The Anchor in Central Bedfordshire

This is one of the next places I have visit in many year's. I had a family occasion celebrating a birthday for my brother who has various medical conditions. Firstly the place is extremely clean and well laid out with beautiful decor The options of indoors, covered outdoors (with heaters) and a garden which included a play area could not have been better Menu for food was absolutely value for money and good quality More importantly the staff were amazing. Very friendly and welcoming but the willingness to go above and beyond as if it was quite normal day to day work was fantastic. Kirsty and Dan could not have done any more to make the day for us - what was special it seemed so normal for them who were quite happy to do what they can for anyone visiting the place This has now become our number one spot to return to whenever we are in Bedford Thank you guys for just being you and such wonderful hosts

Visited for a birthday celebration tonight. The food was lovely, service was fantastic, prices extremely reasonable. Harriet served us and was polite, friendly and very professional. We will definitely be visiting again especially for the 8oz gammon! Thank you Anchor Bedford fir a lovely meal and fantastic service. 😀

Katsu curry was nice but not quite as nice as last visit. Sweet chilli chicken could be slightly hotter. Lovely service from Maria.

Staff very friendly and efficient in giving a gluten free meal. Food was very tasty and to our liking. Will definitely return when in this area again.

Really wouldn't bother. Starters never arrived. However, the table that did receive our starters didn't exactly refuse free food! Sharing plates weren't sufficient for sharing. As for the burger, cheapest, thinnest, driest burgers ever. Got refunded for the starters we never received. Now in McDonald's down the road, which is actually more appetising! Sorry, but won't be returning to The Anchor.

Was nice team and friendly but when ordering my food I didn't get chips on top what I ordered 3 pound something for the chips and didn't have any but other then that friendly staff

We had a booking here for fathers day I can not express how excellent the service was. we was seated very quickly to a reserved table we had all the information given to us from the begging of how to order and where as it was our first time here. food came out very quickly hot and delicious compliments to the chef I had a duo roast all was to great standard. The staff here was poliet, smiley and helpful even though they was busy they still made sure every table and customer was happy. massive thank you to both the ladies who took our order and made sure we was all ok throughout our time here and for the outstanding service and customer expeince we will be back again. sorry we didn't get a chance to get your names but hope you both see this thanks paul

I can honestly say Becki made my weekend, she was always genuinely happy to see us, welcoming us with a smile. We really enjoyed chatting to her while she served us, we were a large table of 14 and dined and drank here most nights and she handled us like a pro, even remembering our drinks orders. Great service and dinner was lovely. Becki you’re a great asset and if you’re ever down in Devon you should come visit! Xx

Went here for dinner, we have not been since it has all been reopened. Glad we did, the food was beautiful, the atmosphere was great, pub is very modern. So glad them doors are gone and no separation in the pub its opened it up and looks so much better. I have a gluten allergy and there was so many options to choose from. Many thanks to the ladies Kirsty and Anna who made our visit such a delight fantastic service very helpful and polite. Will be back again.

Recently refurbished and new staff and management is exactly what this place needed and that is what’s brought my family back and I can 100% say it’s improved immensely 10/10 you have to try the blue burgers it’s banging 😂

My wife enjoyed her Sirlion steak but made me turned up only warm. I managed only a third of it. The waitress offered me a drink but a reduction in the bill would have suited me better. The staff were cheerful and the area was clean

Great atmosphere, great vibe and decor. Love the outside area. Polite staff and a good range of drinks. Just a real shame that the portion sizes (mostly in regards to chips/fries) let the food side of the pub down. £2.99 for a portion of chips which accounted to about 8 chips in total. Small tweaks to the food would make this pub a regular for us.

Nice food with a great variety to choose from with regular daily deals. Great selection of alcoholic drinks as well as various soft drinks. Great seating area out back with large TV and also an enclosed back garden for families . Dan , Lewis ,Tamsin and Anna are doing a excellent job

Every time we come to the anchor we feel so comfortable and safe with Covid guidelines! All the staff are friendly and make us feel so welcome, laura always remembers our favourite drinks and has them ready very quickly! The food always tastes great, couldn’t ask for more from a better pub!

Sunday was a good day for football fans. It was extra good for myself as I could enjoy it in a warm and welcoming pub/restaurant. There was a waitress called Charlie and she was always on hand if we needed anything. Even thought she was clearly working hard being a waitress. She still made time to bring our drinks over when they were ordered. I’ll be back for more beer and football after the break.

