It's very interesting to learn about the history of chocolate and how it is made from cacao to chocolate. Teenagers will enjoy it the most. However, many adults will also enjoy it as they become children again. 🎵 There are also souvenirs to buy, so I highly recommend it. (The cost performance is not bad either)

I initially added a 2 star rating. However this was in error!! The rating should have been 4 star so not sure how this happened and I apologise to the business as I know consumer feedback has an effect. We didn't experience the chocolate tour but two of us enjoyed a hot chocolate and some of the individual chocolates from the selection. All were absolutely delicious and when we return to York we look forward to coming back, sampling more and doing the chocolate experience. Thank you!!

Great tour guide and really interesting content. It is however fairly quick (circa 1hr) and not great value especially if you pay full price. We got the tickets on the 2:1 travel by rail offer which felt fair value.

I like this place it shows you how much chocolate York used to make. What's sad it also highlights how York managed to lose 3 great confectionery companies, and is now a shadow of its former self

Great museum tour, Pip our tour guide was fantastic so fun and enthusiastic even when an annoying kid on the tour kept swinging her sword in her face! Really interesting and with the added bonus of samples to eat as we went around! The lolly making was fun too, not just for kids either. Only downside was the 'cafe' only sold drinks and sweets but it's not a problem as there's plenty of cafés nearby. Worth s trip for all age groups.

We decided to do the chocolate tour experience on a recent mini-break in York. The tour lasted approx. 1hr 30mins which was led by Josh who was exceptional. He had so many interesting facts about Yorks chocolate history and was very engaging. We all had a wonderful experience and enjoyed tasting the samples along the way. If you're looking for something to do indoors while In York then we definitely recommend this attraction.

Experience: 5/5 Informative: 5/5 Fun: 5/5 Chocolate samples: 5/5 Staff: 5/5 Overall: 5/5 I enrolled into the truffle making experience and was one of three in a group, which I know isn’t normal as they usually have bigger groups. Our guide was Harriet who was super lovely and friendly. She was so informative and very enthusiastic and is an absolute credit to your team! She made us feel welcome and guided us through the history of chocolate in York. The entire tour was so very immersive and very creative, nothing like how I expected (even better!) and it was an enjoyable experience from start to finish. I loved learning about the history and all the different families that make up chocolate in York. I learned a lot about things I didn’t even realise happened in York which was fab! We got to make a lollypop to begin with and then we’re able to roll our truffles afterwards. Whilst they set, we then were shown how chocolates were made and were able to sample those too! I honestly didn’t expect so many different types of samples and it was an exciting experience! You might think that it’s great for kids but I would absolutely recommend for adults as well! (Who doesn’t like a bit of fun and chocolate!?) Honestly would return again because it’s super fun! And the gift shop is literally just chocolate (amazing). Highly recommend the chocolates in the counter that you can get nicely boxed! Lots of different and exciting flavours to choose from!

The truffles are so tasty and you get lots of samples throughout, which is always a plus! Will definitely be making another trip in the future and will sample some more of their produce too! Only thing to be aware of, if you have little ones, is the video at the start of the tour. It goes through the history of the west finding chocolate and is a bit gory. Lizzy did a nice job of warning the parents 👍🏻

Knowing the history of chocolate was interesting. I liked the part where the making of chocolate from a bean is explained with visuals on the table. The tour guide was fun and friendly. Staff is really polite n respectful. Overall good experience. Their hot chocolate is delicious. However, from the description, photos and reviews, I had higher expectations of it being more immersive and fascinating. Not enough value for money. For the same/less price I visited other attractions in York which were mind-blowing, kept me engrossed for a few hours and left a long lasting impression. Compared to that this was alright and jus 1 hour.

IT’S A Chocolate Lover's Paradise @ York Chocolate Story If you’re ever in York and love chocolate (who doesn’t?), you have to check out York Chocolate Story. It’s not just a café or a shop—it’s a three-story chocolate adventure. What I loved the most is their warm, friendly staff, and they patiently explained to me how this place is packed with history, in few minutes of chatting with them I learned all about how York became the chocolate capital of Britain. But honestly, the best part is that everything they sell in their display cabinet is made right there on-site. You can actually taste the care and tradition in every bite. Oh, and if you’re someone who needs gluten-free options, you’ll love this—they label everything clearly. No awkward guessing games or squinting at tiny print. It’s such a relief to see a place with such a rich history also keeping up with modern dietary needs. The whole vibe is just… happy. I could see the kids were full of joy, and the adults were just as excited. Oh yeh and the smell of chocolate fills the air—it’s impossible not to smile. Whether you’re a full-on chocolate nerd like me 🫣or just someone who likes a sweet treat now and then, this place is a must-visit. It’s fun, it’s delicious, and you’ll leave with a bag full of goodies (and probably a little chocolate on your face). Trust me, it’s worth it. 🍫✨

Without giving too much away, there are plenty of delightful surprises along the way. This well organised, 90 minute experience is entertaining, informative, and suitable for all age groups. My son and I had Sarah Walker as our tour guide. Sarah was a very friendly, animated, caring and attentive tour guide. I informed Sarah that, as my son and I are Muslims, we were unable to have any chocolates that had alcohol, porcine based gelatine, or any other non-halal animal based gelatine in it. Sarah very conscientiously made sure that all the chocolates that were offered to me and my son were halal. She frequently checked the contents information sheet, to make sure that the type of chocolate that I and my son chose were halal. I applaud York Chocolate Story, in preparing a contents information sheet, which states which chocolate is halal, and which ones are not. Thank you Sarah, for making me and my son feel included, and reassured that what we were eating was halal. And thank you Sarah, and York Chocolate Story, for making us feel welcomed, included, and cared for during the tour. I would recommend going for the York Chocolate Story tour for anyone who loves chocolates, and I would definitely recommend Muslims to go and experience the tour.

I’ve been here a few times, had the shakshuka before which was small but tasty and avocado on toast which unfortunately had hard bread (but this was 2023). Recently had one of their sourdough toasties though and it was heavenly, I’d definitely go back for it when I have the time because the wait for food was quite long. Expected the iced frappe to be thicker in texture, didn’t see much difference between the iced frappe and iced latte.
