Very warm Welcoming bar member! Good old days asking questions and been attentive to each customer! Grab pub, didn't eat here but looked amazing aswell

Pleasant and attractive city centre bar and restaurant. Visited on a weekday evening and the bar was quiet, staff welcoming and the beer was of excellent quality. Didn't eat here on this occasion, but would try on a future visit.

Very cool pub right off The Royal Mile, delicious food. The bartender (Mekedes) was very nice and extremely helpful with picking out a drink and chatting.

Nice place and very cozy. Would come back here mostly for the beers and atmosphere. Fun to taste traditional Scottish food and it actually tasted fine. For internationals, please note that accessories for the food are served cold, e.g. bread for soup is not heated, if you order the crab, there is intentionally a cold layer of butter/fat on top which you have to break through to get down to the crab meat. Good beers on tap and an absurd amount of whiskey. We also ended up tasting two whiskeys and there was a good atmosphere in the bar throughout the night - good mix of people who wanted food and people who just came for a drink. Both couples, dates, groups of friends - young as well as adults.

Once in Edinburgh you naturally try to visit all the well-known restaurants/pubs. Everything is ok, we have reserved tables in advance. The waiter also spontaneously gave us another table according to our request. Thanks for that. Apparently the owner also owns World's End, the menus were identical, the menu was identical... Still, it was tasty.

Very cosy and inviting. Staff were super attentive and helpful. We just had a quick toasty, but it was really flavoursome. Prices were reasonable.

Really lovely food, staff and atmosphere. Gorgeous mac and cheese and proper garlic bread, a nice atmosphere. Really convenient and nice spot to eat and drink at along the Royal Mile, near all the attractions so you can stop for a rest and a bite while you look around. Will be coming back the next time we visit Edinburgh

A big thank you to Teagan our waitress who was adorable 🫶🏻 and who made sure everything went well The place is typical and superbly well decorated in the traditional style The only downside is the kitchen closing time, because the waiting time for the dishes is very long (1 hour) and the kitchen closes very early (9 p.m./9:30 p.m.) so when you finish the dish it is impossible to have a dessert, maybe you have to order everything at once? We're French and we're used to ordering dessert afterwards but it's the same everywhere in the other restaurants we've been to they bring the bill straight away when the kitchen closes aha

I loved the place, the atmosphere, the service, the beer, the people, i enjoyed a lot! you can see there not only young, but also older people, even whole families, with all generations, not only beer and malt lovers but also those who search just for a cozy and friendly place for a brake, just to set their mind to the relax mode. and the music is always fantastic, at least for my taste. even the folk music in Scotland is adorable, i love it, i feel it like being back to my own cultural roots, as i feel that from this music a lot of later developed music genres came from, that we listen now played by internationally popular musicians. My first visit to Scotland it was, and i looooved it! i will be certainly back!

Lots of people but great atmosphere!

So, where to start? When we visited..2/01/25 The staff are rude and disrespectful. It was bitterly cold outside, but people were wearing their hats, coats and gloves inside the pub. I made a comment that it was cold to a member of staff, I was told it was cold because it was busy and the door was open alot with customers coming and going. The same member of staff was overheard at the bar talking to his colleagues, saying that we shouldn't have sat near the door. There were people wearing coats inside the pub!! Next, they had sold out of nearly everything on the food menu. No nachos, no chicken platter to share, no burgers. We had some fries, nothing special, the server forgot to bring mayonnaise, but did bring 2 bottles of ketchup 🤣😅🤣. After this we left. They clearly did not want our business. We went to the Whiski bar, further down the Royal Mile, and spent over £200 on food and drink and had a lovely evening, warm and listening to fantastic music.

Great little traditional pub on the Mile, there’s so many to choose from but they have Belhaven Black on tap so it’s a winner for me! Recommended.

Very good staff care. Beautiful atmosphere without being affected by the hustle and bustle of the bar. The food is excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the starters to the dessert.

Fabulous service! We had a steak and fish and chips!! Steak was lovely but not many chips. The fish was a little over cooked and again not many chips! But the service we had more than made up for this! The young lady serving us on Boxing night was absolutely lovely, attentive and very cheery!

Had a fantastic couple of visits on our Christmas weekend away. Friendly and inviting place, with great staff who made us feel welcome and had a great laugh with them. Gillian in particular was wonderful, who even remembered us on our return. Really enhanced our trip. Good food, great drinks and brilliant service.

