Always clean and tidy, lovely friendly and helpful staff.

Was fairly quiet for a Friday night. There was a couple kicking off, but the pub had a nice selection of drinks and Sky sports main event was on. The toilets were clean enough and there is a covered seating area out the front. Strange layout with a little snug area at the front on ground level and a further bar near the toilets up a few stairs.

Nice local pub, friendly and helpful bar staff. Very nice food.

Not sure about these past reviews as my most recent experience was certainly a bad one. I've visited this pub on numerous occasions over the last 7 years and unfortunately this has now gone downhill since the previous owner has retired, the pub is in desperate need of a renovation or at least some fresh paint on the walls and ceilings, there are tatty pictures and old trophies sitting on shelves, the TV was tiny and the tables sticky, come on bring it up to date. It has lost a lot of the old clientele and they seem to have been replaced by teenagers who on my last visit appeared to be engaging in what I can only say as questionable behaviour (entering and exiting the pub continuously to speak to random people who just happened to be walking by, you can come to your own conclusions) I agree previously this pub had a good community atmosphere and the sunday roasts were great but the new owners need to seriously think about sprucing this place up and think long and hard about who they want drinking in there, unfortunately that won't be me as I'll be spending my hard earnt wages elsewhere.

A great typical boozer but also family friendly and good food, staff are polite too so all good👍

Have to admit, looking at it as we drove past we weren't expecting great things but I'll happily say we wrong. The Sunday lunch was great, tasty and plenty of food at a reasonable price. The staff were lovely and helpful. All in all a great Sunday lunch

The Angel gardens was more than accommodating with hosting a wake for our family. It was a great send off and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The buffet food was very good and there was lots of space for those who attended. Many thanks, regards Steve.

The pub has been ran by the same landlord since I was in middle school, so late 80s. The pub does great Sunday roasts and seems to be for over 18s only, which is a good idea but not everyone will think so.

Went for a roast and have to say was the best I've had in a long time

Proper English food, lots of steamed puddings and custard. Decor is a bit ordinary, but that doesn't matter when your plate is piled high for £12.50. Would highly recommend

A good local pub that offers a range of real ales and a surprisingly varied food menu. The Sunday roasts which come in three sizes are to be recommended.

Excellent pub with a good selection of ales albeit on the weaker side.. Could do with one or two higher ABV beers to keep my interest going.. Food excellent if a little pricey for pub food.. But we'll worth the visit especially to the under cover heated area at the back.. Guvnor and staff all friendly

The best Sunday roast ever. Excellent value, a very friendly and welcoming pub. Also large varied menu during the week which is excellent. Would not go anywhere else for a Sunday roast.

Everything apart from the WiFi/mobile signal works well here.. Money well spent on the garden area sadly due to pandemic, but will see this place used more I’m sure. Good to see one of the city’s oldest pubs still in use. Did I mention the food? Yup, it’s all good and very freshly prepared. Wide range of drinks available too all served up in a friendly local atmosphere.

Came last night to have a drink for my late father in law. Walked through the door to be shouted at to sign in. Found the staff unfriendly and unwelcoming to a grieving family of one of there regulars. Very disappointed .

Always get a friendly welcome in this pub. Great atmosphere and today we went specifically to try the Sunday roast. I had the extra large version and was impressed with what I received, lots of meat and all the veg etc that you would expect. My girlfriend is veggie, and they had veggie sausages and gravy which was perfect.

Massive choice of beers, proper pub

Popular local pub. Good range of beers, ciders, larger and spirits etc. Although pub full and busy, didn't have long to wait for my food. Chicken and rice in white wine sauce, withrice. Generous portion, well cooked. Pool table available. All in all well run establishment.

Very rude and disrespectful member of staff, we had spent a large amount of money before hand tonight. he came over and told my 25 year old partner that ""She should not be in here". She is 25!!! Did not ask for ID just assumed. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Will NEVER return. What a shame.

Great local pub. Beyond friendly staff. Cheap pints. The food is tremendous. Roast dinners. 3 sizes and regular will fill the largest stomachs up. £8.50 for all the sides and generous helping of meat. All tastes catered for including vegetarian. Pool table. Fruit machine. WiFi available. Contactless. Available minimum £10 spend but can get cash back so works out really well. Good music and has the football or sports on TV. Not too many seats. Cosy

Lovely little pub with live music on the weekends! It does get a bit rammed in there but it has a nice friendly atmosphere and a 20p pool table! I have been here quite a few times, I am not a local but evan from the first visit, I have felt welcomed by the regulars. They also sell pub grub. Would recommend!

The food is really good and at a reasonable price plus the beer is good also and they are very friendly good experience would recommend to anyone.

Went there for Sunday lunch - amazing value for money, with lots of different veg. I would recommend that you have no more than the medium sized meal. Good selection of real ales as well.

Intended to go to the pub today for lunch with 4 adults and 3 children, walked in and asked if we could push two tables together so we could sit together and eat, the man behind the bar had serious attitude and said to us we could sit in the garden, which I didn't want to do as I didn't want my 9 month old sitting in the boiling sun! After he had opened the garden door so the other children could play in the garden he then decided to moan to the locals sitting up at the bar about us which he didn't do very descreetly as we all saw him! We decided to leave at this point as I wasn't sitting in a pub with a grumpy old bar man! Obviously he wasn't very happy that a group of 7 were going to come and order lunch! Ended up taking our custom to the Cactus Cafe on Magdalen Street which was lovely! Considering I went to the Angel Gardens for Sunday lunch and it was lovely now my mind has definitely changed after the experience today I won't be going back!

Good Sunday roast, very accommodating for my needs. Best to book on a Sunday, thanks again we will be back
