Delicious food. Lovely staff. Going again for a Friday fix.

Old chios and need to be taught how to make decant batter, worst I've ever tasted.

The Almighty Cod is a lovely place to visit. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and efficient. As for the food, the fish and chips are lovely and cooked perfectly. I would certainly recommend visitors to Seaton Carew to try the Almighty Cod, they will not be disappointed.

Nice food the batter on the cod was nice crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Asked of they sold cod bites to be told they sold a small fish even though cod bites were on the menu which I didn't get

I asked for gluten free fish and chips and they accommodated me with this request. The food was amazing and the staff very friendly and helpful

A lovely little resteraunt that serves both eat ins and take outs. This is our normal place to go when visiting Seaton, but the last time we were there, we noticed a member of staff was a little less friendly and rather rude when talking to customers and staff.

Amazing patties! Always have to get them when in the area. Very helpful staff who boxed up several patties for my wife's Mom to bring back to the West Midlands for us last week. Best chippy in Seaton.

We travel from Inverness regularly to Seaham to see our boys tried loads of fish shops but nothing compares to this place it's fabulous fish worth the travel been using it for at least ten years just don't go at 12 to 12-30 mega que . The quality and quantity is just amazing and it's every time never been disappointed yet keep going Almighty Cod.

Fancied a ride out from Sedgefield - a walk along the sea front and some fish & chips , by chance we selected The Almighty Cod , best thing we did - they were excellent, I asked for large cod & chips I could hardly close the tray. Will definitely visit again.

This place has an outstanding reputation in the area, all I can say is its well deserved .Fish and chips are amazing as are the pies.

The batter has changed as it was flat and abit soggy. The fish was also dry.

Fish and chips right? How easy is that? Well the chips were quite tasty but far too much batter on the fish, didn't use to be like this, waiting time when only a few people in the shop seems to be longer but the end result is not getting any better. All this for £10 a head.Definitely gone downhill as of late. Maybe look across the road.

I have regularly used The Almighty Cod for years, both sit in and take away and never been disappointed until now. The cod was grey and dry , the batter too heavy and overcooked. It was like a different product, so much so I thought it was under new ownership. I don’t know what went wrong but I doubt I’ll be back if standards have slipped that much.

Almighty disappointed … visited on a wet Friday at 14.57 for a fish & chip takeaway for two. I choose the establishment on the basis of other positive reviews. Unfortunately my experience was one of quantity over quality. The pros were quantity if that’s important to you, tasty/hot curry sauce & clean chips. The cons were that the f&c lacked any freshness/crispness, the batter was too thick/chewy and the fish fillet was dense lacking any lightness/flakiness. I personally feel this was because the fish & chips had simply stood too long since cooked. My recommendation to the proprietor would be to cook to order when the shop is quiet. When customers pay £10 a person for a takeaway they deserve better. After all if you’re after fast food there are plenty of cheaper alternatives.

Found this little gem next door to the Might Cod takeaway it’s part of the Fish n chop shop. Friendly staff and amazing fish and chips, well worth the money!

Had a fish from here not for me the fish was tasteless and i wasnt keen on the batter (to thick)

Excellent value for money and great food. Staff are an asset to the business. The best cocktails in town from very knowledgeable mixologists.

I wish we had takeaway instead as that's always lovely. Instead we went sat down. It seemed we were waiting for ever to get the food we ordered . When it arrived the fish was only warm as if left on a plate the batter was soggy fish was gray inside chips seemed only half cooked .Will not eat again in restaurant .we have since started using chip shop just over the road and cannot fault it .

Be careful when you order food here. I ordered 2 small cod, small chips and a small tub of curry sauce. I was told that they didn't have any small cod, only large but they could split one. Fair enough, except when it came to payment, I was charged for 2 small cod instead of 1 large! Had I not already worked out what I should have been charged and just accepted what the young girl behind the counter said, I'd have been overcharged by 60p. Be careful. Don't just take it for granted that they're charging you the right amount.

Ordered large fish and chips for me Half lot for my niece and a couple of drinks to go with it. Have to say fish was lovely and batter crisp and chips were to my liking also.

Used to be really good when the restaurant part was open. We tried for fist time in fish shop part wasn't the same. Just one young lass serving. Miss what it used to be like. Fish really nice chips ok.

Avoiding like the plague moving forward. Been coming for 5 years often and tonight has seriously annoyed me to a point where I won’t be back. Teach your servers to not stand off with customers in a shop when they ask for something that is right there in front of them but you say no because someone from the restaurant might order it. Asking me to pay an additional £5 for food that won’t be eaten? No. It’s not acceptable. Thanks for ruining my last night with my partner for a while and also the only food I have looked forward to since becoming very sick. You might be able to speak to the tourists that way and get away with it but not the locals who see you through winter. Get a clue about business and customer service. To think we queued for 30 minutes because you took an age to serve 5 people in front was also pretty appalling and never worth the wait again.