Had a roast Turkey dinner it was rank. I'm sure the homeless will get better on Christmas day! The Turkey I'm sure has never ever been a Turkey, veg over and under cooked, deep fried potatoes and not roasted as advertised. I'm sure my dog would've turned his nose up!

Dinner in the bar room as there was no more room in the back room, but the food was good and reasonably priced, the atmosphere was quite nice, the music was good and just loud enough to be heard without disturbing conversations.

We ate at the bar due to lack of room in the dining room. The food was of very good quality, in appreciable quantities, although a little slow to arrive. And the prices are very reasonable for the quality. The atmosphere is very typical and lively, without being too noisy, and the beers were good.

Great food with really good waiter/waitress service

The environment is beautiful. The employees are kind. The average price is almost the same in every bar. If you had difficulty with the language, they understood that and were incredibly kind. Tennet beer price was £6.7. Estimate the price here. Generally, beers are anywhere between 6-7 quid.

Only had drinks. Staff very friendly and helpful. Gave great advice and helped us choose a whiskey. Which was perfect 👌

Gorgeous food, lovely staff and a lovely place to sit and have a meal.

Went in, spoke to the bar staff asking if the back was open as we wanted to order food. Was told to go along to the guy with the half checked shirt. He motioned us to follow him (no hello, nothing) and he attempted to put us at a tiny little cramped table between people where there was no room to even move the chair out from the table. So we moved to one of the many perfectly good spacious tables. We looked through the menu, decided what we would order and then folded up the menu and waited to be served. At this point we hadn't been offered drinks or any pleasantries. We looked outside for a bit, still no service We tried to see if anyone would catch eyes with us, still no service I checked if they had an app to order, wasn't working. I got up and wandered to the bar to see him standing, chilling, chatting away Overall we waited about 35 minutes with not one person coming up to our table. Got up and left and went to a wetherspoons and as we left he looked at us with annoyance Not sure what we done to deserve that type of service but it is the worst I've had in Edinburgh and it's my 2nd experience of terrible service in this place.

Staff is great, atmosphere is good and the food delicious! Just like the White Hart in they ask you upfront about allergies which is good. A plate full is what you get and a big smile from the staff. Thank you!

We had tasty meals here between visiting the Edinburgh dungeons and Edinburgh Castle. Staff were friendly and we were served by the lovely Mekedes.

We were in Edinburgh for only a week and came back for a second time for the food and obviously some Scotch.

Always a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly

The food is very good, we will not deny it. However, the attention of one of the three people who served us almost made our last night in Edinburgh a bad experience. We entered with a girl, they explained to us that we should order food and that we had to leave before 9 pm, which we understood and accepted due to the restriction in pubs, however, the second girl to serve us told us that we should all order a main course to be able to stay (we were ordering 4 for 5 people because the fifth person is the girl), from then on the girl got quite annoying, the first waitress came to tell her that she had already told us but she told her “I'm explaining something else” and basically sent her off to serve another table (which left us with the taste of a rule invented at the last minute). Despite this, we agreed to order a fifth dish but please give us a few minutes to decide, to which he responded heavily and stuck out his thumb at us as a sign of 👍🏻 with a heavy “wonderful”. The food arrived on time, a third waiter served us, but unfortunately the attitude of the second waitress had already made the experience bitter, even bumping into her in the hallway was uncomfortable because it made you look bad. Anyway, I would think twice about returning despite the good food and the beautiful pub.

Dorina and layton where brilliant servers full of life and very funny. I highly recommend for people who love a broad selection of whisky and even those who don't know know whiskys due to the staff knowledge on them. I would recommend for anyone wanting a brilliant atmosphere, great servers and a great bar.

What a fantastic place. So many whiskies to choose from, which wasn’t a problem, the staff knew their whiskies, so were able to recommend based on your taste, so was not disappointed, in fact , I came away with a better appreciation for whisky entirely. Food was excellent, as were the staff. Stayed in Edinburgh for 4 days and the Albanach became our preferred resting place after many day trips covering a beautiful Scotland, thank you

Tried going here for dinner. It was a bit busy but not to the extreme, when inquiring for a table to eat the staff (3 different employees) looked surprised by the question. We could wait in the bar area for a table but it wasn't clear how we would know a table freed up or if there were any other people ahead of us (there were several parties of people asking the same question simultaneously). Severe lack of communication from the staff. It seemed like no one was responsible for placing customers or that person was at least not present. Edit post owner reaction: This was not mentioned to us and I don't even know how they would've decided which party would get to go first. Changed rating from 2 to 1 star for making up a story.

