Excellent spot to have great advise on which scotch whiskey to choose and the fish and chips is the best!! We also took the pie, it was succulent!

I miss working here. Does Sandy & Piggy still work in the kitchen? Is the bottom shelf, of the 3 glass shelves around the chimney still have a different colour? I'm the reason for that...

Staff is great, atmosphere is good and the food delicious! Just like the White Hart in they ask you upfront about allergies which is good. A plate full is what you get and a big smile from the staff. Thank you!

Went in, spoke to the bar staff asking if the back was open as we wanted to order food. Was told to go along to the guy with the half checked shirt. He motioned us to follow him (no hello, nothing) and he attempted to put us at a tiny little cramped table between people where there was no room to even move the chair out from the table. So we moved to one of the many perfectly good spacious tables. We looked through the menu, decided what we would order and then folded up the menu and waited to be served. At this point we hadn't been offered drinks or any pleasantries. We looked outside for a bit, still no service We tried to see if anyone would catch eyes with us, still no service I checked if they had an app to order, wasn't working. I got up and wandered to the bar to see him standing, chilling, chatting away Overall we waited about 35 minutes with not one person coming up to our table. Got up and left and went to a wetherspoons and as we left he looked at us with annoyance Not sure what we done to deserve that type of service but it is the worst I've had in Edinburgh and it's my 2nd experience of terrible service in this place.

We had tasty meals here between visiting the Edinburgh dungeons and Edinburgh Castle. Staff were friendly and we were served by the lovely Mekedes.

We were in Edinburgh for only a week and came back for a second time for the food and obviously some Scotch.

The food is very good, we will not deny it. However, the attention of one of the three people who served us almost made our last night in Edinburgh a bad experience. We entered with a girl, they explained to us that we should order food and that we had to leave before 9 pm, which we understood and accepted due to the restriction in pubs, however, the second girl to serve us told us that we should all order a main course to be able to stay (we were ordering 4 for 5 people because the fifth person is the girl), from then on the girl got quite annoying, the first waitress came to tell her that she had already told us but she told her “I'm explaining something else” and basically sent her off to serve another table (which left us with the taste of a rule invented at the last minute). Despite this, we agreed to order a fifth dish but please give us a few minutes to decide, to which he responded heavily and stuck out his thumb at us as a sign of 👍🏻 with a heavy “wonderful”. The food arrived on time, a third waiter served us, but unfortunately the attitude of the second waitress had already made the experience bitter, even bumping into her in the hallway was uncomfortable because it made you look bad. Anyway, I would think twice about returning despite the good food and the beautiful pub.

Dorina and layton where brilliant servers full of life and very funny. I highly recommend for people who love a broad selection of whisky and even those who don't know know whiskys due to the staff knowledge on them. I would recommend for anyone wanting a brilliant atmosphere, great servers and a great bar.

We stopped in twice during our visit to Edinburgh. The Albananch is a cozy old world pub with a good selection of beer and wine ( and of course whiskey!). Both times were very busy but service was great and patrons very friendly. We are an early dinner one evening and the food was delicious. (Mac and cheese and fish and chips). This became my favorite pub to stop and have a pint after site seeing.

Great location. Service present but not urgent. Very good food and very good whiskey advice. Inexpensive for the area. I recommend.

What a fantastic place. So many whiskies to choose from, which wasn’t a problem, the staff knew their whiskies, so were able to recommend based on your taste, so was not disappointed, in fact , I came away with a better appreciation for whisky entirely. Food was excellent, as were the staff. Stayed in Edinburgh for 4 days and the Albanach became our preferred resting place after many day trips covering a beautiful Scotland, thank you

We were there 2 evenings and we were served by a lovely lady called Mel’s. She was so friendly and helpful and the food was very tasty and good

Tried going here for dinner. It was a bit busy but not to the extreme, when inquiring for a table to eat the staff (3 different employees) looked surprised by the question. We could wait in the bar area for a table but it wasn't clear how we would know a table freed up or if there were any other people ahead of us (there were several parties of people asking the same question simultaneously). Severe lack of communication from the staff. It seemed like no one was responsible for placing customers or that person was at least not present. Edit post owner reaction: This was not mentioned to us and I don't even know how they would've decided which party would get to go first. Changed rating from 2 to 1 star for making up a story.

We stopped in because we saw the collection of whiskies and were not disappointed. This ended up being our favorite restaurant from our trip. We stayed for some food and even though it took some time it was WELL worth the wait. The bar staff were very knowledgeable about all of their spirits and very friendly. We recommend the haggis fritters and the duck hash!

