Al Forno Restaurant & Inn in Norwich

My wife and I have just got back from a lovely stay at Al Forno. We were made welcome, the room was comfortable and clean, and the restaurant served delicious tasty food. We both struggled to find a single fault. Thanks everyone at Al Forno for a lovely stay.

I turned up at 6pm for our 7:30pm meal. The carpark was empty but I noticed a few carparking fine signs so asked if we could leave the car and quickly pop to St Stephens St before our meal. After a long wait the member of staff returned and I was told I'd have to move my car and come back at 7:30pm. I would understand if the car park was full! Didn't like the way I was spoken to either so I moved the car and didn't return. Joke! Maybe you should remove your signs that state 'car park free for customers!!!'

The food unfortunately not good . The waiter and the restaurant very nice.

Lovely restraunt. We were the only ones in there which was a bit worrying lol. I think the food was a bit overpriced for what it was. I was expecting some real Italian cuisine but got something mediocre. We enjoyed the food but it wasn't really worth 20 and 30 pounds a dish. The waiter was very polite and attentive and the restraunt has a lovely ambience.

Wonderful local inn with comfortable beds at affordable prices. Breakfast is included with most room packages, and the service provided is very professional. Location is close to everything central and about a 5 minute walk to the bus station.

Perfect spot 5 min walk into central area with bars restaurents..Friendly service, nice spacious quiet rooms and the breakfast was also good, plus on site car park.

Myself and my husband came here for a meal and found a gem. The food was excellent and so was the service. We didn’t stay at the hotel we just visited the Restaurant. We will definitely be back there again soon.

If I could give you negative stars I would. A woman fell off her bike and was bloody and hurt and you would not allow her to use your restroom to clean up and buy a bottle of water. Because you 'have customers in'?! Absolute disgrace you should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you go out of business. Disgusting behaviour

A hidden Gem, food and service outstanding plus free parking on site. You won't regret visiting this resturant..

The food was ok - nothing special and not overly flavourful. Wouldn’t fault the waiter though he was very polite

Went in for a meal not staying at the hotel, food was very disappointing and would have been made a more pleasurable evening had the waiter made some suggestions with the menu! Bland and microwaved which is probably why we were the only diners in there!

We made an unplanned Visit there as our original plans changed. What an absolute gem of a restaurant. We all had 3 different courses and every single one of our meals we absolutely first class. The steaks were uo there with the best we had ever had. The restaurant was beautifully done and the staff were fantastic. Can't recommend it more. Well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. Top marks.

Amazing restaurant, amazing service, food was delicious. We had a weekend away to Norwich with our newborn (8weeks old) restaurant was more than accommodating and it was a lovely calm atmosphere, he slept all the way through while we enjoyed a lovely bottle of rose and great food! 10/10

Have stayed here few times and always book here when staying at Norwich. Staff always friendly and very helpful. Comfortable rooms and good location. Good food. I can leave my car here for £5.00 daily so no need to travel into the city centre and then struggle to find parking at a reasonable cost. Always enjoy staying here

Ive stayed here a few times now. Travel here work as the location is ideally placed for the city centre. Rooms are very comfortable and have everything you need. The staff are very friendly, helpful and will always sort out any questions or queries. The resturant offers good italian cuisine competitively priced in comfortable surroundings.

Stayed for one night in single room Found the staff to be very friendly,polite and helpful The room was clean, modern and comfortable Bathroom was the same Vegetarian breakfast was good and eating area again was very well presented I will definitely stay again on my next trip up to Norwich

Just had the most amazing meal at the Grill House! Food was fresh, well presented and full of flavour. Whitebait was delicious and steak was to die for. Service ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ Will definitely return when next visiting Norwich. Many thanks for a lovely evening. Sam and Richard

Have had stay in this inn, and was pretty disappointed , because the room had no windows.But the owner/receptionist was very welcoming.

Stayed here for one night and I just want to say how amazing this place is ! Great atmosphere, friendly and staff are polite , hotel room is clean and nice , the bed is so comfortable! All around great service , able to check in when needed and great food ! If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Norwich this is a great place and it within walking distance to the city centre ! We ended up here by chance,for an overnight stay, the room was clean and pleasant the bed was comfy and the staff were really helpful, the breakfast was awesome.well done to the staff cheers

Breakfast on a May Sunday is at dawn, and only for about a ten minute window, and we weren't offered fruit juice - I had to ask, having seen the person at the next table drinking some.

Absalute 💎. We arrived rediculously early and and our room was already available so we were allowed to check in at half 9. The staff were so kind and helpful. Our room was spotless. Now we had no windows, I'm sure to some this would be a gripe but to me and my wife this was perfect. Totally pitch black. It was a Saturday night and I could hear anything from the other rooms. The beds are comfortable and well like everything else..... Perfect 👌 stay.

