We spent 3 nights at the Amble Inn and we enjoyed our stay. Plenty of parking spaces for free. Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Walls are a bit thin, though Great choices for breakfast. Diner menu with something for everyone. Staff is lovely and very helpful. If I had to say anything negative, it is the lack of door handles. Door knobs aren't always good for elderly people. WC flush need adjusting.

Was unsure whether location warranted a 3 or 4. A bit of a trek to the town centre, but that's not a problem for us. And it did allow us to discover the excellent Brewis Beers close by. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was good, with lots of fresh fruits. Coffee very good, and cooked options looked fresh.

Restraunt empty on arrival my friend ordered first as we were paying separately .. then we ordered.. they forgot about my friends so they had to wait to eat.. Soft drinks as we were driving.. £3:95 for a coke way over priced.. Food was below average and chips were cheap and frozen .. won’t be back.. shame as ambiance nice and a good out side area..

Booked a table for 15 with high for meal for family also family from Australia on 11th June. The people who had fish and chips were not very happy with it as the batter was. Er thick and nearly burnt and fish inside was dry.The sticky toffe pudding was hard and cold as if it had just come out the freezer and wasn’t defrosted! I wasn’t going to say anything but after paying £276 for everything you have a right to know, whoever the chef was that night should be reprimanded.my daughter warned me before hand about the fish and I thought it was maybe a one off,but that is now on two different occasions and they were both through the week,so I thought I should inform you about. Hoping the next time I frequent the restaurant all will be well.

Give it a wide birth Low quality food, poor service. The young female waiting/serving spent most of her time just sat at the end of the bar, not sure what they were employing her to do ! We weren't asked if the meal was OK, there was no apology for the missed black pudding either. Not somewhere we will go back to or recommend either.

Went to the Amble INN Saturday afternoon for a small celebration, just for a few hours, there was a few people in eating and drinking outside in the sun lovely beer garden for families and pets. We had to wait only few minutes because the bar maid was on her own a one lady on the floor getting the glasses and plates from the tables they just never stopped which was very professional and keeping on top of the work. The drinks we had were good and not too expensive, the girls were cheerful and helpful to the kids in their perants, we've been in a few times over the last month and find you get smile and a hello again which is nice to be recognised they know our names which we introduced ourselves some time ago,we normally eat but not this time. We always thank the staff as we leave, the two ladies on this visit were Daniella and Julie which we know from other visits, thank you both again ladies we'll be back this weekend for father's day.👍

Nice atmosphere, but wait for service and mains coming after starter was very long and had to prompt staff to bring mains. The food that arrived was such a small portion, it took all 8 of us by surprise. Especially the mixed grill. It all just looked a little depressing. All chips were undercooked but that wasn't a huge deal for me. Overall because of the tiny portion sizes I wouldn't come back for how expensive it is. Called in for food on way home from Alnwick. Wish we hadn't bothered to be honest. Overpriced, bland...where do I start? Chips were undercooked. Watery gravy. Pork bun was dry and bland. No butter no stuffing nothing. Calamari was clearly frozen. Again undercooked and soggy. Waited ages for mains after our disappointing starters. Had to get cutlery off another table. The list goes on. Avoid unless you have no taste buds and like bland overpriced chain pub food.

We take our elderly mother here for lunch regularly as she loves going there and the food has always been very good. Yesterday was the first time we’ve been very disappointed. Two of us had the grilled Hallumi burgers which we’ve had before. The Hallumi hadn’t been grilled and looked straight out of the packet and the slaw was missing. The chips weren’t fresh as they usually are and were just warm. Is there a different chef there? We didn’t complain as my mother doesn’t like a fuss but it’s unlikely we’ll be back.

This was our first visit in approximately 18 months as the previous experience was not good, we decided to give it another go. I was most impressed with the food and service we received when we went for Sunday lunch this time. We waited 15 minutes to be seated and enjoyed a drink while we waited. We were shown to our table and asked if we had been before, we said we had which saved an explanation of how the service worked. We ordered at the bar and our order was taken by Chris who was helpful and polite. We had ordered Carvery, a small and large. The chef Jamie served the meat which was perfectly cooked and a decent portion. We helped ourselves to vegetables which again was perfectly cooked. The gravy was absolutely gorgeous!! It tasted home made and had been made from scratch with proper stock! Lovely large Yorkshire puddings to top it off. Half way through our meal we were approached by a lovely young girl called Becca and asked how our meal was and did we require anything else. Becca said just to ask if we required anything else. We enjoyed our meal and ordered another drink. Becca returned a little while later and asked if we would like a sweet or coffee which we declined due to feeling full! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back soon!

