My wife's and my first visit to The Ambrette, and our first visit to any restaurant since the start of the pandemic. Tremendous food, and first-class service by friendly, amusing and helpful staff. I think they were as pleased to be open as we were to eat at a restaurant again! We'll be back very soon.

First time we’d visited this restaurant having been recommended to us several times, so pleased we finally went. Attentive, friendly service & food was amazing. We’ll definitely be visiting here again & heartedly recommend to others.

We had a takeaway using the meal deal for 2. It was such great value and amazing flavours. One veggie and one meat eater. Plenty of food for leftovers the next day too. Will definitely order again!

We've visited the Ambrette for years both in Canterbury, Rye and Margate. Amidst the chaos of the pandemic The Ambrette's phenomenal service and exemplary food still goes unsurpassed. It's credit to their staff that they're doing so great. The latest meal deal is phenomenal too. We'll definitely be ordering again.

In tricky Covid times The Ambrette is a wonderful Take Away treat. At £29:95 for 2 Starters, 2 Main Courses, Sides & a Bottle of Wine, it is incredible value for money!The food was top quality & so delicious. I had Crispy Seafood followed by Goat Curry, both superb. My wife`s food was equally tasty & i was lucky enough to have left over Dosai for breakfast. A wonderful experience!

We wanted something special to celebrate a special birthday while the post lockdown options are still limited. We settled on a takeaway Afternoon Tea from Ambrette at Canterbury and we were not mistaken. It was simply superb. Very interesting sandwiches unusual savouries and truly delicious cakes. We will certainly visit the restaurant when normal life resumes.

Wow... A few years ago I was lucky enough to stay at one of the best hotels in Mumbai where the food was amazing. I have been searching for a similar experience here in the UK... and Ambrette is it. Incredibly authentic. Thank you.

Ordered home delivery 24 hours in advance. Emailed by restaurant the day before it would be delayed 30 min. That’s okay no problem but eventually arrived 1 hour later than advised delayed time with food missing. No response to queries. DISAPPOINTED by below par service.

Simply fabulous and indulgent! Ambrette is such a gem of a restaurant that we treat ourselves on special occasions. Even during lockdown the experience of home delivery was exquisite. We had the tasting menu and everything was packaged really nicely labelled well and arrived at a good temperature. I haven’t had the in-restaurant experience yet but I am excited to try it as soon as lockdown subsides!

I was lucky enough to win a prize at Christmas a gift voucher from Facebook. Today I picked up the food and drink and it was amazing , I dropped my mums round to Her and we had a zoom afternoon tea . The sandwiches were amazing and samosas, cakes were divine . It’s a difficult time for restaurants and this company was so generous to me , it was so much appreciated. Thank you ambrette .

My husband treated me to a takeaway from The Ambrette for my birthday and we weren't disappointed!Everything was so incredibly delicious! We had the chicken thigh for starters and it was just as tasty and tender as it was when we last dined in the restaurant. My husband had the pork belly and I had the prawns for mains and everything was so flavourful and excellently presented.The portion sizes were huge plus we got mango lassi, side salads and poppadoms for free so definitely value for money!The Ambrette is definitely one of the best tasting and highest quality takeaways in Canterbury! We'll be ordering from there again soon.

Placed a takeaway order to collect via Just Eat. Arrived at restaurant only to discover I had ordered for the wrong location. Rebecca was amazing and said that they could fulfill our order which would take approximately 25 minutes to prepared. She asked where we lived. I explained that on Just Eat, their restaurant apparently didn't deliver to our location. She said that they definitely could so that we didn't have to wait. Our order arrived in the alloted time and was absolutely amazing. Totally impressed with the service and the quality of the food. Can't wait to order it again.

Ordered earlier in the day for the evening pick up. Staff were helpful and food was ready when I turned up. Food was delicious and wonderfully cooked. Quality is something else. Glad to see them having satellite operations especially in these new times.Maybe slightly dearer than usual takeaway but worth it for the food.