We just had a 3 night stay at The Grill House and loved it! It’s in an excellent location for the city centre, as it’s just a short stroll away. The rooms are immaculate and so beautifully decorated. The restaurant has delicious home cooked food with a wonderful breakfast to set you up for the day! Ben, the manager couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating. Such a friendly team, which made our stay very relaxed. Thank you so much! We will definitely stay again!!

Absolutely beautiful and authentic Italian food, and the portions are very good. Ben is a fantastic and friendly host, the restaurant is always clean and very easy to relax in. It's become our regular haunt, love the place.

Excellent food and service, would thoroughly recommend

I struggle to give a review because there is potential here and they are tantalising close and big potential to make this a success story. The restaurant staff saved the day so please read to the end. Income is supported by a £5 per day parking offer on a car park absolutely packed on a building ground, gravel pit which is locked at night and guests are given a key. This is an unmanned BnB with no emergency contact details so it's important to always ensure that you keep your keys with you even if you just go out to fetch something from the car because the doors will lock behind you. I stayed one night in a clean room with a tiny bed but the layout had not been thought through and everything is squeezed in. A very very old TV with a tinny sound for entertainment and WiFi with very little connectivity. Restaurant staff is delightful and polite with flawless presentation but untrained. I asked for whiskey with ice, ice forgotten. I asked for steak medium and the 3 well done thin slices appeared on a plate all alone so I had to order extra veg which arrived delicious but a little late, for breakfast I asked for boiled eggs which arrived rolling around in a cereal bowl as hard on the inside as on the outside. Would I stay again? Yes, I think I actually would. It's the staff. They are just lovely and they save the place so if the owners had any sense at all they need to recognise that their staff is fantastic but need support and training. Management / Owners need to step up. Speak with your staff and find out what they need to do their job. Sort the car park out.. Are you a hotel or car park? Tarmac it and cordon off parking for guests. Figure out the out of hours inaccessibility issue. Upgrade the electronics and WiFi. It's 2022. Put up shelves in the shower and by the basin. Guests don't want to pick soap and shampoo up from the floor. Fit heating in your bathrooms. It's otherwise a great location, rooms are nice and quiet for being to close to the centre in walking distance to everything Norwich has to offer and I would recommend this BnB as up and coming.

One of the best restaurants in the area, super cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, freshly prepared food, I ordered a pizza. Perfect value for money, good beer!!

Lovely and yummy spaghetti frutti di mare 🍝 and the staff is very friendly and lovely. Happy tummy, happy customer. Definitely recommend to have dinner here.

We didn't have a booking but had been let down by another local restaurant so decided to try the Grill House rather than miss out. Really glad we did, food was good, staff very friendly, would definitely be happy to go back again.

Stayed for 1 night and was very impressed with the standard of the place! The staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was exceptionally clean and the bed was probably one of the comfortable beds I've slept in! Staff showed me around the hotel and explained everything clearly. Service at breakfast was fantastic and food was great quality. Highly recommended!

What a lovely place to stay.. Right in Norwich City centre. Clean and quite a beautiful room, with tea and coffee making facilities. Just filled our boots with a yummy cooked breakfast. Would recommend staying here and we will be back again. Thank you to the staff who made us feel very welcome. Kind regards Chris.

A very friendly restaurant with an excellent chef and waiter. My fillet steak was perfectly cooked on a bed of fried sliced potatoes in a cheese sauce. I came away very satisfied!

Very friendly, spotlessly clean, bed a bit hard (very personal thing though) breakfast not huge but good quality ingredients. Only negative was the price of the restaurant food, cannot comment on the food as too expensive to try.

So iv put up a picture of the "lasagne" I was served its the one that looks like a korma/pinky red soup . Honestly had better from Tesco's that u ping in a microwave . The worst thing is these guys are Italian .. let me know if you need to teach you how to do one as this was by far the worst homemade one iv had .

Excellent experience ordering takeaway during the week. We know how great the food and service is from our trips to the new restaurant, but were very impressed with the chicken kebabs - a lovely chicken breast, salad and chips.

I called today for the collection. Friendly staff, real Italian pizza, parking, COVID safe, easy collection and payment, social distancing, huge car park. On my favorite list now

Lovely big rooms, shower lovely and plenty of pressure , owner very nice and welcoming. Clean and tidy . Close to the town centre . Left my car in car park and walked everywhere as everything so close by. Love it so much we stayed a extra day

Friday night 9pm only 2 people in the whole building. Ordered a fillet steak MR and a pizza. We waited 45 minutes. What turned up was 3 long strips of fatty gristle. Had 1 and a half of the strips and refused to eat the rest. I am pretty sure it was a rump steak and a bad one. Explained to the waiter it wasn't very good and was cooked wrong. He informed me he only serves great local food and it was perfect. I offered him to try the other strip and he said no it is perfect. He informed me that his 20 years of experience means I was incorrect. I have never once been to a restaurant that has spoken to me like this. Truly unbelievable. The pizza was fine. I understand why the place was empty and doesn't have a trip advisor.