Had really nice Bacon and Sausage sandwiches (for two) today. The staff were very friendly. We arrived at 10.45 just before Breakfast finished at 11. The Staff apologised as Breakfast was nearly done and may be a little dry, as it was under the hot lamps. I took a quick look, the sausage and bacon looked fine so I ordered two bacon and Sausage sandwiches at £6 each. With two teas that came to £17. It was serve yourself, but they were good enough to nip in the back for brown bread. As there was no sauce, they were fine with adding beans and mushrooms. It's a really nice pub, large room, and dog friendly, the tea was nice and came with a biscuit. FYI light bite menu starts at 11 am, Main menu starts at noon. One final thought, I regularly stay in Hilton chain hotels and the hot breakfast buffet was as good as any I've had there and better than most. The sausage and bacon were both good quality. At £9.99 I'd fully recommend the breakfast.

I visit here a lot for the Sunday carvery . I emailed ahead to book a table only to be told management have decided that tables are no longer able to be booked and only a walk in service is offered. Me, my partner and daughter arrived at 1pm for lunch. There isn’t a lot of room around the front desk and there was 3 other parties of guests waiting. My partner spoke to the woman on the front desk and was told there are no tables. He asked if we could wait and he was told no because she didn’t know when there would be tables and there was nowhere to wait. We offered to go away and come back if we could have a table with an indication of how long it would be and was told not to do that as she couldn’t hold a table and didn’t know how long it would be. My partner asked to speak to the manager and she said she was the manager and that was the only answer she could give us. She was very rude and abrupt. We then left with 2 other parties who were told same thing. We got back to the car and were very disappointed as we love the carvery here and couldn’t believe we could only have a table if we arrived at the moment one was available. My partner then went back in to complain, asked the woman if she was the manager and she said no (meaning she lied earlier) and that it was pointless talking to the manager as he’d say same thing). My partner then spoke to the real manager and he basically said same thing so we left very unhappy and won’t be returning.

Last 2 times we have been to the amble in (within 6 weeks) the food has been poor at best. Today we called in for food (not my choice tbh). Family of 4 and a dog. table 28. 1.15pm. We found a table and sat down, looked at the menu, asked a member staff when she was walking past what the soup of the day was, her reply “food is stopped” and just walked off with no explanation. Every table around us had people eating food and a long que at the bar with people placing drinks and food orders. The staff member in question had literally been standing talking to one table (two ladies) for the entire time we were in the place, so you could not say that the staff were too busY. I attempted to find another member of staff to enquire why, and could only see the one guy behind the bar serving. We left at 1.40pm. As we were leaving, more familys were walking in with the same expectation that you would be serving food. We will not be coming back. Your staff can’t comunicate. You could have just put a simple sign up at the front door stating food is not available. If you dont have the staff (which i’m guessing is the reason) then you need to communicate this to customers. Everything your getting wrong is just basic stuff.

Visited on a Saturday evening with friends. On entry there were no staff to greet or direct to dining area, so we walked in and spoke to a young lady cleaning tables. She advised to find an empty table anywhere, so we settled on a raised area overlooking the front entrance to the hotel. After we had sat down and began to look at the menu dogs began barking at several tables in this area, and we then noticed dog bowls were under some tables. Now I fully understand that establishments now have dog friendly areas but it would have been nice if the staff member had pointed this out, as we could see no signage. Went to the bar to,order some food and drinks. The girls who served us had the most unfriendly, unpleasant couldn’t care less attitude I have encountered in many a year. Provided no information on drinks availability, and to cap it all, when I paid the bill simply handed my card back and walked away. No receipt given or even offered! There was a man at the end of the bar working on an electronic screen for some while who was totally oblivious to the service being handed out. Our meals arrived quickly, I had ordered a burger which came on a rectangular dish with a small wire basket with some thin fries in. Not a piece of salad or garnish, just a burger and a few chips which are at best warm. No member of staff attended our table and enquired whether our food was satisfactory. The menu itself is not particular exciting. On this visit experience we won’t make another. I could have had a better meal in a McDonalds at a better price and customer service.

