Stayed here for the night when heading down south, the room was very nice and clean plenty of space and access from outside where there was plenty of parking space , the bar area was not too bad with friendly locals and bar staff making us very welcome we would definitely stop here again when on our travels as it wasn’t too far from the motorway

Clientele - questionable. Beer - no gas, several pints returned while we were there. Facilities - smelled of the strongest bleach in the world but no toilet paper in there and not that clean. Staff - not even versed in the art of conversation and gave us no attention at all. TV - volume FAR too loud for the size of the pub and the number of people in there. Food - waited an absolute age (40 mins +) when no other customers eating so no delay while preparing other orders. Condiments - sauces almost empty bottles, salt spilled everywhere. Meals of which we ordered three which could have easily been warmed if prepared in advance were all but inedible - over done veg lasagne. Dry as you like cottage pie, spicy sauce on chicken wrap was the only flavour. An added hair in the veg lasagne, an incorrect variation of the accompaniments to go with cottage pie. Corrected by the provision of a massive bowl of chips (still missing another side portion ordered and paid for) which were then completely undercooked. When asked if food was ok - we said absolutely not to which the bar maid said but was it ok though???? Which we had already said no to! So she took one plate away - we assumed she had gone to speak to kitchen but she appeared about 5 minutes later after having had a smoke and went to tidy table over the other side of the pub and completely ignored us and the other two dirty plates!!!!! No apology, no offer of compensation or free dessert or drinks, not anything from kitchen staff - nothing! Completely useless service, poor facilities, expensive prices and will not ever visit the premises again - also god knows how the rooms would have been if we had been staying over! Avoid Avoid Avoid.

Terrible Only 15 people in the pub and garden, none of whom were eating. We ordered 3 basic meals and had to wait 38 minutes. One meal was cottage pie which was advertisrd as coming with Chips or Seasonal Veg - we ordered chips but got veg. Another meal was vegetable lasagne which arrived hard and dry. We had also ordered a pprtion of chips which was forgotten. They rectified this by serving a larger than normal portion of chips but they were not properly cooked and therefore largely inedeible. We ate the maim courses as had a long journey ahead and, having waited so long, would mot have time to stop again. When the girl came to clear our plates she asked if everything was ok, we told her all of the above and she just took one plate away, no word of apology and then avoided coming near us again I would not recomnend this place at all. A pub with an empty beer garden on a sunny Summer's should have told us everything we needed to know I suppose.

The pub itself was a bit rough and ready, lots of locals having a good drinking session (it was a Friday evening after all) young kids running around…. being kids, however maybe a busyish bar is not the place…. Food was average nothing special just like home cooked food…. Room was surprisingly comfortable big bathroom and comfortable bed…. Good job we didn’t want breakfast and that we paid on arrival as there was no one about when we left, we couldn’t seven hand the keys in we had to leave them in the door of our room….. overall it was a decent enough place….

DO NOT STAY HERE. we stayed in their 'B&B' recently which I struggle to see how they are able to do that, feels massively like false advertising as we were kicked out of the venue after not being offered a breakfast of any sorts and practically had to beg for a coffee. The rooms we stayed in were dusty and the blinds had dead flies all over them. the beds were bowed, itchy and also dusty so left with a sore back and horrible feeling lungs. Also loud dogs barking all through the night as well as being kept up until 12.3 at night with the room shaking with music from the pub below, it felt like we were in a club. After calling to ask what time the music would be switched off we were assured it would be turned down (which it was by about 1%) and then were met with an increased noise from the pub below in protest of the music being turned down. I'm sure the pub is fine but as far as an overnight stay goes this is hands down the worst experience I have ever had.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting the Malvern Show. Although the accomodations was very nice and suited us, the service was poor. Landlady well put out that we wanted breakfast at about nine because she had a hair appointment at 8:30. Agreed 8:00 and was served quite rapidly and without asking what we would like (no menu) just two of EVERYTHING on a plate , (very over facing) . Landlady clearly not interested in guests more in her friends at the bar. Capped with finding out power went off in the morning and when told landlady she just said "oh yeah, some work being done" Hadn't bothered to inform us at breakfast, we could have been mid shower or hair drying! Altogether disappointing visit, poor service and unfriendly. Won't be back any time soon I'm afraid. .

Was very disappointed as we told kitchen opened at 5. At 5 went to the bar to order only to be told they weren't doing food! We were sat outside and saw the barmaid scurrying back to the kitchen a little while later. carrying plates, looked through the window guiltily. Made it obvious they didn't want to serve us. To be honest the landlady was more interested in chatting and drinking a G&T at the bar very rude. Go to the Talbot instead!

We regularly use this local pub for drinks and snacks and decided to visit today specifically to have a meal with drinks with friends, we had a couple of rounds of drinks waiting till gone 5pm to order food, to be told by the person behind the bar that as they’d had a power cut earlier in the day. When we said we live nearby and our electric was restored at 1.15 , the landlady then said from the side something had blown in the kitchen, which was obviously a lie as plates were cleared away after we walked away. Not a great way to treat your locals let alone lie as you’d rather continue drinking your g and t in the bar.We took our custom to the next pub along the road who were happy to take our money.

