The Alchemist Bevis Marks in City of London, Westminster

Went for the theatre of the cocktails and were a little disappointed that the bar is hidden behind a screen (not as shown in website photos) so you only get to see what you have ordered but we were pleased with what we tried. we have several different cocktails and all were great fun but they are pricey. okay for a special treat... but not sure the experience lived up to our expectations. in summary - Staff okay, atmosphere just okay (a little dark to be honest) and cocktails fun but pricey. Would maybe try alchemist again but not this one.

Very cool cocktail bar with a huge selection of different creations that are not only damn tasty but in most cases also absolutely something to look at. The ambience is super nice and invites you to linger. Had dinner there once too, unfortunately the food was quite a disappointment compared to the cocktails. Very boring and at best average in terms of quality and taste.

Good Food, free sparkling water and good drinks. We like to come again, when London is calling. Perhaps I will visit Berlins Alchemist.

We had heard a lot about this chain and decided to go in for dinner. The place is huge and has a great atmosphere. The Alchemist is known for their eclectic collection of cocktails and they did not disappoint. They have a good collection of cocktails and their presentation is spot on. The food menu is not too bad but could have been better. And the food was nothing to rave about. My recommendation is to go to this place for the cocktails as they won’t disappoint

As usual the drinks and atmosphere at the Alchemist were excellent. Go to drinks were the caramelised jungle bird and breakfast manhattan (pipe dream was tasty but a little strong and didn't include the described cookie). Nibbles of nori crisps and hot honey popcorn were an excellent accompaniment. Definitely a reliable and enjoyable evening spot.

Not the most efficiently run bar ive ever seen. Drinks are quite nice though so might be worth waiting 20 mins for your drink if youve got nothing else planned for that night

Lewis the tattooed bartender was amazing, extremely friendly and knew his stuff about all the drinks, would highly recommend a lovely place for chill but fun drinks! Will be returning

My cousin and I visited the Alchemist, Bevis Marks, 5th March 2024, I was raving about the cocktails, so she had look them up before we arrived. Food was lovely, we both had the smoking board, one chicken, one steak and shared, both were very good. Loved the cauliflower bites, nice and spicy. I had told her about the Hipflask Margarita, so we were Extremely disappointed when we were told there was no Margarita!!! Extremely puzzled!!

Having previously enjoyed the cocktails in the bar we thought we would book a table in the restaurant for our daughter's birthday. We arrived a little early and grabbed a cocktail in the bar which was brilliant. Then we went to our table. The food was OK but the service was poor, Our initial server was really good and gave good advice but then he went on a break and we weren't sure who was looking after our table. We tried to attract the attention of passing waiters but they seemed to be looking up and not down at the tables. No one came to see if we wanted more drinks (which we did). We had starters and mains but they were not very quick at clearing the table after either course, We knew we had the table for an hour and a half and our time was coming up but as there were other tables around us who were there before us we thought we'd be OK. We weren't offered desserts and tried several times to order more drinks. They then came and said they would need to have the table back. We asked to order more drinks which we did but were told we would have to take them to the bar. 20 mins later the drinks or bill hadn't arrived. At this point the manager came over and apologised that the order hadn't been put through. He did take one of our drinks off the bill. I pointed out about other tables still being in the restaurant who had been there before and he gave some excuse about rotation of tables. I could understand if the other groups were bigger groups but there was another group of 3 women. Eventually our drinks arrived and we moved to the bar. There were no tables available so had to stand. When going to toilet half an hour later I noticed that not only were the group of 3 girls still there enjoying their drinks but no one was sat at our table. We would have had more drinks but left and went elsewhere. Overall a disappointing end to the evening.

The manager didn't seem to be interested even to speak to anyone to clarify the situation. Eventually we asked if we can sit downstairs at one of the sofas. He said yes, but when we went down we noticed that actually someone is sleeping there drunk.. We left the place feeling like this was total disaster. I do not recommend.

It was okay. I ordered the steak since I didn’t want the Christmas turkey, but the steak way too tough to eat. I didn’t bother requesting a new one as I was hungry at this point. It wasn’t worth the extra ££ to get the steak. For the turkey that my friends had, it was just fried turkey on a basket. Overall, the experience was very disappointing.

Iv been to a different Alchemist and it really wasn't a good experience. Very awkward. This on the other hand was a completely different experience. It was like a completely different company. I was pleased to see a menu and great service with people who knew what a cocktail was. Definitely worth going to this one and the only one I will be going to.

Perfect experience! The cocktails were superb and were paired excellent with the food. All the staff was very helpful and friendly. Gluten free was also no problem. My only issue was how loud it was. There was a dj at the front, we were at the back part of the restaurant, but still it was a constant 90 db, we had to yell to talk. Congrats to our waitress, it was her last training day!