There was a knock on my door on New Years Day and there was a taxi delivering food and prosecco. I hadn't ordered anything and the driver showed me the receipt with the name of my dear friend who had ordered a surprise afternoon tea for my birthday.What a fantastic treat it was. The toasted sandwiches were unlike any I had tasted before and were very tasty as were the salmon and cream cheese. There were also savoury snacks with accompanying dips and a fantastic selection of cakes and scones with clotted cream. The mango cream was delicious. All of this and a bottle of prosecco I was truly spoilt and would love to repeat the experience. What a shame for those people who didn't receive their orders, as in my mind they certainly missed a treat.

I booked a take away 3 days before New Year's Eve for delivery between 7-7.15pm. It got to 7.30 no sign of our meal tried phoning 3 times to check on when my meal would turn up and all I got was an answer phone. So I drove into Canterbury to collect it myself. After I waited at the door for about 5 mins a young lady asked if she could help, I asked for my order she said it was down as a collection so I said why did Rebecca ask for my address if it was a collection and take £4.95 delivery charge No answer. She said your food has been waiting since 7 o'clock for you to collection. Not happy. I said my food must be cold no it's been kept in the warming area, but if it's a bit cold warm it up in the microwave. Not Happy. Got the food home and guess what the food was luke warm tell me how can you warm up a chicken burger with salad and relish in a microwave? ( Which we never ordered). Ordered chicken thighs. I had duck spring rolls the pastry was so tough I had to use a steak knife the cut through it they were so chewey. All I wanted was for a nice meal to celebrate New Year's Eve with my wife after a terrible 2020 and this just top it off. Used to love Ambrettes food for special occasions but I really don't think we will ever have a take away from there again let alone a sit in meal ( if we are ever aloud too). I bet I don't get a response to this message

I had high hopes ordering a take away from the Ambrette. The high delivery and menu prices had always put me off before but I thought I'd treat myself today. There was an interesting looking starter of dosai potatoes, then I saw it as a side or as a main. It was that or aubergine as the veggie mains so I went for the bread and potato carbs. I ordered a side of the flaky parathia and roast potatoes. It arrived and I was impressed with all the extra bits that came with it - a nice salad, pappadums, mango chutney, lasai etc. However, my main was basically curry potatoes in a pancake, and I had accidentally also ordered potatoes and pancakes as sides! The parathia was actually more like a flat croissant than a pancake though really. It was tasty but not sure I needed it! For me the dosai potato main was too bland, even with the sauce and veg it came with as sides. The roast potatoes were too hot for me and not the fusion I was expecting, more just like potato curry. I'm sure if you eat meat the menu opens up a lot more excitement for you, but for me, as a vegetarian, I will not be visiting/ordering from here again.

My family has just enjoyed the meal deal for four that was simply stunning because of the taste and the value. Two 'wonover' teenagers who now concur with their parents choice of food! You won't be disappointed!

The food is quite innovative to be fair although there is little local competition. Service is very mixed ranging from reasonably friendly to downright ignorant and what is most annoying is that management seem to be in denial about this. It is quite normal for a takeaway to be lost completely. 'The customer is always right' - try to remember this.

Bought a takeaway afternoon tea for my parents anniversary from the Dover kitchen... I was told by my parents that the food was delicious. Communication between myself and the staff was excellent and they included a happy anniversary card with the nicely wrapped afternoon tea. Perfect!

My husband and I had a fantastic lunch with bottomless Prosecco yesterday, Our waitress Rebecca was great, looking after us perfectly. Thank you and we will see you again soon

Just ordered a takeaway food was lovely unfortunately my extra wedges didn’t arrive and the chicken Tikka burger Which i requested no egg arrived with an egg Complimentary poppadoms were a nice touch

We were given a 'meal for two' voucher for christmas which was helpfully and swiftly converted to a home delivery voucher by the Ambrette staff. Ordering online was simplicity itself and the food came exactly on time. Faultless and we will order again

Had the six course taster menu - a Christmas gift but used it for my birthday. This was our first visit to The Ambrette and certainly will not be our last. The food was amazing - beautifully presented and very tasty. The service was really great too - very friendly and helpful staff. We had such a great evening and would highly recommend.

This was one of the worse meals I have had for years. It’s fake overpriced junk. You are better off with a supermarket microwave ready meal.

