We were 2 couples having dinner at at The Anchor and it was absolutely delicious. We all had different starters and mains and non of the food disappointed us. We've been here several times now over the years (we live in Nottingham). The portions are huge too, so even Dodger (the dog) enjoyed the extra beef and chicken. Stefh and the staff really looked after us. Thank you to you all for a great afternoon. See you again very soon. Caroline

We come to Tideswell several times in a year and always book a table at The Anchor inn. Lots of choice where to eat here, but the Anchor never disappoints. I'm a bit of a soup connoisseur, so decided to try Steph's Vegetable soup and it was so tasty and chucky. Loved it! Had the mussels next which were cooked delightfully in a creamy sauce. All the staff work hard to make it feel like home from home and totally succeed. Thank you again for such and enjoyable meal, made more perfect by celebrating with friends, who were equally impressed. See you soon guys. Thanks Saul

Drove specially to the pub as it has a specific Vegan menu (thank-you from a long-suffering, non-vegan, husband). Welcomed like old friends by the wonderful Serena and crew. Food took a while only because the chef insisted on making the Homity Pie from scratch as they had run out (bless him)! It was delicious! Just wished we lived nearer as we’d make it our local. Next time we’ll demand to see Rick. I’m in stitches reading his counter-reviews 😂

Stopped in this lovely little retreat for a meal on the way home from Stockport County away at Mansfield. I was with my thirteen year old daughter. Bar Staff was pleasant. A bit of a wait for our meal however the pub was extremely busy. My daughter ordered cheesy nachos and myself the Beef and Ale Pie which was excellent I must say. My disappointment is the fact I have no grounds to write a stinking review as that would of prompted a hilarious response from Rick, that I have read on a couple of reviews. No complaints from me or my daughter, I am wouldn't hesitate to drop in again when passing. Thanks.

Paid £16.50 for pie, tripple cooked chips in beef dripping and peas. Meal.arrived with a handful of frozen French fries. When we bought it to the waitresses attention, she said they did not have any of the other chips left! Told the assistant manageress at payment, expecting a reduction in price and she said .. (and I quote honestly) "well you did both clean your plates" Realised what I was dealing with so I bit my lip and said, we'll leave it at that then! and paid £16.50. The meal was worth around £9 tops

Sunday evening meal in a lovely local pub. Very friendly team led by the even friendlier Serena. Dog friendly a real bonus and he was even given a little treat. Different eating areas to louder bar/tap room where football was on so everyone was accommodated. Even husband’s request for cream/ ice cream and custard on his pudding was arranged! Thank you.

01/06/2024 Approximately 21.00. The beef pie was full of meat with a rich ale gravy, although the accompanying gravy which was poured on top was clearly made from a packet. The beef dripping chips didn't taste, or look any different to regular supermarket frozen chips. However, the most off putting thing about our visit was the sight of a bar maid vaping behind the bar. She was approximately 30 y/o, long, dark hair and generous with her make up. It really questions what the standards are like in the kitchen if staff are behaving this way when customer facing.

We booked a table for 11 guys and what a great experience, regardless of what meals we chose, all were well presented, excellent quality and of generous portion size (all credit to the chef and their team) . We all agreed, the meals were really outstanding and far superior compared to the usual pub fare you might expect. The staff were friendly and welcoming and looked after us well. Our special thanks go to Serena and Claire who handled the initial booking arrangements some weeks ahead and our later pre-order, which all went to plan. Thank you for looking after us so well, it did feel special.

This was our second visit to The Anchor Inn and once again we weren’t disappointed, my daughter and I had the big Jack burger which we both agreed was lovely and my girlfriend had the 10oz gammon which she said was lovely too, the Cajun onion rings were great and my daughter wolfed down the sticky toffee pudding, I was too stuffed for a dessert but would love to try one soon. This is one of my favourite pubs and well worth the hours drive from Runcorn, we’ll definitely be back……

We tried the Anchor last night for the first time. The manager and her staff were warm and welcoming. She told us the beef and ale pie was really big. That was an understatement. When i saw pie i knew id never be able to-eat it all. The manager noticed and asked if id like it halved and i took the test home. The pie was packed with meat. More meat than you usually get in a pub pie. It cut straight through without the filling oozing. The pastry was beautiful but i still struggled to eat half. The beef dripping chips were heavenly. We are in the area one weekend a month and will definitely be back. Booked in instantly for the end of May Bank Holiday. Excellent value for money and can’t wait to return x

Well, everywhere else in Tideswell where we could sit down for food was shut, or the chef was off sick so we ended up here for a quick bite to eat. Can't review the food as it didn't arrive before we had to leave for an appointment. I appreciate it might be cooked from scratch but we should have been told how long the wait would be. It wasn't busy. 45 mins is unacceptable.

