The Alexandra in Merton

Quick stop off at the end of the afternoon, whilst awaiting a car being MOTed on Worple Road. Years since I last came here - much has changed, and it’s a very nice pub. Tomato juice and coke - totally pleasant. Nice to run into a female acquaintance whom I hadn’t seen for several years, who was now working here.

Great local pub. Good atmosphere, nice drinks served by lovely friendly staff. Cosy fireplace and comfortable seating. You can’t beat it. Super! 👌

I booked a table upstairs in The Loft for my birthday drinks and would definitely come here again! Communication when pre-ordering drinks and organising everything prior to the evening was great, as well as excellent service on the night. I accidentally left some birthday cards behind and the staff kindly kept them aside for me to collect the next day. A lovely pub - would highly recommend!

I was disappointed this time as I was told that they had a disco but there was all tables on the dancefloor and someone playing music from a laptop and nowhere to dance .

It was our 3rd Christmas party as a team there, the food has always been brilliant, he service great and the upstairs restaurant area was a nice atmosphere for our meal. The team are very accommodating and adjusted with numbers and requests whenever they came up. We would be happy to go every year, but we do like to change every so often, therefore it is a testament to them that we keep coming back after a different venue.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL Came with my friends for a Christmas lunch Asked to pay before we had even finished our food. I’m a Youngs pensioner and had a discount card which was totally ignored Many meals weren’t available. We were told to pay before our mains because the waitress was leaving however she was still there when we left. This was meant to be a Christmas celebration lunch for our pensioners club and it was so disappointing We will never come back again.

Food took a bit longer to come but was worth the wait!

The service was great. Big portions, lovely set table with our names. Friendly and attentive staff. I gave the food 4 stars because the syllabub was not great

The food was really really tip top, We had pork which was to die for , sausage n mash gravy on side and a beef roast all 5 🤩

I regularly visit this pub and am always impressed be the friendliness of the bar team, whoever is on duty. Good food and drink selection including non alcoholic beverages.

Walking into this beautiful, cosy pub the bar staff did warn me that they had the best food in town. They were not wrong. The food was incredible and I am yet to find another meal that was as tasty, fresh and filling as their food. The staff were lovely and welcoming and I look forward to heading back.

Saturday night very busy and loud. A large pub so lots of people. Had a DJ later on and moved the tables to make a dance floor. Was still busy at 1.00am

Brilliant sports bar that is much nicer inside than it looks from the outside.

Happy to take your custom, but be prepared for a reserved plaque to be put on your table after sitting there for an hr and told to leave at the time of reservation. What ever happened to going to a pub and enjoying a night out. Removed by the bouncers at the time.

Delicious Sunday lunch, beef was tender and cooked beautifully. Great atmosphere, busy vibe yet able to meet friends and catch up over lunch with great service.

We were a large group of new mums with prams and Larisa made sure there was plenty of space for us. Thank you!

The Alex is a warm and welcoming pub with brilliant food. We were a family of 4 plus a toddler and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back 👏.

We went to The Loft upstairs. Very delightful place although as a lover of traditional pubs the standing around waiting to be seated and table service killed the atmosphere for me. Not helped by the slow service. Would recommend if it changed the model to be a proper pub.

I was fortunate enough to have the most attentive lady looking after by the name of Bel. The perfect balance between professionalism as well as attentiveness and friendly. She was unfortunate enough to have me and my friend turn up on a Sunday after a big Saturday an looked after us in a way that made me feel ready for Monday. True asset to the company.

Pricy for what it is and food took over 45 minutes to turn up

Get your paws sticky and tuck into some great food and drinks. Loved the DJ night upstairs and great views and seating. Had my first best Bumble Date here ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

The Alex is an iconic pub and I live Wimbledon where I live . But apparently downstairs is not table service anymore . This is a PITA and correspondingly makes it even worse value than usual . 20£ for a decent burger TBH and cone of chips ; 10£ for a large house white and getting up and down to order - not worth it . Sort it out Youngs . Either it’s a pub or a restaurant at the moment it’s neither

Excellent service from bar staff. Can’t remember the (older) barman’s name, but he was fabulous at sorting us a table so we could enjoy the football match in comfortable seating with a table to chomp snacks close to the TV screens - brilliant! He was super friendly and helpfully reserved the spot for us the entire evening, so we stayed on and had a meal and drinks. The burger+chips and the leek+ham pie n mash were yummy! 😋 Great atmosphere, great service in comfortable surroundings. We’ll be back! 👍😁

Love this pub - The Alex has been a constant staple since moving here about 13 years ago. It's perfect for after work drinks in the courtyard, always lively atmosphere for the rugby or football, and they host lost of events. Great all-round local pub!

Wonderful pub for lunch with friends. Easy online booking and text confirmation. Changed numbers via a phone call with friendly and helpful members of staff. On the day the staff were attentive and responsive, and food was excellent. This was our second visit as the first had been just as good. Likely to become a regular place to meet.

It's probably the finest pub in Wimbledon, especially if you can get a table in the loft. It has friendly staff and a good selection of wines. Although the cocktails were slightly underwhelming, I’d still highly recommend it.