An excellent meal full of flavour and spices with great vegan options. The staff were welcoming, attentive and helpful. This is top of our list of when we visit again.

Whenever we have been here before it has been amazing but felt let down tonight. Service was very slow- waited nearly an hour for our starters and when the arrived they were luke warm. Seemed like they weren’t used to being so full. We had a table at 7 and we had only finished just before 10 so glad we didn’t have a later table as others around us had such slow service they were only just being given their mains just before 10pm. Main courses were yummy but dessert really let them down- both desserts we had were v bland and the chocolate platter was nowhere near as it has been previously. Such a shame after we had been waiting 7 months to be able to have our delayed reservation...

Due to Covid, a gift of a meal for two was taken tonight. Not only were the staff lovely, the food delicious and the safety procedures were excellent. Masks, sanitisers etc all in place, we felt very comfortable.

We ordered a Sunday roast take away for collection from their new Dover kitchen on a Sunday evening. Ordering was easy. A little bit of a glitch with collection as they did not make it clear it was the 'The three cups' pub to go to. And the address on Google maps showed the property next door to the pub. When entering pub we were told where to go. Food was packaged very well and the chefs who dealt with me were very friendly.We order Venison and Belly Pork roast dinners. They food was very delicious. The portion sizes were very generous. We were also given a free side salad and lassi. We would definitely use this service again and recommend it.

This is the most beautiful restaurant in Canterbury my friends came down from London and I highly recommended this place hoping they would like it as much as I did.... and luckily they did, every mouthful of food gets a yum with all the Asian infused flavours with every bite! Really lovely and something different. Milo the waiter was amazing so attentive made our experience when more special.

High quality Indian 'fusion' food in beautiful surroundings with attentive and lovely staff. This is not your typical curry house in that it is more of a gastronomic experience with a menu where I could have chosen any dish to try that you wouldn't;t find on a menu in a normal curry house. I went for the spiced pigeon breast starter and goat curry main (like less strong flavoured lamb to those who have not tried it...). Others had the seafood starter and the 3 fish main course - all loved it. This covid nightmare was managed really well by the staff and I felt safe.My only feedback is please have a bit more choice on alcohol free lager, things have moved on so much from Beck's Blue!

We ordered a take away for collection from their new Ashford kitchen on a Saturday evening. The ordering was easy and straightforward although choice of dishes is slightly more limited. Collection was seamless although it does feel a bit weird collecting your dinner from a dark industrial estate in the middle of Ashford ! We enjoyed samosas with the chicken for two which came with rice, potatoes, vegetables and salad ! The food was delicious, well packaged, hot, generous portion sizes and all very clearly labelled and the chef even included a free dessert. With the discount voucher the take away was brilliant value for money. Will definitely be using this service again and great to have access to quality food from a Canterbury restaurant in Ashford and the surrounding villages.....

We ordered a meal to be delivered from here based on recommendations from fitness who have eaten in the restaurant.As it as our anniversary we wanted to enjoy an evening with something special to eat, unfortunately the delivery was really disappointing.We did expect to wait for longer than the average delivery would take, however we ordered at 7pm and hadn’t heard anything by 8:15. When we called the restaurant the lady that answered couldn’t find the order, then eventually found it and could be heard in the background calling through to the chef to ask how quickly they could prepare a chicken. It was quite clear that they weren’t aware of the order until we called but rather than explain the mistake the lady stated that the order was nearly ready and there was no issue. She then gave multiple timescales, varying from 30 - 45 mins more before telling us it could be ready at 8:30, knowing full well it hadn’t started to be cooked yet.When the food hadn’t arrived by 9 we again tried to call in and query what was happening but multiple calls went unanswered. The food arrived around 9:10 and fell through the bottom of the paper delivery bag on to the floor. The taxi driver at this point just proclaimed ‘ I am only taxi, they only ask me to deliver’.The food was still within the foil dishes and so at this point we decided to attempt to make the best of it.The food was ok but not good enough for us to order again when weighed up against the delivery issues and being deceived regarding the issues they were clearly experiencing.Genuinely disappointed and will not use again.

