The Angel Inn in Camden

We have been eagerly anticipating the opening of the Angel since we heard the owner of the Red Lion and Sun was taking it over. Not just because there is a shortage of good restaurants in Highgate but because the Red Lion and Sun is the best by far. We’ve been to the Angel three times already and the service has been very warm and extremely accommodating. We were served by Gary tonight who was very charming and recommended a lovely Malbec to pair with my Wagyu cheese burger. The food is honest pub grub and the cost is reasonable. The wine menu is fantastic and the vibe is quite lively without being too loud. Currently there is no way to book a table but we haven’t had an issue yet. Give the Angel a try, it’s slowly becoming our new regular and we love it.

Just had a wonderful brunch here. Can’t recommend it enough.

Great and friendly staff (saskia) on the Sunday morning I visited would recommend any one who needs to wind down to pass on threw for a coffee :)

This was our first visit to The Angel under new ownership. It’s the same owners (Heath & family) as The Red Lion & Sun also in Highgate. We are huge fans of Red Lion and are super happy with Angel as well. We had Sunday brunch which was perfectly cooked, served promptly, and at fair prices. Service was faultless. Thanks again Heath and team for a wonderful experience. Now how are we going to choose between the Angel and Red Lion?

The new management is wonderful, I’ve gone here twice with my toddler for a late breakfast/early lunch. The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Finally a place on the high street that feels personal and bespoke :)

Tried giving the angel a second chance, after my visit but it has gotten worse. Food came out cold and tea had no tea bag in my pot. Didn't want to bother as it was not busy at all to make such errors and I just left after paying. Will not return unfortunately, quality and service has dropped significantly.

Mi pareja y yo tuvimos la suerte de encontrar este encantador pub en Highgate y quiero decir que la cena asada fue el almuerzo dominical más sabroso que he tenido en mucho tiempo, mi pareja y su hija habían cocinado carne de res a la perfección para cada uno de ellos , tuve el mejor asado de nueces de la historia , solo que lo malo era que quería una porción más grande, ya que no quería que terminara . . incluso se fueron de su camino para comprar un poco de salsa de menta local . . las verduras, patatas y la salsa estaba tan deliciosamente sabrosa . . el Yorkshire era enorme y delicioso . . Volveré muy pronto. . gracias

Went to check out The Angel under new management. The renovation is alright, fairly bland but clean and simple. The staff were all very nice and attentive. The food however is pretty overpriced. I paid £14 for the 'chilli poached eggs'. 2 poached eggs on a single slice of sourdough with some chilli oil on top. One of the eggs was also over cooked. Tasted good but nothing special. I understand it's Highgate so it'll never be the cheapest spot but if the food itself is average and the atmosphere is fairly generic, I fail to see why their prices are so high. Probably won't be back for the brunch offering again.

Under new management from the same people as the Red Lion. Lovely and spacious, friendly staff and very welcoming to our little one. Had beautiful roast beef and pork and a delicious stick toffee pudding. Other food also looked great. Definitely recommend!

Great food; good beer selection; friendly service; nice decor; relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. One of the best pubs in Highgate and very reasonably priced.

I came here after a visit to Highgate Cemetery. The pub is lovely and the Sunday Roast was very good!

El peor almuerzo de pub que hemos tenido. Pedimos la panza de cerdo el domingo asado y el crujido que vino con él era literalmente no comestible! Al decirle al gerente su respuesta fue que no éramos las primeras personas en decir eso. Las papas asadas estaban empapadas y la col y las chirivías insípidas y solo calientes. El vientre de cerdo era muy salado, pero el pudín Yorkshire estaba bien. Pedimos mostaza y obtuvimos rábano picante y el personal no estaba en lo más mínimo interesado. Solía ser un muy buen lugar para el asado del domingo, ya no!

Encontramos este lugar encantador por casualidad en Google Maps, ya que estábamos visitando el cementerio y buscando el almuerzo de antemano. Deliciosa comida, sin duda el mejor schnitzel de pollo que he probado en Londres! Servido por el muy entretenido 'Mclovin' - mientras caminábamos en mi amigo dijo "Esto se ve bien" y él dijo con una gran sonrisa "¡ES agradable! " Él se aseguró de que mis alergias fueran atendidas y fue divertido y acogedor. Cuidado con el papel pintado del loro loco en los baños. Sin duda volveré si estoy en la zona de nuevo.

I visited this pub for a Sunday roast at noon and it was fantastic! We had a mixed meat platter to share and the quality of the meat was impeccable. The plate was well-varied, and everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was great and the service was friendly. It’s also a dog-friendly spot where you can help yourself to treats, water, and blankets for your furry friends. Prices are very reasonable for Highgate. Highly recommend!

