I absolutely love this place, the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Me and my work colleagues are here 50% of the time during the week. We are now regulars.. the food is insane and the waiting times are not long at all. Definitely recommend

We ordered from the lunch menu and the rolls were so tough I think they may have been stale. Awful. Coke isn’t included in the deal but Diet Coke and Coke Zero are… weird!

Nice bar (I’m sure I was here 20 years ago when it was a sports theme bar with pool tables and the likes) but £7.40 per pint is a joke. I thought my initial order tab was due to more expensive beer, but no, this is the default beer price. I can’t see me ever returning here.

Met a friend for lunch. The pub is nice and clean and the seating is comfortable with a nice ambiance. Sadly the food was very disappointing. I had a fish finger sub that had a very minimal amount of fish finger the chips were also a bit underdone and tasteless. My friend had the cheesy joe.. this had no cheese at all and was just full of raw onion. I doubt I will return.

4 of us dropped in for lunch before a show. Ordering is easy on the APP. Food was ok, pretty standard pub food but good quality and priced well for its location. Recommend the burrito bowls and the blue cheese fries, the chicken wings were a bit overdone though. Staff were nice and welcoming. The place itself is huge but the seating isn't too crowed. We would definitely return.

Awful service. Food was very late. And cold. I had a very long, black hair in my wrap. My colleague had to wait over an hour for her lunch order. Won't be eating there again.

I love the ve ue, it has such a welcoming vibe to it. I love having the drinks and food here. The staff are also welcoming and advises on what to have if your stuck for choice!! Highly recommend!!

Really tasty food that is freshly made and cooked perfectly. Good portions. Beer is fresh and obvious they clean/maintain their pipes often. Great atmosphere for a casual drink and lunch meal. I struggled to choose from the fantastic selection on the menu, but "settled" for a Pizza cone (never had one) that was delicious. Highly recommend and will go going back when I have the chance.

After looking for somewhere to eat while staying in London on business, we found The Alice and were not disappointed. It has a great variety of food that makes you salivate just reading the menu. It's very reasonably priced for its location and the portions are just right for the average foodie. The drinks are good too, and I enjoyed a very nice smooth pint of London Pride in proper pint mug, not the usual pint glass. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Popped in to escape the heatwave to find a wonderfully spacious, welcoming and chilled (in every sense of the word!) pub. Great selection of drinks, cricket on the numerous screens and genuinely lovely staff - Robyn was an absolute star 🌟 - thank you :)

La segunda vez para el almuerzo y las comidas buenas y rápidas, el servicio está bien, lo que lo decepciona es la morena malhumorada que irrumpe y te ignora por completo cuando le das las gracias o algo así. Bonito lugar en general, pero el gerente necesita capacitar a la joven en sus habilidades de servicio al cliente.

Fifty five of us had a lovely Christmas dinner here on 11/12. The food was lovely and very crispy potatoes. Mel and the team were absolutely amazing. Very well organised. Lovely table decor and a lovely ambience. Thanks guys.

So we kindly joked with the manager about “December”, he didn’t appreciate it. We didn’t insist and sat quietly in a corner to see him shouting at his staff. Nice bar, poor management.

Lunchtime visit with a friend. New refurbishment all looked nice and spacious.. Food wasn’t great and not good for the price. The burger was tiny, the fish was meant to be cod but not sure if it was... Drinks were fine.

Reservamos una mesa en el Alice para el almuerzo que llegamos temprano, que no fue un problema para el personal. El gerente Gary fue muy acogedor y nos ayudó a emparejar a Gin con el tónico perfecto. La comida era increíble y tan abundante que realmente disfrutamos de nuestras comidas. Gary se aseguró de que tuviéramos una gran experiencia y nos hizo una estrella porno Martini perfecta. Sin duda recomendaría el Alice, ya que tiene un ambiente acogedor, la comida es excelente y el personal atento.

Went there for a quick lunch with some colleagues on a Friday. It was very crowded which is understandable. But the waiters were very attentive and food was great.