..and that includes being greeted at door by thermometer,hand sanitizer...oh and great smile and charming manner . A lesson in how to apply well needed precautions in these Covid times. The meals themselves were a succession of delights with excellent produce being prepared, cooked and served with real skill added by great presentation. The amuse bouche offerings were a not to be missed terrific bonus. My wife and son both found the vegan choices they made were clearly cooked and designed as integral of restaurant menu not as a reluctant "option". Wonderful evening. Many thanks

I'd lived in Canterbury for several months before trying the Ambrette, and I wish I'd tried it sooner! The food is incredible - easily some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I had the veg sharing platter which includes a dosa, fried okra, an amazing aubergine curry and several other dishes. Also the manchurian dumplings which are fantastic. I don't usually have dessert but the chocolate samosa is a must try.The staff are really friendly - almost always bringing over complimentary sides and starters.All in all a fantastic restaurant which quickly became my favourite in the area. They've also been fantastic during the 2020 lockdown - doing home deliveries and offering lots of discounts. Great place.

We have used the delivered meal service twice from the Canterbury restaurant. The menu is sufficiently varied, the portions are generous and very good value with the generous discount. There is even an unexpected additional yogurt/smoothie type that goes well with fresh fruit if you wish. Full marks to all at Ambrette for adapting to the reality of constraints on eating out, while maintaining the standards of eating in the restaurant. We will be ordering again.

Collected on Saturday, 22nd August... had chicken, aubergine, beef and tiger prawn main dishes with potato sides! Absolutely brilliant and full of flavour! Super simple service for ordering and collection and thoughtful extras in the form of salads, poppadums and lassis! Thank you Ambrette; we will order again!

This was the worse Indian food I have ever eaten. It was ordered from their Dover outlet for delivery. I had South Indian beef which came as 6 small dried up inedible pieces floating in some oil. The spinach/lentil and chickpea side came in two small pots that were less than 1/3 full and were completely bland and tasteless. It was like cat food and went straight into bin. What a complete joke. It looked more like the leftovers from last weekend. I think this was not only the worst Indian but the worst food I have ever been served.

Ordered from the new Dover “pop up” kitchen and collected at a pre-arranged time. Arrived to find that the pub front yard was full of rowdy youths with no concept of social distancing so had to navigate through uncomfortably - into a bar where I was studiously ignored. No signage or branding at all - wondered if I’d come to the wrong pub! Eventually was acknowledged by barmaid who directed me to the kitchen at the rear, where I was also ignored. Eventually, the kitchen staff realised I was there and brought my order (to be fair, the guy was then very friendly). Food was ok - but very expensive (£45 for only two starters and mains) for a takeaway. I would like to try it as a restaurant meal as some ambience, plates and presentation might make a difference but I’m probably unlikely to do the takeaway experience again. Too expensive for such a poor experience.

We love the restaurant in Canterbury so when a takeaway service was available from Dover we couldn’t wait to try it. The food arrived promptly and was delicious from start to finish. We couldn’t fault it and are already looking forward to our next one

Waited all night for our take away and it never arrived. Ordered through Deliveroo and after two hours it said it was ‘delivered’ when it wasn’t. Numerous phone calls ignored however money has been taken from our account. Physically went into the restaurant the next day to try and get some answers and there wasn’t any...because it went through deliveroo we have to chase our payment up with them. SUCH a disappointment as we were celebrating our anniversary and wanted a special take away meal to celebrate it with (we have a toddler so couldn’t go out). Also, at over £40 it’s the most we’ve ever spent on a take away and we ended up with nothing, really upset about this.

Had a roast dinner delivered today and it was overall very good. Meat was superb and the seasoning throughout was spot on. Some including me would say the carrots were a little undercooked but the cauliflower was exceptional.For a home delivered meal it arrived on time, hot and well put together. Would definitely recommend.

My husband and I had delivered last night our fifth take-away from The Ambrette, and just can't believe that each one is just as good, if not better, as the one before. The food, as usual, arrived bang on time, hot and smelling just gorgeous. Everything was cooked to perfection and plentiful. Although we're looking forward to returning to the restaurant when things are back to normal, now that delivery is to be a permanent service offered we can't wait to share a take-away with our family when shielding is finished for us. A special mention to Rebecca for her wonderful customer care, she's always chatty, cheerful and very helpful, and obviously enjoys dealing with customers. We're already looking forward to our next meal delivery!