We stopped in because we saw the collection of whiskies and were not disappointed. This ended up being our favorite restaurant from our trip. We stayed for some food and even though it took some time it was WELL worth the wait. The bar staff were very knowledgeable about all of their spirits and very friendly. We recommend the haggis fritters and the duck hash!

It has a traditional pub atmosphere but is also very welcoming to newcomers. I was able to enjoy a wide selection of unique Scottish whiskies at affordable prices, which was fantastic. The bartenders were knowledgeable and made great recommendations.

Food was good. The place has a great feel to it. The service was horrendous. If management is reading this, back of restaurant, dark hair, Monday evening, our service was extremely rude not just to us but multiple tables. So much so, 4 tables of us were all talking about it. I know everyone has a bad day but this is the service industry, and yes I've worked in the industry before many times, and attitude like that is unacceptable and completely insane. We're here for 4 more days and won't be going back..... Perhaps neither should you.

Are you looking for a whisky place? Then this is the one. On The Royal mile you may be afraid it is touristy spot but don't be fooled! Amazing choice of whisky for reasonable price and the staff is not just lovely but also well informed about all the drinks.

Absolutely great pub Experience. The front is the pub area and the Rear is the dining area. All the staff was very friendly and attentive, but I got a little busy, so at times it was a little slower but very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. I had a steak and ale pie. Such. Great gravy with the puff pastry. Potatoes were great too, and being a pub had a wide range of drinks, including Cider. Not cheap, but not Overpriced as the food was worth it.

I always love coming back to the Albanach. It’s one of those special pubs in Edinburgh that feels like a home from home. Spectacular staff and a vast range of whiskies to try if that’s your thing (which it very much is for me). During the Fringe, because of its location in the heart of Edinburghs old town it is extremely popular and busy, but the highly professional staff always make it a personal experience. Live music in a Friday and Saturday night further add to the lively atmosphere. Don’t miss this spot on your trip to Edinburgh!

My husband and I ate there today the food was atrocious. We both had chicken Kiev it was awful the chips were not much better the salad on the side conssisted of lettuce. We will not be back.

Beautiful pub on the Royal Mile. Typically Scottish atmosphere, especially on the ground floor. We had a great bacon and cheddar burger, a great Cesar salad and some excellent Scottish beer. Fast and courteous service. Average price for pubs in central Edinburgh. Must try

Very cool location, friendly service and above all very tasty beer (Belhaven Black). I received a glass as a souvenir when I asked (no theft). As a thank you, a little greeting from my home in Rostock/Germany, they also have tasty beer here.....

Had some lovely food and drinks here. The service was lovely. Everyone did their best to make our time pleasant. The mac and cheese and the chicken kiev were amazing. Think the front of the pub area was very cosy, but we had to sit in the back. All and all still a great experience. Would recommend.

If you close the kitchen at 9PM instead Of 10PM as Google displays, modify it on Google what every tourist use. I have walked more Than 30 minutes in the rain for nothing…

Their vast collection of Whiskey makes it one of the most lively place on the Mile. The manager Gillie, one of the most sweet person you'll meet. She was patient enough to explain the various whiskey. Their Sticky Toffee pudding was one of my favourite dish.

Been to this place twice specially for their Belhaven Best. The ambiance is perfect for a pub and they've got superb collection of Green King beers as well. Sat down for a couple of pints (brilliant ones) and Tegan at the bar was super courteous and attentive to us! Right at the heart of Royal Mile, this is the pub for you!

Very nice spot located about mid point on the Royal Mile. We had Chicken Kyiv and Mac and cheese, chocolate torte for dessert - all were very delicious! Service was exceptional. We sat in the back room, away from the bar, and it was quite nice even though it was full. Excellent value for the quality experience.

DON'T sleep on the Halloumi fries.

I was alone in the pub last night, first watching the football game, then watching the live music. I sat at the bar where I was looked after by super nice bartenders who recommended both delicious local beer and whiskey. Would definitely come back. It's a shame that I'm leaving again today.

We had lunch at Albanch. The waitress by the name Teagan was amazing. She gave us an excellent recommendation: my husband had a Scottish steak and I got fish and chips. The food was delicious. We want to try some Scotland beer Taigan’s assistant Eloise brought us some sample to try to make sure we are satisfied with our drinks The dinning are is very cozy with a beautiful view Loved the place. Would highly recommended

Became our regular pub during our unfortunately far too short stay in Edinburgh. Good food, friendly and professional staff and a great atmosphere at fair prices for the location (Royal Mile). Our personal recommendation: burgers or fish & chips.
