The Ainsty in York

Nice chilled atmosphere, snooker on the TV and a great pint of Guinness. Food was bloody lovely, especially liked the hot honey. Cheers to Ben 👍

It was the first time that I had been to the Ainsty, I usually go to another pub for Sunday lunch, but I will be coming back here. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The staff are so friendly and the food was delicious. I asked to speak and thank June personally for our lovely Sunday lunch and the puddings are delicious

We went yesterday for my birthday and ate around half 5. Myself and my partner my mother and a friend with a four year old. I had turkey dinner and a small dinner for the little one. Steak and ale pie. Chicken burger and a chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich for the others. All the food came together and the hot meals were piping hot. The four year old ate everything! Very tasty. Service excellent. The football was on the big screens one being right above us but not too intrusive for us to have a conversation. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. We'll definitely be back and introduce different friends. We have been before. The small plates are ideal for lunchtime especially the tacos 😋😁. Well done to all concerned. Pub is spotless also. Great place for a warm welcome, good service and tasty food.had an amazing Sea Bass Risotto from the Specials menu.... 2 lovely fillets of fish on a green risotto served with rocket - fabulous 😍 Other meals included the delicious hot honey chicken burger, cheese and bacon burger and the mighty mixed grill 😋

Mixed grill ordered sausages hard gave back for more to be cooked came back with same chicken steak gammon cold and egg not very happy with food as before was nice

From the minute we arrived until the minute we left,the staff were polite,courteous, and extremely welcoming, The food was absolutely fabulous, extremely tasty, and well presented, Definitely worth every penny, I would recommend this to everyone. The whole place was very clean and tidy, aswell as comfortable, Keep up the good work to the staff.

Lovely atmosphere and love the drinks on offer. A special mention must go to the food on offer at a reasonable price and great quality. Ben the head chef came out and was very attentive to make sure all our needs were met.

Got 4 tickets for new years eve got bags searched and patted down of our bodies then all the seats reserved nothing happening did not feel welcoming at all will not go again 😑 total waste if money.

Lovely food. The seniors' menu was really good, and just the right amount for two of our party. The service was quick, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

New managment have completely ruined this pub. Used to be full on weekends now it is a ghost town because the owners are so rude and the food is disgusting tastes like netto microwave meals !

Had a pensioners meal before Christmas and was lovely and good valve.

As promised Ben thank you for dinner and the doggy bag tub I did eat the rest of the pie for tea and enjoyed it,we had a great day out and to top it off our dinner was lovely,okay so it wasn't homemade but it wasn't bad at all and we'll be back again soon. Lovely pub with friendly staff and brilliant breakfast

We used to come in now and then but since it's been taken over we come in a lot more. The food is so nice! And the staff are friendly. Everything is clean and kept on top of. New landlord and landlady are lovely and have really done well making it so nice and welcoming.

Service was superb and the staff were very polite and efficient. Everything on the breakfast was also perfect.

It was cheap and cheerful, food was lovely and quick as well. But it was overrun with large loud families, an lots of tables of loud drunken groups of friends, at 6pm in an evening. We would return but much much earlier in the hope to avoid these.

We are in the ainsty as we write the ainsty is so welcoming friendly and can’t do enough to help you the food was very tasty and well presented the chef was also very helpful and made sure we was ok 100% we will be going again and I personally recommend everything is so different clean and bright get yourselves down you won’t be disappointed

A lovely Sunday dinner. Not over priced and large portions. Ashley behind the bar was very welcoming and looked after us well from start to finish. Both FOH and BOH very friendly and attentive. You should be very proud of your team

I was welcomed with a smile and friendliness by the staff. I ate a wonderful vegan burger! Best I've eaten in the area. Everyone is very friendly. family environment with parking. It has a pool table and dart board. I recommend it and I will definitely come back. ♡

Went for food this evening… Service was great , friendly environment, lovely girl behind the bar giving my dog treats and water ,stanley says thankyou .. food was great nothing to complain about . The steak was cooked to my partner’s liking so he was happy And he had options of adding scampi which was a winner .. Would definitely go back as it was a relaxing evening. Thanks guys

I have to say it’s probably the best pint of lager I’ve had in a long time. The other key thing I noticed was a “beer resting” sign, a true sentiment to someone who knows what they’re doing. Really enjoyed it.

Ii had a senior person meal 2 courses for £8 99 the main was scampi and chips there were 6 pieces of scampi the following week I had a main meal approx £12 49 I recieved 7 peices of scampi surly that carnt be right feel like I was ripped of won't be going there again

The pub has just been taken over by new management and staff, still finding their feet. Improvement is needed with waiting and communication. Staff could do with some table service skill training, and communication between kitchen chef passing on information on food not available so bar staff, can then pass this information to the customer, therefore the customer can make a decision on a change of dish. The food was okay, but again, it could be improved. Portions were reasonable, but some dishes still were on the small side. Waiting time needed to improve, staff need to reassure the customer if they have a long wait time from the kitchen, make the customer feel not forgotten. Overall, management and staff friendly, the pub is a local and there was a local friendly vibe, with children and pets catered for. Our experience was not the best and was our first visit. But rather than be negative, I wanted finish with positivity, this pub could really make a good name for itself and I will be going back to see if they have improved. I really hope they do.

We where here for a long weekend for my partners birthday. We had the mushrooms and sausage roll starters, mixed grill and a steak. The food was fresh and tasted yummy. We even had desert apple and blackberry crumble. Could not fault food or service.

Me and my friends decided to have few drinks here. Lovely place. Grate food and we spent few hours in the sun enjoying our food and drinks. But I have a question for management. Are you happy with a guy who work in bar and he spend 16 minutes to pour 2 pints of cider?

Good place for a pint and outdoor seating. Google Maps has the pub listed as being at 49 Boroughbridge Road, instead of 59. Would suggest the owners fix that on Google!

In my view the mark of a fine Sunday Roast Dinner is the Yorkshire puddings and chef Ben really knocked it out of the park. The Yorkshire puddings were what you would hope to see in a Gastro pub, and the gravy was equally divine. We will be coming back when next in the area to sample the Sunday Lunch as we normally spend £70-£80 on a Sunday Roast Dinner for the two of us with drinks at a nearby gastro pub. Let's hope Chef Ben continues with his hand made ones rather than the pre prepared ones (yuk) that you expect from a chain restaurant.

Very nice meal. All kids had main meals. Didn't have one thing but were very accommodating on changing to something else I liked. Staff very polite and friendly. All in all a very nice experience with kids!

We both had vegan, fish and chips and the vegan burger. Both the fish and the burger were strange tasting and we’re not at all cooked well. There was no vegan cheese, which is apparently a common thing for this pub. Looking at the reviews . Maybe the cheese would have blocked out the vile taste of the burger itself. There are plenty more vegan burgers available on the market now which the pub should have realised and catered for, especially because it is Veganuary, you would have thought that they would make a special effort. Not everyone wants to eat corpses!! The burger bun was so inedible, and I could’ve knocked a few nails into a piece of wood with it. The chips were cheap oven chips, and we left the majority of our meals. The only redeeming feature of the burger meal was the Chinese curry sauce, which was great to dip the chips in to make them taste at least of something pleasant. I’ve read some of the reviews for this pub following our visit (I wish I had read them before we visited), and it’s pretty obvious that they don’t really cater for vegans, despite the huge population of vegans in the York area. We would definitely never visit this pub again!
