The American Diner in Pembrokeshire

Worst fish n chips ive ever bought. Waited nearly 15 mins. Thought that meant they was cooking it fresh. When i opened it , the batter was aweful, the fish grey and the chips were frozen chips. Even though id spent around £20, they went straight in the bin over the road. My only regret was not returning them and demanding a refund. Utterly disgusting. Beware

We were really looking forward to seaside fish and chips, we ordered cod bites and large chips (reasonable price) greeted by welcoming and friendly young host. Food was cooked to order, disappointingly frozen chips and poorly battered cod bites, unless this is your food preference avoid and find authentic chip shop. Is it really too much to ask for a bag of chips and battered fish? Without having it made from frozen ingredients? Come on guys you’re located in a seaside town with a great catchy name for your business - the food was dreadful…. Threw it in the bin and went elsewhere….

Even though the fish was cooked to order, th e batter was obviously fried in oil that was not fresh which reflected on the overall taste. The underside of the fish was completely soggy and under cooked to the point where it was inedible. In addition, I would question whether it was actually cod even thought that is what I ordered, as it was so flat and flaccid. The oil was definitely not fresh and this reflected in the taste of the fish. Looking back, this boasts as being an American diner but is definitely not a fish and chip shop. I will not come back here again.

We visited here as most places were closed when visited Tenby beach. We ordered 4 meals as a family. We waited around 20 minutes for our food although its fast food??! We asked for salt and vinigar and couldn't taste it at all. One of our meals were missing and one member of staff had said we hadn't ordered it then another member of staff apologied and made it up. Staff wernt the most helpful. when you spend £27 you'd expect it to be for 4 meals. The chips are clearly frozen chips and not chip shop chips you'd expect. The fish wasn't that nice but the seagulls got a good meal. Looks alot better then it tastes.

Possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had. There were heaps of chips but they were so dry and hard; the fish were overcooked and covered in thick, undercooked batter; the mushy peas tasted like tinned peas mashed up together; however, the curry sauce was good. Not cheap either, almost £20 for mostly inedible food. Was expecting better from a seaside chippy.

My friend bought us fish and chips we ate inside fish left batter was in cooked when we took back uncooked batter she said was fine suppose to best part of fish in this case it was not she was very rude to us and told her nicely can we talk somewhere not in front of other customers she called us names and she didn’t even have mask on and she suppose to have she swore at us my friend went wild at her threw fish and chips at counter I worked in fish and chips shop and batter was not cooked at all but thinking of it fish was cold in some places too looked like she cooked frozen fish put batter over it that’s why batter was not cooked never ever been spoken like this ever it’s shocking suppose to be a manger lol I worked in customer care in a restaurant I will say she needs to be question about her behaviour to customers

been on a few occasions - always amazing. Very friendly staff and super scrummy classic american food. Highly reccomend all of it! Very generous portions. Make sure you try the american diner the next time you are in Tenby!!

So excited to try a doner box tonight after seeing the adverts on fb and wanting one for ages. Disappointing!!! Doner meat was of the frozen from iceland variety ( and you always know by the perfect uniform shapes and texture) and the chicken was very greasy to the point it was dripping out of the box and bag. On a plus the salad was nice and the fries were crispy but if I want a doner in future I’ll go to a kebab shop which would would have been cheaper also. ☹️

Oh My Cod fish and chip restaurant is also The American Diner. It was on the street of our AirB&B whilst we were in Tenby. Every time we passed this establishment, whether afternoon or evening, there was a queue outside. Family - run to a very high standard, following all protocols, it is just a take away at the moment but delivers orders up to 8.00pm. We had a £3 bag of chips the first night which were fantastic but they defeated us so on the second night, we were a bit more savvy, and went for large cod and small chips each with sides of mushy peas and mayo. Well, we had to eat them from the containers as we couldn't find a dinner plate big enough to accommodate the cod, and you guessed it, we were defeated again. A brilliant place to get a real taste of Tenby....thoroughly recommend,,,you bet. Enjoy.

Fish and chips from Oh My Cod was amazing!! Soo tasty and the fish was the size of a whale lol! Would highly recommend. 3 large cod and chips for £20, pre ordered and collected piping hot.

