Sunday lunch is just fantastic value and a delicious traditional lunch. Beef offered rare, medium or well done, vegetables are served separately and must mention the cauliflower cheese. Deserts are all homemade and you are assured of a warm welcome by the owners. We go regularly from Nottingham and meet friends from Leicester

Our first visit to The Anchor…meeting friends for a pre-Christmas meet up. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. We had pre-ordered our meals which when arrived. …we couldn’t believe our eyes. It was absolutely amazing and so tasty. Plenty of choice and the brussels arriving on the stalk was certainly a talking point. Sweets were divine and nice to see different choices. One of our friends commented that it was the best meal she had all year !! We all had a really enjoyable evening and will definitely be meeting there again. Thank you.

We moved back to the area in April of 2021 after relocating from Cottesmore. We left friends at our old local behind and missed them terribly. Then we found Paul and Lisa at The Anchor and instantly hit it off. Although we haven't lived in the area before we have family that have and to say they have accepted us is an understatement. We love going for pint most evenings and we regularly have their amazing steaks on a Thursday. Thanks for welcoming us and its so nice to have a landlord and landlady that cares for their customers. Keep up the great work both.

We stumbled on the Anchor by chance when looking for somewhere, halfway between Nottingham and Leicester, to meet friends for Sunday lunch. Undoubtedly the best lunch we’ve ever had. Great value and such a warm welcome from Lisa, Paul. Roast sirloin of beef cooked to perfection and served with an excellent selection of vegetables. Lisa’s cheesecake with its chocolate biscuit base just yummy. We need to diet for a week to prepare for our next visit!

We booked a table on pie night (on recommendation) - the pub has adapted to current COVID circumstances and has put up a large marquee outside that is light and airy. All the tables in the marquee were disinfected after the table was cleared, the tables and chairs were all very well spaced apart.A friendly greeting, hand sanitiser on arrival, a paper menu, ordering at the table for drinks and food, individual salt\vinegar - all positive indicators for the current life we are all experiencing. The individual pie we ordered was home made and tasty, the salted caramel cheesecake was amazing and a very generous portion. If you are looking for honest, well priced pub food then The Anchor Inn is certainly recommended!

We go to The Anchor a couple of times a week. Its not our local, but we feel like it is. Paul and Lisa are fabulous hosts, really welcoming, friendly and excellent at their jobs. The Anchor is a small family run pub, really friendly locals, staff and brilliant food. We usually eat here once a week, I personally love their steak sandwich, I'm not a fan of ciabatta bread, so they always do me a rustic type bread. It's amazing! The kitchen hads been closed for a thorough refurb and update after new year. I suppose the quiet month of January is the perfect time to do this, they are so busy with food it's difficult to fit in essential maintenance. We can't wait to come back to eat next week, I'm sure we'll be in for your amazing Sunday roast. Keep up the good work! Our most favourite local (or our non local pub).

We visited this establishment last year and found it a cosy pub, we ordered drinks and took a menu. We decided on two steak sandwiches which served with chips (triple cooked) when it arrived it looked lovely however we took a bite and all you could taste was salt and even the chips were covered in them. I like salt but I would season it myself. I understand chefs cook with salt but this had been put on after it was cooked. We left half our food. When asked if everything was ok we explained and the chap said this is how we always send it out. Guessing they are wanting u to drink more this is why they make it so salty. We paid and left.We decided to revisit the anchor this week to try something else. We had checked their website to make sure they were open as a lot of places shut during January, it only said they were shut after Christmas and back open for 3rd January. However when we arrived we noticed it was very quite. We walked in and no one was in there, we asked to see a menu and the lady behind the bar snapped at us saying they were not serving food. With the attitude we got we will never return, more training clearly needed, or do not do a job within the public sector. Lucky we continued on our way and found somewhere not too far away with friendly polite staff.

Sadly the Anchor has seen its share of problems, from the previous management being closed down for hygiene irregularities (although the food was still excellent ..) to small numbers of local supporters and limited numbers too of destination vistors.I'd like to support the Pub, but the owners seem to be having a difficult time, the small knot of regular drinkers has the feel of a clique, and the food quality has become erratic. Beers are consistently disappointing, and un-varied. Recent visits have not appealed.Hopefully the management may be able to turn things around; but it is hard to know where the Anchor's sweet spot lies.

