£5 for 1 latte and an Americano (which tasted like vinegar) - and a 25 minute wait. It wasn't very busy and the people next to us had waited 15 minutes for their drinks. I seriously don't know why the service in this place was so shambolic!!! The guy bringing the coffee over didn't seem to know what he was doing....other people were getting wrong orders given to them......I would never set foot into this place, the owners need to pay it a visit and see how it's been run into the ground by the staff...

We order a classic espresso and a Cuban. The espresso coffee its impossible to finish to drink. Have a horrible taste. Instead the Cuban that should be with condensed milk taste as a classic cappuccino. We are so disappointed for this experience. I have 13 years of experience working in a coffee shop in the centre of Rome, Italy.

Like the style of the place - classic vintage in one half and sleek and modern in the other. Coffee and tea are pretty good, although if you do order coffee you don’t get much, or a saucer for the cup, so don’t spill any...

I visited here with my daughter (10) for a mid-morning brew. Located not far from the University of Manchester and Whitworth Art Gallery it is easy enough to find. As you will see from the photo it used to be a pub but once inside it is a tale of two halves. The front has retained its pub look and feel but at the back is a modern area with lots of light and tables and chairs. We found it easy enough to find a spot but I suspect at peak times it may get busy. As well as coffee there are food options including bagels, soup and waffles. I went for a bacon bagel and my daughter the waffle with cream and Nutella. We also had a Macchiato and a hot chocolate (with cream and marshmallows) The drinks came quickly and the coffee was excellent. My daughter found the hot chocolate a bit on the strong side but after she had polished off the cream they were happy to top it up with more milk. The bagel and waffle were both great. I also gave a Cuban a try having not come across it before. This had condensed milk as well as espresso and milk. It was really good. I’m not a massive milky coffee drinker but I would have that again. In terms of practicalities, there is WiFi and toilets available. The staff were really friendly and we will definitely be back.

After a Saturday morning parkrun at Platts Field park we tried the Anchor for the first time. There was plenty of parking behind the shops and we arrived not long after it opened at 10. It was quiet but there was a warm welcome and a relaxing atmosphere. The menu was not extensive but we were happy with a pain au raisin, pain au chocolat and a cinnamon bun, all tasty and very fresh. We had a tea, americano, cappucino and a piccolino ( very small) , very nice coffee. The main menu is based around bagels and I could not resist ordering one to take away - New York Deli - choice of bagel, pastrami, dutch cheese, mustard mayo and gherkin - really good. The cafe also supports work in the local community. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will return. Discount for NHS staff

This was my first visit to Manchester University, and what struck me most about the area around the campus was the dearth of decent cafes! After walking round campus for 30 mins with two other academic colleagues, we finally stumbled upon Anchor. When we arrived around 9.30 pm on a Friday morning (admittedly before the beginning of the teaching term at the University), the place was empty - there were literally no customers. The cafe is nicely furnished, with lots of space and a less-is-more approach to the menu. We ordered various bagels, porridge (with honey and Nutella), tea and coffee. Food was tasty and service was courteous and prompt. Would visit again. Only markdown was the two mini bars of chocolate I bought at the till, produced by a small local artisan manufacturer. Chocolate was disappointing, particularly given the relatively high cost. But then again, I am really fussy about the quality of chocolate!

This quiet corner is a comfortable change from more bustling chain coffee shops, offering excellent, simple fare in a friendly, feel-good environment. Bagels are outstanding, along with the coffee. While I didn’t sample other menu items I imagine those are prepared with equal care and quality.

Always been slightly disappointed with here. The food, whilst good, is simply not served in sufficient portions- I have always left feeling hungry despite spending £10 plus on tea, a bagel, and cake. Sort it out and I'll be back, otherwise it's somewhere to avoid.

I like the fact this place is a converted pub, shows the changing times of our society. And a great conversion too, nice seating and natural light. The menu is minimal. Bagels, soups etc. I did forget to ask for my bagel to be toasted......

The service & staff were pleasant. The food was little better than mediocre. The most outstanding aspect of this experience of eating at Greggs, Cherry St Birmigham was the filthy condition. There were straws on the seats. Servietes on the floor and ripped up sugar containers, all littering the floor. The place wasn't that big and would only have taken 3 or 4 minuets to clean. I asked how they can serve people food in such a dirty environment. I was told they were too busy to clean. I said what about the 2 people in the back, that I could clearly see. She siad do you want to go and ask them? I declined. They have got their priorities wrong. Clean first, serve food second, but then I suppose it's all about making money. I certainly won't go back, and nor will I go to another Greggs.

I had the vegan breakfast which exceeded my expectations, although I felt the placement of a spring roll and falafel was quite random. It was the first time I tried tofu and it was extremely nice. Even the toast was spot on! For £6, it was good value for money, especially knowing I could eat everything in the cafe without having to worry. The smoothies were nice too, but were a bit more like juice since they weren’t as thick as a smoothie. I really enjoyed the vibe of the cafe as everyone was so friendly there, it really reminded me of a cafe I used to work at with its chill atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back. They’re also on this fantastic app called ‘Too Good To Go’ which gives you the food a place has leftover at the end of the day at a reduced price so that it doesn’t go to waste! Definitely check it out if you want to save food from being wasted, or just fancy a surprise for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Friendly and welcoming little cafe. Lovely coffee, good service, best cakes. We had the banana bread -moist, spiced and topped with nuts and seeds- and an iced lemon polenta cake also delicious.

Revisited the cafe a couple of times last year. First in Oct where I had a sausage and egg on toast and some tea. Nothing remarkable as the sausage was of the cheap variety. Bought a couple of slices of the fruit cake which looked nice to take away and it wasn't bad! Staff were really nice and there was seating at the back, beyond the store front. Second time was for breakfast after a morning walk. We ordered 2 breakfasts - can't remember which but they were huge! Very impressed when it arrived and the sausages were of much better quality. Very pleased with what we had then but sadly the cafe isn't open as early now so we can't really go before work like we were able to in the past. The cafe has been closed for a while now but hopefully we will be able to visit for brekkie when it reopens.