First time takeaway from these guys. Arrived on time with friendly taxi driver. Food was superb, all four of us had different dishes and everyone was very happy. It is obviously top price for a takeaway but we all agreed that it would be much better to have less ‘basic’ takeaways and treat ourselves to one of these instead

Don’t book delivery. We did, last week and they were an hour late. Very apologetic & gave us a discount. So we booked again this evening. At this moment it’s now one hour 15 minutes late. So two evenings ruined. The food is great, but they have zero idea of how to run a take away service.

It's rare for us to give a takeaway full stars as there's always room to improve but this is The best takeaway we've ever had! From the time it took to prepare, how they packed everything and then the taste of the food itself. They managed to bring their dine in experience into the takeaway and we were just grinning whilst eating the food. Pure delight. If there was anything that they could improve on was maybe the plastic that they use in the packaging. I do understand the challenge of serving Indian food in non-plastic containers but there was just too much of it especially in the small sauce pots and chutney. But still gets a 5 stars from us..

Had a great Afternoon Tea delivered for my birthday. Prompt delivery at 1pm. Food was delicious and unusual and made a lovely treat for my lockdown birthday. We decided to order another one, again to be delivered at 1pm. We were all set up to enjoy our food in the summer house. Alas, it did not arrive. We waited and waited and phoned and phoned (about 5 times) and eventually it arrived at 3.15pm with the appearance of something that has spent time in the back of a taxi. No explanation and no apology. Shame as it has influenced our decision about ordering again.

I revived a voucher for Afternoon Tea from my wife at Chŕistmas.During Lockďown I decided to use it.Amazing quality. The Potaote and Onion Sandwich was unique and was one of the most enjoyable things I've ever had.I've had Afternoon Tea at the Ritz, Claridges and Grosvenor House Hotel and this was up their in that level of class and quality.

Had the most exceptional afternoon tea delivered yesterday as a birthday treat. It was amazing, they thought of everything, even down to a selection of teabags! The sandwiches, scones and mouth watering cakes all lived up to the restaurant's extremely high standards. The complementary slice of birthday dessert and handwritten birthday card was such a lovely touch. I hope they continue with this service after lockdown. Wonderful.

Since lockdown we have been getting almost weekly take away deliveries from Ambrette.The food is always excellent, with good portions and superb sauces and extras included. We think it is very good value.The ordering and delivery process are very good and reliable.Top marks! Would recommend highly.

During the Covid period we craved a meal from The Ambrette, having been to the resturant in Margate pre lockdown. The meal we had at the resturant in Margate was the best Sunday Roast I have had in a long time, with the rest of my party agreeing. We ordered for a takeaway meal today from the Canterbury resturant, which was easy to order online, collecting it from the resturant. The food was hot and served by friendly and professional staff. On getting home the food was yet again amazing, with serious flavour and a generous portion. I will cetainly be eating from here again in the near future and spreading the word! Keep up the good work!

We had a delivery during lockdown. Absolutely amazing food. The sandwiches were the best and the small cakes were unbelievably gorgeous! We loved them. And so much choice in both the savoury and the sweet. Lovely lovely food and can’t wait to have the tea again and hopefully to go to the restaurant when they open properly again. Highly highly recommended!

We ordered an evening meal, which arrived promptly. We can't praise the Ambrette enough. The meal was superb, as it always is in the Restaurant. It was well packaged with recyclable materials and free extras. It was hard to choose from the menu as it all looked delicious but we settled on the pork belly followed by the chocolate ice-cream rolls. It was easily the best takeaway ever. We'll definately try the takeaway again. Just love the quality food.

Collected pre-oredered take-away meal today, and it was excellent, Well prepared and packed for take-away, with free extras such as samosas, to make a complete three course meal for two. Wonderful flavours and very tasty. Thank you.

A real treat, just what we needed in lockdown. The afternoon tea selection was just perfect, good mix of sweet and savoury with an Indian twist which made it really special! Gluten free and vegetarian options meant we were all catered for and leftovers will be equally welcome tomorrow Thank you Ambrette please keep on offering this!