Worst fish and chips I've ever had eating out. Straight out of a freezer packet and kids portion in size. Staff friendly.

Had lunch today here with my (elderly!) parents. Our server Gary was absolutely brilliant and took the time to chat and joke with us, as well as giving us excellent service. I had a mango and avocado salad which was excellent. The portions were so generous that my parents couldn't finish theirs! A very nice vibe, dog friendly and fully accessible. Very clean toilets which is always brilliant! Thank you so much Gary we will come back!

We hired out the Angel Inn for our wedding on a Saturday afternoon/evening. And honestly, couldn't have found a more perfect venue! It fits around 45 for seated dinner, the food is absolutely delicious, the staff were wonderful. We could decorate and arrange the place how we wanted. The communication was so smooth - it made the planning so easy and we could trust that they had it covered. It has the charm of a pub, the quality of a restaurant, and the fact you can hire it out exclusively giving you a bar area and seated area separately...honestly, nothing like it in London. Whether you have a wedding, party, celebration of any sorts, 100% recommend speaking with the team here.

I went to The Angel recently for lunch, even though I live in Highgate I hadn't been before so I didn't know what to expect. I had a salad with grilled chicken which was delicious and my sister had the burger and fries. Both meals were generous and flavoursome. I will definitely return and take my little dog as they are dog friendly which is a real bonus!

Only ordered a burger takeout as I was really hungry whilst walking my dog in Waterlow Park. Had a quick search on Google map and found out this place is dog friendly and is really close to the park so came and ordered a takeout to eat int he park. Tastes really good, even the fries tastes something special. Would love to come and sit down and try out different menus with my dog.

Went for lunch Mon 29th April with a family party of 5 and it was probably the best seafood linguine I've ever eaten. Good alternative menu options to suit various wallets and appetites round the table. Thanks to the manager also who was very polite, friendly and helpful. Definitely be back. Nice decor too.

A very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. Prices very reasonable but portions slightly smaller than having been use to with.the linguineķ. As a group we were looked after very well. Overall excellent.

Great service and good priced beautiful presented and delicious food. Really enjoyed the amalfi spritz non alcoholic cocktail. We asked to moved tables as spot light was so intense and directly in the face of one of my guests, our request was quickly accommodated

The food was great. The staff were great. The booth was so comfortable. It has been a while since we last visited but we are now planning our next visit really soon!

Not been before. It was a welcome pitstop after exploring. Being in at around 1-2pm, very quiet. Staff quite friendly. When I'm next in Highgate, I'll return.

Had a lovely meal here today (beef shin and pale ale pie with clotted cream mash). Very friendly, helpful staff. It was lunchtime so pretty quiet but I will definitely go again.

Have visited The Angel a few times having travelled up from The Midland to visit my daughter. Great pub great food and great staff, dog friendly too ! Will be visiting again when next in London.

Nice decor and atmosphere. Asian lady that initially came to serve us was very helpful and friendly but had to grab the attention of staff that took over from her. Had to wait a long time for Sunday roast and even had to ask if our food could be brought to the table because it was obviously ready at the hatch. My half a chicken was actually two scrawny legs with hardly any meat on one. The stuffing was tiny and very dry. Pig in blanket (singular) was overcooked. Wine prices are seriously and ridiculously excessive! We know pubs have to get over lockdown but such increases since are taking the piss out of customers.

Hi, after a recent bad experience at one of the groups pubs in town we decided to go local to the Angel Inn in Highgate. It was as ever great fun, lovely atmosphere and the food was excellent. We were well looked after and the manager was delightful.

We have been regular visitors to The Angel since Rachel, the manager took her position there. Having known the pub before and since Rachel’s residence, I can say without hesitation that it’s an entirely different space. Rachel has created a warm, friendly yet professional environment. The food is always excellent, there is a decent choice of wines and the service is always exceptional. We are lucky enough to have a variety of pubs to choose from, all within walking distance but nowadays The Angel tops them all.

Visited today , table of four . As a chef myself ( 37 years) I found this to be a very relaxing and warm environment. Attentive front of house . And without having too much a rant the quality of the food was excellent. I really despair over the quality of London’s pubs in 2023 , too many head office menu’s with their profit margins and unhappy chefs often working under staffed . Not the case here , I can’t remember the last time I’ve had parmentier potatoes in a pub ? The hake was perfectly cooked . Quite simply the best pub food I’ve had this year and not overpriced. Wine menu excellent. Thank you everyone.

