The Amersham Arms in Lewisham

Bouncer tried to fight my boyfriend (18) and verbally abused me (also 18). He threatened to hit my boyfriend if he got out of our cab because we were wearing tracksuit bottom trousers. They used their job and “power” to let a dog into the pub but excused their threats to a young adult 3x as young as them.

Excellent bar very spacious with live music and tasty drinks! Not too busy, all round great atmosphere

El lugar es extremadamente sucio, el servicio lleva demasiado tiempo para bebidas simples, y el personal aquí es muy grosero. El hombre barbudo y regordete en particular, que fue extremadamente agresivo con mi colega y le robó una botella, a pesar de que no estaba al tanto de ninguna política que indicara que no podía llevarla al lugar. Tomarán su dinero y le servirán bebidas aguadas, no se moleste.

Vine a este pub con mi pareja, ya que nos estábamos quedando en un hotel cercano y queríamos una cena vegana en el día de San Valentín (los encontré a través de la aplicación Happy Cow). La comida era deliciosa y el ambiente muy agradable. Teníamos un pastel de carne seitan Guinness y una hamburguesa seitan de barbacoa - ¡ME ENCANTARON! El personal también fue amable.

Vine aquí un viernes por la noche para ver bandas en vivo y música en vivo. El pub estaba bien, con una decoración muy moderna, la selección de bebidas estaba bien, los precios eran razonables. Las bandas y la música estaban bastante bien, pasamos una buena noche.

Toilets are disgusting, security are heavy handed bigots, place is run badly by a horrible manager with an attitude problem.

My friend bought me a jägerbomb and I stopped drinking half way through it, I was very appalled and disgusted to find black dirt floating around in it... I'd assume it was ash from a cigarette (hopefully nothing toxic or poisonous). It did make me feel nauseous, if you go here only order drinks served in their original bottle. Luckily he music was decent.

Decent choice of beer and not to pricey, great atmosphere! Every time i've been there has been a variety of music till late. Fast and friendly staff. :D

Came down from north london to see a mates band play, great venue, helpful staff with equipment post gig ect. Good vibes, cool smoking area, cheap pints.. cheers!

The door staff were unnecessarily rude all evening the same bouncer ID'd me twice which was ridiculous. At the end when waiting for a taxi home on the public pavement outside they forced us to cross over a busy road and wait opposite and then cross back over when the taxis arrived... totally ridiculous!

What can you say about the Amersham Arms, except AWESOME. It’s such a great bar, with a great atmosphere, great music and decent choice of drinks. The bar staff are very attentive and polite and also have a sense of humour. The manager is top class, he is at the front of house and very welcoming, very personal guy. The door staff are first class, really friendly funny guys who you can actually talk to rather than being mute statues looking menacing like other venues have. The club nights the Amersham puts on are really fun and always have a good party atmosphere. This is a bar that offers a good choice of environment as well, whether its mingling on the awesome garden with several balconies/decking areas to see the city lights, or the front bar where it can get busy but that just adds to the atmosphere in my opinion or if you want to have it large, head out to the back club part of the bar to dance the night away. This is my favourite bar in south east London and it has been for many years and, just like a fine wine, just keeps getting better. Well done Amersham, keep it going.

We attended The Musicians Against Homelessness gig in aid of the Crisis charity. The venue, staff & selection of drinks were superb! With easy transport links I can't recommend the Amersham Arms highly enough 🎶🍻🎸

Many years ago, and several months under-age, I arrived at the Amersham Arms, separated from my party of friends, and trying to get back to Ramsgate. I phoned my parents from their public phone, and saw that there was a sign saying live music tonight. I asked who the band was, and I was told that they were 'Only a bunch of local lads - they are called Dire Straits'. I spent the evening in the pub, listening to what was to become one of the greatst bands Britain has ever produced, and got to speak with them during the break, and at the end, before catching the train home. Now, nearly forty years later, I still pop into the Amersham Arms. Great beer, and a fantastic atmosphere. It has changed since that night in 1977, but not that much. It still hosts live music, plus a number of other things. Well worth a visit.

I went there for drinks once. Had a good time, but be aware of shady patrons. Drinks were neither cheap nor expensive. However some of the staff did have an attitude.

This place is an absolute dive. Full to the brim with filthy older men looking to hook up with student girls from the adjacent university, I can't recommend this place to anyone, especially considering the much better options in the immediate area :)

Los brazos de amersham en Nueva Cruz ha el lugar perfecto para ser un lugar agradable, buena música, noches de comedia, increíble e incluso el personal es encantador! tenían porteros Sin embargo, el gerente era extremadamente grosero y gruñón, desagradable, y para ser honestos, tenía una terrible sensación de vestimenta. Él completamente decepcionante el resto del pub. No volveré allí.