We had take away cod, chips and mushy peas from Oh My Cod (I believe it's the same place as the diner). Really good fish and chips. Were cooked fresh to order, didn't feel greasy and stayed hot for ages. It's just a shame that some of the customers forgot about social distancing and didn't stand slightly away whilst waiting for their food.

I had the detroit burger and my partner had the LA sliders. Both were excellent. Cooked fresh and absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Heard off some friends of ours today that this was open nearby and delivered, they said that the food was lovely. We contacted them to ask for a menu and they were very helpful, sent it via WhatsApp for us. Ordered and received excellent customer service and then the food arrived! Wow! It was plentiful, hot, fresh, homemade and delicious! To top it off, the person I spoke to on the phone followed up with a message to ask if everything was ok! I teach hospitality and customer service and this was a wonderful experience from start to finish. We will definitely be return customers.

Stopped in for lunch recently as reviews looked good. We had takeaway (cant find 'oh my cod' to review), but the same place. Fish was cooked well, could have been a little crispier but it was freshly cooked so hadn't sat under the lights. The chips were fantastic, best chips we have had in a long time. Unfortunately we were let down by the 2 month out of date diet coke, but don't let this stop you trying the place. It is good, we would recommend a shelf/fridge check on produce.

Tried there mixed regular kebabs , spot on, delivered to our door on Friday 3rd Jan , plenty of meat just the right amount of salad, not OTT with onions, sauce in a separate tub, chips loads of ,seasoned and hot , Arches pack your bags . Will we be back? Most deffo, Sue and Dale

This was our 2nd visit and unfortunately we were disappointed with some of our food. Burger bun was very thick and dry bread (not toasted) and no sauce/butter on it. The garlic bread was so hard and tough from middle to bottom couldn't eat it and fish was in very soft soggy batter. It was very busy when we visited both sit in and counter so maybe why as our 1st visit was lot better however we didn't order the same food. Staff are lovely and it's a pleasure to come here we will visit again but probably wouldn't order the same food as this visit, it did at the time put us off.

We stumbled across this chippy (1st one we could park by!). What a find, Very friendly staff. Delicious crispy chips, great batter on the cod. Great serving sizes - large chips fed hungry husband, me and 2 kids (they even added a scoopful when I checked how big the size was just in case we needed to order more! - THANK YOU X). Went back again a couple of days later to try the waffles. They were MASSIVE, perhaps even a bit too big. Everyone loved them. Thank you very much to all the staff

Rissole was awful and did not taste of anything. Chips were not really like usual chippy chips. The curry sauce was decent though and we were grateful that we ordered it.

Its hard to find somewhere that does a good sized milkshake. For £3.50 you get it served in the big steel cups they mix it in. they have a great selection inc, oreo, bubblegum...Well worth the price.The Portions are massive and the burgers huge, if your on a diet avoid. The service was great too, friendly and nothing is too much trouble, highly recommend

Really nice and friendly staff, great value good quality food, will definitely be back for the dirty burger. Made us feel really welcome even though we are was quite a unruly group of of kids.

Decorated so well inside and the friendliest staff, but the most amazing thing is the food. Such generous portions and always cooked nicely with lots of choices on the menu! The chip shop just to the side, also owned by the diner staff ‘Oh My Cod’ is exactly the same. Generous portions and lovely food! 10/10 for both businesses

We have eaten at The American Diner on a number of occasions since 2017 as a couple, with our 4 children and in a family party of 14...the food along with the welcome and service have never let us down. We are always greeted so warmly by Tiffany, Ash and the amazing team. There is always an buzzing atmosphere in the diner which is superbly decorated and kitted out in true American style. The food!!! Where do I start? There is such vast choice of starters, mains and desserts that you'd need to visit regularly to work your way through it and they are very happy for you to switch some of the burger fillings and garnishes. The burgers are our favourite as the beefburgers are home made by Tiffany using top quality ingredients. The brioche buns complement the meat so well and the choice of fillings is immense. My particular favourite filling is blue cheese, jalapenos and chilli mayo served with home made coleslaw, a side of onion rings and sweet potato fries. Moving on to dessert (if you have any space after the generous main course portions) then again...plenty of choice to tempt anyone with or without a sweet tooth. New york cheese cake, brownies, pancakes and my personal favourite...waffles served with strawberries, pecans and drizzled with maple syrup. There is a huge choice of toppings for your American pancakes and waffles including my kids favourite...NUTELLA!!! Our last visit was 9th August 2019 when we were celebrating my husband's birthday. Desserts came out with a sparkler and Happy Birthday was played for him and the staff and customers joined in a singalong which was so lovely. I wish we lived closer as this is a place and a type of food that I would never tire of. Thanks Tiff, Ash and your gorgeous team for always making us feel like we're part of the family. Look forward to our next visit.