1/5 -No meal and NO compensation. What a shame. This was our second time here and like most people we cant really afford to eat out in the current climate. So when we do, it's a treat. Sadly today our meal was very far from that. Poached eggs came out hard boiled so asked for some different ones, which was pretty uncomfortable but fair enough - poached eggs should have a soft runny yolk. The second lot came out raw, even the waitress seemed embarrassed. We definitely were, not to mention they had run out of spinach. By that time the rest of the table had finished eating so there was little point trying again, egg cookery seemed to be a bit of a problem though you would think that professionals should manage something so simple, that's what you are paying for after all. So one person in our party had no lunch at all. We were told that we wouldn't have to pay for our meal but no compensation was offered. I mean of course we wouldn't pay for the meal, it wasn't eaten. No food was eaten in the end. Sadly they sent out a children's dessert wrong as well so that had to go back and be changed as well. Ugh. So embarrassing by this point. Generally just not good enough. Like most people being careful with money, having chosen a family treat, what a shame that this kitchen couldn't manage to cook eggs (or get a dessert order right). It also felt really crappy that someone senior didn't come to see us, apologize and offer compensation. After all one of our party left with no food because they couldn't cook an egg, twice. Really really disappointing all round and badly handled. What a waste of what was meant to be a hard earnt treat.

The premises were good and the staff friendly. The menus provided adequate choice, but some options appeared pricey based on the description. Our main courses were good. We had selected the two course special option, and to save time ordered both main and desert at the same time. Our mains arrived in good time and as the empty plates were collected we were asked if we wanted our deserts straight away. Having replied “yes please” to this question, it was frustrating to have to wait half a. Hours to get the deserts, and then only after two reminders. While the deserts were tasty, the bread and butter pudding lacked any resemblance to the traditional offering, and the custard was fresh from the tin without the benefit of heat. The staffed worked really hard, but there seemed too few of them.

Loads of better places to eat in the area at better value. Chips were raw, burger bun was stale. Way overpriced for what it is. Service was good and staff were pleasant.

Decided to give The Black Bull a second chance after having dinner there myself in early June, which was an up and down experience. I had the soup for starters that had so much pepper in it, it would have blew a normal persons head off! I quite like pepper so just managed it ok. The main course arrive and was luke warm, I ate it anyway, but when I was asked if everything was satisfactory, I let the staff member know the food tasted ok, but the temperature wasn’t hot enough. He said that it was a new chef who had only started that week as the old chef had retired, and a few other diners had also made the same complaint, so when I went to pay the bill he knocked the price of the main course off it, which I thought was a fair outcome. During a friendly chat with him before leaving, I said I’d be returning to the area for my family summer break in a few weeks’ time, and he told me that the Sunday roast dinners were fantastic and the old chef would be returning on a Sunday to cook these. I was told to book in advance, as it is was always too busy to just walk in and get a table. So I took onboard the advice and a few weeks later I decided to book a table for the seven of us. We arrived for dinner late afternoon on the Sunday and our table was reserved as expected, staff were nice and friendly and the pub wasn’t that busy, with only another three or four small tables having food. Our orders were duly taken and starters arrived reasonably quickly and everyone enjoyed them. Unfortunately the mains were not as quick, and we had quite a long wait. To make things worse, all the plates of food arrived luke warm, definitely not hot as they should have been. All five adults chose from the Sunday roast menu options with four of us choosing the "Sirloin of Beef" option. The sirloin that was served was not of the greatest quality, and although advertised as being served “pink”, was undercooked and very, very rare, to make this worse, all four pieces of meat were full of gristle and fat, and for most of us, large pieces of it were inedible. We were also put off with the “creamy mash”, which was a strange grey colour, and did not taste good. Also the plate of vegetables that was laid on the table for us all to share was embarrassingly insufficient to satisfy 5 adults, we actually thought the portion was for two to share, and couldn’t believe it when no more arrived. Once we had all finished the meal, we noticed the chef had came out from the kitchen, possibly for a break This was definitely a younger person, and definitely not someone old enough to retire. After a second poor experience in just a few weeks, I will unfortunately not be returning the The Black Bull in Etal village again, and unless the situation changes drastically for the better, I wouldn’t recommend the pub for anyone who is expecting hot food or a quality dining experience.

A nice location with different menu. We both had the slow roast with the morrocan twist. Would certainly recommend the place to others.
