !!

Lovely pub which was very busy. Lady who showed us to our table was very friendly. Food was good but could have done with slightly larger portions. The waitress who came to take our dessert order was the total opposite of the original waitress - she was very grumpy, rushed us to make our minds up when we’d only just got the dessert menu and pulled faces if we weren’t quick enough. After desserts were delivered we were left - no asking if any of us wanted coffee another drink or even the bill! Wouldn’t rush back if this is the service they are offering.

Excellent service and friendly staff & lovely food nice area in a peaceful location stopped here enroute to corton coastal village for a break can highly recommend this place.

Lovely evening for a birthday meal on a Monday! Food was delicious and so generous. Ale choice was great. Best thing though was the awesome service. So lovely and accommodating and just couldn’t have been better. They really looked after us. If this pub was closer to us we would be in there all the time. Well done to the Monday night team and huge thank you for making the evening special. It’s a real pub and feels so unpretentious, traditional and welcoming.

I wandered in after having walked 13 miles with not a pub that was selling food, cafe or shop in sight and was greeted with warmth and had the best cod and chips and rhubarb cider.

Called after a visit to St George’s distillery. Beer and cider both well kept. My wife was very impressed with the rhubarb cider. The food was well presented and hot. Staff were polite and friendly. We will call again on our next distillery stop.

Amazing from booking to meal. Roast was outstanding. Lovely home cooked fresh roast. Guy answered phone to take the booking of 15 of us for Easter Sunday was spot on.

So many places are a bit chilly now the cost of heating has gone up but the Angel was lovely and warm with a wood burner going. I had haddock and chips with mushy peas. The fish was fresh with crisp light batter and the chips were light and fluffy. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 is because there were no healthy options on the menu, not even something I could tweak to make it more healthy. All you need is one healthy option, probably won’t get ordered that often but if you use the ingredients used for other meals it shouldn’t cause waste.

We stumbled across this great little pub and restaurant whilst staying at Thorpe Forest. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was superb, something for everyone ( even two teenagers) left full and happy 😃 After sight seeing for the day, we made sure we’d finish up here for our evening meal, and it was always perfectly cooked and very satisfying. Hidden gem!

Met up with family to exchange presents. Chosen for location and other reviews. Proved to be an excellent choice for a Christmas meal (Turkey and Christmas pudding) with a log fire and friendly staff. We will certainly be returning as we couldn’t have chosen better.

Stayed for three nights whilst attending race weekend at Snetterton. Very welcoming hosts. Room lovely and quiet, beds comfortable and warm. Bar and restaurant were cosy and food excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Look forward to our return.

We stayed here on a Sunday night lucky to get a room on the offchance. A friendly and helpful welcome. Double room small but well equipped and spotless. They weren't doing breakfast because of Covid but this was discounted from the price of the room.This was the first night of our last minute getaway and they did us proud.We ate a delicious fresh crab salad with new potatoes which was fresh and healthy. Washed down with a bottle of white wine from the very reasonable wine list. Had an early evening drink here every night of our holiday in a nearby cottage. ( The owners are related and mutually very helpful) At the end of our holiday we enjoyed fabulous steaks and a nice bottle of red in the restaurant.The whole place is historical yet thoughtfully decorated. What a lovely place to stay, stop by for a drink in the garden, or have a meal from the scaled down but still appetizing menu.There is a lovely feel to the place. Good Covid arrangements locals in the bar and holiday makers at the socially distanced tables. So glad this was our local for our holidays. Interesting history as to how the pub was reclaimed for the village too.Thanks again to all staff for everything.

We had a light lunch on the way to a larger function. Nice greeting and efficient service had us eating a baked potato with cheese and beans and the mushroom pot. With proseccos and wine and coffees this was good value at £18 per head.

A wonderful impromtu visit here after a days racing with Norfolk friends. Another warm welcome and decent beer. Andrew fixed us up with two rooms at very short notice- much appreciated. Very welcoming and after reminding the bar staff to switch the heating on upstairs all was well. We had the evening meal in the cosy bar and the steaks were extremely good too. After a good nights sleep we had an enjoyable breakfast before heading back to Berkshire.

Local Pub The Angle Inn Larling went for Sunday lunch( my advice is too book ) its very popular .The choice of food was excellent service excellent drinks good you need to try it to find out your selves could not fault it . Only one thing ladies has a baby changing area but not the mens as i needed to change granddaughter other than that all good

My son was staying closeby for work so I decided to visit and have an evening meal. I had stroganoff and my son had Scampi. Great choice, great freshly cooked food and very friendly amicable staff all topped of with a lovely open fire. An old coaching inn, this is definitely one for the "I will be back list". Comfortably 5 stars all round.

