Called in hoping for a meal and a drink, but considering this is Tuesday January 7th it was no surprise that the kitchen was closed. I had heard great things about the food, but I guess that will have to wait til our next visit. However, Ben, the excellent bar tender suggested that we go next door but one to a takeaway and bring it back to eat at The Albert, which is what we did. The Albert is definitely a pub that I would recommend, and Ben is an excellent host.

Visited a few times when visiting Scarborough for the weekend as was across road from our accomodation. Bonus hand pulled ale available, although limited, but a good pint. Bar staff lovely and fiendly. Had Sunday lunch which was spot on.

We came back here October 2024 for 4 nights having enjoyed our stay the previous year. Having been told that we should not come down for breakfast until after 8.30am we were getting ready at 8.45am when we had a knock on the door and was asked rather sharply by the landlady if we were coming down for breakfast or not. We came down straightaway to find our breakfast was reheated and only the eggs were freshly cooked. We were the only guests staying. The night before we were going home (a Monday night) we were kept awake by the landlady singing kareoke until 4.30am. It was so loud that we could hear the words to "Landslide by Fleetwood Mac" word for word. The next morning we went down for breakfast at exactly 830am, feeling extremely tired, to find that the bar area was locked and in complete darkness. No breakfast dishes laid out as obviously nobody was up. We didn't see anyone as we checked ourselves out using the back door and left the keys. We went to a local cafe for breakfast before driving home. I don't know what has happened between our last visit and this one but the service has definitely gone down. Great as a pub and the meals are great but I wouldn't stay here again.

Great staff ,some are!! Disgusted that my regular visit was greeted with ridicule and antipathy on the 27th of February 2024 simply because I have COPD and coughing!!!

Stayed last night after a snowy journey to Whitby over the moors. Proper little pub, very friendly. Nice to see a pub with a fair few people in at 4.30 as we arrived. Lovely food at the evening and for breakfast. Great location a mile or so out of Whitby just off the road to Scarborough. Rooms absolutely fine. Shepherd huts at the rear if you like that kind of thing.

Popped in for a pint as one of the pubs i hadn't yet visited in Whitby. Can see it's popular with the locals. Friendly staff and a canny atmosphere.
