“Two Stars for Kindness, Zero Stars for Flavor” I’m giving two stars because the staff is super nice— Let me set the scene: we sit down, and there are two dirty glasses on the table. One even had someone else’s lipstick on it!. Then the Sunday roast arrived. For a second, I thought I had somehow lost my sense of taste. Panic set in—but nope, I wasn’t alone. Everyone at the table confirmed the same thing: the food was flavorless.. So yeah, two stars for the nice staff. But the food? It’s like they forgot to invite flavor to the party.

I’ve been coming to the Dog and Fox for years and usually the food and service is to a great standard. I visited this time with my elderly mum and niece and her new husband who had just recently returned from living in Australia for 7 years. Sadly today whilst the food was very good, the service was very poor and surly, so much so that when we left our waitress made us feel very uncomfortable. After ordering our food and drinks and the first round of drinks coming relatively quickly we had to wait about 50 minutes for our food to be served. From where we were sat we could see our food waiting under the hot lamps for a good 10 minutes and our waitress walked past it numerous times and was chatting to her colleagues instead of serving our food. Eventually a colleague collected our food and served it but the side of chips was missing and we had to chase this up. As we had waited so long we ordered another round of drinks when the food was served and again we saw the drinks waiting at the bar on a tray but our waitress appeared too busy just standing there chatting to a colleague to serve them to us. I was at the point of getting up and collecting the drinks myself when one of her other colleagues brought them over to us just as we finished eating. We decided against having dessert as the service was so poor and asked for the bill. When our waitress gave us the bill there was a discretionary service charge added to it and we decided that as service had been so slow and poor we were going to remove it. Our waitress did not come to collect payment, instead a colleague did and we politely explained that whilst the food was good our waitress hadn’t been and requested to remove the service which she did. Afterwards we saw her go and tell our waitress who then proceeded to give us death stares and muttered to her colleague about us. As we left she stared at us all the way to the door in a very surly way making us feel uncomfortable. As I said though the food was very good and this isn’t normal for the dog and fox and hope it was a one off incident, however I do hope some of you don’t receive the same waitress that we sadly got today.

Having lunch with friends and wanting to chat comfortably over a good meal. The Dog & Fox dining room is spacious enough to allow privacy but with a friendly atmosphere. Food is excellent, service ditto. Despite the booking being officially two hours we stayed three and were not hassled or pressured. A thoroughly enjoyable meal, in great surroundings with good company and good food. What more can you ask?

We popped in to watch the euro games the place gas at least 6 tv screens. as it was one of the closest pubs to wimbledon lawn tennis club and the one the locals recommended. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Food is good quality. I have found the menu a bit limiting but the food we ordered was fresh, tasty and well presented. Its a Youngs pub and hotel. They have a huge footprint. Several rooms and 3-4 or maybe 5 différent bars. They also have some outside space that is very popular all year around. It seems to be a hit with locals and tourists too. They had a dj dance party that Saturday I assume its a regular thing here. The place was busy all afternoon and got extremely busy after 10pm on this Saturday. Highly recommend it if you are in the area.

We had our wedding the Dog & Fox (in The Coach House specifically) at the beginning of April and I would thoroughly recommend anybody to have their wedding here. Not only was the venue beautiful and intimate, but the food was amazing (no stingy portions here!) and the staff were all excellent and super friendly. Nicki and Duncan, who both run the pub, were especially helpful and accommodating to all of our needs (and on multiple occasions, put any fears that my wife and I had at ease straight away). The hotel rooms on site were also beautiful, clean and cozy. Thanks to everyone there, we had the best day and everything ran smoother than we could possibly imagine, and we have had non stop compliments on the venue, staff and food. Even though the pub is not particularly local to us, we plan on being regular visitors as we loved everything about it so much. We are already booked in for the Wimbledon tennis in a few weeks time! 10/10, and if you’re put off by the parking, then don’t be as around the common and the surrounding roads, there is plenty of Ring Go parking available at a reasonable rate.

Had a lovely evening at my daughter's engagement party here. The evening was completely ruined by the pink haired "security" person, who tried to shoo people out the minute last orders was called and did not understand the concept of personal space or how to ask someone to leave!! It's a shame that she was not given any training in customer services and how to speak to people without causing offence. Especially for the amount of money that was spent on the occasion!! Please send her on a training course.