Mi esposo y yo visitamos este pub mientras salíamos por la noche. Sabemos de la Alicia ya que ambos hemos trabajado en la Ciudad durante mucho tiempo. Este pub realmente necesita un buen cambio de imagen: se ve muy cansado y desaliñado ahora. Nos pidieron que nos moviéramos de asientos debido a la zona en la que estábamos para una fiesta privada esa noche. No es un problema en absoluto, ya que había un montón de asientos de repuesto. La cortina que iba a separar la fiesta privada del pub principal estaba literalmente colgando de la barra de la cortina y se veía como si hubiera estado durante bastante tiempo - seguramente alguien podría poner un nuevo par de cortinas ya que hace que se vea realmente cutre y correr hacia abajo. El baño de caballeros fue un accidente absoluto esperando a que sucediera y me sorprende que incluso dejen que la gente los use. Desgaste sanitario agrietado junto con un terrible problema de pisos. Me sorprende que aún no hayan sido demandados por alguien que tropezó y se cayó. Por favor, actúen juntos, aunque han estado allí por mucho tiempo, no es bueno sentirse complacientes.

Entré aquí el viernes pasado a la hora del almuerzo, hice cola durante más de 15 minutos y volví a caminar directamente hacia afuera.Literalmente había 3 personas trabajando en el bar y pasaban la mayor parte del tiempo ayudándose mutuamente para conseguir una ronda de bebidas en lugar de servir a las 3 personas que esperaban una bebida.Fui a otro pub y fue servido de inmediato

Basically came here with 26 friends and all ordered food! The lovely bartender Jess (i think her name was) was very understanding and co operative. I’d like to thank the staff for the 100% food, service and making us want to come again! Would definitely recommend! Cosy and comfy.

Absolutely appalling service. Went for a private event with my company on a Wednesday evening and so the bar wasnt too busy. Yet, the service was slow, the waiters were moody faced and seemed to pointedly avoid making eye contact with anyone. My colleague and I were stood right next to the bar counter and spent 25 minutes waiting to be served before giving up, going to the nearest Pret and purchasing our food from there to eat inside. Save your time and energy; pick somewhere else.

Was staying the night in the local area for work, this place was ideal. Good service, food and prices for London. Was able to sit in a corner, enjoy the music and do all bit of work one evening

We had friends over from the US, including their 2 young children and decided to meet them here for dinner on a Wednesday night. We ordered food, as a group of 6 at approximately 7pm. 30 minutes after ordering, and after chasing the order, we were told there was a mix up and the order would be delayed. This is unacceptable, particularly as we wanted to have our dinner and leave before it was too late for the children. After informing us that our order was being processed, we then learnt that the order was taken down incorrectly with one of the meals omitted from the order. The Manager kept sending his staff member who told us he had no influence over what he could do for us and the delay. Eventually, after asking several times, the manager arrived to say that we would not have to pay for our drinks - we were drinking soft drinks and although it was a nice sentiment, we would have appreciated more off our meal that was over 50 mins late and which arrived for each member of our group at different times. We had to request deserts for the children who were exhausted by that point and even then, the Manager was reluctant to take any responsibility for the delay. If they are unable to manage food orders in the evening, then management should consider taking food out of the equation in the evenings.

Went here for evening drinks with my wife. Ruined by the door staff. Very aggressive and rude. Give it a miss.

Been there for a saturday event. It was great, the pub changes completly at night. Week days it's a pub where you can have lunch or dinner. Food is great!

We went to the Alice for Dinner and a drink after work. The Alice is large and bright inside and whilst was relatively quiet at 5.30 p.m. was very lively and quiet at 6.30 p.m. The staff were very attentive and helpful and the food was reasonable. The menu is quite extensive. The prices of drinks however we thought were expensive. The place is clean, although the toilets could be cleaner. Whilst we enjoyed our time we would not rush back. There are plenty of other bars/restaurants nearby.

Went there on Saturday night with a group of friends. The bar was hosting a private event which was so much fun. Staff were super friendly, the venue is beautiful and if you go during the day they have very nice pizzas. Will definitely return

This place is getting known as the place not too go to around the city. The actual place is really nice, the food is pretty good also. However, the service behind the bar is dire. It's almost as if customers are an inconvenience. The bar is always short staffed and the staff are really slow or can't be bothered. I keep giving this place another chance as it's just around the corner to my office, but nothing changes. Spoke to some work colleagues and they felt the same "we never go there, the service is awful". I won't be going back, which should make the barstaff happy, less inconvenience.

Reading some reviews I was not sure but given other places near weren't serving food decided to give a go. Pleasantly surprised. For me very good pub grub. Had a fab burger and chips. Decent beer too. Not al a carte dining but better than expected and good value for money.