First visit for a birthday celebration. Although having booked for a quiet table in the rear area, we were sat at a table in the bar area. Little concerned as being a Friday was busy with a table of ladies adjacent, but this was not a problem. The service was excellent, the choices varied and the duck I had was the best I’ve had. My husband enjoyed the individual steak pie, which was unique as it was not served in a dish, but on its own with gravy. Desserts were also generous, and the wine pleasant and sensibly priced. Hope to visit again in the future.

I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write a review!Me & my wife visit the Anchor quite regularly sometimes just for drinks and other time for the delicious home made meals. It's a 'proper' countryside pub in a cute village. Whilst there are a lot of locals that use it, anyone who works through the doors are made to feel welcome. The owners don't treat anyone any different.Food....I hate paying for food out and it just being 'OK'. You won't get just 'OK' in this place, you'll get tasty food and guess what - home made. They make their own batter, chips, pie cases and so on - you get what I'm saying. AND, it's so reasonable, for all that effort and great quality we still have to double check if they've charged us right as it's exceptional value.I would definitely drive past one of the pubs near by (if you're coming from Nottingham to Melton, you'll know the one!)When friends and family head to ours there question is 'are we off to the Anchor for food'....I know I'm rubbish cook, but my wife is a good cook!

Pleasantly old fashioned local serving mainly traditional pub food but usually has a dish or two with a different origin. Food well cooked and nicely presented, though our rare requested steak came nearer to being well done. All good value though, especially the wines. Deserves to be busier. Stopped here for lunch and the pub has a nice, cozy, friendly atmosphere and the Landlord was very friendly and welcoming. We couldn't decide between the Stilton burger and the Sunday roast for lunch so on his recommendation we chose both and had half each. It's probably one of the best burgers we've had in a while, very tasty but not too Iver the top. The toadtnwas also very nice and the veg that came along with it was very nice. The carrots and greens were in a garlic butter and the broccoli came with a cheese sauce. 100% worth the calories. Very reasonably priced too. Would recommend and is worth the detour from the A46 if you're after lunch on a long journey.

Me gusta mucho este lugar. Paul, el encargado, dice (y terrible gags debe saber uno cuando oigo una) pero él es un anfitrión excepcional, a pesar de ser nuevo en el comercio releatively. Visited after seeking alcoholic asylum from a nearby establishment that's gone downhill recently. Wow, what a great pub the Anchor is. It's 'local' community establishment that feels comfy like a much loved pair of slippers rather than pretensious nonsense. It attracts a broad cross section of customers just as a village pub should.Cosy looking fire for the winter time, good car park and clean loos. Beer is very well kept and not expensive. Came back for food the following day and had a 10oz ribeye with pepper sauce, not cheap but very memorable and cooked to perfection. Meat comes from a local farm shop -real melt in the mouth stuff. The chips are from the three times cooked method which is an artform in itself, and boy are they good! Fluffy on the inside crispy on the outside, much like myself if the truth be told. Desert comes on a slate (perhaps a sop to food on building marerial modernity, but go with it), is very tasty and we'll presented, the chef knows his stuff. Service is top notch, staff very friendly and the place is super welcoming. Will return....most Fridays...

We went to this pub with two friends for a fun meal out. This is a genuine old-fashioned pub with a bar area and a small dining room. The beers are good and the food is superb.Genuine home cooked on the premises.Three of us started with Mushrooms and Stilton Tarts on rocket while the fourth had salmon fish cakes. All four of us throughly enjoyed our starters with the tarts and the fish cakes getting full marksFor our mains three of us had Steak and Ale Pies with peas and chips or mashed potatoes. The fourth had beer battered fish with chips and peas. The fish was brilliant, with a god crisp batter and firm fish and not at all greasy - full marks. Th peas were full and the meat was tender and tasty with just the right amount of mushrooms and onion. The chips were home cut and crisp with just the right amount of fluffy interior while the peas were green and tasty - mushy peas available for those that preferred them. There was also a small boat of onion gravy. The pastry was firm and crunchy and just right. All in all the starters and mains were all we could manage and we all agreed that it was a very delicious meal and that the price was just right. Good helpings of real home-cooked food, good service and comfortable seats. It as a real atmosphere pub with plenty of the locals dropping in for beer and darts and a real smokey fire! And Alfie, the resident dog who was very friendly and welcoming. So, for a real pub with real food and a genuine pub feel The Anchor ticked all the boxes and we all agreed that we would return.