Popped in for lunch over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The pub has a nice atmosphere and the staff were helpful. The food was good and our server Charlotte did an excellent job of making sure that we had everything we needed.

Had a great family meal. Service was quick with very helpful staff member Harry. Informed us of the do’s and dont’s for COVID-19 restrictions. Drinks came to our table quickly. Food was big, tasty and great value. Quadzilla burger is great. Recommend for families, as service was great, and food is very reasonable.

Really worried by lack of Covid awareness. Some staff wearing masks over mouths, not noses. People going outside for a cigarette or just to the toilets with no masks on at all - uncontested by any staff. Not following safety rules at all. Have visited many tins over the years but will be giving it a miss now.

I visited the anchor last Saturday with my granddaughter for lunch. It was my first time out in a public place since the start of covid 19 restrictions. The staff had everything in place to meet the government guidelines and they provided us with a full service without interruption. Happily the customers too complied with the guidelines and we felt safe. We were served our food and drink with speed and our meals were delicious. Overall we had a five star experience and are looking forward to our next visit in the very near future.

Fantastic pub and really great atmosphere for game days. Excellent prices and many discounts available on food and drinks all week! Bar staff all on point to get you served!👍

We come to this establish ment for a meal to start our holiday booked at table for 19.30 arrived seated ordered at the bar meal due at around 20.10. Hubby's meal arrive 20.23 they for got my meal he had no grilled tomato on mine turned up at 20.46. No baked beans not impressed if we wanted to eat separately we would not have gone as a couple will not come here again also no checks to see if everything was ok poor service

Came to The Anchor today for a couple of drinks and was served by a lady called Chrissie and she went above and beyond. Fantastic service by Chrissie and she managed to find us a table even though it was busy. Will definitely be coming back

Myself and my husband always come here at least a couple times a month and ive got to say how impressed i am with all the measures thats been put in place (ie covid) WE were welcomed by a young lady by the name of Danielle who I think is an assistant manager, we were very pleased with the great service. we ordered from the app and Danielle brought our drinks quiet quickly,from the minute we walked in to the time we left she was smiling all the time. well done Danielle and what a lovely team of staff.

Currently at the Greene King. Staff were very attentive and polite. We were asked multiple times if our food was ok. Staff all respecting social distancing. Tables are cleaned almost immediately and marked as clean Staff also accommodated the fact we did not follow the one way system as due to mobility we had to park in the disabled bay which led us to come in the wrong door. Called in on off chance of a table after bad experience next door. Staff were very helpful and pleasant throughout. Must admit they are not my favourite places but the food was very nice and hot. And a very good price. Only let down never asked if we had done the track and trace. But there again not many places do.Overall very good and I'll use it more often

We went for a visit to the anchor during the government eat out to help out scheme, and it’s definitely bringing people out! The restaurant was so busy and there was a queue at the door, despite this the staff still went out of there way to ensure that all social distancing guidelines were followed, we couldn’t have felt any safer during our entire visit. The food came out in good time and was all tasty and hot, I had the chicken tikka big plate special, I haven’t ever seen so much food on one plate! There was nothing more I could have wanted! I really enjoyed trying strongbow rose on draught Aswell, it’s a nice addition to the pub having this! My partner particularly liked the choice in Ales there was. Laura served us our meals and nothing was too much trouble for her, every time we asked for something she made sure we got it straight away and always kept a smile on her face. Somehow we found room for dessert and another young girl brought us these, she too was so friendly and couldn’t have gone more out of her way if she tried and I’m sure she was smiling under her mask! It is experiences like these that make me wish we could eat out all the time, and if we could it would be here we came too! By far my favourite restaurant in Bedford, such a variety of food and drinks for whoever we come here with, and to make it even better the staff are friendly and attentive every single time! I recommend this place to ALL my friends and family!

Excellent service from the staff especially Jaime-Leigh as nothing was too much trouble for her. The place is always busy and the staff are always on the go but they do themselves credit with their great attitude and friendly manner despite the workload they have to endure.

went on saturday night 2 weeks ago and were able to sit in the garden to eat nice evening food was as I rembered it before lockdown when we were regular visitors. Went back this saturday 22 and had to sit inside due to the weather very apprehensive but need not have worried all covid19 precautions in place so happyto see this knowing that we can go back to being regular visitors as always food excellent