I had a very tasty Mac & Cheese Pizza, cooked just right and delivered in good time. Mind you I did go at 12:30 on a Tuesday and the pub was still quiet then.It's part of the Nicholsons pub chain and appears to offer food at a higher price compared to the other local Nicholsons pubs (Hop & Grapes & Minories) EXPECT if you go for the pizza option, which seems to be their 'specialty.'My friends also had pizzas and whilst they enjoyed them they did say that next time they'd ask for a bit less sauce on each.

This place is pretty big but can also get very busy at peak times.Plenty of choice on beers and despite the crowds the staff seem to get to you in no time at all.Food is basic but reasonably priced for the area.The only downside is that they tend to turn up the music pretty early so well before anyone is looking to dance you are struggling to talk to the person next to you.

Booked this for a team Christmas lunch with a silver platter buffet. Sounded fantastic and at £23.50 a head with some profiterole I expected some half decent food. Chips and Iceland frozen nibbles heated up and served up. £300 for about £40 worth of food, a complete rip off. Took an age to get a bucket of beer to start off. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

I met a friend for lunch and I ordered the pepperoni pizza. When it came, there were exactly 6 pieces on it. As the pizza had been cut into 8 pieces, two of the slices were cheese only. Don't eat here!! There are much better pubs in the area.

Popped in here for a quick bit to eat, ordered the mac and cheese and a pizza, the mac and cheese came out Luke warm and with a taste like rubber. The pizza also was cold and not very nice at all. We both left very disappointed with our food.

Just visited this massive pub-like place near Liverpool Street station. Clean, well managed and nicely decorated. Young and efficient staff, good selection of drinks on offer. Popular with office crowd. Busy at times but large enough to find a quiet corner.

Pretty much what it says on the tin. Decent range of drinks as you'd expect from any good bar. 20% off if you work at SCC or have a friend who does!! Not too cheap not to expensive, oh and they do great pizzas that definitely help soak up the alcohol!!

Standing room only at 1:30 in the afternoon, couldn't believe how "happening" the place was midday. Their pizza was to die for, clearly homemade sausage on the pizza--YUM! Daily lunch specials for the work week.

I really do like this bar because of the size and funky decor and in busy times you can always get a seat BUT ! Waiting for service is just sooo long! It's a massive bar but why isn't there double the staff taking orders? It's so frustrating that a lot of times its just easier to go elsewhere. The food isn't bad, pub food of course but it's good enough if you fancy something hot in your lunch break that doesn't break the bank, just make sure you give yourself enough time to get served , eat, drink and pay before your next meeting , an hour sometimes isn't enough .Evening times are the same, long waits for your pint, if your not in a rush pop in.

Stopped by for a pint and a bite to eat. Staff at the bar not exactly welcoming but ok. Waitress far friendlier. The food arrived quite quickly, I just ordered 3 items from the tapas menu which was very tasty, no complaints about the food or service at all. The bar was loud and full of the most obnoxious people I have ever seen. The 'gentleman' on the next table to me was loud and foul mouthed. There was also a couple of other groups where they were literally shouting to each other. If you are after a relaxing pint and bite to eat after work, this isn't the place to go, which is a shame as its a nice place and the food was decent, it's just the people that use it.....

As Thursday is the new Friday it can be difficult to find a pub on Thursday in the city that is not packed. This place is large and was not packed. Seemed quite a friendly place with a good atmosphere. Good selection of beer and wine and very reasonably priced, with bottles of wine around 15 quid. Had a pizza too which was fine. Pleasantly surprised.

We went here for the football, very busy but well organised for space. They have a good selection of drinks behind the bar so I would be interested to see what their food is like. My only moan was the quickness of the service, it was busy but the staffed seemed slow, will come back though!

Staying at the Hallow place Travelodge round the corner we tried this corner bar for an evening meal without going too far. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful making us feel not too much of a stranger in a strange bar. I decided to try their all day breakfast and my wife tried their vegetarian all day breakfast. We both enjoyed our choices especially being able to compare the two. The freshly made evening breakfast was great with the cumberland sausages topping off all the expected items. The decor is quite eclectic with one wall covered in black and white drawings around a huge mirror and other areas on different levels only a couple of steps up so you could change your viewpoint in just a short movement. The background music became a dj fed sound but not too loud to put you off your meal. I don't know the origin of the name of the place but I pointed out to my wife that 'Alice' was also a disease - 'cos Christopher Robin went down with it! Ok, she didn't laugh either. Alice is a nice place to relax in with a friendly vibe.