We went with friends for lunch at 2.45pm and finally received our main at 4.25pm. When it did arrive it was cold. We shared our issues with the server but this was met with in difference. With nothing off the bill or real concern shown our only cause of action was not to tip, which we always normally like to do where possible. The triple roast (a signature dish) meal was also made up of a small slither of beef, a piece of stuffing with a thin skin of chicken rapped around it, with only the pork remaining of ample size. An underwhelming experience.

Finally, A Sunday Roast that is actually a Roast! Had the trio of (roast) meats. Usually roasts can be old (and cold) but all the meats and veg were good, quality, portion and heat - esp roasties. Yorkshire's were a lovely size, some gravy on the plate but more needed. However, £27-28 for a roast is on the steeper side of life. A nice treat meal for sure. Place is HUGE! and can just be a casual pint if needed.

Great location and cosy interiors. I’ve tried the pub a couple of times and the one thing that has always let it down - behind the bar always seems ‘busy’ ; staff having a good bit of banter between themselves and enjoying each other’s company. There were four behind the bar last night, generally huddled together at one end. An occasional staff member would wander through. There were three of us stood at the bar. Eventually got served… there are lots of other pubs in the village. If you want a drink and are a regular a great place to go. If you are trying it for the first time and time isn’t on your side try another pub.

An absolute failure for a Sunday lunch. The prawn cocktail was bland and tasteless and we had to send it back. The roasts we had were dry, the veggie Wellington was served lukewarm, as was the cauliflower cheese (they apologised and offered a new one - as we were finishing our mains - that never came). The cheese plate portion was miniscule and bland. A £300 meal for four which was hugely disappointing. Sadly, this is Young’s now - nice venues, but terrible delivery. So disappointed. I booked a table for the France v Ireland Game a week before the event. I made a special trip into the Venue 6 days before my reservation to make a personal request for a specific table which is directly under the TV. The duty manager took me to the table to make sure he had the correct one, and entered my request into the book they kept at their Cash desk. On arrival, on time, on Friday 2nd February, the table I had booked and requested had been given to other guests. I spoke with the duty manager who proceeded to ignore my explanation and tell me that I had been booked on another table. There was no empathy, or apology, or even an offer of a drink to recover their mistake. I was made to feel that this issue was my fault. I rang the guests who were joining us and told them not to bother as the view from the allocated table was not very good. They subsequently went to the Rose and Crown opposite and called us to join them which we did. The service we received in the Rose and Crown was exemplary. I will be choosing that venue in future. So disappointed with the Dog & Fox. Its not how to treat customers.

Really really disappointing NYE experience in the pub where the closing time kept changing (apparently because staff wanted to go home early as the pub was emptier than expected). Security on the door gave one closing time so we staggered our drinks according to that, but that closing time was then pushed back by an hour and we were being hurried to leave despite having full drinks! Music was turned off 30 min before the “new” closing time which left the pub in silence and the security and manager reminded us every 5 minutes to finish our drinks and leave - real dampener on what is a special night for all. Really awful experience and atmosphere. I understand everyone’s keen to get home to their families, but then please don’t sign up for the NYE shift. Complete different experience to the Rose and Crown which was fab on NYE. Been to the Dog and Fox many many times before and it’s been fine (better food available from rival pubs but nice atmosphere previously), but this was an experience which left such a bad taste, I don’t plan to return. Editing this review to add response: The manager in charge on NYE informed us at around 12.30pm that the closing time had been moved to an earlier time due to not being as busy as planned (after we had purchased full round of drinks!). If Dog & Fox management is confused, suggest consulting with her/your staff working on NYE or watching CCTV.