It was good but despite having pre-ordered it took along time for food to come. The pre-order didn't allow us to book children's/smaller size meals so we ended up paying full price for all children We had to ask for crackers even though all other tables had got them and then they only came for children Cocktails were really good though and food was good

Really nice food and excellent service

The service was impeccable, especially given we were the second large party of the day. Food was great and they even managed to accommodate two extra guests with no notice. The waiting staff were attentive and even made a seating plan which meant they located people with the right food with ease. When I settled up the bill we had even managed to get the cash right and I had a lovely chat with some of the bar staff. No notes, genuinely lovely evening!

I got there because it's super old building and couldn't expect the price so affordable. Really nice place to spend your time with friends.

One of the best Sunday Roasts I’ve ever had in a Pub. Good valve, generous portions and great service! I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Friday lunchtime was quiet. Two adults enjoyed the Hake main course and an infant loved the grilled haddock. Service was friendly and efficient. Will return.

Lovely environment, good food and friendly service, albeit slow. The dessert took 30 minutes to arrive. However, this pub is FULL of dogs. Restaurants do not allow dogs, so why would a pub, which functions as a restaurant, allow dogs in areas where food is served AND there is table service? Isn't this pretty much a restaurant? The dogs were shaking, salivating and launching bugs up in the air. It was awful. I found this disgusting. And the toilets as well. Just to complete the poor hygiene picture. Sadly, I wouldn't be back because of it. Drinks only perhaps. I also didn't appreciate the reply that this pub left here previously, as well the fact that they are trying to remove this review. For this reason I have revised the rating further down.

Would have been 5 on food but 🍨 was disappointing

Good environment and excellent staff let down by very poor hot food. The starter was a while coming but the olives and sourdough bread were good. A long delay for the roasts to arrive. The beef was dry and very overdone, all the vegetables were tough and soggy as if they had been reheated - not good for roast potatoes! Portions were a good size. In contrast all four crumble desserts were undercooked. Embarrassing when one’s guests commented on how poorly the food was cooked.

Fantastic Sunday roast - very long wait on the meat but the staff more than made up for it by giving us the lunch for free! Will definitely come back.

It was wonderful to drop in after a long walk. The selection of beers is excellent - I tried two different ones (try = pint), and my three companions another three. But what makes me writing this is the excellent, friendly yet professional service by the bar staff. It was just uplifting

Popped in for a rest, the seats are very comfortable. I thought at £5.80 the small bottle of alcohol free beer I asked for was overpriced.

A favourite in Highgate. Excellent food, lovely ambiance, and the coldest cider on the high street.

We really enjoyed our visit, it is a nice venue. The service was excellent, and a very varied choice of food.

We hosted a surprise birthday party at the Angel Inn and we couldn't have asked for a better venue! Rachel & Nikos were very accommodating and helped plan a wonderful event. They responded quickly to any questions & were a big part of ensuring things ran smoothly on the day. The bar snacks were delicious and loved by all the guests. The staff were very attentive & looked after us all night. Thank you so much to everyone at the Angel Inn! I would definitely recommend this venue.

This restaurant was spot on with all key requirements for a wonderful evening. Good setting and ambiance. Plenty of room & space around tables Fantastic choices with regards to menu. Doors was delivered fast and was delicious across the party visiting for a meal. Vast choices of drinks for all to have and finally a word needs to be said for the service which was that evening deleivered by Gary. Having an ability to deliver a meal for 10 guests was a skill and he did with amazing communication skills, a friendly manner and was professional & talented in making it all looks seamless. Thank you to him and the team for a wonderful evening cheering us all up between rainstorms in Highgate. Thoroughly recommended

Lovely pub on Highgate "village".

Honestly, I don't know what was worse, the lack of a functioning website or the blase staff. I'm a pregnant woman, and my partner and I wanted to enjoy a nice Saturday brunch. According to online reviews, the Angel inn is "one of the best pubs in North London" and, as per the website, appeared to serve brunch. We were super excited to go! Upon arrival, we were barely greeted by a bored looking bartender before being unceremoniously plonked on a table by the bathrooms. We were given normal all day menus, and when we asked for brunch, we were told "yeah we used to do it we don't now". My partner and I OBVIOUSLY decided to go elsewhere. Before leaving, I showed the online brunch menu to what appeared to be the supervisor, and his exact response was "yeah coz we have a rubbish website." Needless to say my partner and I were less than impressed, and I will nottttt be going back to give them a second chance. If you want a great brunch head to Côte brasserie.