Popped in for a quick lunchtime pint as they advertise having "craft beer". I live in London but I found £5.20 for a micro brewery beer extortionate, it wasn't even kept very well. I have tasted the same beer at other local pubs a lot cheaper (£1 just across the road)and a Li better tasting.Disappointed cant afford to come back.

This place is great for a group gathering. There is plenty of space and you even have a DJ who plays a great mix of music but not too loud that you can't hear your friends. We will defn be going back!!

Great for the youngsters but not so good for the over-35's. Long queues at the bar and music volume ramped up to ear-splitting by the end of the evening. Not my favourite in the area but always pretty busy so clearly liked by many. Food is actually quite good.

This is the second time I have had the black and blue burger here and it is so tasty. The Alice is a really nice bar/restaurant and seems to have had a another minor refurbishment recently as there seemed to be some new tables and chairs. There were plenty of people behind the bar and service was very quick considering it was Friday lunchtime. The meal was also served promptly.

When you wait 20 minutes in a bar to get a drink you know it's no good:/.... No more to say as we're not staying - just feeling thirsty!

Went last weekend for a few pints after work and a small bite to eat started with the Guinness in a glass that I wasn't 2 confident was clean but had a mouthful was just all bad... so decided to get a sharer platter it was ok took quite long for food to arrive and was just average overpriced for what you get and yeah dodge the Guinness

Called in for a quick drink after myself and the wife had been on the "Jack the Ripper" tour.I found the drinks here to be ridiculously expensive, made even more-so, by the guy next to me at the bar running up a bill of £812 on 1 round of drinks.I suppose being so close to the financial district has its up-sides, as there were a few city-traders in the bar, throwing money about like confetti.The place is immaculate, and the bar staff are great, but unless you are rich.. This isn't really the place to have a night out.

This wasn't my first time here but the last one exceeded my expectations on their service. I had ordered my lunch and had it delivered just in time even though the place was crowded. I'm glad I chose this time around to eat again here.

I booked a table for 7 for lunch on a Friday, and sure enough it was really busy as Friday lunchtimes generally are. We found our table and seated ourselves, got our own menus. Having noted down all the orders we went to the bar where we waited for service, during which we were acknowledged by the manager before he ran off to tend to technical issues, upon his return he had seemingly forgotten us and proceeded to serve others before us. When I raised this matter, incredibly frustrated, I was told that it's my fault because he asked who was next and someone spoke over me. I don't recall him asking who's next and failed to see why after ten minutes standing in one spot having previously been acknowledged, I was supposed to be aware he wasn't going to remember. But, sadly, I was informed again that it was my fault and in fact I'm not very nice for trying to dispute it. Actually I was nice enough to book in advance, to not grumble that we had no menus and to wait at the bar without complaint for ten minutes, able to see the staff were to few and working tirelessly. I think perhaps the issue here isn't whether or not I'm a nice person but whether or not the manage has really found his vocation.

I come here quite often as The Alice is very close to my office. It's a trendy place with nice atmosphere but often the service is slow (the place gets quite busy at times). They have a really decent menu and even have lunchtime specials with £6 mains, also 2-for-1 desserts Monday to Friday so you could end up paying less than what you usually would for a restaurant meal. Evenings tend to get really busy and takes ages to get served at the bar but I think it's a cool place to have a couple after work.

We booked a table for lunch but when we arrived, the kitchen was not working and so we were given a voucher for a complimentary lunch each. We went back about a month later and the offer was honoured. When we first entered the restaurant, it took a while for a member of staff to acknowledge us. Someone eventually escorted us to our table, which was a little uncomfortable to be honest as there were backless benches rather than chairs. I have a bad back and find it very difficult to sit too long without support, so for me the seating wasn't very practical. The whole process from start to finish.....ordering drinks, getting our drinks, ordering food, getting our food, asking for the bill, getting the bill......seemed so laborious! We were constantly waiting. The staff seemed very rushed and under pressure.It seems unfair to complain when the lunch was on the house, however, a good experience may have convinced me to go back again.......not saying I wouldn't go back but it wouldn't be my first choice.On the plus side, the food itself was nice, I particularly enjoyed the deep fried pickle that topped my very tasty Rueben sandwich. Also, it was very nice of them to have offered us a free lunch in the first place as they really didn't have to do that. They could've just offered us a free drink or a small discount.

I'm not sure why this bar has had so many bad reviews - my experience has always been very positive. I moved away from the Aldgate area early 2014 so things may have changed since then. Aside from the apparent short-comings regarding service and so on, this bar delivered some VERY good pizzas. Assuming they still include pizza on their menu and standards have been maintained then I would go there for their delicious pizzas alone.