I booked a room for my Mum to stay over Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and was thoroughly disappointed. We were informed that there would be no breakfast on Christmas Day and instead a box of cold breakfast items would be provided. Since we needed gluten free for this, the box had an apple, a yoghurt and a couple of mediocre pastries. If you’re going to charge full price for a room and sell it on the basis that a cooked breakfast is included, then you better make sure the replacement is of a high standard and it was not. The breakfast offered the following morning wasn’t hugely better. We would have been better off visiting one of the local cafes like Demitasse. The room itself was lovely and spacious, but the fan in the bathroom ran all night long. My Mum had to call the night porter who said other rooms were complaining of the same issue. The second night of sleep was better, but on both mornings the Nespresso maker in the room was broken and didn’t work. We asked for it to be replaced on Christmas morning and the porters suggested we contact the management for some sort of refund for an unsatisfactory experience. To be fair, as local residents, we won’t be recommending that friends or family stay in the future for an over priced stay that wasn’t up to par.

Currently digging through my freezer trying to salvage some meal together after coming to the dog and fox today for our Christmas lunch. After waiting almost two hours for mains which arrived reheated crud clearly from yesterday’s Sunday roast, it’s a wonder why it took so long when it wasn’t fresh. Pre orders made months ago, times booked in months ago. Everbody acting like it’s their first day. Chaos. I appreciate some type of busyness and delays but it wasn’t pleasant for any of my family when it was also rude inattentive service. Seeing pics from other peoples Xmas meals out has made me realise how awful ours was and our day was completely ruined. Gorgeous atmosphere in the dining area. The other way is usual pub which seemed fun. The plant based burger was awesome but can’t say the same for gnocchi(below average). The staff was super kind, no need to say any words for the location.

Disappointing Departure from established quality of food under New Management. table next to us ordered fish and chips which reeked like urinals and made the experience even worse. The menu, has been modernised in a way that strips the dishes of their classic charm - by Adding 5 spices to everything, and sweet chill sauce. For starters I have ordered buttermilk prawns that came with oriental sweet chilli flavours that were incredibly spicy - menus have no warning of this. For Mains I ordered roasted Chicken breast potato terrine which had sorry excuse for a gravy with 5 oriental spices. Absolute disaster. The portions are incredibly small. Paid £21 for half a chicken breast with three terrines which resembled Spanish omelette and two broccoli’s. Lit made me livid. Traditional atmosphere it once guaranteed gone. Beautiful setting and interior, but it’s always been the case with this place. And staff though are formally nice The old staff made the pub a home. The only thing remained unchanged is bottle coke.

We had a most enjoyable function at the hotel for the local business association. I stayed the night and had a wonderful room. A perfect evening and a lovely venue.

Very comfortable, well organised & friendly venue. Room was clean and had everything one would need. Service was good and delivered with a smile. Nice people to be around. Only area for improvement would be the Young's app for room service. Not quite fit for purpose, yet.

We just arranged to meet someone here, so we didn't try the food or service. However, it was very cosy with its open fire and warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Service ok - but stressful when our telephone booking (with confirmation) was non-existent at reception. The actual server was erratic - suspect that was known. Food not so good, but edible so 2 stars not one. The duo heritage pork was tasteless, with very, very poor crackling. The cauliflower cheese was awful, tasted as if being cooked in an uncleaned oven - that horrible residual taste. The ‘Yorkies’ were enormous, but poor in taste. The ‘sausage duvets’, which were first described by the server as sausage rolls (actually pigs in blankets sliced thinly), had favour. Although the creamed celeriac was lovely, as were the roast potatoes. For my (extensive) taste, the coffee was seriously bitter. I have had better, and much cheaper, meals at a Wetherspoons!!! A shame, because the location is fabulous, and dogs are welcome - my dog did VERY well out of my meal!

Popped in whilst visiting our son who lives locally. Great service and good choice of drinks for us to have. Tasting of beer was offered and the selections were enjoyed and despite us only going to be staying for one, we stayed for three. Didn’t eat on this visit. Sky was being installed and this will be great addition to the pub. We drank our beer, played some games and felt very comfortable in a traditional but modern pub. Well done to the landlord.

The Alex is a warm and welcoming pub with brilliant food. We were a family of 4 plus a toddler and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back 👏.

While it is a bit more expensive than other places we always eat here when in London. My family had the Sunday roast which was very good and not too expensive and I had the beautiful afternoon tea. It was lovely and a great experience.

We went to the Casuarina Tree restaurant. It was a nice place. Their food was amazing and very tasty. Rithma and Avishka served us. They were very friendly with us. Their service was excellent.