Revisiting after several years and we weren’t disappointed. A very warm friendly welcome, good service and lovely food. Portions slightly on the large side but well presented, and cooked to perfection. We’ll be back very soon. Well done to the whole team

Attended the Angel Inn with 19 others for a leaving lunch, (pre-booked) I was amazed that the service was so quick bearing mind 19 people placing an order at the same (starters and main courses) the Inn was very busy at the time, food arrived swiftly and was excellent. Large menu with daily specials board. Staff excellent and friendly. brilliant lunch

If you like frozen chips and frozen onion rings this is the place for you. We ordered fish which we think was also cooked from frozen, which was awful, even the peas were over cooked. The glass of wine wasn’t good. By this time we’d had enough we left most of our food, paid the bill and left. We arrived at The Angel looking forward to a lovely meal and left wishing we hadn’t bothered. Also please do something about the flies that were a constant annoyance.

Visited this pub on Thursday as part of a large group (25 people made up of seven families) and had an absolutely lovely evening. The food was excellent and the portions were huge. Service was much quicker than anticipated and staff were friendly. The food was also very reasonably priced and the kids had a great time in the play area. Would definitely recommend.

We read the reviews online and we were convinced by the reviews that we must try this place- what we actually found was a pub that smelled like urine inside and outside - we didn’t even want to drink our drinks let alone have any food. They take your card off of you when you first order which is quite unsettling! I cant quite believe the other more positive reviews because this certainly isn’t what we found! I had to check we had the right place! Wouldn’t recommend!

Lovely clean and charming. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We went on a Saturday lunch time and had fish and chips. As previous reviews have said they were big and very very tasty. Whilst we were there they had a beer tasting fete which we enjoyed.

Tucked away but close to the A11 near Snetterton this was a great find for lunch or an evening meal.

Been coming to the Angel for years to their annual beer festival. Always well organised with friendly knowledgable staff and an amazing selection of beers. Camping for the weekend is great value with beer tokens included. This year there was a wider range of food stalls which was a great addition.

We regularly visit the angel throughout the year food and service is always excellent and reasonably priced love the fact that during the winter they always have several roaring open fires and summer months you can sit outside in the sunshine

Had our second visit here and I have to say the foods great and friendly staff. Reasonably priced but the flies !!! Come on guys the flies are very of putting. :(

We had an evening meal with friends & it was excellent. I had the lamb chops, which were lovely. The steak looked great & there was none left so it must have been good. My husband had fish & chips, although "whale & chips" would be a better title.

We followed the advice on trip advisor and we weren't disappointed in choosing this establishment.

We stopped here for some dinner recently and being a Saturday evening, they seated us promptly even though we hadn't made a booking in advance.

Stayed for one night. Comfortable room. Good food........ excellent breakfast. This is a traditional English Inn and a pleasure to stay at ..not many of these left ......a gem.......will stay again...

On a wet Wednesday it was a joy to enter this Inn. The staff were very helpful, especially to a member of our party who is wheelchair bound. A 93trd birthday lunch for my wife's uncle. The tables set for 14 across the lounge in front of a gorgeous wood fire. We had pre ordered but small changes, and three meals not pre ordered, all arrived at the table piping hot and delicious. I ate too much! It would have been rude not to! I'm told that the draught bitter was excellent but couldn't try it as I had the drive back to London ahead of me. All told a lovely meal in a country pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere. We will be back!

Stopped as was passing back to Norfolk from holiday abroad. Lovely specials board when we arrived so picked home made asparagus soup and cottage pie and vegetables to follow. This was my second visit to the Angel Inn a year after visiting the first time. I was staying down the road in the little village of East Harling for the Easter holidays.

Having not visited before we went on recommendation. The food, service etc was acceptable but not spectacular. Lamb chops with new potatoes, onion rings and salad . I didn't even attempt the wilted salad! The iceberg lettuce might have revived had it been washed! The specials desert board was uninspiring, so we didn't bother. Overall, it was OK (but nothing special) and I wouldn't go again.

Large menu with a good range of gluten free options. Food cooked to order, great meal, good value, and good size portions. Will definitely return.

Great night at our shoot meal it was a set menu to cater for all the shoot guest but did not rate the food that much the veg was rock hard and my gray to my pie was cold but they did have to cater for alot of people that night

There were 15 of us, 8 adults /7 children. We were seated in the little breakfast room ... a little squashed but ideal in that we could shut the door to contain the little ones! A wide menu choice ... full meals or smaller, lighter bites. Also a reasonable children's menu. We should probably pre-ordered as there were so many of us, so it was 2.30pm before we got our food (arrived at 1.30 but didn't complete order until 1.50).