A work group of 20 visited The Alice on Friday 27th March - We selected the venue to start our night due its proximity to London Liverpool Street, the layout of the venue, the price of drinks and the 241 promotion on cocktails. The bar was reasonably busy when we arrived and as it was 7:20pm (241 ended at 8pm), a number of us decided to buy 4 cocktails at once to ensure we benefited from the offer before it ended. After waiting at the bar for 15 minutes, we were eventually served by a number of frazzled bartenders clearly struggling with the demand for drinks. My four cocktails took 15-20 minutes to make as the server accidently dropped one on the floor, and when they were presented to me, the staff member said out loud that no one should order cocktails from him for the rest of the evening. While this was mostly said in jest, I don't think that is particularly professional and somewhat ridiculous for a bar that offers 241 on cocktails on a Friday evening. Sadly the cocktails I ordered were not mixed well and were rather disappointing, regardless of the promotion. Other staff members were also rude to people I was standing next to also waiting to be served/or waiting for their drinks to arrive. In total, I was standing at the bar for 30-35 minutes, which I think is unacceptable for a Friday evening when it was not that busy. While I can understand that perhaps they were understaffed that evening, staff members could have been apologetic or at least been polite. It is a shame as I really liked the layout, the music being played and the general ambience of the location. While it was reasonably priced, I would not expect to be waiting such a long time for four drinks to be made, and for them to be poorly made - I am glad I took the decision to order four, otherwise I would have spent the entire duration of our short time in The Alice at the bar patiently waiting. Overall, quite disappointing and this could have easily been a 4/5 review if staff members improved on their customer service and serving speed.

A Quiet Monday night we opted to try The Alice, as the Slug & Lettuce has closed. We went in, ordered food at the bar and waited and waited and waited...must have been approx 30 mins and a couple sitting just across from us had been served so I decided to pop to the bar to check on our order. There was one other person at the bar (approx 6 other groups in the whole place) and the 1 barman was very slowly making 4 cocktails. I waited patiently and once he served me I asked if he could advise when we can expect the food we ordered, he looked at my blankly and in broken English said "Oh you are by the window right, the kitchen must have forgotten you" when I surprisingly said "forgotten!!?" he said oh I mean got confused. He went off to check and I went back to my seat. We then sat for another 5 mins and as he hadn't bothered to come over to give us an update I went to the bar again. There was nobody waiting at the bar as it was such a quiet night so popping over to us really wasn’t an unreasonable expectation. He said "Oh they had forgotten but they are doing it now and it will be 3 minutes". I expressed that I was less than impressed but didn't say too much and just went and sat down to wait again.The same barman then finally brought over my bf's food only and slammed on the table, the whole time he made no eye contact and didn't say a word, he then wandered back with my food, again no eye contact and said nothing at all. Around 5 minutes later he was back again he slammed a gravy boat on the table in his usual no eye contact mute fashion. I cannot believe he didn't even have the courtesy to apologise or even acknowledge us. So so rude & unnecessary, how difficult is it to apologise and make light of it. I suspect he forgot to place the order with the kitchen as he seemed pretty spaced out when we placed the order.The food hmmm I had warmish chicken pie, cold mash and cold overcooked veg....needless to say first and last time!

Delicious cocktails (2 for 1 is definitely to my liking) and pretty good pudding. Affordable and with good atmosphere; I really enjoyed the music they play there.

As the Slug & Lettuce has closed we decided to give The Alice a second chance following my poor experience last time. However it was worse than before! It wasn't busy (Monday lunchtime) but nobody greeted us at the door. We seated ourselves and waited a few minutes, nobody came to the table to take our order. So one of us went to the bar to order the food and drink. Then we waited for a good 15/20 minutes until we had to go back to the bar to chase the drink order (we'd only ordered soft drinks so not as though we were waiting for complicated cocktails). It was at least another 10 minutes before the food arrived. I had the three cheese & leek pie with vegetables and chips. The pie was hot, with a really hard - partly inedible - crust but the chips were tepid and the veggies cold. They were also overcooked and limp. One of my fellow diners didn't get his mash with his meal, again we had to chase for this and it finally arrived - horribly presented (see pic) after he'd finished his pie. Just laughable!The food was half price as it was a Monday but even at that price it was poor value. Never again - they've even stopped serving Aspalls!