It has a traditional pub atmosphere but is also very welcoming to newcomers. I was able to enjoy a wide selection of unique Scottish whiskies at affordable prices, which was fantastic. The bartenders were knowledgeable and made great recommendations.

Food was good. The place has a great feel to it. The service was horrendous. If management is reading this, back of restaurant, dark hair, Monday evening, our service was extremely rude not just to us but multiple tables. So much so, 4 tables of us were all talking about it. I know everyone has a bad day but this is the service industry, and yes I've worked in the industry before many times, and attitude like that is unacceptable and completely insane. We're here for 4 more days and won't be going back..... Perhaps neither should you.

Are you looking for a whisky place? Then this is the one. On The Royal mile you may be afraid it is touristy spot but don't be fooled! Amazing choice of whisky for reasonable price and the staff is not just lovely but also well informed about all the drinks.

We entered (party of 4) with no reservation on a very busy Sunday evening and were told there was little chance of being seated, yet we waited only 10 minutes, enough time for a wee dram of some fine whisky, of which they have an excellent selection! The food was wonderful! Our server, Madison, was absolutely wonderful with the service, as well as her compatriot (whose name has unfortunately escaped my memory) made an excellent team. My Mac and cheese, along with a burger and tatties, and onion rings, were great! I would return here and would recommend!

Absolutely great pub Experience. The front is the pub area and the Rear is the dining area. All the staff was very friendly and attentive, but I got a little busy, so at times it was a little slower but very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. I had a steak and ale pie. Such. Great gravy with the puff pastry. Potatoes were great too, and being a pub had a wide range of drinks, including Cider. Not cheap, but not Overpriced as the food was worth it.

I always love coming back to the Albanach. It’s one of those special pubs in Edinburgh that feels like a home from home. Spectacular staff and a vast range of whiskies to try if that’s your thing (which it very much is for me). During the Fringe, because of its location in the heart of Edinburghs old town it is extremely popular and busy, but the highly professional staff always make it a personal experience. Live music in a Friday and Saturday night further add to the lively atmosphere. Don’t miss this spot on your trip to Edinburgh!

My husband and I ate there today the food was atrocious. We both had chicken Kiev it was awful the chips were not much better the salad on the side conssisted of lettuce. We will not be back.

Beautiful pub on the Royal Mile. Typically Scottish atmosphere, especially on the ground floor. We had a great bacon and cheddar burger, a great Cesar salad and some excellent Scottish beer. Fast and courteous service. Average price for pubs in central Edinburgh. Must try

Very cool location, friendly service and above all very tasty beer (Belhaven Black). I received a glass as a souvenir when I asked (no theft). As a thank you, a little greeting from my home in Rostock/Germany, they also have tasty beer here.....

Had some lovely food and drinks here. The service was lovely. Everyone did their best to make our time pleasant. The mac and cheese and the chicken kiev were amazing. Think the front of the pub area was very cosy, but we had to sit in the back. All and all still a great experience. Would recommend.

If you close the kitchen at 9PM instead Of 10PM as Google displays, modify it on Google what every tourist use. I have walked more Than 30 minutes in the rain for nothing…

Grumpy bartender, long wait. Went elsewhere which was much better.

Their vast collection of Whiskey makes it one of the most lively place on the Mile. The manager Gillie, one of the most sweet person you'll meet. She was patient enough to explain the various whiskey. Their Sticky Toffee pudding was one of my favourite dish.

Been to this place twice specially for their Belhaven Best. The ambiance is perfect for a pub and they've got superb collection of Green King beers as well. Sat down for a couple of pints (brilliant ones) and Tegan at the bar was super courteous and attentive to us! Right at the heart of Royal Mile, this is the pub for you!

Very nice spot located about mid point on the Royal Mile. We had Chicken Kyiv and Mac and cheese, chocolate torte for dessert - all were very delicious! Service was exceptional. We sat in the back room, away from the bar, and it was quite nice even though it was full. Excellent value for the quality experience.

DON'T sleep on the Halloumi fries.

I was alone in the pub last night, first watching the football game, then watching the live music. I sat at the bar where I was looked after by super nice bartenders who recommended both delicious local beer and whiskey. Would definitely come back. It's a shame that I'm leaving again today.