Very rude bouncers ! Travelled from Newcastle to see mates band . Went outside for to check train times back into city and was refused back in to pub for no reason . Trying to explain that my mates were in there and I had been in for 2 hours I just got hassle and abuse back!

Really chilled atmosphere, and helpful staff. Went to the art exhibition upstairs which was good. Pub was clean, spacious, and authentic. Completely unpretentious, the real deal, good location for live music.

I came here reluctantly having had poor experiences in the past. Bar staff were good, door staff were incredibly rude and aggressive.At around 1am my friend wanted to go out for a cigarette whilst I wanted to get some fresh air as I was dehydrated, and was told that the smoking area was closed. We were then told that if we wanted to go outside that we wouldn't be let back inside the building. This is absolutely disgraceful, a venue of this magnitude that caters for such a substantial amount of people should have a proper system that allows people to go outside and come back in. Upon challenging the door staff that I wanted to go outside for some fresh air we were told in an incredibly rude fashion that we would be banned if we continued to cause a fuss. I was made to feel completely unwelcome by the door staff. I would thoroughly recommend anyone that is a smoker or needs fresh air not to come here on a busy night as the door staff will be unsympathetic to your requirements and very rude and aggressive if you challenge them. Me and my friends were made to feel very unwelcome by the staff and would strongly suggest that people contemplating coming to this venue to think again!!!

We had tickets for a Finlay Quay gig and i should have known better really with his track record of not showing up. (Because he failed to show again)The place is a dive & the drinks (cans of Red Stripe) are well overpriced and served from dustbins. Toilets stink, and the entire place looks like a 1960s pub complete with grime and dirt. There was a live band on at the start called The Chris Sagan Project? anyway, they are the reason for giving 2 stars instead of zero.

Really spare decor, like a gritty pub from before the days of the breweries taking everything over and ruining it all. Rough and ready, but civilised at the same time. Great staff, very helpful. Decided to eat, and took the barman's advice on what to have, he was a vegetarian so was only really that option left for him to recommend. Great meaty mushroom burger, sweet potato chips, substantial and tasty. Wine not bad either. Not expensive at all at £6. or so. If you want something less glitzy or less faux, you won't go wrong. I will be going back. PS They also do stuff like live music, poetry evenings I believe, Goldsmiths is round the corner so it also caters for a more creative crowd, and miracle of miracles doesn't seem to be too far up it's own backside about it...

I attended this venue as my partner was playing a gig there...Where shall I start!Whilst waiting outside to get in I witnessed one of the door staff push a girl to the ground and laugh about it afterwards. They also told people if you stand in the wrong spot to smoke you are not allowed back in again. They were aggressive, rude and generally all seemed to have a massive chip on their shoulders.The entrance section between the pub and the music venue section was at best a fire risk!The toilets were absolutely disgusting, they were flooded from the beginning of the evening with I have no idea what! There wasn't any toilet paper all night long but they actually employed someone in the toilets to hand out lollipops and hand towels?? Makes no sense!I would not recommend this place to anyone! If someone from the venue actually reads this I would seriously keep an eye on your door staff as in all the places I have visited I have never come across people so heavy handed... authority gone mad!

This is like real deal - place where you wanna come again and you feel, someone has put heardt in this place. I can not think about London without this place. True London or staying true for life. And tammy food.

stay away as full of students, overpriced drinks and to packed, they must have some sort of limit on numbers

Went to watch the England v Uruguay match here with friends and was very impressed by the place. Great feel to it and the Guinness flowed a plenty. Staff real helpful and my mates burger that he ordered looked good and was gone quickly too. We were going to stay and go to the Karma Club featuring Dappa from Rinse FM and James Massiah, Bade Records DJs and more but had to move to another part of London Town. Next time I will go because all proceeds go to the homeless film festival respect where respect is due.

Um pub que tem um basement onde todos os fins de semana acontecem shows diferentes. A musica ambiente do local é sempre boa e tem opções de comidas gostosas para quando a larica bate. Mas como todo pub, comida para de ser servida cedo.

Every time I've been in the Amersham Arms I've left with a smile on my face. This is one of the few places that has the balance right between staying true to its south east London routes (alternative entertainment, diverse crowd from all backgrounds and just the right amount of sass) and taking on the strengths of a Hoxton bar (door men, cleaners, attentive staff, bit of swag). And the food's lush too. Spot on.

The Amersham is one of those gem of a places you stumble across and end up spending your whole weekend in. Great vibe. Zero pretentiousness. Disco Freaks djs are fun. Dr Skip and the Beatman. One thing you need to remember is the doorman is very funny if you've never been before, as a friend of mine who is in his 40's was ID'd. We found it hilarious and I think he was slightly made up, but you won't be able to get in without it.Great place
