The Angel in Manchester

I had an exceptional experience there. Me and my friends have been Atleast 25 times. It’s almost a religious experience each time we visit manny. However the one time we did visit the new staff treated us like dirt. He was serving his friends but refused to serve us. I will never forget that experience. It reflects nothing on the pub and the experience but it does say a lot about my opinion as a bar man myself, as if felt very hypocritical.

We popped in for a drink on our night out, it was cheap friendly and we had a good time.

I’m afraid this pub has set the bar too high for my first pub experience in Manchester. Great atmosphere, friendly people and bartenders, just good energy all around. If you value authenticity in a pub, pay this one a visit. You won’t regret it.

Proper pub. No pretentions. Great range of beers. Spacious beer garden. Not trendy. Not trying to be something it isn't. Just a good, old pub for people who like to enjoy a good pint and chat with people they don't know.

Good choice of cask ales. Friendly atmosphere with a decent beer garden. Also a piano which one of our group played a couple of tunes on.

Reasonable prices and plenty of choice of beers.

Popped in for a drink as we were staying at a hotel up the road! Weirdly it's a very old pub stuck alone in the middle of Manchsters newer infrastructure with high rise buildings and main roads surrounding it! However, very nice inside, excellent choice of drinks, friendly staff and a little area to sit outside when the weather's nice! Enjoyed visiting!

Always my favourite , I go there everytime I'm having a night out. Good prices and the staff are fantastic, cozy interior and great vibes. I love the atmosphere and a great amount on draft.

Great choice of cask in a comfortable, dingy, classic boozer interior. Excellent value if you're used to NQ pricing, and top notch cellar keeping. Some of the hand pumps could do with a service.

I've walked past this place many times and never felt compelled to go in . And till now .and the first thing you notice is how old this pub really is, why all around it is changing with sky high apartment , new offices , this pub as stood the test of time . It's in need of a full refurbishment. when you walk in, it's like you have gone back in time it really does have its own style . The toilets are dark walls covered in stickers & graffiti , and the fan is thick with dust , but all this said, you are greeted by friendly bar staff. And the people that go in are happy to chat to anyone who goes in . And as the day went on, it was getting busier by the minute, but good weather and a nice outdoor space helped . You will get a warm welcome in here . Will I go in again, I think so .it's doing its own thing and not trying to keep up with anyone else, so good on them . The drinks are good .and the lad & the new trainee bar member was very welcoming

The cask ale scene here seems to be on the up. Plenty of choice if you don’t fancy a continental lager.

April - amazing young lady ! Was dancing and singing whilst pouring out pints made us feel welcome 🤗 The garden is beautiful ❤️ and the bartenders are even better

Nice Pub, didn't try the food. Really good Beers 😎 lots of tables seats and friendly customers. Bar Staff are efficient and friendly, although the Bar Manager (or Head Barman??) needs a holiday, he does look highly strung 🤣 The Toilets have some 'interesting reading' on the walls 👍🤣

Great selection of craft beers and ciders. They brew a really good cider that tastes like vimto. The staff is really nice. There is a fireplace that is sometimes lit in winter. Great atmosphere.

Was in here last Friday afternoon, some cracking soul tunes to be heard.

This was a superb pub and i really enjoyed going there, but as you can see it was rather quite, which was normal for a Sunday evening after a very hectic Friday and Saturday. The beer selection was very good and well kept and i would defiantly go again.

Gent's toilets are awful, cold water only and hand drier not working.

Called in at 11.15pm after a gig as this place states it's open till midnight. There were several people sat drinking but the Irish barman said they were closed. Pointed out the advertised hours but nothing doing. Either change your times or dock his wage for not putting a full shift in. Back to the Marble Arch in future.

This place has so much potential, but its dirty and unkempt, however beer was good, probably perfect example of the owner never being here and being run by kids. Cold as well. I was here awaiting friends ,no one else stayed for a 2nd drink !! Says it all

Popped in here for a couple of pints when visiting Manchester recently. Wasn’t overly busy and it was nice to be able to warm up by the fire on a cold day. Drinks were reasonably priced and staff very friendly

Lots of improvements made recently - decorated, renovated, and the drinks selection is one of the best around! I can't wait for food to be back!