Fantastic pub with many rooms. Great for watching football and for not watching depend of time and mood. First floor room has fantastic vibe especially be site fireplace. Bars are every where at least four so always is quick and easy to order another pinte or glass of vine.

What a lovely pub. Don’t go to pubs very often anymore but we popped in for a Sunday roast and it was great, Josh really looked after us and the food was amazing, he even gave us extra gravy and Yorkshire puds for free. What a great place.

It's a pub in Wimbledon. Just a normal pub. But normal pubs are good. Nothing flash just a pub. A decent selection of beers & sport on TVs but not a sports bar feel, there for those interested, not intrusive for those not interested. Friendly place.

Our Roasts were really good tasty and plentiful. Service was abysmal I'm sorry to say. The pub was quite busy so this probably was a reason. There seemed to be only 2 girls serving. We sat down an waited for someone to come over. We had preordered roasts as they say they sometimes run out. Eventually we managed to order some drinks which again took a while. Our server looked over and realised we hadn't been served drinks. At no point were we asked if anyone had any allergies. Our Roasts appeared after about half an hour. No problem with that. Although first they brought up Pork which wasn't on our order. The food was lovely. Beef nice, no fat. Half a chicken well cooked. Great portions of vegetables too. And hot! The we waited for our server. And waited. Then finally she came over, took 2 of the plates and never returned for the rest of the table. So we sat and waited again. Nothing. No offering of a sweet, coffee etc. No asking at any point are you enjoying your meal or can I get you anything else. In the end I just asked for the bill and we left. It was a shame as we have always loved the Alex.

Lovely Sunday lunch and great service

I periodically venture into the Alexander when I’m feeling flush - or when I meet friends half way as I once lived in Wimbledon with the general menu of dishes costing £18-20 considered high! Wow over £18 for a haddock & chips was tasty but very short lived. The size of the hake presented noticeably shrunk in size ( half the size) I couldn’t help but make a polite comment to the staff member. My sister was shocked that I said anything to this- but after paying nearly £50 - I did expect a decent portion of fish. What I did notice now the plate was over filled with the twice cooked chips ( haha) enough for at least 2 people. They actual tasted at least old not crispy if you know what I mean ( three times cooked). Needless to say the staff member just said that was the size of the hake delivered. Well - I will not waste my money eating or drinking here again and next- time I will instead retreat to Wetherspoons where I know for £10 approx I can eat a nice portion of cod & chips with a free drink. Good bye and good ridden to rip of pub of the year!

The Alexandra Pub in Wimbledon is a true find—super cozy with a welcoming vibe and lovely locals! The fish and chips are spot on, and the sticky toffee pudding is a game-changer. Can’t wait to come back!

Brilliant atmosphere, great service, and the roast potatoes are to die for!

Used the pub for food rather than wanting a beer, there are bar and restaurant areas which are separated, the bar area has sky screens. I chose to eat in the restaurant area which was spacious and clean, the specials board had the more interesting meal choices. The food was good with main meals ranging between 13 and 20 pounds per person. Usual choice of drinks at the bar with the cask/ keg beers being main stream with Young's bitter on the hand pull.

Had a blast here with my pals. Nigel took care of us all night with some good laughs. Would come back for sure!

I had a (very successful) first date here not too long ago and was served by a lovely lady who goes by the name of Liv. She had the most radiant, positive energy and her hospitality was impeccable! She was so friendly and was great as my nerves were flying through me and felt good to speak to her! Would definitely come here again!

The tattooed goddess who goes by the name of Liv made my visit to the Alex a highly memorable (ish) experience. I could tell she was such a lovely person and so bubbly. She had an amazing vibe let alone her style. Will 100% be going again as she was so welcoming, polite very demure very cutesy. The angel deserves a raise. Sorted everything out for us! 5 star service from the girl.

We had a downstairs restaurant reservation for 4 people at 7pm on Thursday 26 September. When we arrived there were no tables available as the Alex was also hosting two leaving parties and was very busy. The bar staff helpfully managed to find us a table at the upstairs restaurant. However, the upstairs restaurant only served pizza and the supervisor refused to offer us the downstairs menu (even though that’s what we’d booked!). This really needs sorting out-either reserve tables in the downstairs restaurant for bookings, or serve the full menu upstairs. As we didn’t want pizza, we left and went to Bills instead.

I’ve always enjoyed a good pub lunch, but my recent visit to The Alexandra was elevated to something truly special by Lizzie, our server. From the moment we sat down, she struck the perfect balance between friendly and professional. Great selection of drinks also, and the Sunday roasts were delicious, highly recommend. We will be back!

This is a great community pub that caters for all types of people. It's Christmas initiative of a free meal for anybody spending the day alo is a huge success. The staff work hard and know the drinks and food menu properly. It's location is ideal and is worth a visit.

I came for a spontaneous chat with my brother. This is local hangout for me and I felt at ease as expected. Just a lot of people but otherwise great. I was able to have a clear conversation and the drinks were the same standard, as always. Always worth a visit.