The wife and I went out for a meal yesterday and it wasn’t as safe as we have found other places we have visited ,we was met at the door by a man who had no protection at all on , was shown to a table , we was given our menus , we tried the app to order but it wasn’t working as it should , so we had to go to the bar to order , there were staff members behind the bar none of whom was wearing any masks or visors or gloves , after that we waited for our meal , it was brought to the table by a person with no gloves on but had a face shield on but most times she removed it , our drinks was brought over by a member of staff with no mask or gloves on to , we didn’t feel completely safe like we have at other places , the need to revise there safety and put these measures in place at once ,

We come to the hungry horse often - this was the first time since the eat out to help out scheme. We visited on the 17th August, a Tuesday, and had booked in advance.As soon as we were seated, DANIELLE, A wonderful young woman, talked us through everything - from ordering to the one way system. Although she was clearly rushed off of her feet, she took the time to reassure my disabled parents with information such as visiting the toilet and getting out of the premises (they were not physically able to walk the long way round).Our food came - not as fast as usual, but everything was hot and delicious as always. The bill was so cheap, we actually felt a bit guilty!Another member of staff I'd like to compliment is the young man working withDanielle - he was very attentive, always smiling (despite running from pillar to post), and he did his best to seat whoever he could, despite them not having bookings. What a great little pub! Had a lovely visit and was greeted by the manager Katie who informed us the app was the best way to go and it really was! We have visited a few restaurants since lockdown was eased and this one is by far the best! All safety measures in place and food quality was top standard! The manager Katie seated us and made us feel at ease and welcome throughout our visit. Amazing pub thanks again!!

So this lovely lovely stunning girl came up to us and gave us 2 jugs of water with ice ,she also gave us mayo which was lovely the way she wore her visor so proud was emotional for me to see but because of her service it made me feel ok

Upon entry I was pleased with the face coverings and one way system in place alongside hand sanitiser. We were served drinks at the bar and directed to a table "round there". We had our order taken by the waitress, whose name she did not disclose. By the time the order was placed my glass had been empty for about 5 minutes with no offer of a refill. The other nameless waitress proceeded to shout over our table enquiring to her colleague whether we had ordered. She could have simply asked. The food came out in a timely fashion and looked good to start with. However, i did not expect a burger to simply be: burger, cheese and bun. No salad, no sauce, no innovation. Would have stopped at the drive thru on the way home if I had known. We ate the food served on this occasion due to having a long drive back home, otherwise it would have been sent back. The waitress became defensive when I raised this with her, and simply answered "no" to my further queries. I enquired about test and trace, being a walk in. But she argued that she was going to wait until after we had finished for us to fill out the details. I can appreciate these are unprecedented times, but it is not an excuse to let standards slip and for staff to be rude and argumentative. A real shame, as looking from the decor and menu we were really looking forward to it.

Went for bogof burger night, good value food but not everything that was listed in the description for the plate I ordered actually came. On arrival, had to wait a while near the door before we were approached by a staff member who did not explain that you had to order through the app or go up to the bar!

Took advantage of The Anchors take away service. Ordered online, picked a time slot that suited, arrived for pick up where there was a portion of the bar cordoned off for take away collection. Food was brought out within a couple of minutes and was very nice. Great addition to the restaurant, hopefully will keep their take away option when all this has blown over.

Me and my boyfriend visited here last week. The politeness of the staff was 10/10. Food was delicious and wasn’t waiting very long. Our waitress Laura was especially the highlight of our experience. She was very polite and recommended by mine and partners meal. Very good service on the whole. Well Done!

We sat outside in the garden and were served by Katie . She was so helpful going through ordering on the app with us as it was the first time we had used it . The food was nice and hot when it arrived . The tables were well spaced out in the garden and the umbrellas were good . We also had our dog with us so Katie brought him a nice bowl of cold water out too . We felt at ease with all the new restrictions.

After a disaster at another restaurant we called the anchor for a table and the lady was very pleasant and helpful in assisting us with a table reservation. We arrived and were sat in a booth which was lovely and hidden way for a personal touch. We ordered at the bar and food was served in good time and priced very well. The waitress (kara) checked on us a few times and was very cheerful and made us feel welcomed. During the time we were eating the restaurant was constantly being cleaned which, in the world situation at the moment, made us feel comfortable to eat there. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others, whether couples or families.

Covid friendly, clear what way to walk etc. Got served by Jake who was great and able to put my Greene king discount code on well and promptly. We both had crispy chicken with curry sauce and shared some chicken tenders- fab-u-lous! Seeing as this is my local I've not had a meal from here as good as this one before, they had outdone themselves this time! The disposable menus were a good way of making it feel as 'normal' as possible during a pandemic as well as the lovely staff.