Right from the first engagement when I rang to book a table to a lovely chat with Serena the Manager at the end of our.visit this was the most enjoyable of evenings. A pint of Unicorn Ale while I looked at the menu which was very appetising I selected the Steak and Unicorn Ale pie served with beef dripping chips and peas with a wonderful gravy, accompanied by a large glass of Malbec which was perfect. Needless to say I passed on pudding after what was a very substantial main - makes sure you're hungry in the case of the pie! My wife and sister had the lighter pan fried cod with green vegetables and did leave space for desserts - syrup sponge and custard and lemon meringue pie with ice cream and there were no complaints! Katie delivered friendly and attentive service at our table throughout our meal. Lovely fire alight which aptly reflected the warmth of the welcome. Highly recommend a visit - pub is just over a 10min walk from the centre of Tideswell village at the junction with the A623 and I discovered like my local in Kent it was an old coaching inn dating back to the 1600's and for The Anchor read the Anchorage for the horses who would I'm sure have been well fed and watered along with their passengers and drivers as they traversed the Peak District on route to/from Manchester. Loved the engagement as you learn so much about local history. We shall return! Thank you Serena and Katie from Tim, Kath and Mandy.

We popped in after an afternoon walk thinking we could get some decent pub grub but we were sadly mistaken. We went in last year and thought we'd just landed in a bad evening as the food took ages to come out and was cold so had to be sent back twice. We thought we'd try it again today, some 6 months later, only to find we had to wait quite a while again and the food was cold so had to send back, and meat was dry and tasteless. No sauces offered either and had to ask for gravy on a Sunday roast. Very disappointed ☹️

Though we'd driven past many times, we'd never been inside the Anchor until today. We already had somewhere booked but later than preferred, so this time we popped in to check it out. With an old arthritic hound who struggles with hard floors and cramped corners, we always look for enough space and carpeted area to accommodate her. This had both. On entering, I was warmly greeted by a lovely lady (whose name I really wished I'd asked) who we discovered works there 3 days a week. She was so welcoming and helpful; I was immediately impressed, and the theme continued throughout. All the staff seemed delightful and the food options impressed us too. It can be tough to find alternative choices on a Sunday, but here - along with the traditional roasts, was a full and interesting menu plus great specials board. I chose the partridge and my partner went for steak and ale pie. Both were delicious. The portion sizes were spot on and all the veg perfectly cooked. My apple pie and custard was wonderfully warming on a wet and windy day. Our dog was also spoilt with gravy bones - a nice touch. I notice another reviewer commented on the tired decor. Personally, we thought it was a 'proper' pub with a nice, homely feel, but for anyone who doesn't agree, it's getting a full refurb in January 2022. Either way, we'll definitely be back: great staff, fab food, dog friendly and close to walks like Tideswell and Millers Dales. Perfect!

Ate here this evening and while the food was tasty, the Beef and Ale Pie my husband ordered was a very pale anaemic pie, with not much of an ale flavour. What made it odd, was that the table behind us ordered several pies which we could see were a lovely dark traditional pies in individual dishes??? I ordered sausage and mash, which was lovely. Staff were very friendly and polite, but unfortunately we won't return.

Stumbled across this gem tonight on the hunt for somewhere to eat on our Wedding Anniversary. Hubby had the slow cooked bbq ribs which were so tender the meat fell off the bone and myself the steak and ale pie. I have never had a pie so full of tender meat. A friend had recommended that a few of us have dinner at this pub after our day exploring the Peak District. We were served by a friendly and warm lady, Serene, who immediately made us feel at home. She combined that warmth with a thorough knowledge of what the pub had to offer. Two of us had the burger special, the meat for which was sourced from a nearby farmer, while the other two had the roast pork, which was sourced from the local region. We also had the onion rings and salt and pepper chicken to start. They were happy to switch the sauce for the burger special on my partner's order for a regular sauce. The food was simply divine, as evidenced by the totally empty plates by the end of dinner. It was also the first ever pub dinner I had been to where they actually brought out taster beer shots to help us decide which beer to have when we were having trouble making up our minds! Very impressed with how they put the customer first. It was the best dinner I had had in a long time, which was thanks to both the quality food and the warm service.

