The chocolate branded as York Chocolate Story isn't marked as may contain cereals containing gluten, but is marked as may contain oats. It isn't marked as gluten free either. The staff were unknowledgeable about whether this was gluten free and disowned the chocolate branded with York Chocolate Story saying it is made in a factory not on site. If it has your brand on it, you should know

We were first a bit sceptical about the price and what we'll get. But turns out, it's totally worth it! We had a lovely visit with a fantastic guide (Josh) and learned a lot about choclate and brands we never thought they are produced in york. Unfortunately there was a little delay at our booking time and we got the slot 30 mins later than booking time. But the waitingtime was "chocolated", so the waiting time wasn't a problem. You should book in advance for saving some money ;)

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour led by Rachel C, we thought it really interesting learning about the history of the confectionery in York and enjoyed all the tasting. As we both follow a vegan diet, we anticipated having to miss out on some samples but we were generously looked after. Vegan/dairy-free people shouldn't hesitate to participate.

We visited yesterday. The welcome we received by Rowan was lovely. He was so happy, and enthusiastic about the tour, he clearly loves his job and we couldn’t help but smile. Austin our tour guide was very knowledgeable and delivered the Information in a fun and interesting way. He had a wide range of ages on the tour and he catered well for us all. The children on the tour loved taking part in the interactive virtual chocolate factory. The various chocolate treats throughout the tour were delicious. We learnt a lot about the history of chocolate in York and how it’s made (also who knew there were so many favours of KitKat!). We made lollies to take home and watched a professional chocolatier at work - fascinating! We highly recommend this as a great thing to do whatever your age.

An informative experience, much better than a certain Birmingham based chocolate tour! The tour was generous on the amount of samples you got and had some fairly innovative methods of delivering the content. Our tour guide was excellent, but I have forgotten her name - sorry! It was disappointing to see the front of the store rearranged so that there was no seating for a hot chocolate after the tour. I didn't particularly rate the tempered chocolate part of the tour and the strawberry chocolates were kind of unpleasant. This did put me off buying anything from the gift shop.

My 4 year old son and I visited during Feb half term. We had a great time overall- when we first arrived we were given the wrong colour wristband which resulted in people incorrectly approaching us with offers of hot chocolate (which I queried) this resulted in the error being uncovered and corrected, but we were then offered again incorrectly! I wouldn’t mind, mistakes happen, but each time my son was disappointed that an offer was retracted and each time I was disappointed that there was no apology for this!! The tour itself was fantastic, our guide Sarah was superb, very enthusiastic, capable and clearly knew her stuff, delivering the information as if it was the first time she’d said it that day. Lots of yummy things to taste on the way around which linked with the information we were being shown. At the end of the experience we made our chocolate lollies, this was fun, but rather quickly over. We were then ushered to a chocolatier station which was one of the most disappointing parts of the tour- the guy raced through the station and basically couldn’t get us out of there quick enough, which was a shame as nothing else had felt really rushed throughout the tour. I purchased the photos when booking tickets- I’d advise against this. It was billed as 4 photos, but actually it was the one photo they took right at the start of the tour against 4 different backgrounds. Sadly the photo taken wasn’t very good of me or my son, so we now have the same not very good photo 4 times over! Overall, we both did really enjoy this experience, but I would say it is pricey for what it is and if it wasn’t for Sarah being so brilliant I don’t think I’d be fully recommending it.

The tour is wonderful- really interesting and each section engaging enough to keep the kids entertained. Our tour guide, Tyler was lovely. Our daughter has a milk allergy and so we were a bit concerned about how much she would be able to be involved but they provided her with a dairy free option for all the “tasting” stations and we ordered her a dairy free personalised chocolate bar for the end (we ordered it and then emailed them and they confirmed it would be fine). Overall we were really impressed with the quality of the museum and how good they were despite an allergy.

York’s Chocolate Story is a really lovely experience, perfect for anyone interested in the history and craftsmanship of chocolate. The tour lasts around an hour, during which knowledgeable guides take you through the fascinating history of chocolate-making in York, a city with a rich confectionery heritage. From learning about the origins of chocolate to the rise of famous brands like Rowntree’s and Terry’s, the experience is both educational and engaging. The interactive elements add to the fun—you get to see how chocolate is made, taste different samples, and even try your hand at crafting some yourself. The museum is well laid out, and the storytelling is immersive, making it an enjoyable visit for all ages. Our guide was Harriet who was super lovely and friendly. She was so informative and very enthusiastic and is an absolute credit to your team! She made us feel welcome and guided us through the history of chocolate in York. The entire tour was so very immersive and very creative, nothing like how I expected (even better!) and it was an enjoyable experience from start to finish. We got to make a lollypop to begin with and then we’re able to roll our truffles afterwards. Whilst they set, we then were shown how chocolates were made and were able to sample those too! I honestly didn’t expect so many different types of samples and it was an exciting experience! You might think that it’s great for kids but I would absolutely recommend for adults as well! (Who doesn’t like a bit of fun and chocolate!?) Honestly would return again because it’s super fun! And the gift shop is literally just chocolate (amazing).