Cosy pub with reasonable drinks prices

This saddens me to write coz back in the day The Angel was a legendary pub, I remember nights in there with it 5 deep at the bar and so many cask to choose from you just had to stay all night so you could try them all, however..!! What has happened..went in a fortnight ago with mates and I bigged the place up so much only to find of the hundred casks on the bar only 3 were on and none of them were any good and the atmosphere was dead on a Saturday night. The Marble and Turks are still cracking pubs and the Angel is in a prime location to be as good, but something isn't right. Sort it out The Angel, I want my old Angel back..!!

What a great visit i had good old traditional pub so nice to see some still around. Great selection of beers. And served by a lovely friendly young lady Ella happy to chat made us feel very welcome, and seemed like she actually wanted to be there which is refreshing for bar staff nowadays. Definatly worth a visit we will be back.

This was my first tine here and it was great! I had a group of friends over from the states (they absolutely loved it!). The barman let us play music on the piano. Great selection of larger and really cheap too for the area. would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a night out with a great atmosphere.

We have often included The Angel in our real ale days out in Manchester but hadn't been for several years until the weekend just gone. Oh what a disappointment!! I have never known a pub to have gone so downhill before. Dark, dirty and dismal springs to mind, and that was just the decor! 12 handpulls on the bar but only 4 in action and a pretty poor choice. Filthy glasses, short measures (yes I know I should have asked for a top up but we'd already decided to drink up and get out by then). Lager served in a straight beer glass. The guy behind the bar looked like it was an inconvenience for him to have been there. Needs a massive amount of work to get it back to it's former glory!!

We made the right decision of chosen this place for our brunch! We wanted to order so many menu but there’s only 2 of us. Took a point out because I was expecting more from Aperol spritz. Maybe a nicer decoration like slice of fresh orange in it. Overall was great 👍🏼

This place has gone down hill since last time I was here. Poor and limited selection of beers available and the beer garden is appalling, the outside furniture is falling to bits and is actually dangerous! Wont be going back in a hurry!

Had to shout for someone to serve. He looked tired from the night before. Had a pint of the only one he'd poured before.

We had an impromptu disco upstairs and they didn't mind!😃

Really gone downhill these days no crisps! beer not cold! Half the beers are off, used to be a sound boozer.

Asked for a menu. Got told they'd not served food for years..Guy behind the bar told jokes about child abuse.. and abused me, when I complained..

Had to try this place. Don't be put off by it's facade..get yourselves sat down and enjoy a drink.

Cool little proper pub, it might look a bit rough from the outside. But the beer selection is top notch, great selection of cask and keg, cosy little pub.

Very disappointed. This pub has lost it's former glory. Hardly anyone in on a Saturday lunchtime. Maybe because, it's freezing cold, no food, not even crisps. The food here was legendary. No fire, even though there is an open fire. Apparently they have no coal or wood. I feel sorry for the barman, he must be so disillusioned

Brilliant pub great staff and they make you welcome great beer .

Used to be a great place but now its just a dive. Needs shutting down and doing up again. Ale not much better either.

First visit for 31 years, the place still has a cool vibe. Reasonably priced, smashing staff, only thing missing was the juke box which was class. Nice tunes playing anyway.

the headline refers to the fact that the idiot Manchester councillors did their best to try to demolish this whole area to "develop it" and also drive a road through part of it & "compromised" (ha ha) by allowing this locals pub to remain open though this new road is outside. Anyhow, its a great local boozer so do go & support it !

Great pub. Had a GF beer on guest ales when I was there. Barman a gem. Highly recommended.

I go here quite often at lunch. Nice boozer although in need of a make over. Not sure how busy it gets in the evenings but it's one of those community haunts similar to the Britons Protection and Marble Arch. Part of the traditional Manchester pub scene. Has plenty of tasty rotating cask ale on with a sizable keg selection too (Beavertown gamma ray and neck oil etc etc). Worth a visit if you are nearby.

Great beer. Not so kid friendly. Furniture tired but it's part of the charm.