Thank goodness Ambrette decided to go into the delivery business during the lockdown, they lit up my Saturday evenings and occasional Sunday with their fabulous food and incredible flavours. I cannot recommend their Sunday roasts highly enough, just super super tasty and their roast potatoes are a revelation. Their takeaway menu has something for everyone and their new crispy seafood starter is something I cannot get over, I would eat this as a main and then go back for seconds if I could actually fit it in, and the staff on the phone and delivery drivers are always super helpful - highly highly recommended

My husband and I have eaten often at both the Canterbury and Margate restaurants, and we, and our family, are great fans of their brilliant Sunday roast. However, due to lock-down, we were unable to book a table for my birthday yesterday as we normally would. So we decided to try the home delivery service, and it was just fabulous! We had the whole tandoori spiced chicken for two, and it came with all the usual accompaniments we have at the restaurant, as well as rice, salad, poppadoms and the most delicious sauce to pour over the chicken. A lovely surprise was the most amazing addition of a birthday card and a complimentary dessert for me! Everything was absolutely lovely, delivered spot on time and needed no reheating at all. It's my husband's birthday next week and we intend on ordering from the Ambrette again. Well done Dev and all the team for adapting to these difficult times, and doing it so brilliantly!

A classic afternoon tea with the Ambrette flavour fusion twist. Super tasty! Had a socially distant birthday tea for my mother-in-law in our garden, and she loved it. Well packaged, the warm stuff was still warm, and the chilled stuff still chilled. Got a bit confused matching all the different sauces to things, but they were all delicious, so, hey, a fun afternoon. The range of teas was also amazing. You need your own serving platters obviously.

We tried their delivery service last night for the first time. The food was excellent - the pork was really tender and tasty, and reminded me how good their food is all the times I've eaten at the restaurant.We were told the food would arive in up to 90 minutes and actually arrived an hour after I phoned, so happy about that.

We wanted a special meal for my birthday and choose the Ambrette as we have eaten at the restaurant in the past and had thoroughly enjoyed their delicious food.Ordering was easy and everything on the menu looked lovely. The food arrived on time and the dishes were hot . We had starters, mains, sides and dessert all which were absolutely fantastic.I would thoroughly recommend The Ambrette and congratulate all the staff involved in producing an exceptional experience.

How fantastic to have such a brilliant home delivered meal for my birthday. Ordering was easy and delivery was right on time. Everything arrived in perfect condition. All dishes were delicious and we couldn't have asked for better.

With COVID-19 lockdown making it impossible to celebrate our wedding anniversary we decided to use Ambrette's delivery dining. Booking was easy and a phone call tweaked the menu to fit our exact requirements. There was even a courtesy pone call to say our food was on its way and delivered on time. A nice touch were complimentary salads and poppadums.The advantage of home dining was that we got to share starters, mains and dessert, so everyone had a favourite dish in each course. I won't list them here - but everthing we has was excellent. The Ambrette know how to flavour food - the heat of the spices they use never overpowers the taste of each dish which makes them stand out from the crowd. I often find that desserts can be a bit of a let down - but not here. The lemon bavarois had a sharp tang and there was no doubt that the cheesecake was coconut. How could they improve? They can't! Fabulous food with service to match.

Our latest home delivery meal from this restaurant for a Zoom meeting meal with friends maintained the high standard of food experienced in previous meals provided from this source. The meal was delivered in new containers, separate for each starter or main course, and clearly labelled to identify the contents. This is a good development by the restaurant and made serving more easy. Good quality food and large quantities for both starter and main were enjoyed by us both.

We don't normally do takeaways preferring to eat out instead. However lock down forced us to re -think our plans for a celebratory family birthday. We have eaten at the Ambrette before on several occasions and it has never disappointed. Nor did their home delivery service. The same standard of food, delivered by a member of staff who was masked, gloved and who maintained social distancing at all time. The weather was kind to us and we were able to eat the Ambrette's fantastic food in the garden - as good as eating at their restaurant. Daughters ordered a surprise 3 course meal delivery to Faversham from Canterbury Ambrette for their step dads birthday. It was delivered on time still warm but did need to heat up mains but no problem Was delicious and up to usual Ambrette standard although without the amazing presentation Would recommend for something different Was £10 delivery but that was acceptable for a special occasionCouldnt download all photos !