Whoever is training the staff has done a great job. One of the best service teams I have seen. Hope they are financially motivated. Thumbs up, this is an amazing place. The food, drinks and athmosphere are top! Keep it up!

Alchemist never fails to impress with its mesmerizing ambiance and theatrical drink presentations. My second visit to a different branch was just as brilliant as the first. An experience not to be missed in London's bar scene.

Came in today. Only ended up staying for one drink. We ordered a strawberry daiquiri and a Amaretto sour. The amaretto sour was lovely. The daiquiri was like a soggy strawberry iced mocktail. I paid for an alcoholic one. I tried it, my other half tried it, both unimpressed. Clearly no alcohol in it, so I brought it back. I explained to the very unimpressed bar man. I explained that it wasn’t exactly what I had ordered. He turned to me and said.. you picked it. Face of thunder. I explained I didn’t mean to offend him but this daiquiri didn’t taste like anything. I asked to change it as he clearly thought it was just my choice in drinks. I stood at the bar for a good 10/15 mins before my drink arrived to me as my other half finished his at the table. It wasn’t overly busy but there was only two people serving. The guy dealing with me (who made the original drink) was taking orders and also making previous orders. I honestly feel like he was clearly doing too much and forgot to even add the alcohol. I understand that he was busy but there is no need to be the way he was and I feel like he should have a course in costumer service. I’m not usually a complainer but this really didn’t sit well with me.

A lovely restaurant with a nice trendy atmosphere, however it is quite dark in there. The service was fantastic and very quick. Our starters were delicious, would definitely recommend the pork crackling. My main was a steak sandwich, which was okay but could have had more filling. The drinks are spectacular, however not the cheapest which we expected. I would come back here again.

The chicken basket was a little bland but overall a fantastic night. All starters were good and flavoursome.The cocktails were good, the waiter was super knowledgeable and went out of his way to take us through everything. A fun time was had! I would recommend this place definitely

I work at the City of London and I live close as well so I have been a few times to The Alchemist Bevis Marks and the one in Canary Whard. I am always impressed with how polite and smiley are the waiters and waitresses. Great cocktails and an amazing atmosphere. The food is more than good considering it is not a restaurant. I recomment chicken in a basket and their bao buns.

The alchemist certainly has been a busy cocktail extravaganza site. The question is does the food enhance the overall experience? Answer - decently surprising. The chicken in a basket is a winner, amongst snacks, the glaze does amaze! The steak sandwich is below par, slightly dry and lacks flavour. The fish curry was above par. In whole very pricey lacking a punch. Service by Brendan was delightful, recommended staff member! The decor is beautiful with private booths, comfy seats and captivating lights, making for a great evening!

Enjoyed the cocktails here. Go for the drinks with theatrics for the x factor, but those are not very strong. Bold and boozy is a better category if you're liking for US-like cocktails.

Food was good not great, small portions. Drinks were good for an instagram picture, but not balanced well. Bar was sticky and had confetti on it, inattentive service. One of our dishes never came out, when I asked the bartender about it, he said they were out of the ingredients so we were never charged for it, but I think they should have told us so we weren’t just waiting there while he was practicing pouring water into a cocktail glass. I did the math regarding the missing food item, and there was still another €5 on the bill that I could not account for. I think we were still charged for this item, because I had already factored in the 10% that I tipped them. Also found it strange that he immediately charged us after ordering and then left the card reader at our table for 30 minutes, instead of letting me ask for the bill at the end of the meal.

This is a great brunch option, if all you care about is Instagram. Nice setting, although it was empty. Cocktails did look impressive, but tasted strange and unpleasant. I ordered the chicken waffles, and without exaggeration, the dish was so dry it was pretty much inedible. It was the most dry thing I have eaten, they warn you about the dry ice, but the real issue here was the dry food. It was dreadful. But like I say, if all you really care about is posting nice pictures of fancy cocktails on Instagram, then come here.

The overall is very distinct drinks that are fun and whimsical. Drinks are good but nothing really magical. Food was good, not great. Wouldn't really go back.

Die Bedienung war sehr nett und aufmerksam. Das Essen war sehr lecker, reichlich und wurde rasch serviert. Der Kaffee hatte leider kein Muster im Schaum. Sehr empfehlenswertes Restaurant.

Don't eat the tongue in the french kiss! Hahaha. Fantastic bar. The drinks are extremely entertaining. I'm not really one for spending on this type of thing but I was thoroughly impressed. The snacks were also delicious. Thanks for a fabulous night.

Have always wanted to come here and popped in one Saturday afternoon. The cocktails themselves were lovely and I was surprised by how reasonably priced they were. However, the barman was possibly the most miserable barman I have ever met. It wasn’t just us, every single person next to us at the bar commented on how miserable and unfriendly he was. He wasn’t the only one, all of the staff looked and acted as miserable as sin.. obviously not a fun place to work was our interpretation.. My advice.. If you’re going to work with the public, smile once in a while.