Sun is out so we thought we would go out for tea and support our local. Drinks served without issue but when we went in to order food the bar maid seemed unsure as she said the power was off! I pointed out as we live right next to the pub we were fully aware that the power had been off today but had been back on since 1pm. She then looked to the manager who was sat drinking with friends? And asked her if she was doing food. The manager tried telling us that the power wasn’t working in the kitchen? But we had seen empty plates being taken back in.! Just tell the bloody truth! If you didn’t fancy cooking tonight then say so and put the menus away. Very disappointed . There were six of us in our party and we voted with our feet. Another pub in the village very close by were more than happy to have our custom. We won’t be returning. I suggest the brewery have a chat with their staff re customer service.!

As it was quite nice we sat outside and out comes the older woman with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth putting more wood on the pizza oven !!! Our welcome was friendly and warm. The bedroom was reached via an uncovered outside stairway and was clearly part of a recent addition. It was a little small as was the bathroom, but was quite adequate for a one-night stay. The bed was comfortable and clean. The evening meal was good but the bar was very crowded and several people accidentally bumped into us as we ate, which was not so good. To cool the room the door to the bsr and the outside door were wedged open and this caused a cold draught at our table. I was not allowed to close the door. Breakfast was good and served quickly.

The Anchor is a no frills, no nonsense family friendly pub with welcoming atmosphere. Landlord and landlady keep a tight but friendly ship, with a flavour of their Newcastle background. They have fitted into the village of Kempsey with a very positive outlook and this has endeared them to many locals who are now 'regulars'. The menu is quite straightforward and manages to cater for a variety of preferences. On my most recent visit I tried the rump steak (during winter I mostly had the beef casserole which is very tasty too). My steak was very well cooked in the manner I prefer: medium rare. It had a caramelised surface for added flavour and was pink inside for juicy texture. It did - as my old mum would say - 'eat well' too! Texture was very good, especially for the modest price. I have paid considerably more for steaks less tender and less flavoursome than this! I was very happy to let both hosts know how much I enjoyed it. The Anchor also make and serve very good pizzas, cooked in a proper, outdoor, pizza oven. A large, covered, outdoor eating area plus a grassy garden make it ideal for family visits, particularly on any nice days. Yes; I shall be back for another steak before long.

Kempsey has at least 3 pubs along the road through the village. We called by at lunchtime. It was quiet with just 2 other customers. We waited a minute or two for someone to come to the bar. The bar lady was bright and welcoming. The food is pub grub. We ordered from a lite bite menu. There were baguettes, only white, which come with coleslaw, salad garnish, chips and a cup of soup. There were also pub favourites such as scampi, pies, ham and eggs, all with chips and generally a choice of peas. We waited perhaps 20 minutes for the food, which is a good thing because obviously everything was freshly cooked/prepared. The plates were laden with food which at 6 quid a time or a fiver each if you by 2, was exceptional value. The chips may well have been cooked twice and were delicious. This is a "sports" pub, the TV was on but the volume was muted. The interior is fine but lacks a bit of refinement. There is a biggish garden with an extensive covered area. I suspect this pub comes alive in the evening. I would certainly recommend it for a no frills, wholesome quality lunch at a very competitive price.

The Anchor has had several lots of managers recently and the current pair are the rudest and most unhelpful of all of them. The welcome waiting is the coldest I have ever experienced and we returned several times to give them a fair chance, according to a few beer drinkers the beer not very good, the landlord even swore at a gentleman when he explained to him that the beer was not as it should be, other people agreed as they had experienced the same. It has also become very expensive after a sharp rise in price and a lot of local people now who are their bread and butter now drink elsewhere because of the frosty welcome and rudeness they have experienced. Not a pleasant evening. We hope for a warmer welcome from the next landlord/landlady when they arrive-if they arrive. If nobody else arrives as a group we will not be going back.

Having visited the Anchor many times over the years for a drink on a Saturday evening, I was more than surprised when I called in on Sunday afternoon for a drink. To say that the Anchor has gone down is something of an understatement. It is now borderline scruffy, with tatty furniture and fixtures and fittings. There was no one in the pub when I arrived which is not surprising when looking around the interior. Bar area was scruffy and only two real ales available. Glasses supplied with our drinks were smeared, not dirty but they had not been wiped dry, hence the smears. Real shame about the Anchor, as it is a large pub with good car parking and a large garden with lots of seating. The other pub in Kempsey which was open on Sunday afternoon, had a full car park and looked inviting. Unfortunately the Anchor was the first pub we passed. This is definitely a pub which I suspect will either be up for sale or boarded up in the near future. I for one will not be returning.

This place is a fantastic gastronomic secret waiting to be discovered. Popped in, soaking wet, after doing the 5 mile Abberley Circuit. From the outside it just looks like your average village pub, but inside the first thing you notice is that it must have only been (tastefully) refurbished recently. Nice clean lines, using plenty of wood while still retaining traditional village pub features, such as its tables and chairs. A burning fire provided additional cheer. A snack was all we were after and, fortuitously, from the sandwich menu I chose The Beefy. The generous beef was to die for, cooked quite rare with a crispy exterior, sliced into chunks to fit, overlappingly, into toasted bread (probably sourdough). A fried egg on top, cooked to runniness, with a circular hole cut into the upper toasted slice to reveal the yolk. Accompanied by a delicate slaw and some fine skin-on fires. It was ecstasy. In addition, the service was charming. Alas I live 120 miles away so won't be going back even though I'd like dine there properly - several times.

Spot on service and food! We visited here on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was busy and despite this, we had excellent service. The food was brilliant, I had the Dragon Pie and it was quite honestly the best pie I have eaten in a long time.