Due to the pandemic, pubs, pub suppers, good ales, and friendly table service were threatening to become a distant memory. Could the Anchor Inn - still burdened by enforced (and sensible!) anti covid measures still get across some of the magic that makes places like this special?Yes. Yes it could. Food was delicious, reasonably priced and with a fair few options that elevated it beyond the usual pyhb service excellent (even more so if you were a dog), and Even tied to Robinsons(?) it still had an excellent range of ale,

Heading home from The Peak District to Portsmouth, after a full day paddle boarding on the peak forest canal,we needed food. It was gone 9pm and most places had stopped serving food. We pulled in to The Anchor car park under a sign that said "Food served all day". It was false hope, they had stopped serving. However, the landlady and her staff bent over backwards to make us some paella and a portion of home made salt and pepper chips. We even had the cheese cake pudding. Just what we needed before the long drive home. They could not have been nicer.

We ate here today on recommendations from the cottage we are staying at and we are so glad we did. Not only did they let us change the time of the booking but the food was absolutely delicious. Piping hot and served by exceptionally professional staff. The pie and the lemon meringue cheesecake were second to none. All covid guidelines were adhered to, and we felt completely safe. Traditional home cooked food at its best.

We came here for an evening meal whilst on holiday. we had a lovely table in a separate room of the pub and found the staff to be warm, friendly and helpful. When we emailed to book, they telephoned us to go through the menu as we had a vegan and a coeliac which I thought was great customer service. The food was standard pub grub, nice but nothing to rave about. My vegan daughter had been looking forward all week to coming here and was disappointed that the dish she had her eye on was not available and was offered a vegan burger with no bun as an alternative. My husband however was very pleased that they had gluten free pudding options, which he does not normally get. The rating I am giving this pub is very much based on the lovely staff and service, the food would just be three stars.

Just had a great meal out. One veggie roast and a black and blue burger. The roast was so much more than a plate of veg, full of flavour and large portion size. The burger included black pudding and blue cheese on top of a quality burger. Again, enough to fill anyone with great tasting, flavoursome quality food at a good price. Followed by luxurious desserts and coffee.

We called in here on a drive from Chesterfield to Stockport, having wanted to visit for some time due to the Pub’s attractive appearance. We were not disappointed. The pub is dog friendly and has excellent period features inside. Staff were brilliant, very friendly and welcoming to us and the Labrador, who was made a fuss of and given some biscuits by the staff. The menu has a wide selection of meals - something for everyone. The Robinson’s ale and meat pie is delicious. The pub does various ethnic foods as specials - today featuring Brazilian food. The fish stew with rice was amazing! There is a good selection of beers and ales, as well as coffee, tea and soft drinks for the driver. A fantastic country pub that is well worth the visit.

We stopped here hungrily on the way home from a day's hiking. First visit after driving past so many times, but we will be stopping a lot more from now on. The food was amazing, we were lucky to catch the first weekend of their Taste the World menu. The Jamaican curry was quite simply one of our favourite meals ever, and the treacle tart so good I am not gonna brush my teeth so I can keep the taste in my mouth! Lovely friendly staff and nice, homely pub. Looking forward to our next visit.

The staff at this pub are great and super friendly and helpful. Very welcoming. The food was good, especially the veggie burger and salmon. We missed the specials menu and it probably should have been flagged by the staff, but we were still happy with our choices. Also our server didn’t know any of the beers when we asked and no drinks menu. Small details, but we still had a great time.

We have passed this pub many times driving around the Peak, but today thought we would give it a try for an impromptu family lunch after reading the reviews here. What a delight, a good choice on the menu for our varied tastes plus daily specials meant we could all find something we wanted, which is a bit unusual with two teenagers, one of who is a vegetarian .The service was very friendly, Covid measures first rate with plenty of space and the food was excellent and good value. Looking forward to returning soon.

We had our own corner of the pub with out dogs, and all were made to feel very welcome. The dogs were brought a bowl of water, for example. My burger, with Derbyshire black pudding, was excellent. Sometimes additions to burgers don't really go well together, but the moist black pudding was delicious on its own but moreover created something with the burger that was better than each filling combined. Robinson's Trooper on tap, first class. Very friendly service. The restaurant gave us 50% off our food, extending the government scheme into September at their expense. We tried to insist on paying full price but they would not take it. Good social distancing measures, including track & trace, floor markings, hand sanitiser.

Just come back from a great lunch at The Anchor, with my husband and children. We rang this morning and they managed to squeeze us in at the time we required. Serena and the team made us (and our dog) feel really welcome. The service was friendly and although you could see they were busy, everything arrived in good time. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and we enjoyed it so much we have booked to go back at the end of the week!

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