Took absolutely ages to get our food. 1 guy serving a party of 40 people! And no offer of bread, olives, anything while we were waiting. Its a Christmas party, guys, shape up!

Went for a couple of drinks, was empty at 21.05, security guard told us we had to have a reservation to the empty bar... We made a reservation, the soonest reservation we could make was 21.30 as they were booked out in 30 increments....he told us to come back for a booking in, at this point 20 minutes time!! Like it's a Wednesday night, they were empty all evening according to their booking platform... How does this work! In other words, I am sure the bar was amazing, as all the alchemist bars in the past have been, but management really needs to deal with their security (especially the one working at 9pm on 6/12/23) because they are hemouraging you money!

We went for the cocktails, which were excellent as one would expect - and not too ridiculously priced for this part of London. However, the food really surprised us. It was all absolutely excellent, and the menu was so delicious we struggled to decide! In the end we shared lots of starters, and all ordered different mains, so I think we covered much of it. Service was really very attentive indeed, and we had several waiters who were all funny and accommodating. We will 100% be back!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but here we are. First time in London from Dublin, The food was ok, drinks was great. Dj could be better. The bouncers on the other hand made us feel so welcomed and so polite. The bigger bouncer was probably one of the most nicest and hilarious bouncer we’ve ever met. Overall experience was great.👍

Fun place to eat and drink with many different cocktails to choose from. Cocktails are pricey but it’s a nice experience for a special occasion. We got a drink at the bar before being seated. Service is slow. They definitely need more bar staff especially when making cocktails. I had chicken in a basket which was a good size portion and I thought reasonably priced. My partner had a steak which was £30 and small. I thought this was over priced. It was served with nothing as all sides are an additional cost. I had to ask twice for a drink I ordered which was a little annoying. It’s not a cheap night but the cocktails make it fun and different if you are looking for an alternative place to drink.

Superbe bar ! Les cocktails sont excellents et surtout originaux avec une présentation (et verre) différent entre chaque cocktail. Je recommande pour tous les amateurs de cocktails ! PS : 5* pour celui de Bevis Marks, cependant celui de St Martin Lane ne dépasserai pas les 3*. L'ambiance et les serveurs laissent à désirer à St Martin Lane, donc si vous deviez tester un Alchemist, privilégiez celui de Bevis Marks !

Unfortunately I had a horrible experience with my boyfriend at The Alchemist during our anniversay. As we both specialise within the scientific field, we felt this would be a fab experience. However, when we tried to enter on Saturday night (11/11/2023) the taller bouncer at the door was patronising asking us “how many drinks have you had tonight?” I found this extremely rude not to mention unfair considering we were out shopping and exploring on our day off and hadn’t had an opportunity to get a drink. We also wanted to hold off and let the first drink be a “magical” one from the Alchemist. Confused as to whether he was being patronising because we are Irish? Does the alchemist ask every Irish person this?? My boyfriend answered “I’ve had 2” despite having none as he knew the bouncer wouldn’t believe him if he said none due to the tone he had used. The other bouncer seemed to be alright as he embarrassingly laughed it off and said “that’s not enough”. I asked the patronising tall one “why does that matter?”He said “we need to monitor the levels of drink inside” pretty sure the levels of drink are depend on how much is consumed inside not just what’s had before? If that was the goal, why didn’t he stand at the bar.. when we got in I couldn’t enjoy my night after. We had 2 drinks and left, really ruined our anniversary:( I wouldn’t bother going here if you’re celebrating anything or irish

I was there with my friend on Friday and it was my first time I was there. I had a good atmosphere there in this place. Moreover, there service is really good and the drinks are just amazing

Being a fan of the Alchemist in general I was looking forward to our dinner. On arrival we had to ask for drinks menus which in a cocktail place you would think was a standard thing you might want to look at!! I ordered a beer in the end because it took so long to get a cocktail menu by which time I couldn’t be bothered to go through the list!!! The staff couldn’t be less interested in attending to us!! Every time we wanted something we had to get someone’s attention and interrupt them talking between themselves!! I won't be going to this branch again!!

The Alchemist at Bevis Marks was very spacious and has two floors. I do love the atmosphere, and the aesthetic over all. What I highly recommend to drink: Cosmic oysters - double shot of green goodness with citrus caviar Smoky old fashion The legal one You can’t go wrong with any drinks that you choose their especially their signature drinks if you want something theatrical, I would recommend The Mad Hatter it’s a drink, shared for two people and can be quite strong. What I recommend to eat: Whipped bur-natta - very creamy. The other items we tried: Calamari - salty and crunchy Duck pancakes - nice appetizer, perfect for two people. When we arrived, it was quite slow during that day on Sunday, so I recommend going on a time where it’s busier and bustling. We had drinks at another location St. martins and I really loved the atmosphere there too.