We went here for chippy tea on our first night in Tenby. There was 6 of us and we all loved the chips but 2 in the group said the batter on their fish was soggy.

One of the worst fish and chips I’ve had. Poor batter, greasy chips, slow service. Really can’t recommend it.

Greasy, flaccid chips and soggy battered cod. Removed all the batter and only able to eat the plain fish as the food was so greasy. Will not be back.

We had fish cake and chips here last night. The whole place is spotlessly clean. It has a true American diner feel to it. They serve a mixture of fish and chips etc and American style food. The portions are huge!!! We had to leave some of ours.

We stumbled across this place whilst exploring the sights of Tenby town and it’s like finding a gem amongst stones! With 3 very hungry little ones we were looking to sit in somewhere to eat. We came across what looked like a small fish and chip shop and then further realised it was also an American diner so there was seating available.

Lovely fish and chips, huge portions, bang goes my weight watchers for now, lol. Will definatly be back.

Visited with family, split into two sections a takeaway chippy and an American diner where you can sit down but also still order food from the chippy. All 4 had fish and chips and it was amazing, good quality. Lovely decorated place with really friendly staff. Would return!

I have visited this establishment multiple times since it opened, I'm pleased to say that I've enjoyed it everytime! This most recent occasion was for my sister's birthday (she specifically requested the Diner) The staff are exceptional, we've always been treated excellently, the orders have never been incorrect (even when we've been awkward) & they're so friendly! I've brought many guests here on their trips to Pembrokeshire and haven't once received a bad word about the place. The food itself is soooo good, I love the Texas burger, either chicken or beef whichever you fancy and my partner as a veggie loves the diverse burger options available to him (he's also an absolute milkshake fiend and fills up on a thick shake before he even starts eating!) The portions are generous to put it mildly, massive really. Oh and the waffles are too good to pass up if you have a sweet tooth! Loved both the fish and chips here as well as the American Diner side. Have visited many times and although I love a hearty meal I haven’t always been able to finish them as portion sizes are magnificent. All cooked to order and my favourite is the Boston Burger. Freshly made milkshakes are sublime. Each time I want to go for a waffle but have been too full after the main course - next time!! Staff always friendly, happy and helpful both sides. Look forward to my next visit

My children absolutely love this little Gem! Lots to pick from for adults and children. The food is is simply gorgeous especially the cod 😋 lovely and clean with excellent service!

Spotted this on TripAdvisor so thought we'd give it a try. Well it was amazing! Staff were very polite and attended to our needs. There were four of us, two adults and two children and it was the best food we've had in Tenby. The menu is great for choice and plenty for children. They even do kids sized milkshakes. Be warned though they give you plenty of chips! It's very reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended, especially for families.

Fabulous fish and chips at a reasonable price. The fish is fresh, the batter is crunchy and the chips just right. Everything was piping hot. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly.

I've been coming to Tenby most weekends for 16 years and only last year I tried this chip shop, and by far its the best one down west Wales. The chips are so crunchy and delicious! Everything so fresh, powdered baps are nice, every meal we have had from here has been gorgeous!

Amazing food great value for money and lovely staff would highly recommend definitely will be returning xx

What a place I give this place 5 stars all day long! It's amazing u literally feel like your in America.the staff are so friendly and welcoming always so happy to serve u.if your visiting tenby go in and have food you won't be disappointed the pancakes with bacon and maple are not to be missed.

So good we visited twice in a week whilst on our recent holiday. Excellent food with a great menu to choose from. The food was fantastic and the portions were very generous. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The whole family loved it and we will definitely be returning next year. 10/10.

My wife and I attended for Afternoon Tea whilst away on a short break. We were delighted to see everything come out once so we were not sat bored waiting! it came out as Starters, Main, Desert on each Tier. All of the food was above expectation and the staff were so friendly and knowledgably about the area, they even gave us tips on where to head to next!. A great prize considering its more than just the food you pay for!

