We had a great time at our visit last week. We went on a Thursday but in the school Easter holidays. We pre-booked so we got a discount and didn't have to queue. Kelly was our guide, she was very good in her role, interacting with us and gave a comical performance! She clearly loves her job and she is very good at it. We were surprised with the amount of 'tasters' we got along the way, top marks for that from the kids! We learnt a lot from this tour and my 8 and 5 yr olds have been telling everyone about it! Thoroughly recommend a visit here, it's definitely worth it!

We had an enjoyable tour, learning a lot from Rachel about the history of chocolate and how it's made. Unexpectedly, everyone had the chance to make and decorate a chocolate lolly to take away. Other edible freebies were handed out on the way round. The shop is expensive, but we bought a couple of sale items.

Amazing tour with Lee today! He was engaging, entertaining and knowledgeable. The chocolatier we spent time with at the end (whose name I have forgotten, sorry!) was also a treat to talk to and very skilled. Staff downstairs seemed very harried and not as engaged, though we could see big groups coming through so understandable. Unfortunate that the company's policy on changing date/time (from an apparently otherwise empty 10:30am booking for 2 people to a not-yet-full afternoon group) still cost us £15 - bit of a rort. So if booking in advance, make triple sure you will make it!!

My husband and I made a last minute decision to visit the York Chocolate Story with our 3 year old son during a trip to York. We were initially sceptical as we’re vegan but I love chocolate and a few Google reviews said they catered for dairy-free visitors. We are so glad we visited and agreed it was one of the highlights of our trip. Our tour guide was Austin and, after telling him we can’t eat dairy at the start of the tour, we were very well catered for. I think we actually had more chocolate than those who could eat dairy! We had a different chocolate and toppings for the Lolly making and the chocolate was suprisingly delicious! I would absolutely recommend the tour to anyone! We noticed a coeliac member of the group also was well catered for. The only criticism we have is the prices in the gift shop- these were so steep that we didn’t buy anything.

Went in today. We accidentally booked the incorrect date. Before we realised this the girl was so abrupt with us. I was trying to find my email and kept asking abruptly to see it. I was trying to get it open. Then realised the date was wrong by 1 day. We understand this is our mistake but we were told we would have to repay to book. They can't transfer tickets. A little bit of empathy would have went a long way considering it was a genuine mistake and the tickets are expensive. My son has left crying. Edit since I can't reply. Actually I can see this happens alot. All the 1 star reviews are similar experiences. The attitude isn't acceptable and people pay alot of money to visit. It would be nice to show a human side and help people who want to visit. The experience is alot of money for people and mistakes happen.

We had a private space inside this gorgeous building. We used it for our monthly York Humanist event in April. The bar staff were friendly, quick and efficient. Thank you!