From the time we placed the order the service was exceptional. It was nice to speak to someone face to face who took time and care with our order. The food was delivered on time and was piping hot. The food was of restaurant quality despite travelling and was super tasty. It was clear a lot of thought had been taken in developing the take away menu. Of particular note was the crispy seafood starter and the baked aubergine. We will be going back for more.

Always love eating at The Ambrette But this was our first takeaway. It was excellent. Friendly , helpful efficient staff ,delicious food . Portions a good size. Would thoroughly recommend it.

The Ambrette has a limited lock down menu to order to be delivered contact free to your door. The dishes are delicious "non-standard" indian/fusion cuisine using game as well as the usual chicken, samosas etc and lovely fresh veg. The meal arrives in recyclable containers. Highly recommend it. Try the pigeon starter and the sharing chicken for two.

Excellent food from the take away menu. Arrived on time and hot which is always a good start. Kersala Beef was excellent as was the tandoori chicken and can’t fault to the papadoms, naan and chickpea side dish first class. Will be ordering again and with a bit of luck visiting the restaurant in the not too distant future

So, we all find ourselves in this difficult situation and for many weekends, to ‘celebrate’ the end of a week we have had a takeaway of some description!

I ordered from here after a friend recommended them to us. During this quarantine we’ve been experimenting with food a lot, and i would like to consider myself a bit of a chef now. BUT this being said. I could never compare to the food we got from here. The chicken was juicy and filled with flavour, the tiger prawns come is a creamy almost korma-like sauce that I would LOVE the recipe too. The moral of the story, if you’re after Indian food, and even if you’re not, order from here. You’ll be as happy with your food as I am!

Although we had heard of the restaurant, had never quite made a visit prior to lockdown. With my husbands birthday, my birthday and now our anniverssary, we have gone back three times within six weeks to celebrate with their delivery service.

The Ambrette in Canterbury has always been a favourite place of ours to eat. The atmosphere is calm, the witing staff are so polite and the food DELICIOUS.

Amazing takeaway! 3rd time and every time it has been delicious, fresh, super tasty and bang on time. So much food that we eat over 2 nights. Highly recommend the prawns and seabass and all the starters. Simply the best takeaway we have enjoyed for a long while.

I had ordered a takeaway from the ambrette from the Sunday roast menu, it was lovely and delicious. It came on time and there was nothing missing. I really enjoyed it and it made my day. I will definitely be ordering from the ambrette again.

We have eaten at the Ambrette on a number of occasions and the food and service has always been excellent. However being in lockdown I ordered a takeaway for my Birthday meal - it was appalling, the chicken was over cooked and completely dry, the vegetables almost raw, hardy any sauce for the dosai plus one of the dishes I ordered was missing! We rang to complain and was told the manager would call. They have not contacted me - this is no way to run what used to be a fantastic restaurant!

I placed an order for 3 Sunday roasts which cost nearly £60 with the £9 delivery charge, I ordered it at 4.30pm for 6.30pm delivery. I recieved a call at 6.35pm to say that the delivery driver was still 20mins away from the restaurant and then by the time he collected our meals and drove to us it would be nearly an hours wait. One of the meals was for my young son so I asked to cancel as 7.30pm would be too late for him to eat. The restaurant agreed to this and said I would receive a refund. No refund and I've emailed with no response. Safe to say I wont ever be using them again and I'm £60 lighter and had to cook food anyway.

We love the Ambrette and wondered how it would work as a takeaway... It was fabulous, very tasty, hearty, beautifully packaged and still piping hot. Well done guys, and thank you!!!

Our takeaway meal was a meant to be lockdown treat but it was disappointing so sadly we threw most of it away.

We ordered a takeaway dinner for my mums birthday, as the virus has confined us all to our homes. Not impressed- the delivery was over an hour late and the main courses were so salty they weren’t edible. After phoning up to complain for the third time we were told that the manager would be informed and we would get a response ASAP. Still have not heard anything. I get that it is a difficult time at the moment however if you are going to continue to offer a delivery service, the standard of food should be the same as usual.