When food arrived it was good although portions were a bit small. We recently moved to the village in December and without this warming, village country pub wouldn't have met the lovely locals and people in surrounding villages. From the moment we walked into the pub we felt so at home. Whether you come in for a chat and a giggle at the bar with Paul and team, have a gorgeous Sunday Lunch, or pop in for a mid week meal; you will not be disappointed! Between my partner, I, and the family (that always insist a weekend in our village- purely I think for the local pub), we have tried every meal on the menu and have always been stunned at it's taste and presentation. It is quite clear that Simon, the chef, and Lisa, the sous chef, put their hearts and soul into every meal that comes out of the kitchen. After coming in with our nieces on many occasions we have found that the menu is perfectly suited to all ages and they are very happy to accommodate to anything that you may wish to change/substitute, I quite like that they provide a hearty meal at a reduced size, instead of offering a children's menu. As if it couldn't get any better the first Ladies Night was absolutely fabulous. The food was honestly exceptional, each of the six courses were perfectly executed and kept us wanting more and more. It was such a successful evening that The Anchor is organising more and more nights like this- the next one being in June! All in all, The Anchor Inn and it's team provide excellent service with tremendous home made food- what more could you want!

The owners are so welcoming. It's a quaint cute pub - and then - when the food arrives - it's wonderful! We are great lovers of good food and standards - and my husband is particularly picky! What this place turns out is amazing. We must have now tried almost every dish (and they change the menu due to seasonality) and never had a bad dish. Our family & friends insist on visiting us so they can go to the pub for the food - and to see us too! They cater for everyone, so we've had our nieces & nephews over, plus friends children and they will reduce portions and cook what you want - so all freshly cooked - my eldest niece loves it and always talks about it.The other great thing is although it's in a village - it's not a pure local place - so many of my friends have commented on how welcomed they're made to feel. You WILL not be disappointed at all - I can't recommend one dish - what ever your choice is, you will thoroughly enjoy it.PS - Alfie the pooch who is often in the pub (the owners dog) is adorable and really adds to it - and best of all - he doesn't pester you whilst eating.

Nice food - a bit more than your average pub food but the home made chips were covered in rock salt - this should be an option. Also, the peas were in butter - no thank you!! Then the scampi was deep fat fried? A strange combination of home made and cheap. No childrens menu and no apparent ease of preparing something child friendly. Very pleasant staff and a nice place but it almost feels like they are trying too hard which is a shame.

I joined a pub full of ladies to enjoy Ladies Night last evening, and it was fabulous. The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was lovely. Well done to Simon, Chef, Lisa, Sous Chef, Paul and team. What a successful and fun evening. You should be very proud to be producing such awesome home made food and providing excellent service.

We wanted to find somewhere in between Nottingham and Stamford to meet up with family and found The Anchor Inn on TA. Great little find. Warm and friendly. Highlights were the owners dog (very amusing), the great service and the homemade soup. Definitely recommend.

Stopped here whilst travelling from Nottingham to Peterborough so didn't no the place at all. Had a delicious roast dinner including almost the best yorkshire's I've eaten and plenty of meat. Followed this up with honeycomb ice cream and homemade cookies.Bill, including 2 drinks, came to £25 which we thought was a bargain. Thanks for making us feel welcome!

A very unassuming place with a limited menu and prices that suggest it won't be very good - don't be fooled, the food here was excellent and unbelievable value, not fussy but tasty and plentiful.Lisa the owner was very friendly and even gave us a lift home back to our B&B allowing us to enjoy our evening fully. We wish the well in the pub - its great!

This is a homely pub in a quiet area, serving tasty home-cooked food to match. Booking in early evening last Saturday for a meal - having done a little research on Tripadvisor to find a place within shooting distance of the hotel we were staying in, prior to an event in Melton Mowbray the next day - my friend and I chose from a not very extensive, yet perfectly adequate menu. The food - breaded camembert, steak and ale pie and chips, and apple pie - were all served in generous portions, and went down very well with the fine ale on tap. It is not just good food and drink served by the friendly owners that makes this a pub well worth the visit, though - it's the great atmosphere and very acceptable cost, too. For two three-course meals and half a dozen pints, the bill was a very palatable £41 - excellent value for money for two guys from Cheshire used to paying that for half the fayre! This is a local pub that's not just for local people! We took part in a couple of legs of darts and stayed around to see the pub fill with regulars, all of whom involved themselves in conversation with us (but without intruding unnecessarily, too). And the owners literally went out of their way to help us, including suggesting places we might stay next time we were in the area to avoid relatively long, definitely expensive and sometimes unobtainable taxi rides!I would definitely recommend this place for good food, good beer and a great place to wind down after a day on the road, too.