Fish and chip shop on the seafront. The portions were good but they did not have all the options on their menu. Fish and chip were ok but not outstanding the corn beef patty was not something we would ever order again.

Absolutely vile, fish smells weird and has like bleach/chemicals smell, also theres a pool of grease in the tray which I've never seen when served fish and chips... this is actually the second time this has happened too. Wont be returning

I odered 2 large chips from the take away and I thought the girl had not heard me .she said what i got was large. I swear there was about 15 chips. I should have taken a picture. I know there is a cost of living crisis but when the chippy starts to skimp on the amount of chip you are give it's really bad.

Missed out part of order. Not the best it has been. Very slow service.

Food really tasty but service shocking no more than 16 people eating including us the fish and chips come from next door but waited over 40 mins from placing order to receiveing it then ask for a bowl of scraps the waitress went to get them but never returned maybe went on a bad day

The Almighty Cod is my favourite Fish and Chip shop in Seaton. The chips are not greasy and the Fish is beautifully flaky with a lovely batter. Quite often there is a very large queue outside (as there should be with all good chip shops) but I assure you it is worth the wait. You can ring an order ahead too to save some time. A fantastic vast menu with lots of special items too (battered Mars Bar, Halloumi Fries and a great selection of homemade brownies) If you've not been here before I urge you to give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Didn't really enjoy food, chips were like scaps, bottom of the barrel. Fish was nice but son didn't enjoy chicken bites. One person serving yet plenty of others behind counter. Stood for ages yet only 2 in front of us. Atmosphere was not the best. Very disappointed 😞

Always great visiting the Almigty Cod in Seaton Carew. This is by far the best chippy in the area. A half lot on a Saturday evening, was a bit chilly on Seaton front, but can't blame the Almighty Cod for that. The Half-lot was perfect.

Proud to leave such a review... Called here on Saturday night. 2 x fish and chips 1 x chip butty 2 x bread buns 2 x mushy peas Myself and my husband have ate fish and chips at many different places throughout the country and i must say that these are up there with the best ive ever had. Fish was a decent heavy thick piece, the batter melted in your mouth and chips were very nice. The mushy peas were incredible, nice and runny and not dried out like some places. Bread bun is a bread bun however nice and fresh it were. All for £25.....bargain. Keep up the good work and wish you well.

Went tonight Thursday 29th March 2 large haddock n chips 2 kids fish and 2 large sausage researched before I went and supposed to be in the top ten chippies in Britain. Well I was so disappointed none of the chips in any of the meals were fresh they were hard dry and more like scraps and for the price it was disgusting. Maybe try serving fresh chips complete rip off at £38

Take out large cod and chips and a cup of tea. Amazing! Lovely friendly staff. I highly recommend it.

Food not that good. Asked to have it wrapped. A 2 year old could have wrapped better was charged £1 for a couple of tablespoons of gravy and when I got home it was cold

Takeaway fish + chips gorgeous.

Great food and very generous portions. Very helpful staff who were working hard to keep the queue down at the door. Less than 10 minute wait from start of queue to being served. Definitely worth the wait - best fish & chips in Seaton!

It was over 2 years since our last visit..The return earlier today, was a welcome surprise..Value for money meal in spades, with a service and atmosphere to match..Treat yourself we are glad we did..Hope to see you again soon 👍

The queue wasn't that long for a change so thought we'd give it a try. Wish we hadn't bothered. Fish and chips were rubbish. Stale old chips and over cooked fish in batter. Mushy peas were ok I suppose. Very disappointing lunch.

Best fish and chips in the town!

Best chippy in the area and the curry sauce is second to none.

Food taste lovley. I also ordered a gluten free half lot. It was plenty big enough for one person. (It didn't agree with me but that's the risk I take when eating out) There are often ques and I can see why. I'd say the prices are about average.

Absolutely perfect, I was surprised by the large portions the fish barely fit in the box. Batter was perfectly crisp and not soggy at any point, the chips also perfectly cooked through. Curry sauce was on point, wish I had gotten another tub.

Been waiting a while to visit this place and blimey was it worth the wait! A cracking bit of haddock, beautiful batter, good chips. Right up there with the best fish n chips I've ever had. Highly recommended

I've been a customer for over 30 years and always visit when back in the vicinity for the best cod and chips in the area but I won't be back. I had the worst cod ever it was grey, tasteless, the batter raw on inside, thick with grease and the chips were too. Miserable staff, not a smile or please or thank you either. Really gone downhill, wonder if it has changed hands. It really was the best when it was Don Bees though. So disappointed 😞

Friendly, cheerful staff. Food and value is very good. Can be very busy in peak periods but for good reason.

We stopped to have something to eat after a walk on the beach, staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was lovely. Not badly priced either.

Worth the wait. Only place I'll eat chips from, the half lot fish is really nice, shame they never seem to have it anymore, the full size fish isn't as nice, even when they nice enough to cut one in half to make a half lot portion. However still nicer than any other chip shop I've found on Teesside.