We had lunch at Albanch. The waitress by the name Teagan was amazing. She gave us an excellent recommendation: my husband had a Scottish steak and I got fish and chips. The food was delicious. We want to try some Scotland beer Taigan’s assistant Eloise brought us some sample to try to make sure we are satisfied with our drinks The dinning are is very cozy with a beautiful view Loved the place. Would highly recommended

I’m a musician and this is 1 of my favourite places to play. The atmosphere is always on point. I’ve also been here with my partner for drinks and we loved the friendly staff who talked us through a mini whiskey tasting 👌

If there was a zero star I would’ve gave them it. We waiting 45 minutes for our food, no one came over until we asked why we’ve been waiting so long and they didn’t seem to care until we said we were leaving. The staff we obviously very stretched and they didnt care enough for us, would not go back

The food here was nice, though nothing spectacular, but the prices reflect its location. Unfortunately, service was slow on the day of our visit, and I'm sure the poor server attending our table was doing the same for every other table. I wouldn't seek it out for another go, but I wouldn't stomp my feet and insist on somewhere else either.

Very poor level of service from barman to team leader and manager. The Waitress was slow and confusing the group order and then billing. Our friend was treated inappropriately by a patronising and incompetent waitress/ bartender saying that the customer was too ill to be served. The truth was that we were rather irritated by the slow and confused service at the beginning and it was just too stuffy on one of the hottest days in Scotland with load of people and a heating RADIATORS ON!! So yeah we wanted a glass of ice to cool the body temperature and add to our drinks. Rather than wasting more time at the bar by being judged inappropriately and face a stressful situation created by Bar person. We were boiling! Blowing our mind, there is something really wrong about it. We have just had a lovely dinner and drinks at a nearby restaurant- no challenging or patronising behaviour whatsoever. Tried with a face to face feedback but it wasn’t taken or rectified. The manager did nothing about it, just abrupt and walked away.

Great place to for Scottish whisky and vibrant crowd. Lived the place and hospitality

We came back here for dinner after we’d visited for a drink last year. The restaurant area at the back just doesn’t have the same atmosphere as the front bar. After 10 minutes of being there they offered us water for the dog, but then took another 30 minutes to take our food and drink order. The food didn’t take too long to come out after that. But the staff were run off their feet and it wasn’t particularly full that evening.

11/10 the chicken Kiev was amazing. Banana old fashioned was delicious. Steak and ale pie was on point and the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world.

On a cold March evening, with the wind howling and the rain soaking through to my pale skin, I traversed the cobbles of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, seeking shelter in a public house. I passed many a hostelry, none catching my eye. I'd have rather perished in the streets than enter them. 'Sh*tehole after Sh*tehole!' I thought. But then, when all seemed lost, I happened upon the Albanach... Warmth radiated from door and joy poured in abundance onto the streets. I stepped inside. Immediately I was greeted by a truly wonderful member of staff! Jennifer they called her, her name ringing like a bell on Santa's sleigh around the bar and having been sang by many a satisfied customer! (Although I also heard her referred to as Jenny, Jenny Mo, Big Jen, JJ Mo & The Big Mo throughout the evening). Jenny's extensive knowledge of an unparalleled range of whisky's made me feel safe, secure...I would never be led astray. I had settled in for the evening. And after 14 pints of their finest lager I was beginning to feel rather merry. "A kebab next" the devil on my shoulder said. I waved a fond goodbye to my fellow patrons and to Jenny my host. But not for long as I knew I would be back. Why? Because thanks to Jenny the Albanach isn't just a pub. It's a home.

I stopped off for an early evening drink, Thursday 25th april, the pub was really busy. I sat at the bar ,ordered a pint of Moretti lager, drank it and left. The next morning I was really ill, with an upset stomach, which can only be the result of a 'bad pint' . When I was sat at the bar I saw on different occasions, two of your barmen rinsing out glasses by filling them with soda or something similar from the dispenser under the bar, presumably to clean them because because you had run out of glasses from the steamer. Now I don't know if this is your regular practice but I do know this breaks all the rules of food hygiene and can only be the cause of my illness, which I have only just recovered from after two days .I await your comments !....

Unfortunately we were unable to test since we were refused access due to a child with us, at 6 p.m. that sucks! The waiter even refused to serve us and invited us to look elsewhere! Very disappointing !

Good service ,nice location ,cozy place but food wasn’t good at all .After 50minutes waiting I got over done steak ,and 10minutes after I returned it I got another steak -same bad as before.Squid and fish -too much breading, duck - big disappointment. In general - good place for a drink , eat only if you have to . Ps.To the owner : I did ask for MEDIUM - not WELL DONE .
