The Cod and chips was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before….unfortunately not in a good way. I’m not sure what it was they served me but it certainly wasn’t cod!! It was tough and chewy and I left nearly all of it. As the man behind the counter explained to me “we’re not a fish and chip shop” and how right he was.

After getting a crab sandwich we stopped to get a portion of chips from here where the gentleman was telling us how bad our choice was to get our sandwich from his competitor expressing that it wasn’t fresh local crab And demanding to know how much we paid and to look at it so he can judge! After us explaining that we were excited about our food and asking him not to ruin it for us he kept explaining and I quote “I know what fresh crab is and that isn’t it” It’s sad to see such negativity between local shops!

It was possibly the good weather. It could have been the beautiful scenery. It may have been simply because I was with my favourite (adult) person but this really was a treat. Fish and chips were perfect and the guy serving couldn't have done more to ensure we had all we wanted. There's scaffolding at the front and it's lacking in kerb appeal but this is well worth a try .... I'm glad we did.

As the name alcove suggests - the shop itself is not very large - the seating is all outside along the seafront. As well as fish they also have burgers and a reasonably full menu of things of this kind. Rather than wait in the small shop they give you one of those numbered devices that flash lots of red lights and vibrates when your meal is ready - allowing every meal to be freshly cooked to order without the shop filling up.

We primarily chose the Alcove because unlike other f & c shops near the beach in Lyme there was plentiful outdoor seating for us as a family of four. 'The Alcove' at Lyme Regis is located overlooking the beach, with great views along the coast and out to sea. It has outdoor seats and tables, with sunshades, so worth stopping for a drink or snack. We had the traditional fish and chips, which were very filling. Please though if you have any leftovers Do Not feed them to the seagulls which will be around. Feeding them is inadvisable, and in my opinion should be illegal, as this makes them very aggressive. While we were there we saw them steal an ice cream from a toddler, and a sandwich from a teenager! Watch them if you sit outside, but if you put the cafe's sun parasols up, this not only gives you shade but prevents the gulls from flying in on your meal.

This little cafe on Marine Parade in the picture perfect sea side of Lyme Regis is so convenient to sit and eat overlooking the sensational view, advertising fresh cooked fish and chips we could not resist. How I wish we had! We had looked for a takeaway chippy, but seemed very overpriced. We were just going to get a cream tea from here (wish we had done that too now I've read the reviews), but saw the fish and chips they were serving and decided to order. When they say made to order they mean it. Order taken (no picking cod, haddock etc, its fish and chips). Given a timer which will sound when the order is ready. We were sat near the café and could see the guys cooking it fresh for us. No need to collect, before the timer went off the order was brought straight to the table. I usually find the smell and thought of fish and chips never live up to reality. Not in this case. Lovely dry crisp chips and battered fish. I usually pick the batter off (gosh I'm fussy), but not this one, both thin and crisp - infact I could hear it crunch. Fish that tasted like fish and not water. Gorgeous. Couldn't eat all the chips, and luckily the parasols kept the seagulls off (unlike the icecream I nearly had later) Would highly recommend. Fish and chips the way they should be and at £6 a head a bargain.

The pasties are great, the staff are helpful and friendly and it's all topped off by the stunning sea views. Would definitely go back here if I return again!

A spur of the moment to leave the A35 and have supper in Lyme. Lovely sunny evening and fish and chips overlooking the beach. Not the best fish and chops ever but reasonably priced, friendly service and lovely setting.

Later in the day passed this takeaway on the sea front and after seeing one of the staff carry a portion of chips to a customer sat outside, they looked nice and crispy. So ordered fish & chips with mushy peas for a takeaway at £6.Now whilst all cooked to order the chips and peas were average, however the fish was below par.I personally will be trying some where else the next time in town.

We were looking for some fish and chips one sunny bank holiday and decided to try this place. Decision was made solely on the fact that they served them in boxes, as we wanted to walk along to the far beach and f & chips in paper go soggy quicker! The fish and chips are cooked to order and were good value, you even get complimentary ketchup and tartare sauce which was a nice touch I thought. Service was friendly, and there were a few table and chairs overlooking the sea, but the promenade was busy so we ate ours on the beach. The chips seemed to be made of frozen chips, but despite this they were quite nice, though hubby and children enjoyed them more than me. The fish looked to be also of the pre-formed frozen type, so I wasn't expecting much, but it was very nice. The fish tasted lovely and fresh and the batter was very crispy. Hubby said it was the crispiest batter he had ever had. Even the kiddies liked the fish, which was unusual for them. I would say it was very 'kiddie friendly' fish and chips!

We wandered into the Alcove for pasties as a way of experiencing the local fare. The pastry was excellent and the portions were good size. Freshly prepared chips added to the quality of the meal. Cheese and onion, vegetable and steak pasties all proved to be good and very reasonably priced. If one enjoys ice-creams (which we definitely do) the specials in the hatch next door were definitely worth a try. The current flavor from the local dairy farm- stem-ginger may not be everyone's favorite but it is one of the most unique desserts that I have had. Wasn't quite sure of the softy ice quality. Attached to the alcove is a shop for keepsakes that are reasonably priced with friendly staff in all three sections.

We heard from a local about good cornish pasties in the area so decided to explore and came across this place. Had choice of Steak, cheese and onion and vegetable pasties. Between us we tried all of them. Pasties were really good and would recommend trying it.There is plenty of seating outside looking at the beach, no indoor seating. They do have choices of sandwiches, baguettes etc.

Really good food, served very quickly. Amazing seat right on the sea front. Watch out for the seagulls though, they will have that delicious pasty away! Good chips, and crab sandwich, freshly made to order. Happy staff, what a shame it is not a full restaurant!

We have visited The Alcove three times, it is a small place on the sea front, you can have take-away or sit overlooking the sea. We really enjoyed their pasties and the best chips I've had for ages. Very clean, the staff are very friendly and make sure your food is piping hot, nothing is too much trouble. If you want a snack, tea, ice cream or lunch this is an excellent place.

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

It had been too long since we ate here. We had a great meal, shared a starter and a pudding as one of had steak and the other the carvery for main course. All very tasty and well presented. It was busy but the staff were there when we needed them. Thoroughly recommend The Sun for a good meal.

A neighbour recommended this pub. We turned up without a booking, and despite being busy, they found us a table. Prompt service, great food, really nice ambiance. What more is there to say! What a great pub!