Absolutely brilliant afternoon tea to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday. A total taste sensation and sooooo filling!

Booked for myself and my husband as a rare day off treat and we weren't disappointed. Service was polite and friendly, food was plentiful and very tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed the diner experience. Would recommend to everyone as something different to do in Pembrokeshire. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Came here for deserts with a family of four.Kids had waffles and said they were unbelievable. I had the homemade New York cheese cake (best Ive ever had) Portion was huge. Thick shakes live up to their name

My favourite place in Tenby! Quirky interiors and excellent menu choice. Freshly cooked, large portion size, and delicious tasting! There is something for everyone here and I highly recommend. Staff are friendly and welcoming and it is just a lovely all round experience.

I love this place, huge portions, great value. Amazing thick shakes. Love the American theme. You can see how much effort they have put into this place, service is amazing. Well worth every penny

Me and my girlfriend had a beautiful platter here tonight with a full rack of ribs, chicken wings, onion rings and chips. It was soo good and the cheesecake we had after was from another planet. An absolute must if you ever visit Tenby. It’s took us a while to try this out but it won’t take as long to go back.

We recently used two of the services from The American Diner, one was Oh My Cod, and yes, it was delicious, we had it delivered for a family meal, 11 of us and the portions were huge and really really tasty. We also had the ice cream bike delivered for a family party, and again, excellent service and great value for money. Both of these put smiles on everybodies faces.

We went here on a recommendation from the locals. I must say the food was lovely and plenty full, I wasn’t fussed on the thick shake it was more like a milkshake as watery. The food was piping hot and accommodated a family of fussy eaters. This is quite a small place so worth contacting to book a table during busy holidays we were lucky as we went quite late so we were the only ones eating. The staff were friendly and helpful and the American decor was a nice touch. They have a chip shop attached to the diner and from what we could see does really lovely food so will be trying this next time we are in Tenby .

After driving around numerous Fish & Chip shops only to find that their chips aren't vegetarian friendly, I finally struck gold with 'The American Diner / Oh My Cod'.

Me and my toddler popped in here whilst waiting for our dog to be groomed next door, and the service was amazing. Nothing was too much. A massive menu, with lots of variety - and great value. Food cooked fresh, and tasted amazing!

Had a late lunch here, food was hot and tasty, i visited to tr a roots beer but only coke in stock, shame

The fish n chip market is fairly well catered for in Tenby and this isn’t obviously a fish n chip shop. It does, however, very good fish n chips...with a smile!

This place doubles up as a chippy & it’s the best in Tenby by some distance. It seems to be run by a family & they’re all a pleasure to speak with - hard working & polite. The food is all freshly cooked to order, so you have to wait slightly longer but it is worth it. Wonderful chips, lovely fish, big portions.

Have eaten in at the diner n it was spot on , classic burger n fries n I had Caesar salad loads of chicken salad very fresh . Tried the delivery service tonight burger,salad n chippy chips plus classic burger n chips just under £15 delivered within 30 mins , spot on . Highly recommend .

What a gem of a find! Lovely people lovely food. Very generous portions. The only slight down side was people waiting I think for take away stuff. You did feel like you were sitting in someone front room and imposing on their conversation. Apart from that all good! Enjoy people!

This is a small American diner style restaurant behind a fish and chip shop, but don’t let that put you off. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was tasty and excellent value. The milkshakes were delicious and highly recommended

Brilliant meal! There were 6 adults and 4 children and we were accommodated well. Majority had the Detroit burger, was amazing and great portion sizes! Kids meal was equally as good. So glad we gave it a try. Was slightly put off by the outside as it does look more of a chip shop than diner but having looked at the reviews we were happy to give it a go and would definatly go back!

My husband and i came by this little fish and chip shop as we were passing by and we decided to try some fish chips and mushy peas. We ate inside the diner in the back room. It is made to feel like an American diner inside with the decor and the music. Our food arrived and it was delicious. Lovely fluffy chips and crispy battered cod with some really nice mushy peas. It was honestly the nicest fish and chips we have ever had. Highly recommend this little place to everyone. Try it yourself!