Thanks very much for delivering our dinner perfectly on time. In this difficult times for us all but especially for business to keep going, The Ambrette stayed true to their excellent tasty food and because of them we had a wonderful birthday dinner. Thanks again

At a time when restaurents are shut and we are all isolating ourselves, what a great pleasure it was to enjoy an evening meal supplied by this restaurent. We had previously agreed with friends that we would order our separate food deliveries to arrive at the same time and that we would then meet up through the Zoom app at our respective homes and to eat the meal together.

My daughter treated me to a chai tea last week. The ambience was great with a live pianist. The service was exemplary with a very professional and friendly waiter. The food was so, so good. Bombay potato slightly toasted sandwiches, chicken tikka sandwiches, everything was beautifully spiced and delicious. Fruit and cinnamon scones, vegetable pakoras and three cheese masala bites. The cakes were all homemade, with a great selection. I can honestly say this was the best “cream” tea I’ve ever had! The explosion of flavours was a delight. Highly recommended and can’t wait to go back.

This place is highly rated on TripAdvisor for a reason! The food here is so different but so delicious. Service was great, the food was presented immaculately and was just so good. I'm a massive foodie and this place is well worth a visit!

Came here for lunch today with my husband on his birthday. Every course was fabulous: trio of street food and lamb sausages for starters, pork belly and dosai for mains. I always order the dosai if I see it on a restaurant menu and this was scrumptious, as was the spinach dal that we had as a side order.

An excellent evening with the most exquisite food over many courses. The Sita player was great. Hena tattoo for the wife as well. Well done Ambrette

Had a great experience on Saturday for my first time visiting the restaurant. Brilliant service, from my lovely waitress Mia. Will be returning when I am next in Canterbury for business!

Pre theatre lunch. 12.15 Saturday for 4. Excellent all round. Could not fault any of the food or service. We enjoyed the complimentary starter, Pork loaf and a vegetable Bhaji. We also had one starter, Indian street food and two choices from the appetiser selection;- pork crackling and the chaat. For main we had the large Dosai and 3 of us had the non-veggie thaali feast. The chicken chettinand and goat curry were superb. 1 carafe of house red, 3 curious brews ( Chapel Down lager) 2 morettis and 1 glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. £144 without tip. The couple we introduced to the restaurant have already booked to go again. They are real foodies and loved it. Fantastic lunch...shame the show afterwards was a bit of a let down.

I found this restaurant online and its in a central quiet location in Canterbury.The decor is modern and relaxing and the greeting was immediate and warm.The pre dinner drinks appeared promptly and our waiter Richard was very knowledgeable about the menu and advised us well

I've been to The Ambrette in Canterbury a couple of times and always enjoyed it. The food is fun - you really enjoy eating it - great flavours and great combinations. One obvious problem is there is so much great choice that you can't possibly have it all. The decor is quite colonial which is interesting, but again fun. Good value overall. Do wish they would improve their marketing though - always receive notifications for events way too late!

We used to go to the Ambrette in Margate a few years ago, this was our first visit to the Canterbury branch though its been here some time. Very impressive cuisine with some unusual spicy flavors that I've not experienced in most Indian restaurants, with Western vegetables like asparagus, carrots and butternut squash combined with typically Indian dishes like chana dhal and biriani rice. Very enjoyable and good value [our friends had a special meal deal voucher]

We have been trying to get a date for ages to try the Induan themed afternoon tea and we were not disappointed.

Have debated whether to write a review of not here, but having read a couple of reviews I think it's worth noting. We dined here on a busy Saturday and can't fault the ambience or the decor. I would say though that toilets are pretty rubbish, despite being big and seem completely at odds with the wonderful eating area. The toilets are city estate pub standard. Anyway, the starters and my main were very good, however the wifes stir fried beef (as has been noted below by another review) wasn't stir fry at all, but a lump of dry over cooked beef. We felt the meals are in need of remembering that "less is more". You don't need rice and a potato dauphinoise and the odd bits of salad were completely out of place on the plate, i've no idea why they were there at all. The wine we had was very good.