Found this pub on the way back from Nottingham. Tried it the first time, as we were just passing and hungry. Three of us had the scampi with chips and salad and one had steak and Ale pie with veg. All meals were freshly cooked, huge portions and very reasonable price.Yesterday, stopped by for the Sunday lunch, Roast Beef and all the trimmings - delicious, also lovely hot plates! Had the Toffee sponge for pudding -yummy. Again, very reasonable price.Sad to see a "for sale" sign, are we about to lose this oasis in the desert!

Going to an event in Melton Mowbray we happen to pass this pub in the village of Nether Broughton. It was a Saturday night and just opening for food at 6.00pm so we decided to give it a try. Found the staff to be friendly and helpful but no too pushy. I would describe it as a pub that serves food, so nothing too special. The menu contains all the standard pub fare such as Steak and Ale pie etc. Nothing too unusual or different, but it did have a specials board as well. Everything seems to be reasonably priced. The food took a little vile to come, so it was obviously being cooked fresh. When it arrived it was well cooked and a good sized portion. As it was early on a Saturday night the place was fairly quiet and we had a very relaxed meal. I think it a popular place to eat as overhearing a conversation about a booking for Sunday lunch apparently the pub would be full.We will be going back when in the area.

I've visited here a number of times for lunch and it's nice for a quick bite of lunch with friends, but wouldn't recommend for a special occasion. The pub is a "proper" pub with real ales and horse brasses, although a little updating wouldn't hurt, especially the toilets. The staff are friendly and happy to chat. Portion sizes are big, so have never managed a pudding. The menu is OK, a bit boring and not seasonal at all. Would be nice if a village pub more reflected it's surroundings and offered local produce.

Excellent food, quality real ale beers on tap, great service and the company of friends in a cosy local inn made for a wonderful evening. We opted for the Christmas menu and were served up a sumptuous fare. Homemade pate starter followed by the Christmas day standard of turkey, stuffing, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts etc - good homely food and full of flavour. Homemade bread and butter pudding accompanied with custard rounded off our menu. Will I go again, definitely. Others should judge for themselves. On the evening that we dined, all of the tables were full as was the bar area - that many people cannot be wrong...

Upon reading reviews about this place decided to visit, ( first mistake) we went for Sunday lunch and was treated by less than friendly staff who seem to like to moan about everything from her job role to the customers!!! We order drinks that was all wrong so we mentioned it to the bar maid who rolled her eyes at me, the food was very poor but full reconisation to chef microwave as was all heated up would rather travel the extra 10 miles and go to Nottingham service station at least I got a smile off the lady in the garage!!!!!

As a local to the Anchor eating and drinking I would like to say the present landlord/landlady have all ways made us very welcome when we are eating or just called for a drink . We think that the food is of a high standard very reasonably priced and plenty of it. The beer is some of the cheapest in the vale. I would just like to say that I was in the pub last Sunday dinner having a drink and after reading the negative comment left by one couple I think that some people can't be pleased no matter how hard you try. The pub was very busy with eaters/drinkers and I didn't see anyone else complaining and the roast dinners were all sold out later as thay are most Sundays.

Having read a most unacceptable review of the anchor we would like to set the record straight. From start to finish we all had a wonderful time. The greeting when we arrived was much more than friendly, the food was fabulous and such good value. There wasn't anything left on our plates. Even the children we had with us had eaten all the veg up! I would highly recommend anyone to visit this lovely village pub to either taste the fab food or just to enjoy a drink in a very friendly welcoming setting.

We visit the Anchor regularly for meals, we were sat next to this family on Sunday, in my opinion i felt that the landlady bent over backwards to accommodate this family by offering to replace your meal as well as a complementary drink. if the food was that awful how come you ate a majority of your food. The Anchor was very busy, no other complaints were made and on your exit you state, you would rather not pay for two of your meals that is not what you said your actual words were "I'm not paying for two of the meals" in my opinion it is understandable that the Landlady was upset as she had tried to accommodate you and then you refuse to pay for two meals, you then pay for the rest then leave a tip? This is our opinion our food was lovely.