Overall, we had a lovely time here and the cocktails do live up to their hype! We went for the Mad Hatter, which is a fun cocktail for 2, including gold glitter and loads of smoke. We also got two more cocktails afterwards - I cannot remember what my friend got, but I got the Jaffa Cupcake one. It came in an edible cup and was kind of like a dessert + cocktail in one, so I enjoyed it. In terms of value of money, we both thought the cocktails are priced fairly, especially given the theatrical aspects of the experience. However, we found the food a bit disappointing - we had the picanha steak smoking board and it wasn't anything special. The steak was so rare, it was unpleasantly chewy, and it wasn't well spiced at all. I found most of what was on the board to be quite bland to be honest, but we aren't fussy eaters, so we ate as much of it as we could. Service was friendly and the place is very classy otherwise. I would still recommend to anyone in the area for an interesting cocktail experience!

Ah amazing place, atmosphere, great food (not crazy dear) with attentive staff. Went there just before Halloween and it was dressed in themed decorations with themed limited cocktails.. try the French kiss cocktail if you like a good tonguing 😎😂 would recommend.

Where food is more of an after thought here, having only a limited menu, it is the specialty drinks that you really come here for. More of a spectacular experience than a hardy one, you'll want to bring out your inner photographer for some of these masterpieces. The friendly and skilled staff helped make the experience a fond memory, and the misses and myself will be back again

Amazing Atmosphere to chill with a great choice of lip smacking cocktails. Warm cocktails are the worst but the cold ones are the best . The food is great but very less options for vegans and vegetarian . The service was amazing . Would definitely recommend friends and colleagues to visit this pub and restaurant.

The Alchemist hat es geschafft eine etwas andere Bar zu schaffen. Angefangen von der Einrichtung, der Getränkekarte und den speziellen Drinks. Die etwas andere atmosphäre und die gute Bedienung. Würde ich jedem empfehlen der London besucht.

The drinks were very creative and you can definitely find something you'll like. The onion rings were delicious however the chicken was extremely extremely salty. Could not eat at all. Service was a little slow so we had to wait quite a bit between drinks.

Trevlig och trendig bar med spektakulära cocktails. Passar även bra för att bara slinka in på en öl på väg från jobbet, även om ölutbudet inte är så stort. Vänskaplig personal och bra stämning.

Wir sind wegen der Cocktails hingegangen. Leider konnten wir sie nicht probieren, da wir trotz wenig Kundschaft und 3 Barkeepern nicht bedient wurden. Nach 30 Minuten Wartezeit sind wir dann gegangen. Von einer Cocktailbar erwarte ich nicht, an der Bar zu bestellen. Zudem würde dadurch der "theatre" Effekt zu Nichte gemacht werden...

What a lovely place. Was in last night. Food, wine and staff were really fantastic. Steak sandwich is the best.

Went here with a group from work, for drinks and food. Bar staff were rude and dismissive. I asked for a cider to be met with roars of laughter from the bar man, it went down hill from there. Clearly still in business by name and not reputation. You get a much warmer welcome from the local type pubs in the area.

One of the coolest drinks I've had so far! Nice atmosphere, nice burguer but not really special chicken in a basket. The theatre on presenting the drinks and the fact that it it's very tasty would definitely make me come back.

Came for a well earned cocktail before our trip home on daughters birthday outing as hadnt had a drink all afternoon & was hot & bothered. Purchased two cocktails & Loaded Fries which were £5.75 , nice but tiny portion & to make matters worse charged £3.28 to bring to the table with no mention of this when i ordered them would have stopped off at Mcdonalds as only wanted a snack. Cocktail was just fruit juice as far as I could tell so for 2 drinks & fries £29.53 bloody rip off !! Shall think twice in future. What a dissapointment.

Rude staff - made us feel very unwelcome.

Came here for some drinks and catch up with a friend. It all looked great online but the DJ was so insanely loud we literally could not hear each other. Like, literally shouting to talk. Easily as loud as being in an actual club, which kind of pointless if you’re actually planning to speak to anyone while you’re there. Just weird tbh. We left within 5 minutes to find somewhere else.

No atmosphere during weekend due to location. Cocktails are good and reasonably priced.

Met a lovely bar lady today, was very helpful and approachable when I was unsure what drink to get. A big thank you to Tasha, we will definitely be coming again!

Wow!! What an experience, restaurant has a great vibe and clearly a popular meeting place for workers in The City. The cocktails are truly amazing, lots of smoke and mirrors, the food fresh & tasty, service brilliant, can definitely recommend it.