We visited here for Sunday lunch with the family. We arrived to a friendly welcome and got drinks sorted the menu was limited to Sunday roast beef or pork but to be fair a chicken breast was offered for the kids which was nice of them. Unfortunately this is the end of the good news. The food came out very quickly so we can only assume it was pre cooked and reheated as the roast potatoes were hard and yorkshire puddings soggy. . We managed to eat two or if the 4 meals as we were starving and decided not to say too much to save embarrassing the staff and not to put off the other diners as this was just our opinion but we were asked midway how our food was and we said not good enough for 8 pounds a plate. . . Were offered a drink but we refused and asked for the chef's opinion if he felt the food was acceptable but he was to busy to speak to us. When paying the smiles soon disappeared when we said we'd rather not pay for two of the meals and the manager just huffed no apology offered and we left. We'll not be visiting again but I'm sure they'll not be too worried about that!

Me and the family stopped here after a long drive and after passing a few other pubs on route. We certainly were glad we stopped here. The car park is large enough to park a football team in. It has an average sized outside seating area, which we could not take advantage of as it was full. The table we had was clean and laid out nicely. The menu was great too, lots to choose from and plenty of meals the the young one.The pub may be small, but the staff and food are huge. The staff are very friendly indeed, and the food was excellent. Wold definitely stop here again.

I have taken my young family to eat at The Anchor twice now over the past month, once for the menu during the week (highly recommended) and once for the sunday lunch which the whole family thoroughly enjoyed. Certainly not shy on portions and everything we ordered was obviously home made. Compliments to the chef! This, along with a lovely, friendly welcome. We most certainly will be visiting in future.

Following pressure from the Brewery owners (who apparently wanted to sell the property), the previous Tenants have left (April 2013).New tenants are offering a more typical "pub snack" menu which, however good it will be, is not the same as the previous innovative offerings. Currrently food is only available at lunchtimes and on Saturday evening. New reviews needed!

Popped in here for a quick pint, and ended up ordering one of their baguettes (steak and onion) to share between us. My partner said the guiness was excellent here, for those who like their guiness. They accidentally brought a bacon and brie baguette to us, which as it happens was not for the wrong table, but an error, we said we'd happily have instead, as it looked delicious and we were hungry. It was just as good as it looked - nice quality bacon, and a little pot of cranberry sauce to the side. They also brought us the steak baguette - and I was very surprised at how good the steak was - beautifully pink and tender (I'm very picky, and normally end up cutting off all bits of fat and sinew, but I ate every scrap!), with fried onions inside, and a little pot of onion marmalade on the side.I wasn't really expecting anything of it foodwise, as it's quite a small, unassuming little pub, serving your usual (home made) pub grub but we will definitely be popping back the next time we're hungry and at a loose end. We tried to pay for the bacon and brie baguette, as it had been so nice but the barman/owner wouldn't let us, nor accept a drink instead, so we tried to incorporate it in a tip instead. Cosy little pub run by a friendly family, nice reasonably priced food, will go again.

The Anchor is just a walk across fields from where I live, so I eat there regularly. The chef proprietors create a range of excellent, simply but perfectly cooked, meals at exceptional value for the quality. Go for the dining (and DO go, it is genuinely a really enjoyable starter and main!); it is a tied house so their choice of beers is OK but .. They have a reasonable range of inexpensive wines. If you like the food as much as I do you might ask if you could bring a better bottle and pay corkage on it ;-) ..Overall a friendly welcome and an un-complicated, un-spoilt village Public House with exceptional value meals. Worth the trip!

We visited as a last minute booking for 2 families totalling 22 people the day after our daughters wedding. The owners and staff were very accommodating and friendly and put on Sunday lunch for us with only 2 days notice. Both mains and desserts were good ( a choice of chicken or beef for main course) and everyone was very happy with their meal. The facilities are great for all ages with a games and toys room and a play area with a swing, slide and climbing frame in the garden which our children enjoyed. Other members of our family had visited on the Friday night and they were very satisfied with the meals and service they received too. Thank you for contributing to a lovely weekend. I’ve visited The Royal Oak quite a few times, and it never fails to impress. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently fabulous. Every visit is brilliant. I brought my family for Sunday lunch today, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Pat and Bini, the owners, are incredibly welcoming, which makes the experience even more special. I absolutely love this pub and can’t recommend it highly enough. A huge thank you to the entire team at the Royal Oak!
